General Devil Fruit Discussion

One thing I do wonder about is how Moria's ability interacts with devil fruit powers. If he reanimates a corpse that possessed a devil fruit ability, does it retain that power after reanimation? If so, couldn't there be two people with that fruit at the same time? If not, where exactly does that devil fruit power reside? It couldn't be in the body or the mind, because those stay with the zombie. It would have to be in the "soul" of the person, assuming that the soul doesn't return to the zombie body. Or it could be the eponymous "devil" of the devil fruit, inhabiting the body of the devil fruit user? I don't know, but Moria's fruit could cause all sorts of strange conundrums in the way devil fruits work.

I don't think the zombie could copy their shadow's DF because Oz couldn't stretch his limbs without Moria's help.

Let's say Oz had had some devil fruit power in his original life. Would he retain that ability after Moria brought him back?

Oh! Well, we haven't heard of a DF user dying yet, right? Does that DF somehow come out of their system or from the remains of their body (if the body is destroyed)? If so, I say no to your question. Either way, I say no because the zombie takes the fighting style of the shadow that's in them, not the fighting style they had in life.

I think I remember Moria saying that the influence of the shadow on the zombie's personality and fighting style would gradually decrease. I can't cite this, because I don't remember what chapter I read it in and I don't feel like looking, but I think it's true.

In any case, I'm not sure that the devil fruit ability relates to personality or fighting style, so I don't know that lacking the personality or fighting style of the original body would mean that they wouldn't possess the fruit ability, even if their fighting style didn't make full use of it.

1. I'm almost positive OP's post originally said Blackbeard instead of Moria.
2. Brook's fruit involves him being brought back from the dead ONCE. Yes, it did involve his soul finding his body again. Moria's power has to do with shadows. Brook's ability has absolutely NOTHING to do with shadows. From what we've seen, Brook's ability is finished, and can never be used again.

ok read the whole thing again he never said it has to do with shadows he said shouldn't he be able to do the same thing with souls like moria did with shadows. im saying that i believe that if brook power is advance further he will be able to control souls because when it comes to paramecia they seem to be able to evolve their devil fruits in a way and by that im mean reinvent their powers

No, Brook's DF did it's job. It only allows him to come back to life once, and thus he is now a living skeleton. He can't steal other's souls or anything and his DF doesn't give him any more strength than he already possesses. So at this point, it only keeps him alive.

I just don't see how he can power it up to help him fight, since it's an ability that has nothing to do with fighting, moving, or other special abilities other than coming back from the dead.

was thinking that brook wouldnt be any other swordsman within the crew.if he is able to control soul (and not any souls just dead souls) then he will have more of unique fighting ability cause the only musical attack he has done is the sleeping attack thing, but in a way he could apply both together like he could control the souls with his violin or any other musical object.see when i think of brook i think of the pied piper but instead of rats ii think of souls.

i would usually disagree but after seeing all the latest df powers and how much they hav evolved then i really woulnt be surprised,,,,like look at the gorgon sisters and there abilities, not the powers of a snake….............. so yeah maybe, i cant imagine brook getting better any other way seeming as the main swordsman is zoro so i doubt oda would try the same for brooke.

As for Knuckles, I think that Brook can get stronger….just not sure how he would do it.

Yeah, Brook's fruit can't do anything but bring him back to life upon his death. That's it. When he was originally alive, it did nothing but take his ability to swim. Once he died, his soul came back and found his body again. Once he came back, the fruit had done it's job and he continued to not be able to swim. The fruit won't do anything else now. He won't get some kind of control over the dead or souls, he'll just continue to live and not swim. The only abilities he'll be able to work on are his sword skills and music skills.

Its extended power is just keeping the user alive no matter what condition the body was in upon reunion between soul and body. In Brook's case it means it will keep him alive despite being a skeleton.

"Ambition" doesn't nullify Devil Fruit powers. If that were the case Luffy wouldn't have remained stretched when attacking Marigold during his fight with her and Sandersonia. Or how Borsalino still had his Ama-no-Murakumo when cut during his fight with Rayleigh. It simply allows one to bypass said Devil Fruit if it changed one's body.

Besides, if that were the case there'd essentially be no difference between "Ambition" and Teach's Yami Fruit. He's the only one who can nullify Devil Fruit powers outside of a natural weakness or seastone.

If he finds a body, he'll most likely be able to inhabit it, but however he chose his own body and therefore it is actually unknown if he was able to go into someone else's corpse.

