Leave it to Toei to have half a special dubbed lol
-
It still strikes me as weird that they dubbed liked four movie-length tv specials instead of dubbing the old films. You’d like the old films would’ve sold better and been more worth their time.
-
@Zephray I think this shows that they're willing to go back and dub old stuff, now that we're in the home stretch of getting caught up. The timing sorta made sense on this one too I guess, because Toonami's in the middle of Punk Hazard right now (at episode 605 right now, this special was ep 590).
Who knows, maybe ep 590 was part of Toonami's episode order package and everyone just decided they should go ahead and dub it so it could air??
-
Yeah, the package deal idea kind of makes sense. Wouldn’t be too surprised if that was it.
-
I hate saying this but I'd just rather they'd dub what matters: The actual series.
Spain for example has dubbed every movie. Every last one of them! The catch? They havent touched the actual series in years! Remember that topic about Spain getting to Water 7? About more than ten years ago? Ok I am probably wrong and I know the rights for the show and the movies are different. But even Latin America which lest we forget had to redub One Piece and only started on 2019 got farther than them!
-
Well, that’s what they’re doing here in the US. They’re finishing the series, then we’re all hoping they move on the old films. That seems likely enough. My question next is whether or not they’ll ever bother with the old tv specials. Some of them are quite fun. Would love to see all the old content dubbed.

Judging by his reply, Major Attaway is voicing Queen - he's also Urouge
-
Genuinely really happy so many black people have been getting cast.
-
Wow yeah that’s all three calamities, huh? Awesome!
Also looks like Major has some Broadway credits, such as the Genie in Aladdin (not OBC but still) so I’m even more excited for Queen’s songs now! What a great pick!
-
Gabe Kunda was Fisher Tiger, IINM.
Glad to see Major Attaway returning. Guess he'll definitely be available for Urouge, should he ever return to the story....
-
What does IINM mean?

If I’m Not Mistaken. First I’ve seen it, it’s nice.

I don’t know if he’s not “allowed,” or if he just wants to give them the chance to announce themselves. Not sure if it’s a courtesy thing or not.
-
That… would still be dumb. I know it’s not his decision, but I feel like when you’re not actually properly crediting your actors you’re throwing curtesy out the window. I would honestly find it more insulting if I had to announce the roles myself for people to know.
-
It’s an actor thing, they love to announce roles themselves.
Guess this also confirms that Bowling is Kawamatsu since he said he was a scabbard and everyone else has been heard/confirmed.
-
Ah, you’re right I forgot about that. I think someone here predicted that so congrats Anthony Bowling Kawamatsu is real.
-
@Blake-Bakes-Cakes I'll take my bow
-
Funi has the next set!
-
@Zek YES!!!!!! runs to watch
-
For a second I thought you meant they like got voyage 4 early and now Im dissapointed lol. That being said voyage 3 isn’t showing up for me. although that’s just on mobile web browser I don’t use funi now.
-
Yeah it’s kind of fickle, I have it queued on my main page on Funi so when new dub episodes are added it shows up, but I have to go and change the settings to the Uncut episode with English audio.

Yeah, I thought the same thing for a second, lol.
This set went on Funi quicker than usual, eh?

Film Red will be available on Microsoft, VUDU and iTunes starting March 28:
-
How long before someone edits the AmaLee songs in?
-
Crunchyroll June releases are out. No One Piece in June.
-
This isn't a problem unique to OP, fyi. Since Crunchyroll took over Funi, anime releases have slowed to a near halt. It seems like physical anime releases are beginning to die off, unfortunately.
-
Since Anthony said they were approaching the raid, and Sonny phrased it like he hasn’t recorded in a little longer than usual here, I’m guessing they’ve just reached it since the Oden flashback takes up so much time https://www.tiktok.com/@sonnystrait/video/7211265157576674603
-
Yeah, “again” makes it sound like there was a long break. But yeah, the flashback is around sixteen episodes, which translates to probably a month or so of production time, plus the two week delay due to the Texas freeze. So yeah, he probably went without recording for like a month and a half, maybe two. Makes sense.
In one way or another, I’m willing to bet that Texas freeze was responsible for the delay in the last set. Hopefully we’re back on a monthly schedule now. Time will tell.
Also, that would put them around 45 episodes ahead of us. That tracks, too.

