I'm wondering if it would be in Viz's best interests to stop serializing such well known titles in USJ, and perhaps starts serializing their lesser known titles instead.
Titles like Hikaru no Go, and basically any other lesser known titles (and much harder sells) should be the ones we see in Shonen Jump.
People don't need to see One Piece or Shaman King or Yugioh in SJ to know what it's about and pick up the volumes, especially since the shows are on tv and have that built in fan base.
Other titles could use the SJ exposure MUCH more than the most of the ones in there now. And if those titles got more exposure, then that would hopefully lead to volumes doing better, and Viz would have more series to rely on than the handful of succesful ones they have right now.
Shonen Jump would work out best as a sampler for new never heard of titles, as opposed to just giving us stuff we already know we like. And at the same time, those titles like One Piece, Shaman King, etc. we'd see quicker releases for.
Also, a rotating batch of series would work too. Like, once a series get's popular enough, take it out of SJ and give the fans what they want with quicker volume releases, and then replace it with a new series in the magazine.
Basically, the SJ magazine has alot of potential to really push the rest of Viz's line but Viz isn't using it that way.
