Hey–welcome. Not really an answer to either question, but since you're so new here, perhaps you ought to just settle in and get to know the place and the culture a little before you try starting a thread. It usually goes better that way anyway. The one place I bet you can start a thread is the introduction threads--you could introduce yourself there, and then, you know, hang out, read a bit, post some, then post some more. Be active, add to the community--then sooner or later you get the ability to start threads.

I don't think the system is set up with a "head admin." Pick one and PM him or her and make your case, but chances are you will probably get the same answer I posted–e.g. take your time and be active, and you will eventually earn the right to make threads---unless the idea you have is so amazing that it simply must have a thread made right this minute. I'm not sure if there's any places that actually stream TV live but any TV show episode will be up online (though not legitimately like you want) shortly after they air.

I didn't interpret "legit" to mean "legal".

I know that if your friends are streaming certain channels, that's the best way to get live cable access when you can't otherwise. I know the folks in #mahjong used to stream stuff like Dexter and Jersey Shore.

Alright so for the past couple of months this Raccoon has been coming into my backyard and eating out of the garbage. We have those simple plastic garbage cans, but it always opened the lid. It would always leave a trail of garbage so my Dad got a chord and started putting them on the lids, to keep it on. This worked about half of the time, and recently they chewed a whole in the bottom of the can. My Dad will shoot some blanks from his BB gun to scare it, but it never runs. My Dad will shoot it two or three times and it will run off….only to return next night.

My Dad doesn't want to kill it, and he thinks that if he cuts it off from getting food for a couple of days it will permanently leave. Last night he tied the Garbage can up to the railing on our deck...but it removed the wires and chords, and moved the can off of the deck, onto the lawn and got its meal. So, anyone got any ideas on how to deal with this? He doesn't want to kill it but at this point I'm thinking of poisoning food and leaving it for it. I'd rather clean up one dead raccoon than cleaning up food off of the lawn every morning.

If I do chose to poison it what should I use? Will it smell it and not eat it? Any cheap ways to trap it?

My computer has been restored after getting KO'd by a root-kit. I downloaded the newest Firefox to be safe, but it is ugly as sin.

1. How do I revert the UI of the new FF to that of FF3?
2. How do I deny all cookies except for websites where I select to accept them (I know this option on FF3, but not FF6).
3. How do I remove the Google association?

I'm gonna be doing a huge schoolwork about the history of video games, and I could really use some good sources to get good information from. Anyone got a good reliable site from which to use information, or maybe a good documentary or such?

It's basically our final report before we graduate, so it's gonna be a big one.

Hi guys, this is really not a one liner question but I'm desperate. I can't open a new topic due to this problem, so please bear with me. (and i'll post this also in another thread, sorry mods)

This started 2 days ago and it's really annoying. obviously (and fortunately), this is one of the few sites i can open. I can't open facebook, twitter, yahoo mail/yahoo messenger, and a lot more. Torrent is not downloading also. I already scanned the computer using avast, threatfire, and malwarebytes (quick scans though and in safe mode) and no virus/malware appeared. I also did system restore, and I still cannot open some sites. And I can only browse at night LoL. I consider 2 possibilities:

1. my laptop is infected by some freaking virus.
2. internet service provider is having problems. (though i called them and they said they really are having problems throughout the country)

I'm just paranoid that my laptop has a virus and I can't do anything about it right now. :) So please can someone tell me that the problem is really the internet provider? :D

(btw, I can only open some sites at night/midnight, at noon, I can't open anything.)

yes you can. just move app files (.apk) to phone (via cable/blue tooth) and open it using your phone's file manager.

Can someone tell me how on earth 2b^2 = -10b -9 comes to {-5+ the square root of 7 over 2, -5- the square root of 7 over 2}?

I think Robby said that the forums don't accept certain email accounts but that he doesn't know which specific ones, so maybe you should ask an admin or try a different email.

The FAQ mentions @aim accounts. I first tried to register with a 'mail.com' ID and I didn't get a confirmation email there either.

Probability of getting interesting mail on a weekday = 1/10 or 0.1. Therefore, does the probability of getting at least one interesting mail during a weekday = 5/10 or 0.5?

Mutually exclusive events means if something happens, then something else can't happen. If there are three red balls and one white ball in a bag, and you take out the white ball, the probability of you getting a white ball goes to 0 the next time you try to take a ball. But if you put the ball back, your chances of getting the white ball (25%) remains unchanged.

For your question. Over a five day period, the chance of getting interesting mail is independent, so you add the probabilities together to get 50%.

Intuitively, think of it this way - if you have a 10% chance of getting interesting mail, over a 10 day period, you can expect (on average) to get interesting mail once.

my textbook is so confusing. I don't understand the terms sensitivity and specificity. If you've got a 1/1000 chance of getting a disease, with sensitivity = 95% and specificity = 90% how do you calculate the probability of actually having the disease assuming you test positive?

we haven't even covered this in class…

Not really an ask-for-help question, I'm just curious. Recently I and several others have been noticing a lot of guests viewing a particular thread here - just earlier today there were 60-70 guests viewing the thread. It's not a very renown thread like a manga/spoiler thread and there wasn't much going on at that time, so it seems really, really strange. I'm not sure if they're actual visitors, or bots, or little pixies running around sprinkling sticky glitter everywhere. Has anyone seen an abnormal number of guests viewing other threads on this forum too? Or does anybody know what the reason could be?

I think I've seen something like what Trappedolphin's talking about too Fire fist you know how traffic is on the Rock the Casbah thread right?A minute ago there were 24 guests viewing the thread…I know the chapter is coming tomorrow & all but dn't believe there would be so many nothing major's been posted and they are all guests? a bit freaky.

Ps: Plus forgot to mention I checked the thread twice actually dn't know how many minutes passed 2 or 3 but the first time there were 11 guests. The second 24.
