I loved the NKG fight. By far my favorite fight in the game.
What are you Playing?

I'm like 95% done with Dark Souls (only major things left are the DLC content and the Final Boss), but thanks to certain real-life complications I won't be able to finish it for a while.
Done now. The DLC's Boss fights were good, but level-wise of the three major areas only the town/city was a standout, but it was the largest by far so it's still a net positive.

Played a bit of Bloodborne and this is probably already been touched upon but…what the hell is with the necks in this game?
Fucked up the wolf in the clinic (which I assume was a lot of people's first death in the game) was messing around killing enemies barehanded for a good while until I figured out this wasn't technically what I should've been doing.
Played a bit of For Honor and man this game is.....obnoxious somewhat.
Bout to start up Paper Mario TTYD kinda funny meeting talking Bomb-Ombs that talk with cockney accents.

Wait til you meet the ones with the Communist accents, LOL. Or at least that's what my favorite podcast calls it.

Did you notice the mafia piantas in the opening?

@Johnny:
Did you notice the mafia piantas in the opening?
That's funny, I was just thinking I also would have wanted to see the Noki species make an appearance in more Mario games too. Sunshine had a hell of a lot more to offer than people give it credit for.

Yeah that was weird.

I think it needed a bit more polish, but it's still a good game.
Would be a great candidate for a portable remake on Switch. -

Would be a great candidate for a portable remake on Switch.Oh, don't get me started on all the GC games they need to port to the Switch.
I wish I had more room in my place for plugging in consoles, I'd break out the Wii (which I only kept because it's GC compatible) and start playing some SSBM or Paper Mario: TTYD. Gonna stick with the new Citizens of Space I downloaded recently, though. Pretty fun, a bit of a departure from some of the core elements of Citizens of Earth but still solid.

Been playing God of War 2018. Although different from previous God of War games, I think it's still a lot of fun. Especially now that I…
! got the Blades of Chaos back.
That said, I don't if it was Uncharted or Assassin's Creed or whoever that started it, but whoever made climbing segments a thing can go straight to hell. -
I bought Enter the Gungeon May last year and been enjoying playing it off and on when nothing else held my interest. I have never been great at video games and this game being a bullet hell I really struggled. From what I could gather it took me a whole lot longer to make it to the 5th chamber boss and even longer to actually win compared to how other people have done. Every time I actually made it to the boss there would be numerous tries to get back. But today, I finally won my first time and it felt great. So how long and how many tries did it take for me to finally win?
! 110 hours of playtime with victory on my 397th try
The longest I've seen people claim to get their first victory at around 40 hours of playing in the ballpark of 130 tries, so I can safely say I suck at this game. Here's to a lot longer to get the actual ending!

Played a little bit of Overwatch and I gotta ask.
What do people see in this game, regarding it's PvP functionality. This game is some damn weird maybe part of that has to do with the fact I tried out most of the game playing against the AI (which in and of itself was a damn challenge for numerous reasons).

Well it's a deep and difficult team-based shooter with a lot of variety to suit almost any play style? It has a pretty steep learning curve since there are so many heroes and each one has specific strengths/weaknesses. So you always have to be aware of what you can and should be doing for your team, and how your opponents' heroes match up against you and your whole team composition. Requires a lot of knowledge/awareness of positioning (yours and everyone else's), abilities & their cooldowns (yours and everyone else's), and each individual map & mode.
Super fun when your team is playing cohesively, highly frustrating when not. But again, steep learning curve as you will have a huge knowledge gap for the first many hours. Not to mention developing mechanical skill. Playing against the A.I. is not a bad way to start. They have some really dumb behavior but it lets you practice well enough.

If I wasn't currently suffering through Month 6 of Destiny 2 Addiction (and with Mayhem rotating into the crucible this week) I'd divest some time into feeling ot out a bit more.

I started playing the first Breath of Fire game on the Switch Online SNES app. I emulated it a long time ago and got stuck on this one boss back then and just gave up, so now I kind of want to beat it just out of spite.

No joke, Breath of Fire II was one of, if not the first, JRPG I ever played and remains one of my all-time favorites. I played the first one a few years ago and also thought it was pretty cool. I don't recall it being that hard, so it shouldn't be too difficult to beat.
-
Breath of Fire 1 is okay. 2 is my favorite of the series, even with the horrid translation, love the characters and how crazy the story gets. 3 and 4 are probably better in terms of gameplay but the story and characters don't do as much for me. (And 3 has the awful desert sequence at the end)
And 5… is not really Breath of Fire in anything but name. Its neat, its interesting, and were it a unique IP I might like it a fair bit but as is... its just weird. It's also Gurren Laggen without the mechs.