Put it this way. Imagine if I told you there's a Hoof Hoof Fruit, that gives you the hooves of a goat / cow / horse. Would you find it logical or sensible that such a Fruit could:

1. Allow you to shoot shockwaves through the air.
2. Distill the pain / sadness / fatigue out of anyone, forming a visible hoof-shaped bubble.
3. Send anyone flying for thousands of miles.
4. Compress air to form an air bomb.

I mean seriously. Oda frankly just does what he wants with the DF Powers, and there's no logical or sensible way we can predict how much a particular fruit can do.

You're right velcry. Oda likes to awe us in how he uses these powers. I mean, I would have never thought that being rubber would result in some awesome techniques that Luffy has, or having the Suna Suna no Mi give you the ability to absorb all liquids and turn anything you touch into sand as well. He truly thinks about how he wants these powers to be used in ways that actually do make sense if you think of it in a different way. Kuma's ability is very interesting, but it kind of makes sense. Paws are used by animals to grasp the ground better. By taking that to the extreme you have Kuma being able to use his paws to be able to grasp the air, or anything and reject them.

But anyway, Brook's DF did it's job. He just has to find different techniques or get stronger the same way he did while on his ship.

I think the crew has enough devil friuts and Oda didn't want to throw in another one.

so he gave us brook, he is basically a non df. all his fruit did was allow him to be a skeleton. otherwise he is a normal fighter like the rest now. no devil fruit help. (ok he can't swim, and is like 40 lbs. but otherwise he is a non df imo)

That's true from what we've learned about his powers up until now - but then again I would've never expected something like Gear 2 and 3 to happen or Chopper's Monster-Transformation.

As far as we know there is a way of powering-up your abilities and I wouldn't be surprised if Brooke also discovered a new facet of his powers one day.

Thinking more about it'd be cool if Brook could revive a dead person's soul and let it control his body the stipulation is that he'd have to remove his soul first and keeping true to what Brook believes to only be a one time revival he can only revive other souls in to his body once. So he can't just go swapping in and out with any bad ass soul he comes across.

well, brook's df gave him the ability to make his soul come back to his body. because beeing lost it took brook too long to find his real body, so his soul made him come back to life within a skeleton. brook farts, crys, eats, walks over water, jumps over skyscrapers and of course moves without muscels. SO he still benefits from his DF.

Why not improving it?

I think this is a good question! And I think Brook will power up. But I can't believe him to have any power over others..He already has some big advances in fighting someone…, ...like buggy for example. What would Buggy do, stab Brook with a knife in his heart? How impressive! (no discussion who would win this fight, please. It just doesn't matter)
I'd say Brook will be immune to a lot of powers, maybe he will be immune to doflamingo, because brook has no muscles flamingo could move, or beeing immune to Hancock, because he has no brain thinking improper thought.
I am confident Oda will do something great with brook!

not become a PH D instantly. Of coz he/she will gain knowledge faster than others, but he/she still need to travel around.

Well the TB arc had to do with a couple dead ppl's shadows. Also ppl have died in the past. I'm not saying for Brook to go out and kill ppl just so he can use their soul or that ppl have to die in present time for him to do it. Like I said earlier it's a lot like shaman king unfortunately. So all the souls would be really old anyway.

I mean keep in mind Brook did die just to be revived. His whole appearance and part of his crazy personality surrounds the fact that he has been dead. So although Oda tends to avoid it, Brook is a glaring exception.

the shaman king nonsense is not interesting at all.. most powerups in one piece are either original or situational; latter meaning tat it is a result of an idea/object tat the StrawHat crew took notice..
In short our heroes power up are always main story/events/situation related.. Heck, oda did the same with CP9 when kaku & karifa ate the devil fruits; he gave them all a theme animal..
Now with the storyline hinting a boost is badly needed for the StrawHats to enter the new world, brook will powerup in a way tat is wacky cool and unique..

A powerup to control soul? Nah, too common..
The pied piper ideal is cool though.. Given tat his fruit could have two meaning.. Most interesting!!
But remember the Hitodama of Brook when he was searching for his body?
Since most of his attacks are speed and status effect based, now imagine if he can turn his haki into hitodama/soul; in other words apparition of the haki!!!
He can control the hitodama effect, movement, shape and even appearance with his music.. Since they are not solid they cannot be really destroy or blown away..
It cause attackers to be trapped in an illusion or status effect when they touch it..
Brook can also use it as a cloning ability in a fight.. With his crazy jumping and running on water ability it might just work for the fragile skeleton..
