Not bad. Not great. Coulson is definitely the interesting factor here from the getgo, but he has movie bias behind him. I'll keep watching.
Assuming I remember to get home on time Tuesdays.

Overall solid first episode. The cast is solid and likable, plus, Colbie Smulders, whom I want to stay on my TV once How I Met Your Mother ends.
While nothing jumped out at me as fantastic about the pilot (it didn't even have any of Whedon's snappy dialogue–talk about disappointing) it does show a lot of promise, especially if we can really dig into Coulson.
However, you know you've been watching too much Breaking Bad when
! Gunn… er, Mike, gets shot in the head and you assume he's dead without even batting an eye.
My only problem with the show….it comes on the same time as NCIS. ABC move the show to 9 pm and we'll have no problems.
not as great as I thought it would be, but being a huge marvel fan boy, a fan of Joss Weadon, and being interested in it's tie-ins with the next Avengers movie, and really wanting to know the Coulson secret I'll keep watching watching
excuse me, is this series a prequel to the Avengers movie or did they just sh*t on Coulson's emotional death in the movie?

Can't tell if this is serious or not….
I'll assume its not...it takes place after Avengers. Coulson lives.
This wasn't very good.
I liked it. Wasn't perfect but I'm pretty dry for tv shows right now, only keeping up with elementary and psych (and maybe Brooklyn 99 if it is good.), so there is plenty of room of this in my DVR.

It takes place after.
They haven't stated what exactly happened, but they were pretty blatant about the fact that there ARE shenanigans involved with Coulson's death that even he doesn't know about… presumably we'll find out later what that entails... about the same time he does. (He thinks he spent a few weeks in Tahiti... other characters know he didn't.)
So what are the popular theories after that line alluding to himself not knowing?
! Coulson clone? Robot?
I just got finished watching it (couldn't watch it yesterday cuz I was working) I thought it was a great start to the series.
I like how Sky almost went there with the Spiderman quote but instead said "with great power comes….a whole bunch of other scary crap that you won't understand" (or something along those lines).
Coulsons death is definitely more mysterious now

Well there's the Life Model Decoy theory, mainly becaise Tony said it to him earlier in the movie.
But me… I like the theory that he's Vision. He just doesn't know he's an android. It would make sense considering Ultron is the villain in the second Avengers movie. And, it also fits the episode, considering how quickly and well he dodged the car door.
Welp, this show got a 4.6 and is the highest premiering drama in 4 years. Guess I shouldn't expect the problems I have with this show to be fixed anytime soon with such a huge incentive to keep settling for mediocrity.
Glad there's some mystery to Coulson at least. I hated the simplicity of Fury just "faking his death".
This show's ok. Too many Coulson one liner charm trying to carry the series. I don't get what the big deal about the asian chick was. She just got thrown and did nothing that ep. The black guy was a pretty bad actor though.. I almost laughed when he tried to give ominous "I'm a hero and you're the bad guy" lines.
But it's ok. I didn't expect it to be fantastic.

That was the point. She said she didn't want to be in the field again, but she got pulled in "to be the pilot," so she was specifically staying on the sidelines by choice. We know she used to be a big shot, but for now why she retired from her position is a mystery.

Oh wow after quickly looking up what who vision is… that seems a rather radical reimagining(judging by the wiki) of the character.
I guess if it turns out to be true his powers will be a bit more limited?
Nice but the cast other than Coulson needs development, stat. And more SHIELD tech, please.
Dude, it's only the first episode. Give them more time to develop the cast.
It was…okay. A bit bland in terms of style and characters. Coulson was great, the rest of the cast is meh. I kinda hate Sky. At times, she can be charming and endearing, other times...like where she tells Gunn to go have sex with the woman he saved or kicking a random civilian in the balls to involve three more civilians to get in a fight with a deranged superhuman...
If I really have to bitch about something, I hated that scene with Cobie Smulders and that random doctor going "He doesn't know?" "He can never know!" It was so staged and cliche and over the top dramatic. Let's hope we won't be getting any more of those kind of scenes.
I really liked the theme of the episode, it was well written and an interesting look on what it means to be a super hero. The writing of the story itself...? Eh, needs work.
It was only the first episode so you can't really call this show a fail or pass but from the first episode, I wasn't blown away.
I'm also not totally blown away but I'm just thrilled to be able to watch a Whedon show unfolding live. :D
Some things I didn't like. A couple of clunky lines and the flying car in the end.
Most of it was enjoyable though:
I was fooled by the fake-out of Mike getting shot. I was really mad at Ward for a couple of seconds.
I enjoyed J. August Richards' speech in the end a lot. That was a good way to show what this show will (probably) be about.
Ron Glass! I hope he will be back every now and then.
So yeah, looking forward to more character moments in the episodes to come. And more handy gadgets!

I mean the way Coulson picked her and the other dude noticing how Coulson had something planned for that mission lead me to believe she would contribute something to the mission. One of those "I'll come out of retirement just this once, do something badass then stay on the team" kinda things.

