Somehow they managed to make a 15 minute trailer and yet only reveal one new Pokémon (which also happens to be the only one we had a leaked picture as well).
Beyond that, I can’t complain. I was wary the only reason the game was sounding exciting was because the trailers were skillfully avoiding showing the actual gameplay, but now they delivered exactly that.

Me: seriously? Instead of showing the game they will again repeat the same thing they said in every recent trailer?

I think it’s based on a sand toy considering the shape and the squishy/elastic description.
It has an exclusive ability that boosts its electric attacks after it takes an attack. Considering it might get Belly drum and that Tera doubles the STAB bonus, it might be pretty broken with an Electric Tera type.
The bumps are fake eyes, the real ones are the tiny yellow spots… i would have like it better the other way.

There's a chance the copy given to those early reviewers is not the last and the performance issues might not be present or at least diminished on the real thing. But based on what we could already see from some of the allowed footage, I am not feeling like buying it on release at least.
Call me a chump cuz all I ever care about is getting more Pokémon creatures, cuz me and my wife get both versions on launch.
If Resident evil can get good performance despite its transition into a yearly release, largely based on being able to work on an existing engine (from RE2), then Pokemon has no excuses.
But eh, they didn't have an excuse for shitty gameplay, pacing, performance, stupid decisions, and a whole bunch of things either.
SwSH's engine has been out for years and the company is rolling in money.
Arceus had some QoL changes because it was not mainline (despite how many people argue it might be) so they have some flexibility.
This shit won't change unless they bleed money and with GO and merchandising? That's never going to happen.
The bar keeps getting lowered and they get away with it because every time they release a new title, they pour the money into marketing to cover up a mediocre game.
Rinse and repeat for every title, the reason they add new mechanics is NOT that they are experimenting but because they can market it as new functions and do an entire campaign allowing it to generate interest+money, no matter how shit it is. And they know it won't stay, they will remove it and make another mechanic (that is similar to others but tweak so people won't notice) and do the entire marketing cycle again.
For an AAA and a flagship/console seller equivalent, there really is no excuse for this to be this but the consumers allow it as long as it's cute and casual and as long as everything is shiny and nice so the company gets away with it every time.
What happened to BDSP was fucking illegal.
I work in Business and have some experience with Marketing, and I can say for certain that there is little to no soul given to the gameplay side of things but every action is entirely made based on monetary returns instead of what makes a game fun or respecting the og fans. The Pokemon mainline series and how the company has developed throughout the years is an insanely good case study to do and look at.
I thought i'd be over it after Sw/Sh, but i'm still getting sad after seeing the wasted potential with these games ... Especially since they're now going the open world route that i always wished for,
@Zek Hey man, as long as you and your wife have fun with the games together, there's nothing chumpy(?) about it.
There's a lot left to be desired for the franchise and it bugs a lot of people. BDSP is the first remake I didn't pick up because I was disappointed with how things turned out (I wasn't a fan of ILCA's work on Home too lol), but for the people who genuinely liked it, I'm happy for them.
I'm personally lacking the hype akin to the alola region, but I'm still probably going to have a lot of fun somehow. Funny how some games can do that.

I used to play GO a lot when it came out but I've come to really dislike everything about it, lol.
I like Gimmighoul a lot. Feels fresh. I've seen complaints about it being a similar mechanic to voltorb/electrode, but that seems petty to me.
I know “this doesn’t look like a Pokémon” is the most recurrent complaint people throw at any Pokémon they dislike, but this one is really giving me that feeling.
Which doesn’t mean it can’t grow on me, Dottler and Orbeetle looked to me like Sonic monsters instead of Pokémon and nowadays they are among my all time favorites.
But… yeah, for now I am really disliking this little guy. Something about it and Bellibolt just give me “AI generated” feelings.
I'm all for more ghosts. I've always loved the non-elemental pokemon types.

Donphan is a top5 Pokémon for me, so the thing I was looking forward the most in SV was what it would get to match Ursaluna.
We don’t know yet if those things are formally considered “forms” (from leaked info, it seems they have their own names and dex numbers), but to me that’s good enough.
Great Tusk looks just perfect (too bad it didn’t happened 5 generations ago or it would have been a proper Ancient Power evolution).
Iron Treads is pretty great too, with how serious it is despite looking so silly. For now I like GT more, but I can tell IT is going to grow a lot on me.
According to leaks, another of my favorites is also getting two forms like that, so maybe I might end up buying it - so far, though, still feeling like skipping it.

there's just no way I'm not getting donald duck junior even if the dinosaur is cool, but we've lived through that with the fossils so I'm fine with it.
Like with every Pokemon game i was trying to get into it without looking at leaks so that i can be surprised by the Pokemon when i found them in the wild. I was.
At least now i know i won't regret choosing the cat ...
I was also thinking of avoiding the leaks this time. But once I realized I was not feeling like buying the game on release - probably going to wait at least until the DLC is out -, I went full in.
They really tried a lot of different things this gen, a lot of experimental stuff on the new pokémon. Because of that it took me a while to warm to them, but by now I think I like the majority of the new additions.

There's really no reason to keep doing this job classes thing like it's an RPG when their classic designs like Charizard and Snorlax, Pikachu, Eevee still sells so well.
Just why? They keep trying to push it since XY and it's tiresome.

.... I like it what they did. There's some things I don't like but most of it is great and felt like this is what Sword/Shield should have been. This wasn't just a new coat of paint.
Thought was actually given, even if people might disagree with the directions taken. And I can respect that.
Of course, if you are one of those (like who i have been) that is particular about difficulty/difficulty spike/being challenging/being similar to the old games, then you'll surely have something to say about this new approach.
But if you go in just wanting to have fun....it's fun.

Probably because, as much as we complain about those, they are more popular.
There's no way TPC would be pushing that type of starters so hard if they were underselling and people truly preferred the "monstrous" ones.
Unlike us, who can only gauge the fan responses through social media and fanarts, they can actually measure it through $$ and tell what sells and what not.

okay it's not that I don't believe you but I like to think that a majority of the sales goes to the starters first evolution, same with popularity.
I remember that was a thing with SwSh and now with SV. I did read an article saying that the monstrous design as a whole was slowly being dropped for more "cutesy, minimalist" and sometimes humanoids design because of how well that aesthetics sell. If I'm not wrong, previous generation starters always had one or two that is favorably more popular than the others. For the recent gens, we are seeing more or less a tie, so that might be what you are on.
But I find it very difficult to believe anyone would think Spiraggto or Fennekin or Sobble's final evolution a better design that the higher tiers that is Charizard, Swampert, Infernape, Fergaligator. I know and get where you are coming from based on a marketing/sales standpoint but I still think that the only thing that sells really well is the first evolution, I'll be very interested and would be likely researching on my own to see where SwSh's gang final form stands with the rest in terms of how they sell.
If you are talking about social media reception, they don't necessarily translate to sales and it is precisely that we enter widespread social media age with this new games that it seems that way because people usually won't be on their posts for older games/pokemon.
