Oh yeah, thanks! I caught umbreon and left the lake because I was fighting the online on midnight.
Kinda like that the weather is the same for everybody.

I didn't even realise it was the same for everyone. The Lake was sandstormy for me too and I got a Pupitar from it.
Still waiting for that overcast Corsola spawn though. I want to catch one for myself.
I'm taking my time, but I know I'll be done with the dex in a week or two. God, I'd pay so much money for this system with every pokemon included.
Got my 3rd Badge. Then went for a round of raids and got a Gigantamax Corviknight. Won't use it since I prefer my HA Corvisquire (Soon to be Corviknight itself) but still nice to get a Gigantamax Pokemon.
Holy Hell! Why did take me five Poke Balls and a Great Ball to catch a friggin' paralyzed Seedot?!
Holy Hell! Why did take me five Poke Balls and a Great Ball to catch a friggin' paralyzed Seedot?!
The catch rates seem all over the place in this game.
I noticed that before completing the last badge, Pokemon that were above or around the same level as mine were nearly impossible to catch. I recall trying to catch a Bisharp to help me catch Pokemon (since it can learn False Swipe and Thunder Wave) and even though I got it down to low HP and had it paralyzed it kept on escaping. To make matters worse this was in the Lake of Outrage when it was hailing. I tried this with multiple different Bisharps, because every one I ran into eventually got knocked out by the hail. =/
Now that I have the last gym badge, I notice I have much less trouble catching any Pokemon. In fact, I'm critical catching high level Pokemon left and right now, including an Umbreon not too long ago.
Curse the hail, though. It's always bothered me that snow in the game counts as hail, but now it's a hundred times worse as we're put in situations with hail a lot more. Snow =/= Hail. Come on, GameFreak.
I can't quite seem to find a rhythm for fanning the flames during curry making. It'll spark a bit but as soon as a fire actually starts, the next wave of the fan puts it out.
Red? Cynthia? PWT? Ultra Necrozma? Nay, a raid versus a giant Bewear is the scariest opponent I've faced in Pokemon yet. As soon as I saw a Max Airstream deal piddling damage to that juggernaut I got the hell out of there.
Did it put up a barrier after your attack? Barriers occur at pre-determined points in their HP bar. You can't damage them past those points on the attack that triggers the barrier.
Haha, nah, this was long before the barrier, I was just under-leveled and didn't have anything strong enough to deal with that bulk. (Seriously though, Bewear looks scary with those raid camera angles).
I can't quite seem to find a rhythm for fanning the flames during curry making. It'll spark a bit but as soon as a fire actually starts, the next wave of the fan puts it out.
The way I do it is I'll rapidly see-saw the controller until the flames get massive, then slow down so the curry doesn't burn.
I finally got shield in the mail the other day. Took me about 12 hours to beat. And I loved it, just as I knew I would.
My team is BunBun the Cinderace, Tetsu the Corviknight, Gnarly the Drednaw, Bolto the Boltund, Milky the pink Alcremie, and LeFleur the Eldegoss.
1st Gym down. Easy peasy.
Actually, one thing I wish this and other Pokemon games would do is give the player more hints about how certain Pokemon evolve for those who don't want to look at a guide. I mean, I don't know. Is there some big hint in the game that tells you that you have to have Milcery hold a sweet item and then spin around to get it to evolve?

I had to look it up, lol. I thought it evolved with high friendship.

In German at least, the item Strawberry Sweet says something like: 'If you have a Milcery carry it, it will spin in circles out of joy.' Which is fair enough. Other ways of evolution not so much.
I took 30 pokeballs to catch a snorlax 3 levels higher than me.
Levels and gym badges makes a huge difference because Gamefreak rigged those numbers to the extreme.
Also gigantamax pokemon are insanely hard to catch and come by, theres seriously no need to make them so difficult to obtain.
Giving them a catch rate that falters from terrible to average makes it so much worse.
I was having fun until the terrible design started to become obvious.
And i swear to god if they give me the wobbuffet npc one more time…
I really don't like the idea of having to catch a pokemon specifically for gigantimaxing. I've already got a Centiscorch I love very much (StreetsAhead) but Im just supposed to bench it if I find one that can Gigantimax knowing mine will never be able to acheive that? Not cool Gamefreak.

