This is becoming such a tease I want to see the match so much now… Ippo will kill that guy it seams... or he will render him unable to ever fight or stand up on his own again...thats what happen when you unleash the ippo
Hajime no Ippo
-
-
Now it seems like they're foreshadowing that Ippo's gonna get his ass beat.
-
It looks like to me Ippo is going to beat ass in the 1st Round. Intense chapter with a lot…a LOT of build up. Now get on with the match.
-
I see this fight will be some what similar to the Ozuma fight.
-

Get on with fight already, damn.
-
how slow can you go ~?
seriously , just begin already :/
-
. .Even more so for this chapter than the last, at least last chapter had a cool entrance.
-
I just hope that ippo OHKO's that guy.
-
-
A lot of buiild up and tension.
! That is all
-
"The bell hasn't rung yet."
"It still hasn't rung."
"…"
"Still not ringing..."
"And there it goes!"
"The fighters are now standing."
"They're glaring at each other."
"..."
"I just got some new information in, yes it seems like they ARE breathing!"
-
Why is he dragging this story by so much?
-
A Bleach chapter has more going on.
And that's saying a lot. -
it probably looks a lot better in volume format. the weekly gaps between the chapters make it seem longer than it actually is too.
a good sports manga gets "into the zone", so i'm fine with a lot of slow tension being shown before fights,
because it's a semi-realistic portrayal of how a lot of real life boxers feel before a match.
it's all about the atmosphere, and i'm personally loving it. it gets me pumped. -
This is just shitty, tedious, and a painstakingly dragged out tease that has stopped paying off plot and climax wise.
chaps like these make me want to just stop reading for months again. If it wasn't for the several other better manga coming out weekly that have longed taken priority over this I'd stop reading this for years.
-
it definitely helps to take vacations from it.
when i was getting bored of the woli fight i stopped reading for a couple of months,
and then when i came back and read through the whole thing without pause it seemed more enjoyable. -
Haven't read a chapter since the Woli fight. But i'll admit i'm getting curious about what so wrong with this one.
I figured after Woli it was only gonna get better.
-
people don't seem to like the incredibly long build up, it feels dragging to a lot of them.
maybe ippo should have been a monthly series… with more pagenumbers and work space, the pace might have seemed faster, even just a little bit.
-
The betwenn fight chapters are the best part so i probably wouldn't mind.
-
It helps with most comics if you get to read a volumes worth and not week by week. I know that but it seems with Ippo the overall quality has dipped. I had took a break before the Woli fight as well and although I wasn't annoyed with his character like most ppl I found the fight to be terribly bad.
-
Honestly, I liked the Woli fight.
The fight I couldn't stand was Gedo. I loved the concept behind a money match and that he never fought seriously unless money was involved but the fight was horribly bad.
-
^ pretty much this. i was definitely underwhelmed by most of the gedo fight.

-
call me when they actually start boxing.
-
The only way this over-analysis of every small detail can be made up for is if the fight is gonna be settled in one hit.
-
ONE HIT please, ONE friggin hit
-
Wow a staring contest, how fascinating.
-
reminds me of goku & vegeta's toilet straining in the DB anime.
-
That was hilarious. Seriously, even Bleach chapters have more content than this Ippo chapter and that's saying A LOT. Those were 15 pages of nothing.
But with this much build up, it pretty much has to end in a 1 hit KO.
-
ippo: grr…i'm so mad...grr...building up my power...grr...gonna go full throttle....grrrr....
gets his ass kicked in the middle rounds, only to win in the last round with his last burst of strength, just like always.
fans: -.-
-
These chapters wouldn't be good even if I read them all at once.
And yeah I'll be extremely pissed off if this ends up being an incredibly long drawn out fight. Like one of the coaches alluded to.
-
Here let me sum up everything that happened in this chapter. I spent hours on this.
!
What's scary is he'll have 4-5 more title defenses before the plot ((if it still exists)) even progresses.
-
Imagine buying a volume with all this in.
The most underwhelming volume ever.
-
Just got caught up and i'm honestly not seeing what's so bad. Everything from the Kimura is a pedophile to chapter 933 was classic Ippo.
Sure the latest chapter was kind of teaser, really making you wait for it. But after Woli i wouldn't even consider complaining about something so minute.
-
He looked like he was charging for a kamehameha.
Kojima better duck.
-
I will only forgive the last two chapters if the fights ends in the next one.

int he next one + 20

i get the feeling that me and wolfwood are the only folks in this thread who don't mind the long build up. .__.
it'll happen when it happens. it's not like this is the only weekly series you read, right?.
just take a vacation from it and then come back later to read a bunch of chapters at once.personally, these sort of chapters pump me up and immerse me in the atmosphere.
one of the things that got me hooked on ippo in the first place was its ability to pull me in. -
Sometimes i enjoy the build up more than the actualy fight. I certainly think that's going to be the case in this fight as well.
But it might just be my strange taste talking, i for instance loved both the Gedo and the Take fight. Both which seem to have been universally panned.
-
The build up was always the best part of HnI. But that was back when Ippo was still enjoyable. There's no way this fight's going to be any kind of good and I've got no idea why I still read this manga every week.

Things look better in this situation when you're reading a bunch of chapters at once, as opposed to one a week.

You guys are not encouraging me to catch up on Ippo.
Last fight I read was Miyata vs. Randy Boy Jr. Last fight I think I read with Ippo was Ippo vs. the Magician guy, who was using the loose glove trick.
Blaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! What a terrible fight! Anyways, hopefully the writer will do a timeskip or give us more non-ippo fights because it seems like the writer has hit a road block with Ippo's progress. 900 chapters in, damn, it's time for Ippo to grow some balls finally. [/rant] -
Bullshit he's hit a roadblock. There's like 10 moves that Ippo has used that he hasn't permanently added to his overall moveset and rather than fucking learn any of them to give himself more variety he's been "pumping that iron" because obviously being the strongest featherweight wasn't good enough for him.
"Gee, I wonder why Woli kicked my ass. Must not be because of a lack of moves. It must be because I'm not swole enough."
hits the weights
Fucking dumbass.

Those are always the most enjoyable. The hawk fight was the best thing.

Agreed, that was a great fight. I also really like the Mashiba vs Sawamura fight. Man, was I on the edge of my chair.
@Kenny - were you agreeing or disagreeing with me? Your statement seems to indicate you disagree, but your entire posts seems to indicate you agree… O_o
-
I disagree that he's hit a roadblock but I do agree he isn't going anywhere.
Which makes it even worse because he could improve but isn't.
-

Yeah, evil vs evil was fun. Sawamura's a great character - shame there won't be any more fights with him in.
-

Are you trolling me? because I'm very confused.
Regardless, I didn't say Ippo hit a roadblock, I said it seemed as though the writer (George Morikawa - if wiki is correct) hit a roadblock with Ippo's character.
Given Ippo's growth, tenacity and determination, he's had slums before, but he's always pulled himself out of them. I feel like he's been stuck in the same spot for like 200 chapters.Yeah, evil vs evil was fun. Sawamura's a great character - shame there won't be any more fights with him in.
Yeah, there are some fighters I'd love back in the story. Like Zangief, I thought he was a great character. And non-figher, is Ippo's 'gf' Mashiba's sister still in the story. Don't remember.