I actually have the second one from the Wii Shop Channel store and moved it and all the other software onto my Wii U but I haven't played it in a while, there's some weird timed events that affect the story and that really annoys me since I don't make snap decisions easily so I kept having to start over.
Super Mario RPG was my first JRPG. Still one of my favorites. Love the Paper Marios, too, at least the first two, and Super is pretty okay. The other two…ugh.

Played 5 minutes of Nier Automata first thoughts
! We doing shmups? Okay.

I got the demo for Dragon Quest Builders 2 on the Switch and I'm not sure whether to get it on there or on PS4 or Xbox 1. I didn't play very long and the battery on my Switch was already below 50% so I'd be annoyed at how much power it seems to require. But it's still full price, I'm hoping that it goes down to at least $30 by next year, or maybe even lower on Black Friday.

Haven't really been on top of game releases recently (a whole bunch of originally console exclusive games for instance got released on PC while I wasn't paying attention) but I saw that Blood got a "remaster" by Nightdive so I played a bit of that. It apparently has some issues but I'm sure I don't have enough knowledge of the game to have any issues with them. I only ever beat the first episode too. I love the train level though.

Finally playing the first Yooka Laylee. It's good, but the controls feel kinda janky. Also, it just doesn't have quite the same charm Banjo-Kazooie had.

I thought it had a great deal of the charm (the music was SO reminiscent), but I agree about the controls, especially during the rolling race segment in that first world and in some of the minigame arcade parts.

Been playing Death Stranding. Was laughing after seeing some reviews call it a boring delivery simulator since that was exactly what I was expecting and wanting. It's a really good looking game and though the balance mechanics aren't as thoughough as I was maybe hoping it's pretty cool how you can navigate the world. It's the epitome of "See that mountain? You can climb it".

Been trying to play Rage 2 on Xbox but my god is it a broken mess. There is a audio bug that randomly causes all audio to stop and the only way to fix it is to relaunch the game. It has happened to me 4 times in 1 hour and even worse half of theose times the game wouldn't relaunch at all without a reboot just absolutely pathetic. The game is actually ok when I'm able to play it but at this rate I'm just going to uninstall. Playing through game pass btw.
-
Studying up that problem has been in the game since practically launch.
I remember Destiny 2 Forsaken having a bug that made one of it's side quests impossible to complete and that took like 5 months for them to patch that.

Playing right now the 2d rouge like Indie Game Dead Cells.
And for sure i can say this was as of now a total blast and thanks to the Cell mechanic i dont get demotivated after multiple deaths.Since the first second i thought how smooth and fast this game plays and thats what i love the most, but the weapons are something to look out for too, especially the lighting whip!

Just went to check it and damn does it really look like a blast! Haven't played a metroidvania game since Rogue Legacy, or Valdis Story, can't remember which of them was the last.
I'm currently playing Jedi Fallen Order, but due to busy schedule can't dedicate more than like an hour a day at most to it. The combat is pretty fun and I love that the game borrows a lot from Dark Souls. But, it could have borrowed a lot more. Feels like creators took the safe mid path.
-
I've been playing through Resident Evil 2 (the remake) a few times in order to get the platinum and having a lot of fun. The atmosphere is stupendous and it's overall my favorite besides the 4th. The combat isn't quite as cheese-able since regular knives break and you can't do kicks and suplexes for extra damage. But the tiny amount of space for items and damage dealt in hardcore was incredibly intense.
In my first run, I decided to be a masochist and do the no item box and no healing on Standard Mode. At first I tried to do that in Hardcore but the limited item space + limited saves would've made that challenge way more brutal than it already was. Inventory wasn't a huge deal since you can discard key items after fully using them. Plus no healing means that you don't have to waste any space on herbs/first aid sprays. I didn't really skip any enemies because of all the backtracking. I only left a few lickers alive and all but one of the sewer monstrosities(because I wanted to see how much damage it could take.) Getting past Birkin's 3rd form without damage was brutal for some reason even though he telegraphs everything. Eventually I was able to pull it off and allow myself to take a couple hits vs Burning Mr. X at the end.
It was a great first playthrough but I have no idea why I stressed myself out playing with no healing. You can easily get the trophy in Assisted Mode but that's too easy and requires yet another run. The other runs have been way quicker as many parts of the game can be skipped. And only a few hallways are needed to travel through multiple times so for all the other paths you can just ignore the zombies without them coming back to haunt you.