I think it would be fine if we could make our own Pokemon able to Gigantamax. Not being able to do so with the pokemon we played through the game with is a serious miscue, in my opinion.

Why would you do that? A bonus Sunny Day is much better than a bonus Fire Spin, Gigantamax Centiskorch is actually worse than a regular (Dynamax) Centiskorch.
Last night I managed to get the game working for one raid and got a golden silhouette one,(an accelgor ) hydration 4perfect Ivs, so no idea.

49 mons to go, (box legendary , 5 eevolutions, Silvaly and sir fetched being the ones that I can get any day, a bunch of weather dependent spawns most notably the deino line and mawile for trade purposes, and the versión exclusives or trade evolutions that I have been chipping away slowly)
Because it looks cool and its like a third new form/evolution.
Why must we be denied of that when its so cool.
Why do we have to make a choice and sacrifices.
I guess some pokemon are more special than others even though they are the same species.
Maybe gamefreak is trying to mimic real world you know like how everyone isnt born the same despite being the same race.

I was just using it as an example. Same applies for Corviknight, Impidimp's evo, or ufo ladybug. My point is I have an attraction to my team but if I wanted to use a Gigantimax I'd gave to catch a different one.
Gigantamax to me is pointless, and just a reason to make another Pikachu/eevee/charizard. To me they’re less about things I want to use and more about things I enjoy fighting and catching in raids with other people.
Also, hard to care when we know next gen will most likely ditch the giant stuff, much like it was useless to get totem Pokémon in usum, it will probably be useless to invest in gigantamax mons.
Like, eventually one gets caught, but questing and going above and beyond, for one different move and more pizzaz in the battle? Nah. Raiding has been fun tho.
I've had a blast raiding with a few of you guys. Been distracting me from finishing the Dex and the battle tower. But hey I've got some pretty neat stuff out of it too. Have several HA mons now, though none of the ones I actually want lol, and even a Ditto with Imposter.

Gigantamax made my homie Kingler relevant again. At least relevant again to me. But aside from Kingler I could care less. I will try to collect them all but the only Gigantamax I want to use is Kingler.
The second half of the gym challenge is disappointingly rushed. So much that before I noticed I became terribly overleveled because I didn't notice the lack of content between gyms meant their levels were hardly raising at all.
I kept thinking of the Badge "capture level limit" as a hint of what to expect from the Gym leader and ended up arriving at the 8th Leader with a team on lv55 while his highest level pokémon was lv48…

Besides the "catch 'em all" factor (the irony), Gigantamax serve basically no purpose.
It seems people are seeing Giga pokémon like Mega: a super boost that otherwise the pokémon will lack. But Gigantamax is exactly the same as Dynamax, except for one signature move it gets in exchange to a max move. Key point being "in exchange", meaning the signature move (G-Max) is not an addition, but it comes at the expense of the pokémon having access to a Max move… that more often than no, turns out to be significantly better than the G-Max (meaning that in many cases, like Flapple/Appletun or Centiskorch, having the Gigantamax Factor actually makes the pokémon worse).
It would make sense if Gigantamax pokémon had higher BST like the partner pikachu/eevee in LGPE, or if it provided a better stat boost than regular Dynamax, but is exactly the same thing. I don't get what GF was thinking... it just gets weirder when you notice they banned Gigantamax from ranked battles, it's almost like even GF didn't noticed Gigantamax are nothing but an aesthetic change with little to no practical difference in game.
Gigantamax really feels like they should've just been Mega Evolutions instead. And the competitive community so far seems to have disdain for Dynamax for understandable reasons.
I wish Kinglers GMax was his evolution instead.
Don't worry, they will get rid of it the next gen…yeah they could have just been mega evos(or just evolutions), but nah.
Finally got to the end of the game.
Final team ended up being Cursola, Appletun, Cinderace, Falinks, Corviknight, Frosmoth. Really liked Appletun more then I thought I would. Gotta try to fill the dex and do other post game stuff.
Just finished my playthrough of Sword and was wondering/hoping if anyone here would be willing to help me transfer my team to my Shield savefile.
Meaning I would trade my team as well as other valuable pokemon (such as Eternatus, Zacian, all my Gigas …) over to you, then you could keep as many non-team pokemon and hold items (Master ball, Lucky egg, fossils, wishing pieces ...) as you want and trade the rest back to me.
Is trading the only way to get the other starters?

