@Johnny:
Well….I am just not sure this is the game for me. It's beautiful, very explorative, interesting story, but I just don't like how easy it is to be killed. Like the soldiers in the first area, it's manageable when it's just one of them, but as soon as there's two, it becomes wayyy more harder. And if there's three or four, then kiss your ass goodbye.
Things that help for Darksouls if you're a newer player
-invest points heavily into health
-get a really good shield.
-DON'T fight everything. Only fight when you need to. 99% of the time you can just run past enemies or lure them into a more advantageous place to fight.
-it's okay to summon other players to help you out. Vets love helping. ER also has AI summons that can help.
For investing into health, The pure ability to tank 6 or 7 hits before you die rather than 2 goes a long, long way towards being able to practice an enemy and give you some leeway to screw up. And having a shield with 100% damage resistance that lets you fully block attacks is really helpful too when you're learning patterns.
(I won't suggest going for good armor because that can slow you down if you don't have the stats for it and hurt more than it helps.)
The opposite is also true. Put points into strength… (or whatever appropriate skill tree you're focusing on) being able to kill enemies in one hit instead of 3 also makes a big difference.
-dodge rolls are your friend. You're basically invincible during them. Lets you escape or get behind an enemy.
-backstabs are your other friend. Crouchign lets you surprise them and take them one by one.
-New strat to Elden Ring? Jump attacks are your friend. Enemies have a hard time blocking those.
Or go heavy on magic and long range everything. Or hide around corners and lure enemies out one by one.
Yes, if you just charge into a cluster of enemies, you're going to get your butt kicked. So play it smarter. Its a game of patience more than brute force. It should be very very rare where you're actually fighting a mob all at once in the first place. If you get swarmed, back off and run a little then take them one at a time as they come... don't just keep trying to brute force your way through them all.
Mostly, just get used to the deaths as learning experiences. It takes a specific mindset. Once you accept that you're going to die a lot as you figure an area out, it gets easier. Heck, a long accepted strat is to run through an area at top speed, grab the item reward at the end of it, and then die. You keep the item, it doesn't matter if the enemies toasted you after.
And everyone dies a lot, even vets, its not you being bad, that's just how the games work. And ER is more save point friendly than the older games.
It IS frustrating, and it IS a different mindset to get behind. But take it slow and careful and you'll be fine. Later on once you have the rhythms down better you'll be able to deal with bigger groups. EVERYONE has a hard time with that wall at first, and the constant deaths are frustrating. But they you break through the wall and you get used to it and start getting a handle on the death system and it becomes fine.
EVERYONE goes through it for their first Souls game. First tiem I played Dark Souls I nearly threw y controller across the room because I kept getting killed by a lot of mook enemies and couldn't even GET to a boss to try him... so it felt like every time I was wasting 20 minutes just to make the attempt. But then I learned the layout of the area and where the enemies would be and started being able to just run past them and get to the boss gate without fighting a single guy unless I wanted to.
And really, invest in health. Put all your early levels into health. 800 or 1000 hp instead of 500 is just SUCH a difference maker.