But…but TLC, surely you must unconditionally love the episode!??!! I mean, its Marvel! If you don't, you'll fry the minds of the poor APF userbase!

So, when exactly is this thing set? Undefined time post-avengers?
Post-Avengers, but I don't think it's too long after. From the way they're talking it sounds like the world is still very shaken by the battle of New York and the reveal of superheroes.

Also after IM3 because they're familiar with Extremis so at least 6 months after Avengers.
That was a good premiere. very balanced in humor and action and light and dark. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of show this ends up being.
! I don't know if it's possible considering the budget of the series but did anyone else get the feeling the big bad oragnization behind the centipede thing will create Red Hulk at some point? Since they seem to be mixing gamma radiation with extremis (which give fire abilities), they could use this to introduce the character in the movieverse.
Meh episode(s). Never truly watched any Whedon's shows before so I'm unfamiliar with his style. It's like … hey look, there's two quirky young scientists, a female person who's like all sassy, then there's the tough man, and the reluctant agent. And when the superhero dude started to turn evil, the writing, or the performance, was just bad.
I'll keep checking it out for Coulson, really. I much prefer that one-shot where Coulson beats up a few goons in a store. Proffered the vibe. This just seems like a downgraded Avengers.
ahem
NICK FURY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So watched the second episode, I still enjoy this show quite a bit. God did the last two minutes make me laugh.
The one thing I have a real gripe with is the way it's shot.
Now I'm no expert in cinematography but after seeing the stuff that's been done in hannibal or breaking bad or a few other shows, man does it feel sloppy, the way scenes change perspective, camera angle… I don't know it makes it hard to follow at times.
this is a good show
started watching on Ep.2
What would it take to just keep Sam Jackson on the show as an actual regular, rather than just a credits surprise cameo?
It needs him.
Other than that, second episode was… a second episode I guess. Not really feeling the show so far.
I'm loving it so far.
I liked the second one much more than the pilot. That's probably because of the whole "let's be a team" plot which is my favourite thing about most Whedon shows. Now I will be desperately waiting for a scene of the whole gang having lunch in their airship à la Firefly. The "last" scene with them watching the explosion was a good start.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
It probably helped that as opposed to the pilot I hadn't already seen every other scene.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Explosion = rocket launch...
This was an improvement over the pilot. I don't like the constant references to the movies. And I still think Coulson doesn't work as anything else than a supporting player.
It's still not perfect but I certainly enjoyed the episode
Nick Fury. That was awesome.

All the more a shame he's currently carrying the show singlehandedly.
Next episode about Dr Franklin Hall aka Graviton…i wonder how that plays out.
I'm really not liking it. It's average at best.
I don't want to judge a book by it's cover, but man was that pilot episode boring!
I'll give it a try again when 5 or 6 eps are out.
Second episode was better but most of the characters are too cliched. Feel like I've seen it all before. They need to do something to make them feel more three dimensional. That being said I did like the pilot being the most badass and Sky being a double agent. AIM or Hydra can't get here faster tho.
Next episode about Dr Franklin Hall aka Graviton…i wonder how that plays out.
Don't expect a massive throwdown featuring Iron-Man,Thor,Hulk,Hank, & Wasp.
Watched both episodes. Meh. I like Coulson. Does he do well as a main character? Meh. Is the supporting cast of characters interesting? Meh. Did it grab my attention? Meh. Nick Fury cameo? Yay. The rest? Meh.
Just wasn't feeling it. Had high hopes when I first heard about it but to me, it's just really not all that interesting. I'm just wishing the whole time that I was watching Avengers instead. I know that's not what the show is and I understood that going in but it's not grabbing me on a "You should see these awesome human SHIELD agents" level at all.
They really need to up the personality depth with Agent Cheekbones, cause the only thing he's got is looks and his predictable relationship with Skye.
I think Skye and Melinda are fine, but the science duo (who are my favorite actually) really need to slow down. The speed in which they talk combined with the science lingo that I don't understand combined with the CONSTANT sass of Joss Whedon… Ugh, it hurts my head.
I enjoyed both episodes. I don't know much about the comics or the characters or some of the references, but I enjoyed it.
But why is Robin here and not at her wedding..
Anyone else hate FitzSimmons?

None of the characters of the comic have been referenced except ones that have already been in the movies.
[hide]Specifically, Maria Hill in EP1 and Nick Fury in EP2. The other heroes are mentioned very briefly at times.[/hide]
Each episode has been better than the previous IMO. This one tonight was great.
Show has arguably been pretty hit and miss with their dialog so far but this episode for me was pretty much all miss for me.
A lot of cheesy shots and scenes.
I actually was pretty bored this week.
I can settle for a show not being that great in the first few episodes, if there are elements in between that I enjoy.
But the longer it goes on the higher the need for a show to find its rhythm fast before I lose interest.
I'm waiting for that episode now that makes me go wow. I'll give it another 4 episodes, that's how long it took for parks and rec to catch me.
That said even if I drop this if the buzz is there for the later season I might pick in up again in a few years we'll see.
