Chapter 897: Pekoms' Cacao Island Escape Plan
-
Like how Sanji was worried for Pekoms their.
Doubt the will remove his eyes though I'm sure we shall see him fullly transform.
-
Good chapter, good chapter. Im more interested in how they're going to end the whole "Everyone you love is our hostage" plotline.
-
Excellent chapter, good momentum all throughout. I felt the threat of the Big Mom Pirates, would hardly call them incompetent.
Really liked the bonding between Sanji and Luffy.
-
Jesus, they went all out against Pekoms.
-
I got a big old dumb grin when Sanji asked Luffy if he won and Luffy said yup.
-
Pekoms is blind? so sad crying
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
So much price to pay for this Sanji's adventure.
-
Wow, I'm amazed how badly I feel for Pekoms right here. Poor guy…
-
Was Pekoms fully transformed yet?
-
So uh… Pekoms' glasses might be useful to him right about now. Might need Tamago's cane too.
-
Hahahaha Yuen took down Sanji, I underestimated that son.
-

It's kinda a roulette of which child is stronger then others. Point in case: Raisin.

I would be suprised if BM pirates let him live. Knowing Oda though, he's probably 100% alive.
-
I'm loving how all this is unfolding. There is no known bounty of Raisin is there?
-

Gouging his eyes out won't kill him, they will probably leave him for BM. She may take some of is life or banish him if Oda wants to play nice.
-
Not a fan of how this is starting out. Luffy shouldn't have enough energy left to leap so high in the air, and I was hoping Sanji would have a better plan. I wish we got a better look at Sulong Pekoms. Germa showing up to help isn't very exciting when it was so heavily telegraphed (and where is Judge?).
That said, next few chapters should be good once the action really begins.
-
Luffy shouldn't have enough energy left to leap so high in the air
I'm pretty sure that was his last bit of energy, since he fell asleep as soon as Sanji grabbed him.
-
I don't think they'll actually get a chance to gouge out his eyes, but he will not look pretty, that's for sure.
-
@Galaxy:
I'm pretty sure that was his last bit of energy, since he fell asleep as soon as soon as Sanji grabbed him.
I actually didn't notice that my first time through. That's a nice touch, although I see it more as a sign of Luffy being comfortable now that he's with Sanji, rather than a sign of exhaustion.
-
So what's left to play out at this point?
Bege's group is dealing with Mama
Luffy/Sanji are now with Germa against a bunch of BMP forces
Straw Hat group is just offshore with Smoothie closing in
Pudding's current status is unknownThe Cacao groups should be able to escape just fine since Big Mom herself isn't there and they got Germa to assist them.
Big Mom is far away now, so will she interact with the Straw Hats again before they take leave?
Where will they head to after Cacao? -
This chapter was a blast!
Several times it seemed like Oda might settle on one thing saving the day for Luffy - Pekoms' Sulong form, Sanji's arrival, but the Big Mom Pirates managed to address those things well. People who didn't like how the Sunny crew managed to work well against Big Mom should like this considering how steep of a challenge the Big Mom Pirates have posed all in a few short pages. While I might have preferred it if Pekoms had managed to go on the offensive more before he was overwhelmed, I thought it was good to demonstrate that Sulong isn't an easy out for every circumstance, which may have been a worry when Carrot first debuted it.
That being said, Sanji kicking Raisin away was fucking cathartic and was one of my favorite panels of the chapter. Here's hoping he gets more enemies to work with, especially now that his family's here to watch him. I do hope next chapter continues having the plot swing between sides and that the Germa doesn't let the Straw Hats gain a significant advantage against the BMP's.
I adore Yuen and his ballooning staff. I don't know, he just naturally pulls off a performance that draws attention to himself. Also, he's pretty much the villain equivalent of "spot the anime main character":
To cap it all off, yeah, this chapter made it HUGELY clear that Pedro is going to be alive. No way Oda just throws that tidbit of him being the only one to save Pekoms dying from Sulong. NOW…I still wouldn't completely reject the idea of him not making it out of this arc alive. If his lifespan situation is not rectified, than this battle on Cacao Island may provide a way for him to not only go out for real, but to do so with conclusiveness as opposed to the suddenness of his sacrifice on the coast of Whole Cake. Maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part, but needless to say I'm quite intrigued on how this turn of events will play out.

You can see the BM kids and other fodders attacking him next panel and that's what made Sanji look away.

RL people walk through fire when their life is at stake. What do you want him to do? His life was on the line, he had no idea Sanji will be out there. You want him to rollover and die?

Only the guy that gouge the eyes, you could see blood splatter close to the sickle/axe. The rest were just making noise.

I admit it's just a nitpick, but it's still a really simple thing to fix. Just have the Luffy/Raisen confrontation happen on the ground, and have Sanji swoop in there.

