Let's face the facts - people do whatever they want, regardless of who the president is. We do not have communism like in China, where the rules are very tough. And we are playing democracy, which goes sideways for us. Democracy is good when it has limits. With the same coronavirus, protocols seem to exist, but many of them are not hesitant to violate. It is believed that if they are the ones who behave as they want, then it's okay, but there are hundreds of thousands of them. That is why we have such a situation and so many contradictory moments.

Depends on your face but for the majority of people, surgical masks are no problem, both comfort and breathing-wise, since they are made to either repel (outside) or absorb (inside) aerosols, but do not really hinder your breathing, and they are light enough to not really disturb your face too much.
The FFP2 and 3 masks are different though, their filtering system is so tightly woven that many people could be disturbed in their breathing. Before i finished my degree, i was working in a steel mill in which wearing at least FFP2 masks were mandatory due to the metallic dust in the air, and if you do something even a little bit physically demanding, your lungs definitely have to work hard.
Having said that, healthy or even remotely athletic people will not have a problem even with those masks in day to day life since you usually do not have to do anything as demanding as working in a steel mill, but people who are overweight and or even obese, yep they will have a lot of problems with those masks. -
I don't find wearing a mask as troublesome as some people do. The masks you are required to wear are either surgical masks or everyday masks made of clothe (so that you can wash and reuse them).
It's like MiyamotoMasashi said. FFP2 or FFP3 masks are troublesome, but not required. (I don’t understand why some people think they need them. They are important for medical use so no need for the general public to buy them.)

I wear a cloth mask with multiple layers. The only trouble I have is condensation on my glasses and slight chafing on the back of my ears.

A lot of the people refusing to wear masks only did so because they believed the president's lies about COVID being no big deal.
We know that's true because immediately after it was revealed to the public that he caught it, tons of older, at-risk anti-maskers immediately reversed their stance. -

! The White House blocked a CDC order requiring all passengers and employees wear masks on planes, trains, buses, and subways, and in airports, stations and depots. The order was drafted under the agency’s “quarantine powers” and had the support of the secretary of health and human services, Alex Azar. The White House Coronavirus Task Force, led by Pence, declined to discuss it. Public health officials have said that wearing masks is one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of the coronavirus, particularly in crowded, poorly ventilated public places, like transportation venues. (New York Times)

! Trump delivered a short speech from the Blue Room balcony overlooking the South Lawn on Saturday after Dr. Sean Conley issued a doctor’s note saying Trump was “no longer considered a transmission risk to others” and described the president as “fever-free for well over 24 hours,” noting that “all symptoms improved.” Conley said Trump has met CDC criteria for “the safe discontinuation of isolation.” Calling it a “peaceful protest” in honor of “law and order,” Trump made his first public appearance since he was hospitalized after testing positive for the coronavirus, telling the crowd: “I’m feeling great!” The speech came two weeks after Trump nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court in a ceremony that Dr. Anthony Fauci described as a “super spreader” event. The event was organized by Candace Owens, who has led a “BLEXIT” movement urging Black voters to leave the Democratic Party. BLEXIT paid for the travel and lodging for some guests. Trump spoke for about 15 minutes – shorter than the nearly 30 minutes that officials had advertised – to an estimated audience of 500. More than 2,000 guests had been invited. Late Monday, Conley said Trump tested negative on “consecutive days” for COVID-19 a week after being released from the hospital for treatment of the disease. He did not state which days. (New York Times / NBC News / ABC News / CNN / Politico / CBS News)

! The Trump campaign released a new ad using an out of context Dr. Anthony Fauci quote in an attempt to make it appear as if he is praising Trump’s response to the coronavirus. The nation’s leading infectious disease expert did not consent to being featured in the campaign ad, saying “In my nearly five decades of public service, I have never publicly endorsed any political candidate. The comments attributed to me without my permission in the GOP campaign ad were taken out of context from a broad statement I made months ago about the efforts of federal public health officials,” Fauci said. In the ad, Fauci says that he “can’t imagine that anybody could be doing more.” The clip is from an interview with Fox News in March in which he was speaking about the government’s response to the pandemic – not specifically about Trump’s efforts. Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh said the campaign will continue to run the ad despite Fauci’s objections. The White House, meanwhile, blocked Dr. Fauci – or any of the medical experts on the coronavirus task force – from appearing on ABC’s “This Week” this Sunday. (CNN / NBC News / Politico / Axios)

