General Devil Fruit Discussion

Lao plus Doffy -> G-string
Doffy's fruit is not overpowered, it's just having complete control and mastery about it.
-
DD's fruit is good, but requires a lot of skill.
plus, it wouldn't have saved him at all from anyone he's fought. Luffy, law, sanji etc had no problems getting past his powers and attacking him directly.
DD is strong because he has a useful ability+very high basic combat strength. if he just had the DF alone he'd get stomped by any decent fighter.

Ideo ate the Meta Meta fruit.
It allows him to turn metaphors into reality.

But Ideo is there! If I didn't know any better I'd say he told Kyros, "you don't have a leg to stand on."

Do you guys think if Oda could, he would go back in time and change DFs? The main 3 are Paramecia, Zoans, and Logias but Zoans really need a overhaul or something imo.
They just …suck. I love animals, but I just find them boring imo.
I really hope they expand more on them during the Kaido arc, but with smile they just became fodder weapons. The only interesting Zoans will be from Kaido himself (if he has one) and his crew (if they have some).
Awakening Zoans are mindless beasts, I have yet to see a zoan cause as much destruction as Logias, Some paramecias, haki, etc. The only hope seems to be mythical zoans
considering that Dragon have the strongest fruit amongst all and it is a zoan .
and no its not a dragon , its a den den mushi zoan type , A W A K E N E D , i already posted that on dumb predictions but i'm not trolling , the den den mushi zoan awakened will be too op , he can call anyone anywhere , call anything ( like clouds in rogue town ) , send radio waves , intercept any discussion , read other people mind ( can be possible by using the same logic for birdcage ) , and most importantly , transform into a super awesome snail !
if you want to know , no i didn't take any suspicious substance before writing that post

That sounds pretty boss, he could even interfere with golden den den mushies and make them attack their own base.

I dislike the fact that at the beggining of the series, the DF user's weakness was really important. At least, everybody was talking about it. About how bad it was not being able to swim, specially if you were on a boat all the time, traveling from island to island. But we never seen nor heard of a single character actually dying that way. I mean, eating a DF was suposed to be a sort of a trade. You gain one ability and lose another very important one. But since no one ever drowns, you lose nothing. And no one even talks about that anymore. I think it's amazing that seastone is a more recurring threat to Df users than the actual sea itself. I think Oda sorta forgot to focus on that along the way. I dunno. That bothers me. I thought the weakness thing was very clever all those years ago. He should've exploered it more.

It's not like anyone would just randomly fall into the sea. The majority of the story takes place on land. I don't see why falling ocean would be such a huge deal. It's not like the weakness hasn't been mentioned or hasn't been a problem recently.

The thing is: at the beggining of the series, he DID make it look like falling into the ocean was a huge deal. Just look at Shanks' reaction when Luffy ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi. And now no one seems to care anymore. I agree that it's not that easy for someone to randomly fall into the ocean. I just think that the whole weakness thing sorta faded away through the years.

If you actually think about it, it's still incredibly risky.
Imagine you're, say, Whitebeard. and you're fighting Ace.
BUT, it's happening in the middle of the ocean, on ships.
Now, obviously WB could pound Ace easily. but the problem is, Ace can blast a ship into splinters with a single Hiken. even if it doesn't hurt WB at all, all Ace has to do is sink his ship, and suddenly WB is trapped in the middle of the ocean and unable to do anything.
For a world that seems to be mostly comprised of islands, anyone who travels a lot is at great risk from the DF weakness. your strength is pointless when you're stuck in the middle of the ocean with nothing to hold on to. even normal, weak ass dudes who you could smash by the hundreds pose a serious threat to you, when they have ships with cannons aimed at your own vessel.
-

I know it's still etremely risky. What I meant is that Oda isn't focusing on that anymore. Plotwise. No one ever drowns. No one even talks about the DF weakness anymore. Everybody just eats the fruit and starts kicking ass with their new powers and go live happily ever after.

I said something about seastone in one of my previous posts. If I remember correctly, wasn't seastone supposed to be rare when it was introduced to the series? Yet, seastone seems to be more of a recurring threat than the sea itself!

"rare" doesn't mean much for the world goverment.
Rubies are very rare irl, but rich people still have no problem getting them.
while it SEEMS common, think about it. the only time anyone ever has seastone is when they're very powerful and well funded.
the navy, the WG, big time pirates like crocodile or DD(who both headed huge organizations).
how often do you see some random schmuck walking around with it?
And even in the navy/those powerful organizations that can obtain it, they don't just use it on any random crap. ship hulls, cages, specialized weapons etc are what it's used for, stuff that is a permanent fixture that you can get a lot of use from. you don't see the navy handing out seastone bullets and gear to rank and file soldiers or some shit.
-
Seastone is rare because Doffy has all of it. Behehehe!

Sanji had no problems? He was almost killed.
Law has had a couple blocks, nothing is unblockable.
Doflamingo hasn't even done half the attacks expected to do, and is one of the reasons why I am disappointed with the fight.

