With Yamato's introduction, I'm now positive nobody will be joining for a while. Oda is most likely setting up the new generation of leaders whose people will become part of the Grand Fleet: Carrot will lead the Minks division, Karakuri the BM one, Yamato the Beast Pirates one.

They're the new generation, still being molded to fit that role for the future. Nobody would've thought Luffy able to give off an authoritative vibe either until he got his Merry.
Regarding Yamato, it would be amusing if Kaido is unaware that Yamato is a female. Cue shocked-Kaido face when Yamato reveals herself to her father.

In addition, Kaido is the captain of the Beast Pirates, so he also has those responsibilities to take care of. Yamato's mother may have fashioned Yamato to appear as a male (fearing Kaido would not accept a daughter?), lied to Kaido that Yamato was a male and supported Yamato in her reverence for Kozuki Oden. This is all speculation but I just find the prospect of Kaido being oblivious about the gender of his child too hilarious to not entertain. Kaido doesn't seem like 'father-material' based on what has been shown of him and the beating he gave Yamato upon mentioning her desire to be Kozuki Oden (probably when she was younger and inspired by the legendary hour long execution) likely created a distance/rift between their relationship as parent and child.
We have only had two chapter featuring Yamato but I am finding her character immensely fascinating already especially with the themes of 'identity' and 'inherited will' seemingly central to her character. It has been a long time since we have had a character so imbued in possibility that it is hard not to theorize about the potential existing for Yamato.
I also feel the Octopus that stealthy boarded the Thousand Sunny and casually integrated with the background of the crew before voicing its greeting and summoning the Koi Fish at the start of the Wano Kuni arc could be connected to Yamato. That Octopus did seem strangely interested in Luffy. Yamato knew about Luffy from Ace and likely also knew a bit about Luffy’s personality from how Ace would have described him (Ace did like to talk about his 'younger brother'). Expecting Luffy’s arrival, Yamato could have sent the Octopus to wait near the waterfall and to inconspicuously board any pirate ship that came near to Wano Kuni until it found the ship Luffy was on board (Straw Hat pirate flag) and when it did, it was to assist them. The relationship Yamato has with the Octopus could have been born from the lack of support and connection Yamato has within Wano Kuni. If Yamato couldn’t befriend any of the Beast Pirates, she may have opened up to the animals within Wano Kuni. And considering Yamato's ability in evading capture and notice, the Octopus could have learned its stealth skills from Yamato.
IF Yamato were to join the Straw Hat Pirates, her role could be "stonemason" or aspiring stonemason (Luffy was excited at the idea of getting statues in chapter 302 and 303 and of Kyros's statue in chapter 704). Through Oden's logbook, Yamato could have learned that the Kozuki clan were a clan of master stonemasons and subsequently became interested in becoming one. Given that the Kozuki clan knowledge of Poneglyph making, writing and reading died with Oden, Yamato may gain the desire to help revive the art upon learning that Kozuki Momonosuke and Hiyori are still alive. Oden could have detailed in his logbook that he left knowledge and instructions about the Kozuki art on Laugh Tale in case he was unable to pass on the knowledge to his children. There is also the possibility that part of Oden's logbook was burned out and Yamato curious to learn more about the contents of the missing story of Oden may decide to travel with the Straw Hat Pirates in order to fill in the gaps by having her own adventure to Laugh Tale and the places in between.
Alternatively, Yamato’s story could be to act as a defender of Wano Kuni and be their Guardian once the Wano Kuni arc is over.
Personally, at this point I am hesitant to believe Yamato will be a Straw Hat Pirate nakama but I can't deny that much like the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates, Yamato has been revealed to be a romantic just like them. Very excited to learn more about Yamato and whether she is aware that Ace had been executed.

Then we start to ask ourselves what will be the point of an eyepatch at all? Whoever ends up wearing it, I don't imagine it'll be a simple black piece of cloth just to look piratey. It'll have a story-driven purpose to be there, and it'll probably have some practical function: robotic eye, scouter, video projector, etc..
My only point with this is that I don't think a Straw Hat will wear one, that's all.

I'm assuming that Ms. Bakkin will be recruited due to her knowledge of Rocks' secrets, she's the real dangerous one. I think Bakkin has DF powers that would make a match for Nami, Weevil and Zeus are both living weapons

I think the second one is more interesting. If gives Weevil a purpose in the grand scheme of things, instead of just being a random former Shichibukai on his own quest unrelated to the Straw Hats. Also, it makes Bakkin the real villain to fight, instead of Weevil being just dumb muscle.

I don't get the impression that Kaidou's a "good" father, but he'd have to be the most absentee of absentee fathers to not notice that his child was biologically female, particularly as s/he got older.
Obviously, Yamato's still very new to us and there's a lot we don't know, but I got the impression that s/he started identifying as male as a result of a massive case of Oden hero-worship after witnessing his execution, and that prior to that s/he identified as female - while we don't know how old s/he was at that time, I'd posit somewhere in the 5-10 range at a bare minimum. And we know Kaidou was hanging around Wano for at least 5 years before Oden's death (and probably longer, given that he and Orochi seemed to have their arrangement more or less in place when Oden returned from Laugh Tale). Kaidou can't really beat his kid for wanting to emulate Oden if he doesn't know he has a kid yet, so I'm inclined to believe he was aware and more or less present in Yamato's life from the start.