Hey I resent the article's title as bad as the dutch gov't may be dealing with the infection, you guys don't have a corrupt president that is trying to destabilize the balance between executive legislative and judiciary, you didn't have two competent health minister ousted for not passing hydroxychloroquine as a silver bullet to by replace by a militar with no links whatsoever to health, a gov't full of incompetent conservative ministers pushing for neo-liberal or conservative protestant agendas, nor the minster of agriculture and the minister of natural environment advocating for "cattle firefighters" to solve the problems of criminal fires in the wetlands, that had already claimed a third of the biome, and guess what the restrictions are being lift despite the national death toll still being around 200-400 a day.
So either improve those rookie numbers in incompetence and corruption, or change that title.

Extremely comfortable, especially during the colder days. I didn't even buy a transition jacket because they heat you up so well. It's like doing this:
!
just permanently. Obviously this is also a drawback during the summer days, but it's not like you have to wear them outside in most places.
I really hope we adapt the Asian style and keep wearing masks, at least in public transport. Or at the very least accept it to the point that no one gives you a weird look for wearing one. Like imagine wearing a mask one year ago. People would have avoided me like I had ebola or something.
(Also what Miyamoto said, but if you want to die / understand those who complain about masks: use those selfmade masks or the cheap polyester garbage from the mart. They are really nasty 9 times out of 10).

It's not so much that the average citizen is as dumb and selfish as you think they are as it is the president and his cronies openly telling everyone in the entire country what they want to hear.
When the devil whispers into your ear it's nearly impossible to resist him unless you recognize that you're being manipulated.
A number of studies have proven that humans are just really bad at resisting temptation, unfortunately.
Yeah. America has a big "Why aren't you working?" vibe, and Trump tapped into that a lot this past year. There are people who basically worship work here, the grind, etc. Not knocking people working to survive.
I'll maintain that our population's lowest common denominator is way too low and way too common, though. :P

It's always darkest just before the dawn. But it may remain dark for a while. Strap in.
People need to be in survival mode, I'm watching America very carefully to decide when and where I need to move, avoiding big populations as much as possible. -
Adding to this, there wasn’t a case in the beginning of a japanese citizen that was in South Korea, got it, got healed. Went back to Japan and caught it again.
That’s mainly the way the don’t know if the vaccine will be a one shot deal or you will have to take another after a time.

Given that COVID is related to the flu, we may end up getting our yearly COVID shots as well as flu shots.

Been alive 28 years, and no year has felt anything close to 2020 for me, not even 2008, not even 2001.
Just is what it is, this is like "Berserk" level darkness, or pretty damn close. Some won't be able to cope, only the strong will. Examples of people not coping well are the numerous Americans saying "haha this virus will disappear at the election, it's all a political ploy".Just gotta try your hardest not to catch it. If you do, pray. I have no idea if it's more effective or not, but I've been wearing 2 masks now. Tried to go to a hospital to get the good effective masks that they're using, wouldn't let me have one though. Gonna have to go online to find one when I can.
I'd say it's quite worth living through all this though, for One Piece, for interesting world changes. Gonna be quite the sight to see in the next decade. Been telling people though, get some bucket list shit done, I think people underestimate how massive the changes are likely to be, especially in America.

Look for KF94 masks.
If there's an H-Mart in your area they're sold there.Failing that, wear a surgical mask, not a cloth mask or bandana, and never go inside a room with a large number of people.

Just curious since i've never worn one
The masks you buy at the apothecaries in Sweden are pretty comfortable. Very light, you won't feel the bands behind your ears at all. After about an hour I was used to it.
What really sucks is if you wear glasses since the mask makes them fog up. It can be avoided if you put it on just right (I pinch the upper band tightly around my nose and open up the mask by my cheeks) but I have to take it off when biking.

