Chapter 400 "Key of Liberation" Discussion

Robin can't just grow new limbs to replace old ones because those hands are only around for a limited amount of time(I think) and the thought of seeing a handless robin really bothers me. I also thinking oda would have a more creative way of dealing with the hand cuffs then just chopping her hands off. I'm sorry if I bothered you I was just trying to state my opinion even though it was rather blunt maybe I should add a happy face to this post
No problem, I am ok with the fact that you don t want it to happen, but please becare when you make a short comment like this.
The happy face is a good thing, but there i prefer the mention "(i think)" which means that is your own theory and not a fact or an affirmation :laugh:I was just mentionning the fact that we don t know how her DF work, and it is funny to think that she can be like flower which grow again from a cut :|
sorry i can t find words to put it like i want, but i guess it is undertandable :o

Currently, I don't really like the idea of Califa joining the crew, but she would certainly serve a purpose for the crew. With her experience as a secretary and her devil fruit powers, she could become a perfect messenger for the Strawhat crew (similar to Lafitte in Blackbeard's crew). I would imagine her offering tea to some trashy pirates and trying to conduct business with them before calling "sexual harrassment" and beating them to a pulp.
Last, but not least, Jyabura is defintely a Oda's tribute to Tao Pai Pai. The pony tail and facial hair (minus the goatee) seem so perfect. The sunglasses sort of look like Tao's cyborg eyes too. Usopp better watch out for his tongue! He may be better off letting sleeping dogs/wolves lie.
Honestly, I don't think any of the CP9 members would join a pirate crew. Ever.
This just seems too absurd to me. If they've really been "raised" by the government (I think Lucci said something like this, that they've been trained in Rokushiki since they were very young) they might have gotten uh… "brainwashed" too. He, damn my small english vocabulary, I find no other way to describe what I mean...
Eh, both Jyabura and Tao look like the generic chief villain from old trashy Hong Kong movies (Except Jyabura's sunglasses. And the tie. This is a little too New Age...)
Wait, Tao had CYBORG EYES? I've read through Dragonball volume 1-15 or so some weeks ago. Did I just miss that Tao was a cyborg?! X_x
-
Whaat?! You missed his return, then. He came back as a cyborg at the end of volume 14.

looks it up
JESUS CHRIST, O RLY!!!1 X___x"Well okay then! Cancel everything I said and insert the opposite!

You make a good point on the attitude of CP9. The story of how the government bring up these kids has to be kind of freaky (since Coby is training to be a Marine, he wouldn't end up in the CP organizations, right?). As for cyborg Tao Pai Pai, his eyes match the color you gave Jyabura's glasses in your avatar fairly well.