Why would Raisin be the only one attacking when the orders was for everyone to kill Luffy? He jumped up and he had no energy to do anything about Raisin if not for Sanji. Yes his energy is gone but he's not out yet. He was ready for round 4 when he thought Katakuri is not done yet, why won't he be able to jump?
Luffy's injuries at this moment is on par with Marineford but he was still moving/attcking until the shock of Ace's death.
-
Sanji doesn't really need it but it'd be kinda cool to see if, after all these years, Judge or Reiju or somebody had a made and kept a Number 3 Raid Suit and gave it to him next chapter …
-

Good point. That makes sense.
I guess I just would have preferred it if Luffy was so exhausted that it was clear (moreso than it is now) that he can't help right now, and has to rely on his friends.
-
Luffy's asleep now guys, his stamina can't hurt you anymore.

Poor Luffy,….........He can't win in any situation.
-
pekoms' sacrifice is more dramatic and impactful than pedro's. I feel really bad for pekoms.
-
I'd only agree if he actually had his eyes gouged out.

Really? Brook and Chopper were at the verge of death.

I think he hidden in his tourtle shell in momen when they attacked him. CoA haki + his shell that he hyped to be as hard as diamond would be enough to stop the damage.
He was able to activate his shell in middle of bullet barrage from Bege so he can do it split second.
Also I love his character design and that he still has plenty more to show us. I imagine that Luffy will get to hear/reach him while he is in his Sulong form. Maybe with help of that Voice of All Things or maybe even without it. I want Pekoms to join strawhats for at least Wano arc, I really enjoy him.
-
You know, I was complaining for the longest time that the Big Mom Pirates didn't feel awfully threatening aside from Katakuri and Pespero due to Luffy and co running rings around all of them, but Oven taking out Pekoms there before he has a chance to complete his transformation and Yuen managing to ground Sanji and Luffy really helped this chapter.
Actually felt like Oven was a competent threat using his heat powers to save Brulee like that and having prepared countermeasures to a few possible outcomes. Very nice. And oh hey; Snack's face!

If that was the case, then he definitely wouldn't have screamed like that, to the point where it even distracted Sanji. Also blood clearly spilled. So the question is if they attacked his eyes, or another part of his body.
-
This chapter has made me smile. I'm glad to see the younger generation cause some chaos for the older generation. Interested to see if Sanji + Germa team up.
-
Really? Brook and Chopper were at the verge of death.
maybe because pedro just blow himself up real quick (and the fact that he most likely will survive, knowing oda) while in pekoms' case, he is being tortured, screaming, struggling, etc.
-
It was a fun read, although nothing spectacular happened.
The BM pirates were pretty decent.
-
really short chapter where things went exactly as predicted.
not much to say other than it's strange to see luffy accept pekoms' sacrifice so quickly

yea he's so used to people scapegoating for him by now none of us will ever be surprised again. it's pretty established this is one of Luffy's innate abilities, the color of plot armament haki.

how will nami use zeus that for sure will be answered and also i really think with the germa going in and all the commotion pekoms will go sulong and pedro will appear to save everyone from pekoms lol
-
Chapter felt too short.
They could put Snack or something.
-
As I said in other posts, looks like Sanji is going to get some upgrade using a Black Raid Suit. He looks overpowered by the others constantly in this arc.
-
Really enjoyed the chapter. Glad Smoothie didn't disappoint me by doing something. She's a female Sanji by now.
And Pekoms definitely isn't blind yet. They probably missed his eyes since they're so tiny. If he's gonna lose any eyes, I reckon he'll only lose one, and he won't be sorry since it will make him look like Pedro a little.

Not sure how much I like the idea. Then again, he does seem to need something. I'd prefer that something was his serious mode, though. Snap out of it, son!

In my opinion Oda will still show him superior to his siblings when it comes to Combat Power. Germa, for example Ichiji can be shown clearly overpowered by some of Big Mom fighters and Sanji can smash them away, plenty more potential to show off Sanji.
Also I expect that he will get back at Sky Walking out of Island with Luffy rather soon. I do expect Daifuku to be Sanjis enemy when he will be on his way out of island with Luffy. Fact that Sanji was overwhelmed by mass of enemies does not make it impossible to save his captain with a ton of effor and help of Germa.
People here often think like children and react instantly without thinking much or at all.
Who know what bounty Raisin has and he was one-shotted by Sanji. Other guy smashed Sanji into the ground because of Pekoms screaming and still Sanji looks to be unfazed by that attack. If Oda reveals bounties of those two Big Mom kids to be like over 300mln for Raisin and even more for other guy then forum would say that Sanji is helluva strong already.
Oda is playing with our expectations and I am sure it will pay off like always.
No raid suit for Sanji. Life Return or that sort of thing would be best in my opinion. Lets wait and see. Oda just stripped Sanji from Sky Walk being that special so he will surely give us something new from him.

Time for Luffy's wild beast taming to come into play. After the sea kings and Zou, a wild mink shouldn't be out of Luffy's reach.
-
Pekoms eyes are to small to be stabbed. You can't stab what you can't find.
Should also be fun when the scales are leveled like this.
Without overwhelming numbers the BM dudes don't seem all that hot.
-

Maybe he grabbed a random Big Mom pirate to use as a human shield and he is the one screaming

I like this idea