I’m pretty sure Oda said in an interview that he’s saving the eye patch pirate for a really important character, which makes me even more excited to see the character

For Yamato the Oden's journal is like a bible. But is there written what the One Piece is and where it is? Because in that case,considering that Luffy wants to live his adventure without knowing anything in advance,he would never take Yamato with her if she already knows everything. But i dont think in Oden's journal there is written what the One Piece is. And maybe there isnt written even where it is! Or maybe there is written everything,we'll see

I don't feel they're mutually exclusive. I doubt we're going to really get a rundown on Vivi's situation until after the Wano arc is over, and she almost certainly won't actually reunite with the Strawhats immediately (personally, I'm thinking she'll return during the Elbaf arc, since it's a place she knows from first hand experience they're likely to go to eventually). And she's already part of the crew - if she shows up, the Strawhats aren't going to turn her away.
Yamato's situation is a more typical "Next Nakama Hype Train" case. Very strong intro, to be sure, but we'll need to see more.
I actually wouldn't be surprised if Vivi shows up at the end of Wano with the Grand Fleet or something ridiculous like that, since Wano is set-up to big so big. Stuff from basically every arc pre-timeskip is going to get pay-off here, so why not the events of Reverie, too? Oda clearly is going for the biggest and craziest climax and payoff here. You thought fighting one Yonko is epic? Let's have two!
So maybe it's like that for the crew too. You thought one person joining was cool? Then have 2, or 3, or 4! This could very well be the reason Jinbe joining has been delayed so much to begin with, because Oda thought it'd be cooler and more epic to have a bunch of people joining at once. Luffy did say he wanted to throw the biggest party ever, and we know what Luffy says usually comes to fruition. So how big does this party need to be?
If the readers want someone to join, he/she will join. It's just that, no patterns

I seen someone say Hiyori's retainers, instead of Momo's retainers and I can't shake the thought. Even though they lack interactions, Hiyori is more headstrong than Momo to weather all that she has. A strong minded character like that could possibly lead Yamato, Shinobu, Carrot and Tama.
Just a thought, I still believe that Carrot and Yamato can possibly join. Tama on the lesser end of that.

985 is out, and well, I think Yamato is a heavy contender and this could be a major Red Herring, but IDK, my gut says different. Anyways, Yamato has become one of the main focuses this arc and very quickly, so here comes a character arc.
So Yamato asked Luffy to join his ship… that's huge.
Although I showed some panels to my brother who mainly knows One Piece from the game and he actually asked me if Nami and Yamato were twins . :ninja: I feel like Oda designed her using his usual Nami template, unlike Robin back then (In the sea of Namifaces that was the beginning of One Piece, Robin looked really unique during her introduction) which combined to her late introduction screams side character to me, not straw hat material. Especially knowing that Oda is perfectly able to design non-generic female faces if he wants.
Hell, even in term of facial expressions she already pulled "2 angry namifaces".
We have a postponed nakama celebration and a postponed self-invitation.
I sense a connection there.
Also, inviting herself onto the ship is kind of a big thing…but Oda... couldn't you and your editors like do something about the face... I defended you lol
My crazy and mostly unpopular opinion is: I think Yamato is a trap.
He's lying. He seems nervous about the cuffs being removed (because they are false). He seemed to know advanced armament haki since he was able to counter Luffy's last chapter.
His father respects his choice to be a man and trusts him enough to give him the rule over Wano.
He uses his father's fighting style rather than Oden's.
He's luring Luffy to his father to prove his worth. Kaido sent the Tobiroppo after him because Yamato is acting on his own.
And Yamato's reward will be Orochi's DF: the Yamata no Orochi.
If you think Yamato's face is bland, then wait for her real evil face.
I know a lot of people are so tired of "Nami clones" complaints, but I think it can't be helped here.
In so little time (2 chapters) Oda delineated Yamato as such an exciting possible "next SH" that apparently has a thousands pros and no cons… except that face. Like I mentioned in the spoiler thread, when Yamato first appeared in this chapter I actually thought it was Nami. I was confused by the horns, my mind instantly wandered towards Black Maria and only then "oh, right, it's Yamato".
That's exactly the same problem I have with Hancock. Every time she appears in a color spread, I always think I am seeing Robin and only after a while I realize it's Hancock. I remember the last popularity poll color spread: I was double-checking the rankings with the characters on the spread and "what the fuck? Oda forgot to draw Hancock?" and it truly took a few seconds until I realized "oh, right, Robin is Hancock".
Everything else seems to be falling in place so fast, but I really can't see how Oda would have two members that can't be immediately set apart on a face shot.

I admit I find it weird despite all the "I am Oden", Yamato goes around using a club instead of swords. That should be the most basic thing to do when you are trying to emulate a samurai.
But god damn, please no "fooled ya, I am just an amazing actor" after we had Pudding and Kanjurou nearly back-to-back. There has to be a limit.