After what seems like forever I decided to take it back to 2007 by going back to the Xbox 360 via Xbox One S
But with a game from 2013…..Gears Of War Judgement pretty by the numbers Gears title with some new additions such as playing as every member of Baird's squad and the ability to play harder (or not) versions of certain objectives some of which are ridiculous. May try to see what's up with Jedi Fallen Order.

Playing Devil May Cry 5 after weeks of Saga Scarlet Grace Ambitions.
Word of advice to developers if you have a game with lock on mechanics make toggling between hold and press standard. I don't know but it seems weird to play a game without a feature most other games have kind of like a third person shooter game in 2019/2020 not having shoulder switching just cause.
Also try to avoid having cutscenes that use fade outs instead of cutscene to gameplay transitions.
-
Decided to play through Thief I and II (I have only played the third one). Finished with the first game, recently started the second.
Oh god, the zombiemaps. I was certainly not a fan, especially after having such interesting and creative maps as the Mage Tower. I'm a little ashamed to admit that I even skipped a level near the end, because I was enjoying it even less than previous zombiemaps (it was the Return of the Cathedral one) and by that point I just wanted to get it over with.
The second game, however, I absolutely love it and can see myself replaying it in the future. The levels are fun, the graphics seem to be more polished and varied, I love the mystery slowly unfolding around us and Garrett's "leave me alone, I just want to steal stuff for money" attitude towards the Keepers.
I can definitely feel how much these games influenced Dishonored (the guards even blame the rats for the random noises I accidentally make!).
-
I also skipped Return to the Cathedral. I didn't have much of an issue with the other levels in the first game though. And Return to the Cathedral was only annoying because it's a map full of fetch quests, not really the zombies. Stuff like the one where you're looking for the horn were great even with the zombies. People always say they like 2 more and I somewhat get it but I don't think it's significantly better or anything. And I absolutely hated the last level in Thief 2. The last level in the first game was great I thought. Also you should go play some fan missions. A lot of them are really amazing and just as good as anything in the main games. I think my favorite is Ominous Bequest (that's the name iirc). It dwarfs even Life of the Party in size and feels like an entire game in its own right.

I enjoyed the last level of The Dark Project more than I thought I would. Seeing those monster hobbling away to the gate was hilarous.
Maybe if zombies didn't come in such abundance, I wouldn't have had a problem with them, but paired with those little unhittable spiders they were a chore to work around or kill.
I think I'll check out some fan levels when I finish with Metal Age.

I've beaten Super Mario Odyssey's main story after putting it down for a while once I started accuring a larger backlog. What a game, what an experience. Very enjoyable and fun and rarely did a play session not go by where I was discovering some hidden secret or encountering some really clever game design. After poking around the postgame a bit I have around 280 Moons and I think this is going to become a "rainy day" game that I go back to every now and then in order to grind out the other ~719. I dunno if I'll ever get them all since I can already see some like the jump rope and the revolving tower in Bowser's Castle becoming white whales but we'll see.

Just finished all the Challenges and Feats for all four games in Shovel Knight. Think I can safely say I've done all there is to do in the game.
Next up, gotta do all the DLC stuff in Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero.
-
What the hell is with the King Dice section in Cuphead?
It's like the bosses in Inkwell three weren't pain's in the asses enough let's just have a random boss rush that caps off with a boss battle against King Dice.

All of the movesets of the mini bosses are fairly simple but it is frustrating to have to deal with multiple fights. Dice himself isn't too bad though. Iirc he only has the one move.
-
Just practice being able to roll whatever number you want on the die, and focus on only doing the battles you are most comfortable with. You only have to do a few of them, and some are way easier than others.
-
Been a little while since I played Cuphead, but the most frustrating part of King Dice for me was trying to leap over his marching cards.
Aside from that, yeah, just try to get good rolls, become familiar with the mini-bosses, and it shouldn't be too hard. It may take some time, but it's perfectly doable.

I can do at least a few of the fight with no damage but a couple of them are just beyond bullshit when it comes to avoiding that.

Yeah I get that sense that compared to some of the earlier bosses this isn’t as ridiculous of a fight but shit

Put the boots to King Dice double parry and air dashing wins the day.

