Wait, what if Kubo decided to end Bleach by himself in the most abrupt way possible, so that people would think the editors cancelled it and he didn't have to make a satisfactory ending? Maybe Kubo is a genious.

Only if there were actual people who cared about Bleach in Japan.

Someone must care about it, if they're still doing the musical.

Well of course the musical's still running. It at least has a laser light show to fill in the background.

I didn't know about this. This is a real pathway to hell.

It's confirmed. I don't have a clue about this series.
I just expected some Mugen type design and soe Hollow horns.

Ichigo's Hollow form was never a Shikai/Bankai. It was more like a Kaioken-like technique than a Super Saiyan Form.

Thank you, I get it now. Still Mugen one seemed stronger compared to this.

So true.
| "Kubo was not milking the series, that was WSJ and his editing team. Did you know that he was in very bad terms with SJ and his editors? Did you know they forced him to stretch the Arrancar arc beyond what he wanted? Did you know they forced him to cut the Fullbring arc short? Did you know they took away his creative freedom and artificially forced him to change events mid arc? - Like how they forced him to keep Byakuya alive when he was meant to die in volume 57…" |
-
I agree that WSJ forced him into the some crappy decisions in the arrancar arc… But I don't know why they are so sure that they pulled the plug early. I wouldn't be surprised if Kubo kept on extending the story more and more when they told him to wrap it up, and then they got pissed when he didn't and decided to fuck him over.
-
I wanna say that it was more or less a back and forth chain of mutual fucking along with Kubo just not caring enough to effort much in the writing department
-
I think if Kubo putted more actual content than white spaces and nothing happening to the point he would show the chapter title at the middle of the chapter, maybe things wouldn't go the way it went.
-
Can editors actually force an author to do something?
If Kubo still had his twitter…
-
Sure, they can end the manga.
Everything else is though is just advice (on how to avoid ending your manga)
-
I think it's because Bleach was meddled with that it reached the point it could only dream of nowadays. For anything the editors could want from Kubo, I'm sure that the overblown casts (that he can't even handle), legendary glacial pacing, nonsensical twists, asspull-ish conclusions and repetitive formulas for everything were never part of the request.
But it sure sheds a new light on Ichigo's character, don't you think? The poor guy's life has always played onto someone else's hand while having to deal with "losing power" shtick in every arc. Arguably, Bleach can be an interesting read if you do it with reality subtext in mind, related to what Kubo (probably) had to go through in his career as a manga-ka.

So i was searching MAL for some series and somehow ended up on this guys profile….... And he has some......interesting things to say about Bleach :
! Why Bleach Manga Will Become Classic Literature
-can also be applied to other series- "What is Literature?"
! "The quest to discover a definition for "literature" is a road that is much traveled, though the point of arrival, if ever reached, is seldom satisfactory.
Most attempted definitions are broad and vague, and they inevitably change over time
In fact, the only thing that is certain about defining literature is that the definition will change.
Concepts of what is literature change over time as well."
! Manga did not exist back in William Shakespeare's time and to keep using that period's definition and criteria for judgement for the current era's works is wrong.
Manga can be considered literature.
! Now what makes classic literature classic literature?
! Influence - they are well known, influence generations of writers and inspire discussion whether good or bad.
! "But manga is unoriginal and copies from other works"
Even Shakespeare has taken inspiration and has been influenced by other works and things, to say that only manga is like that is ignorant and bias.
! Literary merit -
! Literary merit is the quality shared by all works of fiction that are considered to have aesthetic value.
The concept of "literary merit" has been criticized as being necessarily subjective, since personal taste determines aesthetic value, and has been derided as a "relic of a scholarly elite".
! That means any work can have literary merit so it comes back to influence as the defining criteria for classic literature.
! Standing The Test Of Time - of course "classic" means even after many generation the work is still read and discussed.
This is a key point of differentiating from a currently popular series that is forgotten to a classic one which remains.
! "insert series name" sucks and is boring"
The same can be said for any work and that is why literary merit is irrelevant.
It it also the norm in today's society to hate and bash any and every work that is popular and that is well recognized, which makes judging a work by a subjective matter a complete farce.
! Bleach - it has a huge influence in Asia, the Americas, Europe etc..and has inspired many writers and authors.
The focus on characters, the various themes it explores (e.g. friendship, the aspects of death, war) and it's mix of realism and fantasy make you think beyond a mere series and transcends the series itself influencing cultures and people.
Beach has the influence and educational value to be considered classic literature, all that remains is the test of time.I thought i knew what delusional was, until i saw his "Why Bleach will become a classic literature" post.

Bleach is the Crime and Punishment of our era. It's existence is a crime, and reading it is a punishment.

The funny thing is that he actually thinks that Bleach was somehow this big influence on many writers and series.
I wouldn't call it one of "big" examples, but CHO Jung-Man, the author of Witch Hunter (manhwa) seems to be inspired by Bleach, but at least the guy actually does more in background department. Well, sort of.