Sanji had no problem making contact, no. the fight started with sanji kicking him, if I recall.
to begin with DD had to eat a diable jamble right to the leg, then he took an entire barrage of powerful hits head on. without his high personal strength and just relying on his fruit, the fight would have been totally one-sided in Sanji's favor. people have no problem getting past DD's DF power to attack him directly, he NEEDS high personal combat ability
Again, his fruit is powerful, but to compete with strong fighters it requires the user themselves to be quite strong. my response up there was to the idea that DD's fruit was broken. it's not, because unless the user themselves is strong any decent fighter can crush them.
-

That's the problem right there. Too many people have been over-hyping Doflamingo and expecting more than what he is.
Forget fear, hype is the real mind killer.

But that's the case with anyone? If you're shit yourself, your fruit isn't going to do much. Whiteboard was the strongest not with his fruit alone, but his pure physical strength, power, speed as well.
Sanji had gone in to blow away Doflamingo but he stopped Sanji, then he decided he wasn't going down and barraged him which was quickly and easily blocked with hardening.

He was portrayed as a slicing machine. But didn't do much of it. Where's that shit he did to crocodile or oars? Just a couple examples.

Not everybody is the same or as strong .
Don strings were never gong to cut or hurt certain characters as much .
He hit luffy with them and they hardly did any damage and law block them with haki .Talking about DF i wonder what robin awakening would be like .
One of the most broken DF is OP ( but nerf because of they type of charcter robin is )could get even more broken . -

-
Are we really discussing the merit of a fight between Sanji and Doflamingo, a guy who until that point had never taken a hit in the decade he had been on-panel and is the arc's big boss?
The fight was ever only going to end one way, and was basically used as a stalling exercise till Law (one of Doffy's two real opponents) could save the day.
Using this "fight" as a reference point is only going to lead to theories/opinions/whatever being built on some very shaky ground.

There are stronger strings that Doflamingo has obviously. The attacks don't necessarily need to cut parts off. But at least do a considerable amount of Damage.
Luffy was in a lot of pain after he received one to the back and that was basic. Sure he was feeling better after but they do hurt.
The way you say strings did nothing to Luffy, so that means overheat is the same? Imagine Doflamingo getting a clean shot with that.

Because strings slashing you is different compare to someone holding you and using all there leg strength to cut off you arm .
Luffy was in pain from the haki punch to the face not the strings you can see him holding his forehead .
And don did use stronger strings attack it's call overheat. -

Luffy got slashed and screamed in pain and got punched after. If it did nothing Luffy would still be battling no problem.
Yea Imentioned overheat as well. What's your point? -
A devil fruit that can make a birdcage that when shrinks needs an entire country to push and can control people's bodies and can make from
buildings strings and can holdup oars and jouzou isn't weak -
Talking about DF i wonder what robin awakening would be like .
One of the most broken DF is OP ( but nerf because of they type of charcter robin is )could get even more broken .If we follow the logic of Ito Ito, I am guessing instead of just simply sprouting Robin it will make surroundings itself turn into a mass of Robin.

Seems like fights are getting really sort of stupid. Too ridiculous to even entertain.

say that to mingo turning buildings into strings , then what turn zoro's swords into strings …
i tried to explain that by saying that the buildings were already strings of mingo , seeing that he is the king of dressrosa and maybe he did want to become the god of dressrosa , but after a few chapters it seems that he really turn stuff into strings , as you say its too ridiculous to even entertain
-
I find it hard to understand why after all the weird abilities and powers we've seen in One Piece, that turning buildings into strings is somehow a line in the sand.
Especially when it's only been in this arc that the previously invincible and way too powerful Law has continually had his ass handed to him.
-
All is good, but the likes of Zoro and an Admiral, without even counting the rest of the country, being unable to cut or hold back a cage of string is too much. Oda is always right, but that one makes no sense
-

You've seen the kind of stuff that Doffy's strings can do, yeah?
His strings can control people, slice buildings like they were nothing, be used to create fully automated clones of himself etc.
I don't really have a problem with him generating a nigh on indestructible structure using them.

a paramecia DF have a specificity , luffy being a rubber man can't create rubber , mingo can create strings but not turn himself into strings , the fact that he turn building into strings is useless anyway , he can already do what he did without turning them into strings .
what does it add to the fight , nothing if you ask me .he could already raise strings from the ground , so i don't see the point in giving him that power which open up the way for even more bizarre abilities to come .
as for law his fruit is cheated , but that is not a regular paramecia , like brook sugar , moria , you have to expect that coming from a non regular fruit ( i consider mingo and luffy having regular paramecias their mechanics are simple to understand ) , and usually Oda explain how they work , as for gamma knife or eternal life for the ope ope no mi i don't see how it work , maybe gamme knife is a concentrated room ?
another question is what will happen if luffy awakens his fruit , will he turn everything into rubber … that's useless ...
edit: for birdcage i accepted it by believing its possible after awakening , and each DF have a super final move , mingo -> birdcage
law -> surgery for eternal life
brook -> ???

