@Robby Going back to where? A pre-Israel and Ukraine war? I get the enthusiasm. But it's kinda too late in my eyes. America has become idiocracy. We’ll see how this goes
I see it as a kind of variant of "We're not going back to the Stone Age". We're not going back to a time of blatant racism, sexism, McCarthyism, etc.
Or, y'know, just "We're not going back to a Trump presidency."

We're not going back to a time of blatant racism, sexism, McCarthyism, etc.I say I say you can't go back to where you never left. And that is not a exceptionality of US, as a characteristic of settler states all continental america is indeed still like that.

I read more about Beshear though and he sounds great, although I feel Kentucky should hold onto him for as long as they can.
If Kentucky isn’t going to throw out the Republican segment of it’s legislature to get rid of their supermajority I don’t know what’s the point.
Roy Cooper has the same problem of being stuck as a democrat govenor of a state with a Republican supermajority.

@Jabra said in American Politics: A Brand New Day:
And it lasted for a week. Like, for me the day Trump got shot on stage was the most important event in modern politics, but for the world I live in it was just Tuesday. In this case it's obviously beneficial, but I can't help but feel troubled by the sheer pace at which we digest stuff of this magnitude.
Man DOESN'T get shot is not news for long, especially when Trump's actions make it feel staged more than an actual event.
If he'd actually been hit, or actually showed some humility or empathy, or if the shooter had any sort of motive, or if he just wasn't so hated that many people's reaction was"shame it didn't hit, how do you miss that shot?"....maybe it would have carried.
But as is, since Trump can't even martyr properly, that once in a lifetime photo feels less like history and more like a photo op.
-
@Robby said in American Politics: A Brand New Day:
or actually showed some humility or empathy,
I’ll be in literal hell before this man ever displays either.
It also bares mentioning that Trump didn’t even get much a bump coming out of the convention. On top of Vance not looking too popular a pick.
-
Every state should have a Democrat to put Republicans out of business the only work Republicans will work at is a Diner Dash in the middle of nowhere. The Republican Party 1776 to 2025
-
In the interest of fairness many politicians Republican or Democrat (though not all). Are worth millions of dollars so it’s not like they’d be hurting especially with tax cuts giving them a cushion.
-
@Time-Control-Magician I didn't think of it that way…..
-
Years of keeping the public ignorant of bad laws that benefit the only the rich. And ignorant of laws/rolling back existing ones that the hurt middle and lower class. Will do that.

I mean, what transpired plays exactly into his overall narrative.
They're not after me, they're after you. I'm just in the way.
How can they not capitalize on this? It's certainly not morals being in the way, that's for sure.

RIP every ketchup bottle at Mar-a-Lago.

Ketchup bottle?

…..Did this stupid motherfucker not rail against mail in voting the last time around and got his ass waxed because of it?
Not to mention is he for project 2025 or against it? I hope this gets called out in both the public and the debates.
-
Trump once again showing that he doesn't know anything.

Don't know exactly how this by-passed Bezos's censor at the Wapo, but nice article. Don't usually expect this type of journalism from major imperial core news

If you actually know what's in Project 2025 and it will keep you from voting for him, he's never heard of it.
If you think its just a pro-Trump thing and you're too lazy to look into details, he's all for it.

"Trump is old and quite weird?". YES.
FINALLY someone on the Dem's messaging team understands the assignment. This isn't the time to be civil like its buisness as usual.

Supposedly Trump might drop out in September because of the book by Maxine Waters. Oh boy it's over folks Republican bankruptcy from 1776 to 2026
-
Would be neat but there’s no way that’s happening.
-
@Time-Control-Magician My friend shared that link with me but yeah I doubt anything would happen. A Republican bankruptcy will help save democracy from itself

Business as usual the election campaigns lay solely on the shoulders of ad hominem.

I never thought the Vance saga would get even more crazy after the couch cushion rumor.

His position is weird, creepy, and completely out of the mainstream though. That's the entire point of calling it out like this.
Listen to
and tell me they're not accurately describing him and his position.
-
@Ubiq By no mean's I think a GOP conservative senator with connections with techbros like Peter Thiel has non weird opinions.
I commented on discord about his weird white supremacist in an interracial marriage natalist stance, and that only after being nominated VP the stoped following this guy on twitter:
I'm complaining that 90% of campaign efforts in both sides are ad hominem.