I'm sorry in advance if this has already been discussed, but I'm curious, does anyone ever hear of people who downplay the severity of this pandemic citing these points as argument?
- "About 40% of U.S. coronavirus deaths are linked to nursing homes"
- "Elderly Americans who moved to a nursing home for their final months or years of life, 65% died there within one year"
So this guy is basically arguing that letting old and sick folks live the rest of their lives aren't worth tanking the economy over. That among more than 217,000 died "were going to die anyway", which is… ugh.
For added context, this guy also intentionally uses CDC's "6%" number to downplay the pandemic even further. He went on and on about how hospitalization rates are down (no citation), therefore mission accomplished and we should open up already. The guy is also anti-masker and part of those who believe "get it and get it over with" when it comes to COVID-19, even though he hasn't admitted to catching it.
If there's a nuanced counter-argument on this, I'm all eyes and ears, because it felt like I was arguing with a sociopath…
-
Yes I’ve seen people who have repeatedly made the argument of “old people well shame” and the low rate of death.
Who’ve also have had promoted the same bullshit treatment that Trump and others like Bolsonaro have co-signed.
And some who have repeatedly mentioned states like New York with the nursing home thing and the state still being locked down which it mostly is not.
Yes these people are stupid but that’s what happens when you have people who ether disregard intellectualism or intellectuals who decide to show why getting a degree can be a crapshoot (if they have one at all).

How long until the anti vaxxer's stop being dummies and realize vaccines serve a beneficial purpose?
When Governments open up about Vaccine deaths, and Vaccine labels list the risks involved.
That is, some Vaccines contain carcinogen like mercury, or neurotoxin like Aluminum; but these vaccines have no warnings on their labels.
Have you heard about the Vaccine death hush money ? yes, US Government will pay you money to keep quiet about vaccine killing/disabling your children. It is officially called "National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986"Well there was a fucking world war that brought famine and poor higiene conditions to a shit load of places, and pre penicilin medicine is mostly trial and error so the situation now wouldn't be so dire.
Even post penicilin medicines for fighting against COVID-19 are also "mostly trial and error"
Are the masks uncomfortable to wear?
The regular N95 masks funnels the air flow towards the eyes, resulting in dry eyes and/or foggy glasses.
Cloth/Socks mask can get wet from your breathing.
Personally, i use a P100 mask for better protection, but it does have a down side: covered part of my face becomes sweaty, with free flowing air restricted. -
@Ne0:

You have people who think vaccines cause mental retardation or think that it's apart of some government plot to turn kids gay (ironically stupid as that sounds)…..you give a very small fraction of the population way too much credit when it comes to why they are skeptical towards vaccines.
@Ne0:

No not even from conspiracy theorists have I heard such a thing.
Thimerosal is a Mercury-based preservative used in some Vaccines. Mercury is a known Carcinogen.
Aluminum-containing adjuvants are vaccine ingredients said to help the body build stronger immunity against the germ in the vaccine. Aluminum is a Neurotoxin. You have people who think vaccines cause mental retardation
That's the job of neurotoxins, like Aluminum. Too much Aluminum in your biological system can literally cause early alzheimer's, and eventually early death.
For more information on the effects of Aluminum, you should watch the English version of the Documentary Die Akte Aluminium, "
"…really makes you think again, when buying/using aluminum foil, Aluminum Antacids, etc.