I wouldn't mind assuming you don't have like, dozens of stuff you want to transfer. Given we can work out a time.
I finally spent time seriously grinding raids and have some good stuff to offer for trades. The main thing I'm still looking for personally is a non-English Ditto with good IVs, preferably 4+ perfect ones. I would be willing to offer my own 4-IV Ditto in return; it even has Imposter. I have another one I caught with 2 max IVs as well, which I can trade if nobody has a really good one to offer.
My HA mons that I could breed for trading include Reuniclus, Frosmoth, Dreepy, Hatterene, Togekiss, and Dugtrio. There's a couple more that I can't remember off the top of my head. I also have a HA G-max Butterfree that I wouldn't mind parting with. Feel free to hit me up if you want to trade. The good Ditto is my main interest but other rarer stuff, especially with HA or Shield exclusive, is probably welcome.
I actually just realized I could probably easily proc a 5-star Ditto raid, and as long as someone with a different-language game joined me, we could both catch the same Ditto in different languages and then trade them to each other. If anyone wants to take me up on that let me know as well.
How come I don't see any raids turning up in my area

There's my 6 Team members, the 2 legendarys and 5 Gigantomax (Charmander, Eevee, Meowth, Drednaw and Sandaconda).
I am ready whenever.
@zeltrax225 I haven't seen a single notification pop up either.
Care to come on Discord to coordinate? The AP server should be at discord.gg/Y92Pbtq
I probably have some time in a bit.
65 hours later, game beaten. Leon fight was as hard as I expected since my team was made almost entirely of Charizard fodder and I played the entire game with Battle Style on "Set" (something I never did before but I fully recommend. The default option, Shift, makes fights a lot easier than they should be).
Dubwool was the only pokémon in my team that could hit Charizard effectively (Wild Charge), but she is weak to fire due to her ability, so it was a bit tricky. Leon went down after taking 5 of my pokémon and Dubwool being just one round from fainting too, so it was a proper Champion battle, can't complain. Don't think I would have managed to beat him at all if I didn't come through Wild Charge's TR by chance.
Btw, can't say Dubwool was my ace because every pokémon in my team seemed equally capable (Thievul was falling behind, but then Foul Play happened. I love that move now), but it was definitely the one that surprised me. Thanks to Fluffy and Leftovers, the thing was pretty much unbeatable unless it was facing a special oriented Fire type.
As for the game, I managed to have more fun with it than I think I would normally have if I hadn't gone out of my way to improve the experience, but still… underwhelming. 65 hours may look like a lot of time, but is still around half the amount Sun took me, so maybe not that impressive due to my slow play style.
The feeling I had throughout the game is that I was seeing the structure of the actual thing, like it was an unfinished version. Galar promised "greatness", but it was puny. The cities didn't seemed fully implemented; the routes and other areas were disappointingly small; even the Wild Area, apparently the entire focus of this thing, was nothing but a glorified Saffari Zone, lacking anything in it besides just wild pokémon.
(plot spoilers ahead)