I’ve read some stupid shit and I’ll unfortunately stumble across more but god that’s the most ignorantly stupid shit I’ve read in probably hours.

That's a hundred year tradition of US Eugenics in display here kid, show some respect. -

Being president again is the only way Trump stays out of jail/charged for all he's crimes He's not dropping out willingly.
(I don't think he's ever going to actually have jail time, house arrest at worst, but...)
-
@Robby yup
-
I don't even think we'll have that, he'll appeal and rant after every decision, insist this election is rigged until his literal last hate filled breath

@MetaMario We better hope it doesn't cause a Civil War 2

Should be forced to carry it to term so they can’t escape the consequences of their actions

Back in 2020, I said I was going to vote for Donald Trump for various of reasons before I changed my mind and voted for Joe Biden.
This time around I'm not gonna pull that. I'm gonna vote for Kamala Harris and I put my blood to fulfill that commitment.
I'm glad Biden stepped down. Again back in 2020, I said that while I voted for Biden in 2020, I'm not voting for him again.
However with Trump running for 2024 election and Biden barley doing anything, I was getting frustrated with Biden. I don't want to vote for Trump and I don't want to vote for Biden. However it was bound to happen.
However Biden was staggering behind Trump due to his age and health, it was going to be clear that Trump will win and I will have to vote for Biden, knowing he is not gonna win. He lost the debate for crying out loud.
Thankfully the Democrats made a right choice to make him step down and Kamala taking the torch. Now Kalama is starting to win and I won't be surprised if she wins. She gets my vote!
-
@Ubiq Trump just lied he doesn't know what project 2025 is.
-
@Robby I take it, you don't like Kamala Harris?

He didn’t lose the debate he just shit the bed. The other guy did nothing to win the debate just did the same tired spiel of lying, deflecting, & bullshitting.
-
@joekido-the-Second I doubt Kamala would be any better. She doesn't appear much on TV and at most plays coconut jokes. We will see if the Democrats don’t throw her under the bus after her first term

Well let's wait and see on Nov. 5th.
-
@joekido-the-Second I’m sure the first 100 days will be interesting but just like Biden they have gone downhill after the first 100. Maybe she can make me rich so I can go back to America to make an anime or something who knows?
-

???
I don't think I've said anything about Harris one way or another. I don't really have an opinion on her so I don't know why you'd conclude that.
She's not Trump and has a chance of actually winning. That's all that really matters at this point in time.
I'm glad the Dems actually rallied behind her immediately instead of infighting, and that the fundraising is going super well, and the general public seems enthusiastic. Those are all good things, I'm getting a lot of "Obama 2.0" energy.
Her actually going on the attack and taking this all seriously is nice. " What will be, unburdened by what was." has some poetry to it. Attacking the R's with something as simple as "they're being weird" seems to be working.
I'm not enthused, I'm not unenthused, my vote is in Texas where it doesn't matter to the tune of 600,000-.2 million votes more in the red column for as long as I've been alive, outside of the two times Perot ran.
I can have an opinion on the candidates again when there's a primary and its actually a choice and it's not "continue being normal" or "end of the world".
-
@Robby said in American Politics: A Brand New Day:

It feels like every single general election is like that and I sadly don't know when it's going to stop. The right has planted the seeds of their authoritarian takeover over decades and I don't know if it's even possible with the way the US is right now to defeat them thoroughly enough to make them moderate. (A radical candidate like Donald Trump should face a defeat the likes of Reagan's opponents, but that's not going to happen - and for clarification, this is not a statement on Reagan or his opponents, as I do not like Reagan at all. Just an example of huge defeats I'm giving here)
It seems like we defeat them, and instead of moderating, they just come up with new plans to suppress voters and get in without actually winning the vote of the people.
I'm afraid we might be stuck in this loop for all elections going forward until the Republicans do win and then it's game over. Are we really as screwed as I'm thinking? I hope not.