My god, Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero has the worst DLC ever.
"Hey everyone! Hope you really like these same six levels, cause we're just gonna have you play them seven times over, only with slightly different playstyles!"
Mighty Switch Force Shantae is kinda cool though.

Word of advice to fledging game developers if you ever make a game with driving mechanics in them do not I repeat do not
have dual stick designed driving mechanics as the default and only way to drive vehicles in game. -
A little while ago I bought the Super Mario 64 DS and Metroid Prime Hunters ports on the Wii U. I don't know if these games play better on their original DS format, but man the controls for these games were just agony. Really makes me glad we're done with the touch screen nonsense.
Anyway, after beating Metroid Prime Hunters last night, I returned to something modern and started playing Octopath Traveler. And maybe it is because I just finished playing those games, but I'm instantly with Octopath (though I did just die on the first boss. Should've bought more healing items and maybe grinded a little more).

So I played through the first three Halo games and here's my take.
Halo 1:
! Decent game with a somewhat decent story. But with some aged aspects such as the graphics (remastered graphics look at bit better), janky stop motion esque animations, the weird tank controls for (all) vehicles (in case my last post was too vague). I remember for years people complained about the library being the among most terrible level (it's a series of them) in a game and after playing through it I certain see why: Respawning enemies who come in droves forcing you to move forward…..except for when you have to wait for spark to open a door.
! The dark comedy at certain points was also weird.Halo 2:
! Noticeable improvement over the first, Cortana's not green anymore (she's a weird pink-purple color instead), Some new weapons such as the Beam Rifle that's beyond broken, You get to drive the Scorpion and Wraith tanks, You can play as the Arbiter. Now some negatives now I don't know if the original Halo 2 had this problem but is there any reason the subtitles in the MC don't cover in game dialog I felt like a missed out a good chunk of story because I couldn't hear what was being said over comms and front enemies who talk in combat, Why does Gravemind let Master Chief and Arbiter go about their business when it's pretty clear they know he's going to turn on them? Which speaking of why did the Prophet Of Truth just casually let the Prophet of Mercy get attack by a random a flood creeper what was the point of that when both wanted the same thing? I also I presume this will be explained in 4 or 5 but what was the context of that scene between the random Spartan and that Covenant Soldier where the former reveals he's hunting Master Chief which never comes up ever again in the game, Also that cliffhanger.
Halo 3:
! Weird game while it does improve upon the first two it kind of weirdly also feels like a regression was their any reason to copy the original Halo's final sequence which is just as tedious and awful as the originals except they give you checkpoints this time around and the jump triggers a cutscene. You can't play as Arbiter for some reason, Brutes who you only fought towards the end of the game have to be fought here repeatedly from start to finish and are almost as annoying here as they were in two, The Flood of course are back and just as annoying especially since they now have Brutes and whatever the hell the bug variants are that tank shots, way markers don't always come up which can make proceeding in the right direction difficult, some of the new weapons and vehicles you drive are introduced rather late, the visions with Cortana (and later the Gravemind) were a little too much, and of course in game dialog in the MCC is still not subtitled.
! Also I get that either Johnson or Keyes were going to die but did you have to kill both of them and in such stupid ways? On that note was anyone surprised when Spark decided to go evil (for no logical reason), Also is it explained how Chief went from boarding a ship at the end of 2 to apparently making an orbital drop in 3 and how in between 2 & 3 he forgot he was essentially teaming up with the Arbiter? I also like how they for whatever reason limited the appearance of the Beam Rifle but kept the Covenant Carbine.
! Also fuck the two segments with the Scarab tanks. And the High Charity levelHalo 4:
Only just played this but even with only playing the first mission you can tell they improved a number of things predictably the enemy designs, Cortana whose crossed over a bit into uncanny valley, and the guns. and yes they subtitled the in game dialog…...none of the combat dialog apparently though you also apparently don't need to turn on your flashlight anymore.

Played a few hours of Nioh 2. I dunno if the game is easier or if I just got better but I'm struggling a lot less than I did in Nioh 1. It seems a lot better balanced though there's still some unfair bullshit here and there. Levels have this weird combination of short hard paths or long, easier detours which I'm digging. The new Burst Counter mechanic is shockingly powerful to the point that I hope they don't nerf it in a patch. Keeping track of gear stats and extremely strict stamina management is still a pain I wish they'd cut back on though.

I really should play that game through again. Was in a weird place in the personal life when I played through it the first time and I feel like I was too distracted to appreciate just how creative and fun that game really was.