But part of all the moves we seen so far from him they could have gotten better or he able to do them thanks to his awakening.
Also now that we know he can control strings with his thoughts his string clone make much more sense.
Truth is we will most likely never know .Also Don DF may be simple but the truth is it should be one of the most diverse abilities in the manga.
If we go by real life strings are use to make tons of things( once woven together )
Are use in many different fields and have a lot of variety and properties.
So all oda had to do is mix and match and you have one super strong DF. -
I can understand the Parasite skill which is something we have seen and the slicing abilty (Hellsing), which were both abilities introduced early in One Piece but this Birdcage, Clone and buildings turning into strings is too much. I was really waiting for Luffy to fight Doflamingo since they both had standart Paramecia Devil Fruits and latter when Haki was introduced I was expecting a great battle like Lufy Vs Lucci but Oda went all Enel on Doflamingo giving him powers beyond imagination. He is a Shichibukai but Crocodile was too, and didn't seem that afraid of him. It was understable with Logia users but this?? The other Yonkou will probably have Super Sayan powers if we follow the logic that they are stronger. I liked Whitebeard and he really was frightening with his Devil Fruit but Doflamingo has destroyed more buldings than Whitebeard, Enel , Crocodile put together only with his….strings??

Also, There is a Tanuki DF in Unlimited Adventure Red, but its not canon.

Mystic Zoan in this case.

Mystic Zoan in this case.
interesting, I could see it once you put it that way.
A weird one though, I'd expect him to do some actual transformations not just costumes if its a Kitsune. Tanukis are more comical which would fit with the costumes Kinemon provides.

This seems legit, except that, Kinemon, Kanjuro (fly, become invisible) and (possibly) the third samurai, each have a power of Kitsune (+momonosuke?)

In the start, we thought that only the Zoan types could awaken, we had the five Jailer Beasts in Impel Down as prime examples of this concept. But, what do you expect of a awakened Zoan devil fruit user ? Raw wild animal power/less human aspect for the user.
Than we saw Doflamingo saying that Luffy didn't awaken his Devil Fruit, so now we are sure (?) that Paramacias can also awaken, and this piece of information opened lot's of possibilities for our imagination to run wild with dreamy theories . Doflamingo also said that in a awakend state, a Paramacia devil fruit user can affect the surroundings and he did so using his Ito Ito no mi to transform bolders and buildings in to strings.
Paramacia class has a wide variation of powers, and you can even subdivide them in smaller groups, because we had the idea that some DF had some limitations.
Let´s use Luffy's fruit as a exemple, in the beginning we thought that his DF power gave his body rubber properties, now, in a "possible awaked state", he could transform the surroundings in to rubber or Daz Bones's DF could transform the surroundings in to blades.
But this idea only applies for the "basic" class of Paramacias, the one that only can change the users body. (Luffy, Daz Bones, Alvida).
The other two sub classes:
The body produces the power, the body don´t change, but the person can emit the power (Foxy, Whitebeard, Hancock) and the last class, that the user can change their body and affect others with their powers (Emporio, Law, Moria) are open to interpretation, if they already can afect the surroundings with their power, what a awakened state will do ?
Sorry and have a nice day.
-
Lots of text about Paramecia Awakening & "Sub-classes"
Actually Doflamingo himself belongs to the "sub-class" by that logic as he doesn't change his own body, he just creates the string like Foxy creates Noro and Whitebeard creates Quake.
I think it's more likely that all Paramecia will use the same logic and change surroundings into their own superhuman quality they can then control. The only difference is that "the surroundings" specifically mean people instead of structures on some paramecia, e.g. Mane Mane no mi.I would expect Ope Ope just to create more rooms out of buildings or it could just turn everything into surgical tools going berserk withing the Room. Another take could be that instead of just doing MORE, it would just amplify what you can do in the Room and basicly enable hyperbolic time chamber. It's possible, but I hope not.
Moria can't control other than his own shadow unless he steals them, so it would make sense if the awakening would allow him to control every shadow in the vicinity without stealing them.
Hormone fruit is a no brainer, it would make everything into syringes. No need to say what those do though. Some extra thought: What if Logia and Paramecia can go berserk like Zoan too once awakened?
-
I think it depends on the mastery of the power of the user.
For Zoans are easier to imagine, but for Paramacias and Logias..No.
(I don´t know how can a logia be awakened). :ninja:
-
(I don´t know how can a logia be awakened). :ninja:
Being able to turn other objects into your element like Doffy turned buildings into strings?
-
@RobZilla: Ohh You are right, ahahah.
Silly me.
But back to Paramecias, Let's take the Suke-Suke no mi for example, Absalom can make himself and other things invisible by touching it, if this fruit is awakened, he could make things invisible without touching them ?
Some powers in the paramecia class are easy to understand the concept of "awakening", like Buggy´s Bara-Bara no mi or Luffy´s Gomu-Gomu no mi.
But if "awakening" a DF = affect others/the surroundings, there will be mismatch of this concept for this class.