I'm just making my prediction now that Calipha ate the manly-man fruit and that's how Sanji can bring himself to defeat her.
-
I doubt it could be a man fruit, that's what Chopper has. Unless it's the steroid fruit or something. XD
-
Chopper already ate the human fruit, i am not sure that a Male fruit could exist :|
-
I think that Calphia ate a logia fruit, her getting use to it would be a weakness to her , but she would be a very strong foe for Sanji.
I think he will come up with a kick that knocks her out with the least amount of pain possible, and after taking the key he writes an apology note to Calphia leaving by her so she could find it when she wakes up.
-
Knowing Oda-sensei and his creative ways, I'm putting my bets that Hattori ate the Nagi Nagi no Mi (Key Key Fruit), and after Luffy beats the crap out of Lucchi, he's strangle Hattori until he turns into the proper key for Robin's seastone cuffs.
As for how they shape or mold seastone, my best guess is that they use vibroblades: that is, they insert a katana into a machine that vibrates it at an extremely high speed, then run a current through it, heating the blade to extremely high temperatures, allowing it to cut through the seastone.
Or maybe they hire Mihawk to do it. "Mihawk's Seastone Cuffs, Inc.". XD
-
manly as in macho-ness. An air of masculinity. Or something >.>;
-
You know, I wonder if Franky's being a cyborg himself is yet another Dragon Ball homage in this arc.
-
Why, oh, why does everyone want to see a cross-gender version of Calipha? cries
Anyway, as to Robin's powers, remember back in the palace at Arbana, when she was haunting the door with her hands and one of guards wounded one of them with her sword… Didn't Robin's real hand start bleeding so she had to retreat the other hands? (This may have only happened in the anime, my apologies beforehand, no pun intended).
-
I'm with you on that one, I would like for her to have actual powers. I think she'll have a fruit of the superhuman category. People are guessing mostly logia or zoan, aside from the male fruit. I think the power she has will be pretty original, but thats just me. Also about the comments about the ugly fruit, I doubt Sanji would go back on hitting women just because he didn't find them visually appeasing.
-
I guess you don't know sanji:laugh:
-
I guess you don't know sanji:laugh:
Perhaps you're right. Did I miss something when reading the manga?
-
Actually I'm hoping that Calipha got some sort of reversing fruit, and that she'll accidentally reverse Sanji's personality, turning him into someone whos a total jerk to women, and who would gladly beat her up. Either that or he gets the comical fight where he's trying to subdue her without actually fighting her.
-
I'd prefer a comical fight.
Again, a personality reversal would scream "Out Of Character" and render the challenge of this fight minimal.
The ideal scenario for me would be either Sanji fighting Calipha with his eyes closed (like someone else posted) or managing to beat her without directly hitting her a single time: turning her newly acquired powers against her or making her get tangled in her own whip. -
For my first post I was just wondering if all of the keys weren't real. I mean imo if I were evil and short on time I would get the CP9 members to take out the keys to their rooms and get the strawhats to play along for times sake, since we also see that Spandam is casually walking down the steps without a care in the world.
Should of read the "who's gonna bring the right key? "thread.
-
Perhaps Sanji just plays all defensive and takes the key without hurting her. If it's necessary at all she can always knock herself out, somehow. Well, she is an amatuer fruit user after all.
-
He could always just throw Hot tea on her. Take the key and run.
-
I'm with the comical idea. It would be different to ma normal fight, wouldn't it?
-
While I know that Zoro will beat Kaku, I also think two things will happen
with him.
1: he will lose 90-110% of his blood. (I know the higher end is matematically impossible, but hey, it's Zoro.)
2: despite this he will still find the power to walk until they are safely back in Water 7, and Chopper can patch him up. -
Yeah, like my friend and i were talking about, Zoro hasn't had a good fight in a long time.
A "good Zoro fight" is achieved when he loses buckets and buckets of blood.
-
How would Kaku achieve the standards that mr.1 set with his new df anyway
-
Zoro has to lose a lot of blood. Or it just as OOC as Sanji beating on a woman.
Likewise, Sanji has to break a lot of bones in the fight, and Luffy would be a combo of both.
Soge would break his nose and most probably his mask, Nami loses her clo….Nami gets hurt bad >.>Yea, i cant believe it isnt 1 week already.
-
1: he will lose 90-110% of his blood. (I know the higher end is matematically impossible, but hey, it's Zoro.)
Hey, maybe Chopper went to find a few bags of plasma so he can give Zoro a transfusion during his fight.
Another person who met Roger and yet another statement of how much Luffy is like him. They're both stupid, but as to what particular brand of stupid Roger was is open for debate. Next thing you know he'll also have eaten the Gum Gum Fruit.
Have we heard what type of ship is waiting downstairs to take Robin away? If it's a Naval vessel, I wonder who it's commander is… T-Bone perhaps? I still kinda wonder if Enies Lobby doesn't have a flag officer considering how many Marines are running around, perhaps that person's a Vice Admiral and has been sent to await the signal for a Buster Call. That or the various Baskervilles may have ranks of their own beside being a Judge.
Hey, Nami screwed up:
Nami: It's a stone that nullifies Devil Fruit Powers!
It has the same effect as dropping you in the sea.Except the sea doesn't nullify Devil Fruit powers; if it did, Luffy would have died in Arlong Park. There's no way around that either as it was a major plot point.
-