The plot in pokémon games are not a great thing, but this time it was so awfully conceived it actually took away from the entire experience since it dictated how the events and exploration in the game would happen (or as far as the player is concerned, not happen). It was so lousily put together it almost felt like they were doing it purposely bad. For example, there were events when Dynamaxed Pokémon appeared in the middle of a city causing havoc, something the entire Dynamax idea seemed to be conceived for, them being kaijus and all that, but instead of having that be part of the game - or at least just showing it - they continuously made the characters just comment on it as it happened off-screen and your character always arrived too late to see it or was kept away from the action. I suppose having giant pokémon being shown appearing in the middle of the city as the sky goes dark would require a lot of effort/budget/time/skills and I suppose one or more of those they couldn't afford, but then maybe not mention it at all? Why bother mentioning actually interesting events taking place if you are going to keep the character from seeing them? It just highlights how the actual game part is boring.
When the first details of the game story came out, I mentioned I was excited to see a game where your character story actually merged with the main plot instead of you just being a random kid on your way to beat Gyms and inadvertently crossing paths with the evil team, beating it just because it happened to be in your way (not because it was your goal or had anything to do with what you had in sight). But I couldn't be more wrong, this time not only we had that again, it seemed like Gamefreak actively pursued that as they constantly teased us with the plot happening next to you but you being forbidden to take part in it as all the research and exploration went to Sonia and all the action and fighting went to Leon - all until the very last minute when you suddenly stumbles on evil team and beat them (and what was the big reason to finally trigger you entering the main plot? Leon being late for dinner... not suspiciously late, even, he left a message with Piers saying he would be late). The plot itself is also remarkably stupid, "I decided to summon a legendary pokémon to be sure energy wouldn't run out in a thousand years from now and it had to be done today!". Again, is so lazy and non-sensical it almost feels like they made it that way on purpose.
I won't comment on Zacian/Zamazenta part sounding like shoehorned in there because I hope the post-game chapter will fix a bit of that and I haven't done that yet.
The community focused too much on complaining about the graphics (they look totally fine) and dexit (inconsequential) and that ended up eclipsing the real problems with this game. I think it was always obvious the fans would buy any Pokémon game just because it was Pokémon, but for the first time the producers themselves seemed aware of that fact and lowered their bars to that level. The game they delivered settled on just being a Pokémon game and knowing that would be enough. Unironically the weakest entry in the franchise, a shame in particular after the Alola games - handholding complaints aside, Sun & Moon were just brimming with passion and it showed.
As for good things, the characters were good: Gym leaders are very charismatic, despite hogging all the screentime and action Leon was a true proper Champion, Bede was a very nice rival (Hop and Marnie on the other hand...). The new pokémon also looked great in general and the competitive scenario got a lot of attention. I think that's it.
5.5/10
They tried to do a console game with the time and team size of a portable game. In order to keep the budget of a portable game and not cut on to their “biggest franchise on earth” earnings.
Until they do their other m (a true fuckup of the formula), or get another iwata like intervention to clean up their act…
The fragments of the perfect Pokémon game are diluted over the generations and spinoffs, and that is what is frustrating.

