how do you Steve Harvey best picture

Oscars 2017
-
-
This is the best ending to the Oscars ever.
-
Jimmy Kimmel said he doesn't know what happened but it's definitely Steve Harvey's fault.
+1 for Jimmy.
-
Within all of the audition scenes, though, she can off as someone who didn't know what she was doing. A few of those auditions, she handed in really bad performances.
Except that in all of those audition scenes, it was clear that the focus was on the interviewers interrupting her in the middle of a performance, judging her solely based on a superficial beauty aspect, letting her only speak literally one or two lines, etc. I get if you think that the actual performances she gave in and of themselves may be bad, although I would disagree, but the movie makes it a clear point that plot-wise, that wasn't the issue at all. Disrespectful and ignorant interviewers were. And those experiences are directly inspired by what actual actors have gone through, including Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone themselves.
Regardless, TIED FOR MOST OSCAR WINNING MOVIE.
-
Somebody's probably getting fired for that.
-
Maybe they should just give the award to both of them now
-
Honestly, this is the best result. Like I said before La La Land didn't deserve it. Still a good movie but not that good. Moonlight on the other hand? Yes, yes it very much does.
-
this is Bojack losing Secretariat all over again
-
This is why Trump won.
-
Just to be clear, we are living in the age of communication, right?
-
I'm still in shock over what just happened.
-
wait so how do we know suicide squad wasn't really nominated for best picture?
-
I blame Trump. That was probably his way of getting back at them.
-

Eh? Titanic, Return of the King, and Ben Hur all won eleven; Return of the King even managed to sweep every category it was nominated in.

Huh? Then why'd they say that? Unless I misheard lol.
-
Nate Silver was already bragging about predicting everything correctly lol

They said tied for most nominated.

Oh, my bad lol. I knew that sounded weird, but I was getting too caught up in the fun of posting evil laugh videos.
-

They meant nominations; Titanic and All About Eve both got fourteen as well. It matched All About Eve in wins but Titanic nearly doubled its total.
-
M Night can't even come up with a twist that good.
-
This was the best twist ending ever.
-
Well that was odd.
Poor La La Land people. Even if they didn't deserve the Oscar they didn't deserve to get trolled like this.
-

Thanks for the correction. Titanic being at the top makes sense.
Speaking of corrections, I agree with Mr Bits about that's probably the best the way the night could've ended.
-
I think they gave Warren the wrong envelope because if it said "Emma Stone from La La Land" then they gave him the envelope for Best Actress not Best Picture.
So the academy screwed up.
-
This must of what happened the year Crash won.
-
Moonlight was also a brilliant movie, and one of the most important movies of this decade imo. So it winning the best picture is all kinds of "FUCK YES".
As much as i love La La Land, Moonlight just stands on a whole different level, and will be culturally important in the future.
Ali is reaching my favorite actor list really quickly. This dude needs to be in more movies.
-
More than La La Land (da better movie) not winning, the worst thing about this is how it kinda shits on Moonlight's moment. The mix-up is now the story.
-
At least Kimmel sort of has the credibility now to claim that he hosted the funniest Oscars ceremony in history.
-
Definitely a relief that Moonlight won for real. It's a movie with the power to do a whole lot more good than a self-gratifying wankfest about white privilege harkening back to the days of whiter privilege.
Moonlight is definitely an interesting movie that brings some new discussions to the table of mainstream cinema. Beyond that, it's a really well-crafted movie that gives distinct and striking impressions of its characters. It feels very real, like you're intruding on these people's lives; that's the sort of impression it left on me. I'm feeling a great need to watch it again in this post-Oscars haze. It's a well-deserved win, though.

-
Still disappointed that Red Turtle got no real recognition while fucking garbage Suicide Squad managed to win something. Just what the actual fuck?
-
La La Land would've won if they cast Bernie instead of Gosling.
-
Did Lion win any awards? I didn't watch it, but I felt bad seeing it nominated for so many categories with seemingly no success unless my memory is being faulty again.
-

I know he was making fun of himself, but when he said he'll never come back, I wanted to cry, "No, Jimmy! It's not your fault!"
-
La La Land winning so many awards is a disgrace.
Also wtf is with all this Deadpool wank? I could name nine alternates I'd see nominated before Deadpool.
-
Lion won nothing, Moana won nothing, Hidden Figures won nothing, Hell or High Water won nothing, etc…
All great movies up for numerous awards but falling short.
-

Let's be honest if it had won anything it would've been swept under the rug at some point.
-
I'm just glad Zootopia won Best Animated Movie. That's the only category that would have really disappointed me if another movie got chosen over it, especially since it released so early into the year.
-
Yeah any movie beating Zootopia would have been a tragedy there.
Kubo was good. Moana was solid. Im sure the others could have been great. But Zootopia was on a whole different tier. Still surprised it didnt land its own Best Picture nod.
-

Sometimes it's all a matter of who your opponents are. See: Peter O'Toole (Lawrence of Arabia) vs. Gregory Peck (To Kill a Mockingbird), or Beauty and the Beast vs. Silence of the Lambs.
-
First thing that cames to mind:
-
Are people mad that Suicide Squad won because its opponents were more deserving? Or because it was a bad movie? Because the latter doesn't make much sense.
-
Or because it was a bad movie? Because the latter doesn't make much sense.
The latter. Completely the latter. It won the Best Makeup and Hair category. Its opponents were Star Trek Beyond and a Swedish drama named A Man Called Ove. It actually deserves the award in that category unless there were other movies that deserved to be nominated, and the award acceptance speech was actually a bit touching since I remember one of the winner saying that the award was for all of the struggling immigrants out there.
I find the whole event much more funny than even being the slightest bit outraged.
-
Was last night a dream?! I still can't believe that actually happened!
-
Here's a timeline of the mishap and an explanation of what went wrong last night with the Best Picture announcement.
To sum it all up it was just a simple case of Warren being handed the wrong envelope, seeing something was off about it, and reading it anyway. I really don't blame Warrren for the mistake. This is on the Academy but it seems like a small mistake with a large impact. Everything else went off without a hitch but, man, what a poor ending.
-
They handled it pretty classy and were quick to try and make it clear that they shouldn't have been on stage, but if that were me with the statue I'm telling the Moonlight people they are going to have to throw down with me if they want it.
-
Also wtf is with all this Deadpool wank? I could name nine alternates I'd see nominated before Deadpool.
It was funny and not the usual superhero kind of movie.
Then again has the Academy EVER given anything to a comedy?
-

An awards shelf can only be best presented in immediate groups of seven trophies. Any less is just a case of complacency.
-
Are people mad that Suicide Squad won because its opponents were more deserving? Or because it was a bad movie? Because the latter doesn't make much sense.
People who are "mad" at this are actually just generally pointing out the injustice of a poorly reviewed and fundamentally flawed movie like Suicide Squad winning an Oscar when more deserving and beloved movies and directors have not.
But I think most people understand that, yeah, for makeup and hairstyle, sure, Suicide Squad had a really good chance in that category. It doesn't actually speak for the quality of the movie itself though.
-
Zootopia, meh, it would be nice to see something outside of Disney to win more often, by that I mean more recognition for films that take risks.
Suicide Squad oscar winning for make-up, everything else about that film was a headache to me. Half of the make-up probably was touched up with VFX anyway. Although there is a VFX category (I think Jungle Book did deserve to win) people who work in that industry are still plainly fucked in the ass: http://www.cartoonbrew.com/vfx/watch-hollywoods-greatest-trick-24-minute-documentary-unsustainable-vfx-industry-148981.html
-
Is there a consensus on what should have beat Suicide Squad in that category? Not exactly my forte.