Well, Oda made Nami say that, and I believe both of them. If sensei said that the sea screws you up, then it does.
-
Assuming both the Sea and Seastone do the EXACT same thing, then the DF user cannot use their powers on their own, but their powers are still present.
Perfect example in Arlong Park, where Genzo and Nojiko were able to stretch Luffy.
-
Heh… 400 chapters, eventually you'll have some plot holes.
As for "Why" Kalifa was smiling at Sanji before the battle, it sorta highlights her battle tactics. It almost confirms that she'll use her "figure" as a weapon, if you know what I mean. Meh... I guess it was inevitable.
-

Where did that about Gol D. Roger being stupid apear ?
I don't think it's the stupidity that they refer too when they say they look alike I think its more Luffy having the same spirit of Gol D. Roger the adventurous and brave spirit
And Gol D. Roger it a akuma no mi is just degranding Gol D. Roger's image of the strongest man that ever lived that Oda was being creating
Nami didn't screw up the sea does nulify the use of akuma no mi powers at least for it's users (the help of others is needed for them to work underwater, like Genzo and Nojiko did with Luffy in Arlong Park)
Seastone does take the power of the user
Luffy exampleBut if someone pulls Luffy while he is being touched by a seastone is powers will still work right ?
-
Another person who met Roger and yet another statement of how much Luffy is like him.
With the two previous panels having first Luffy say he's going to be the Pirate King and then the scorched flag of the WG, I thought immediately that she meant Luffy and Roger having a similar knack for getting into trouble like no one else. Bakayarou also strikes me more as a 'crazy bastard' type idiot, rather than a 'slow on the uptake' type…
Have we heard what type of ship is waiting downstairs to take Robin away? If it's a Naval vessel, I wonder who it's commander is…
I've been supposing it's one of those Sea King -repelling ships that you need for sailing behind the gate. Maybe they fed a DF of some kind to the ships so they achieved this ability to ward against the huge lizards…
-