I mean, go ahead and point out that the graphics issues are inconsequential. It is the truth. But to say that the graphics are "totally fine"? Come on, now. Ocarina of Time trees are not "totally fine", nor are the overall textures (especially in the Wild Area). It didn't ruin my enjoyment of the game, but it sure as heck wasn't up to par. Especially for a franchise that is as rich as Pokemon. Pokemon games should have a budget even larger than Zelda, yet here we are.
and dexit (inconsequential)
You're free to not care about it, but there are obviously going to be people that do. Even I - who in recent generations has tried to build a team of mostly new Pokemon - ended up feeling disappointed that almost none of my favorites made it in. I still like to use some of my favorites, and I couldn't do that in this game.
It's all fine and good for not all Pokemon to be available before the main story finishes, but to not have the freedom to pick and choose my favorites after then just feels really bad.
I feel like a broken record stating this but the dexit is objectively inconsequential as of now because it only affects which pokémon you can transfer using Home, not which pokémon can be found in the game, and Home will only be available next year. If your favorite is not in the regional dex, you wouldn't be able to use it anyway until Home was out even if the dexit didn't happened (just like with every past game that had non-regional dex pokémon locked until the transfer system was available).
Dexit will be an actual matter starting 2020, but so far saying it objectively affected your playthrough simply isn't true (you can say, however, it has some subjective impacts since it hurts the overall appeal of the game).
Sun and moon were the exception rather than the rule, with the bank being available very early in its life, maybe even day one but I think that the bank required an update that came a while later.
Gen 1 to 2 was annoyingly slow, but from the start
2 to 3 impossible
3 to 4 and 4 to 5 I wouldn’t know, but it seemed to involve a bow and arrow mini game?
5 to 6 was the transfer that wasn’t available until December of that year for selected players, and globally later.
The only opportunity to chill with the mon rotation is that the “wild”/legacy format gets supported with home, or home having something to be more than just storage for the non updated mons. As the bank Just had gift mon with rare HA, and a list format instead of the box format if desired, and was kinda shitty to handle anyways, I don’t expect too much about it.
Those games always had expanded dexes after the regional dex. You couldn't catch everything, but they always found a way to open up how many and what pokemon you could catch when the game was over. I think doing so in Sword and Shield would be great for the long term fun of the games.
3 to 4 and 4 to 5 I wouldn’t know, but it seemed to involve a bow and arrow mini game?
3 to 4 wasn't too bad. The pal park had a few different terrains, and you'd simply just recatch 6 pokemon at a time you'd import from the GBA game.
4 to 5 was super annoying because it added the dumb arrow minigame.

So you're complaining that none of the massive 400-mon regional Dex is locked to the post-game? Or is 400 just a lacking number? Kinda sounds silly when you really think about it.
So you're complaining that none of the massive 400-mon regional Dex is locked to the post-game? Or is 400 just a lacking number? Kinda sounds silly when you really think about it.
I don't think it sounds silly at all. In the old games, it generally happened by opening up areas that we either couldn't reach before, or didn't know existed, ie: The Sevii islands, Mirage Islands, Cerulean Cave, half of Poni Island, Kanto (and Mt. Silver), Stark Mountain, Challenger Cave, and a quarter of the extremely large content in gen 5. The other thing it did in other gens was made re-exploring places you've already visited a worthwhile endeavor. So there's precedent for my request and it gave gens 1-7 a breadth of content.
It is disappointing that Sword/Shield have no post-game areas to explore whatsoever. I get not liking having Pokemon locked to the post-game, but really, it gives incentive to play after finishing the story. The only thing these games have going for them in that regard is that by the time of finishing the story you likely still have some Pokemon left that you haven't seen in the Wild Area, since there are so many different conditions… But really, that's just not enough. IMO.
Just for fun…
I wonder if Pokemon Company has data on how many people play Pokemon games past the story.
I don't feel strongly one way or the other, personally. While it was cool in Gen 5 to explore half the continent after the game with actual strong mons and trainers, I also never do the post-game when I replay those games. Likewise, I recall being extremely uninterested in the post-game of leaf green while instead spending countless hours on Ruby simply messing around with the pokedex.
I do however think it's not something that affects this game. Even after completing the story I don't feel a particular lack of things to do. If anything, multiple times I tell myself I want to accomplish one thing for the day and then realize several hours just melted away from doing raid after raid with random friends from other countries who I hadn't played with for months.
To me this is like Three Houses: lacking in certain aspects that made previous games in the series lovable, but so good at the core aspect of what makes this franchise fun that I am ok with it lacking those things because of all the fun I'm having.
I pretty much only play post-game missions and complete the Pokedex. Battle Tower is and always has been terrible, IMO.
Anyway, four gyms and four to go. And wow, they pretty much phoned it in with the badges this time around. Grass Badge, Water Badge, Fire Badge, etc.
Oh yeah, and I'm an idiot. A while back I saw that fanart of Galarian Golurk and, at some point, I guess I forgot it was fanart and totally thought I could get a Galarian Golurk after evolving Golette.