To be fair, there are some artistic choices that I could see as potentially influential, including even the minimalist art. Kubo just doesn't really have the current talent or disposition to pull it off in a way that makes it look good, but it's still a valid artstyle.
Early Bleach also had some neat ideas in regards to characters and plots thrown there. Sadly, most of them were either badly explored or left unexplored altogether.
Remember, this shit once rivaled Naruto in popularity when both were at their peaks. Just because it sucks now doesn't mean it can't be influential.
My Hero Academia is heavily influenced by Naruto, just to give an example. Heck, I think Soul Eater was inspired by Bleach.

Oh no i am not claiming that Bleach can't be influential. But being influential to the point of being considered classic manga that people will look back on like DB or Osamu Tezuka work? No way in hell.
Kubo's art is good, and sometimes i really like his artistic choices but its definitely doesn't work from a panel to panel medium like comics. It definitely feels like Kubo doesn't properly understand how to keep his story flowing on a panel to panel basis that's why you see the big panels of foots and stuff.
Bleach was good in the beginning for sure, but i still don't think it was this transcending shonen series that was breaking traditional tropes and storytelling barriers. In the hands of a truly talented writer, the series could have been that level of amazing but with Kubo, it was destined to become like the way it is. And this is coming from an once hardcore Bleach fan whose first ever anime/manga was Bleach and was also the gateway to this medium and storytelling in general.

Say, what happened to the Quincy grunts? Like, back at the start of the arc, it was an actual army with generic grunts under the elites. I don't remember when they last appeared. Did they all die off from the first power slurp, or disappeared even further before that?
And how long has this conflict been going on in in-universe time? Considering how preoccupied the shinigami are with this, I'd figure some form of hell on Earth developing if natural hollow creation isn't kept in check for long enough.
-
You know, I totally forgot that soul balance bullshit after too much Hywach bullshit.

Oh yea, who knows how much damage the Quincies did regarding the soul balance stuff when they stomped through Hueco Mundo.

My Hero Academia is heavily influenced by Naruto, just to give an example.
Don't be "that guy."
No it isn't. Naruto didn't invent ninetailed foxes, it didn't invent ninjas, it didn't invent ass pokes, it didn't invent "special" magic eyes and it certainly didn't invent the concept of school kids with superpowers.
Unless someone starts wearing an orange jumpsuit and screaming "Believe it!" then it's not "heavily" influenced by naruto.
Hero academia is influenced more by western comics than eastern. It's got more in common with superman and x-men than naruto.
-
Aaaaand caught up again. Lame. So lame. So very very lame, as expected.
Rather than just being applicable to this chapter, this entire arc has been The Anticlimax, to everything from bankai reveals, character returns, to final showdowns. I can see why its tempting for fans to try and blame big bad evil Shueisha for rushing poor Kubo-chan… but then you remember that the arc is +200 goddamn chapters long and has been stalling the entire way.
Narutos ending was an endless parade of nonsense and thematic betrayal, Torikos ending is a depressing waste of potential, but Bleach is probably the worst because its just so triumphantly inert and uninteresting. Years of sluggishness followed by a rushed unsatisfying resolution, truly a marvelous Literary accomplishment. -

Think about the narrative arc of My Hero Academia rather than character traits. Changing character traits is easy–the flow of MHA is similar to Naruto. It focuses on teens trying to be the best at their (heavily combat-focused) craft while fighting against insurgents who want to destroy established structures for the sake of revolution. The teens must go through trials to develop and individualize their own talents in order to succeed while staving off the looming threats intent on subverting authority through violence and propaganda. Notice how that description can fit both Naruto and MHA.

Oh yea, who knows how much damage the Quincies did regarding the soul balance stuff when they stomped through Hueco Mundo.
IIRC, Soul Balance thing was "corrected" when Mayuri ordered genocide of 28,000 rukongai denizens. Not that it made any sense.
-
I am just so ready for the last bleach chapter to have less color pages and chapter pages on the whole as Nisekoi, lol. On it's 15th anniversary being a standard 20 page chapter rushed into the ground, truly cancelled by shuiesha because somebody just had it there with kubo. xD
-

From that scene, I really really thought Uryu would finally settle the score with him and avenge Soken.
One of the things I was desperate to have happen.

what if mimihagi was the actual bad guy? in naruto, black zetsu betrayed madara, and maybe in bleach it's mimihagi would betray Bach and reveal the soul king's mother is the real deal behind all of this????

This is so sad…how can a series like Bleach end like that? After +670 chapters?? I know everyone hates that series and blablabla because the two last arc were shit but come on! A serie who can achieve more than 650 chapters need some more "respect"... First Naruto, then Bleach... I was 17 years old when i started those adventures... Sad.