Have you heard about the Vaccine death hush money ? yes, US Government will pay you money to keep quiet about vaccine killing/disabling your children. It is officially called "National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986"First: you are aware that Hg and Al are in the form of stable organo-metalic compounds, right? You now also, that this substances are more dangerous via direct ingestion or vapour(Hg) or dust (Al) inhalation. The amount of mercury in 0,5 mL vaccine containin 0,01% of thimerosal is 25µg Niosh and ACGIH values for safety in 40h/week - 40 years job is 0.01 mg/m3.
The higher concentration of aluminum in a vaccine is 1,5 mg/dose, that's 33% of what is considered a safe exposition by NIOSH and OSHA.
https://www.fda.gov/vaccines-blood-biologics/safety-availability-biologics/thimerosal-and-vaccines#:~:text=A%20vaccine%20containing%200.01%25%20thimerosal,ounce%20can%20of%20tuna%20fish.
https://www.chop.edu/centers-programs/vaccine-education-center/vaccine-ingredients/aluminum
https://www.osha.gov/dsg/annotated-pels/index.html
Second: I never heard of anyone, not elderly and with other conditions die to vaccines.Third: I had took every shot needed provided by a public health care system in a third world country, and never had any side effects. So if a third world country can produce safe vaccines, one would assume the US as much as capable.
So pack your anti-vaxx horse outta here and get back when we can talk real medical science.

The dangerous metals in vaccines are locked into extremely stable molecules. That is literally why they are used as preservatives. Don’t be stupid. These vaccines are tested extensively before they are used on the general public. And once they are used on the general public, they are effectively tested many, many orders of magnitude more extensively.
Properly tested vaccines are not only safe for use, they are necessary to prevent the spread of disease to populations who actually cannot receive the vaccines due to individual health problems.

So to put the bullshit mercury argument to the death I did the math:
52 weeks with 5 working days of 8h for 40h =260x8x40 = 83200, using ACGIH TWA you get 0,832 g of Hg in you after 40 years. Safe.
To get the same amount of Hg using vaccines, the same amount as established in the previous post of mine , you need 166,4 mL. Assuming a vaccine is 0,5 mL , and that all vaccines have 0,01% of thimerosal, you need 332,8 shots.
So yeah, mercury in vaccines is harmful for you is a total bullcrap of the Trumpest quality. -

I plan to get a Covid test soon to have peace of mind; I'm sure I don't have it since I don't really leave the house, but it's better to make sure just in case.

Remember this from a few days ago?
Today I dug through some old news articles trying to determine when the reports of reinfection first left China, and I immediately found this.
Exclusive: Chinese doctors say Wuhan coronavirus reinfection even deadlier
Instead of creating immunity the virus can reportedly reinfect an individual and hasten fatal heart attack
This is so specific to what we now know about Post-COVID Syndrome and reinfections being worse than the first time that China must have been studying the virus since at least September, which would make sense because it was pretty ridiculous to believe that they could have missed the huge rush on Wuhan's hospitals that lasted from September to October.
It also means that Trump had definitely been given detailed intelligence about reinfection well-before the CDC started warning people to prepare for lockdowns and school closures in late February, as we had almost certainly briefed our allies in East Asia before Japan reported its first case of reinfection on February 19th (if I'm reading the article right, if not it was February 26th).
-
And all evidence points to the fact that Trump knew it all in that time frame. The Woodward phone interviews show that he knew in February that the virus was deadly and airborne, and he purposefully misled the American public in order to "avoid a
bearish stock marketpanic". What a fucking dunce. It's perfectly lovely that his strategy is coming back to bite him in the ass, and that he's pretty much destined to lose the election.
It's absolutely not lovely that so many people had to die for this to happen. He could have gotten away with shooting someone in the middle of 5th Avenue, but I guess he won't get away with over 210,000 casualties of a virus that he decided to lie to us about. Trump and all of the Republicans who have carried water for him for the past four years deserve to burn in hell.
-
Putting aside the fact that Trump is a lying demon of a dickhead, we shouldn't be surprised that you can get COVID more than once. Getting the flu once doesn't make you immune, this isn't chicken pox.
I plan to get a Covid test soon to have peace of mind; I'm sure I don't have it since I don't really leave the house, but it's better to make sure just in case.
It certainly never hurts to double check, especially in cases like this.

This was a great watch, and it's history how different diseases affected everyone differently. As well, as learning about how people dying or being sick can destroy the economy. I felt like it was best to put it in here, since we are in the mist of a pandemic with Covid-19, instead of the history thread. Anyways, here's the video:

That said, people are getting complacent and the numbers are shooting back up (in the US, anyway), so please be careful everyone.
