Ugh, I really fail at painting. I need much more practice or more luck.
I used to, but I dropped out of it and took Philosophy intead. Because I'm only good at perfecting doodles, not drawing a pre-determined subject.
Oh, I see. I understand what you mean about not being good at drawing something pre-determined. A lot of artists do really great stuff on whims.
I've always been hopeless at painting, and using pastels too. I started experimenting with markers though, and I've been able to get rather good with them. I mainly use copic markers now.
They're really easy to use after practising for a while, and give great results, so maybe you could try experimenting with them?
The only thing is, they're really expensive.. and because you're not doing an art course, I dunno if you'd want to invest in a set (even non-copics are pretty expensive).