hmm
i think Django looks more like Tao Pai Pai lol -
I still wonder how Sanji's gonna do against Calipha? Maybe when he'll imagine that she's a guy.
-
@Senshi:
I still wonder how Sanji's gonna do against Calipha? Maybe when he'll imagine that she's a guy.
That already happen with Bon Clay. I'll like Sanji to practice fighting a woman who is his enemy without getting distracted easliy. I wish Oda keeps Califa a pure woman for Sanji to fight. The devil fruit better not turn her ugly.
Pure woman > pure battle > Sanji fighting a real woman without anything getting in the way (Cailfa turning ugly, or into a man or covering her face or Sanji tries to imagine he's figthing a guy, etc, etc,
-
I think hes gonna bend his rules again.
He wins the fight without kicking her even once
probably gets her into situations where she hurts herself -
If she isn't the tea, he could just toss it in her face and beat her with the cup.
-
That would still constitute hurting her. I'm also sure that all of our theories on how Sanji would win are wrong. The only think I could think of is if he knocks back her own devil's fruit power against her. Since we don't know what that power is, it will be interesting to see how it plays a part in the battle.
-
But it wouldn't technically be striking a woman.
-
I've been supposing it's one of those Sea King -repelling ships that you need for sailing behind the gate. Maybe they fed a DF of some kind to the ships so they achieved this ability to ward against the huge lizards…
This whole "hahaha my gun/sword/ship ate a devil fruit seems real wierd to me. just how the hell could an inanimate object eat a fruit? i mean we've seen devil fruit being kept in boxes so whats to stop the box from 'eating' the fruit?
-
That's the million dollar question. Most theories I've seen here say that you use the juice, but that is most likely not it. Since someone mentioned Calipha cutting her fruit before eating it, it conflicts with that theory. I'd love to see someone come up with something credible that can be the process of giving an inanimate object a DF power.
-
i mean we've seen devil fruit being kept in boxes so whats to stop the box from 'eating' the fruit?
Maybe the box either wasn't forced to or hungry.
-
Great chapter! Finally, we know who's facing off against who….
I hope that Oda doesn't switch up fighters like in Alabasta. With Robin getting closer to the Gate of Justice every second, I don't think the Strawhats can spare the time in switching up opponents.
Jyabura vs. Sogeking...... I've been speechless for the past day. This is ten shades of awesomeness that only Oda can think up. This is definately the fight I'm looking foward to the most.
Regarding Chopper, I believe that he will use his sense of smell to find Robin, and keep them from leaving until Luffy arrives. And once Luffy arrives, he can fight Spandam/Funkfried.
I pray to god (Oda) that Calipha doesn't have a "manly" devil fruit. Sanji needs to get over his main weakness, fighting women. My prediction for their fight is that the first chapter deals with Sanji overcoming this weakness. And although it goes against his morals, I could definately see Sanji hitting Calipha for the reason of saving Robin's life. And then once he's willing to seriously fight Calipha, the second/third chapter would deal with Calipha's DF.....
-
I am of the mindset that Sanji would not hit her anymore than he would punch someone in a fight. He will either redirect Califa's attacks or neutralize her in some way (tie her up, seduce her, etc.).
Spandam does seem rather confident still. I guess the power of the Buster Call is still in his grasp, but he probably won't try to use it until most of the CP9 members are defeated or Luffy starts to signifcantly weaken Lucci.
By the way, since Smoker and Luffy both had their powers nullified in Crocodile's seastone cage, wouldn't Lucci feel some of the seastone's effects being near the handcuffs (he could just be trained to not feel the effects of seastone as severely)?
The Luffy-Roger connection is a strange one, but given that there are only a few different routes through the Grand Line (http://groups.msn.com/OnePieceManga/onepiecechapter105.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=2079).
There's a chance that Roger and Luffy could follow the exact same path, but that chance may include anyone who follows that particular path down the Grand Line (excluding Skypiea). The question becomes what makes Luffy special beyond a pirate like Blackbeard who is on a similar course at the moment?
Did Roger take this path on his initial run through the Grand Line or are all these locations just places he has visited. The other key is that all the old folks we have met (at least 65 or 70 years old from Crocus to Kureha to Kokoro) all clearly remember Roger and clearly think Luffy is cut from similar cloth.
The proof is definitely in his personality or people would have figured out immediately that he had some connection to Roger by his appearance. Also, if Luffy does reach the end of the Grand Line, will he travel back around to the other paths? There has to be something more to explore on these other paths.
-
Owner Zeff! Hey.
But now I'm curious: I don't remember seeing anywhere that Sanji would not fight a woman if the situation really called for it.
-

My personal thought is that it must have something to do with the forging of the weapon. Maybe you have to mash up the Devil Fruit and use it to temper the blade (or, in the case of a gun, the barrel). It's about the only thing that makes sense.
Of course, there IS the distinct possibility that we're over-thinking this.
-
Well, let's see what we know about Saji…
He gave Zoro a hard time for defending himself against Tashagi,
He allowed Mr.2 to beat him up because he used Nami's face,
When he saw Miss All-Sundays face he fell in love with her again,
Not to mention he had a crushe on Porche Chan, even though she was the enemy.
I don't think he ever said it, but from what we know about him, he would never let harm come to a woman, judging by what we know about him.Oh and the devils-fruit silverware idea cracked me up, but I didn't take it too seriously.
-
Wow, Owner Zeff is back! Yo. This is in your honor.
I think Sanji would be willing to fight a woman if he had to… I'm a bit anxious to see how he'll do it.
-
By the way, since Smoker and Luffy both had their powers nullified in Crocodile's seastone cage, wouldn't Lucci feel some of the seastone's effects being near the handcuffs (he could just be trained to not feel the effects of seastone as severely)?
I think the Seastone's power is limited to physical touch.
Smoker's weapon has a Seastone tip, but he's just fine.