I think the Dub has been more liberal with their use of strong language lately, that is to say, they say “shit” twice in this batch and I can’t remember if there was a bit more in the last couple. I remember they’d put a few in here and there at the beginning but it seems they stayed away for the longest time. Also Queen calling King an attention whore made me laugh quite a bit.
-
Yeah, I think they tended to do it in most dubs around the time they started OP because it was made to air on toonami, and it just kindve stuck. Figure since it’s been so long and networks don’t even censor shit anymore they probably don’t care. Not to mention toei uses it in the sub pretty often nowadays I think.
-
Also, they used the word “bitch” in the Komurasaki intro episode. Caught my wife and I by surprise.
-
There has definitely been more "harsh language" (lol) since dub picked up with Punk Hazard. I feel like it used to be this way in the first 3 season, Luffy would "kick your ASS" a lot, but then from Enies Lobby to Fishman, it became "kick your BUTT" more often. But now its back for sure
-
So I've (slowly but surely) been going back and doing comparisons between the TV and DVD versions of Skypiea, and I'll say there was definitely very little swearing going on so they didn't have to do too many alternate lines. Wouldn't surprise me if early Water 7/Ennis Lobby was light on the swearing, on the off chance the show would go back to kids TV.
-
Voyage 4 is out! https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/season-1404/8d6kgwxzfz2j
-
So after listening to him...yeah, Kawamatsu is definitely Anthony Bowling (in case it wasn't already obvious by this point)
-
Very exciting! 3 weeks, eh? Speeding up a little to make up for lost time. Will be nice to me to go back to three episodes a week. Queen sounds good from the clips I've heard; hard to beat the OG Japanese VA, who has a distinctive and fun voice/style of acting.
Really liking Keith as Orochi. No issue to me that he was Tesoro, since Tesoro sounded very different. I actually kind of thought Orochi was played by the green haired demon in that recent DS arc. (Brandon McInnis)

Yes, and it's been appropriate usage of language, too. Sharp-tongued villains, mainly. I got a kick out of Kaido telling King and Queen to "GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER!!!"
Wish someone was posting new dub clips these days....

Am I crazy, or does this set cover less chapters than usual? I feel like this set moves at a crawl content-wise. Voyage three had so much great stuff in it. The next voyage to be super hyped about is voyage six. Five has some great BM stuff, but six is Ishitani & the flashback begins. Whew. Can’t wait.
Ah. And there’s a new theme song in this set. Bummer.
-
Both voyage 3 and 4 cover about 9 chapters worth of content each. I will say I found the pacing tolerable binging it, when I often times struggled to stand this section whenever I tuned in weekly.
Not a ton to say about this set outside of the performances continue to be good, but I have to say I'm really sold on Queen now. I was worried he wouldnt be as funny but that fortunately not the case, he has a lot of really fun line reads and his song sounds great. Anthony actually said on twitter he largely casted him for that scene lol. I have to say I'm kindve confused over the episode counts were getting. They seemed to be trying to seperate the voyages by the acts they cover? But they easily could've done that here and aren't. We have 16 act 2 episodes left, they could have easily had 2 voyages of 13 episodes and 1 voyage of 14 episodes for act 2. Doesn't matter as much now with the speed were getting these episodes but still bugs me.
Only other thing I can think of at the moment is they refer to it as red bean soup this entire voyage. So they either used oshiruko by accident or are just treating them as interchangeable.
-
@midod he's perfect.
-
This is the first time I heard Queen's dub voice and I already like it.

I think, since they don't know the length of this season (first time), they're just going to go with a standardized 12 episodes. They can't really plan ahead for capping a season off, y'know?
But maybe if they see a better spot an episode or two in a different direction, they'll go with that? I'm not sure who's in charge of that decision, and we can't assume all the decision-makers over there are familiar with OP story events. It would be a good question for a Q&A. Does Anthony/Mike have any say in where the sets stop and end?
-
They me actually even be a bit farther than we thought. Emily Fajardo was on the One Piece Podcast a bit ago and she said both that she’s worked on about 60 episodes over all (she started on 915), and implied Yamato had already been cast. Makes it sound like they’re at least in the 980’s or 990’s, maybe even approaching 1000
-
@Zephray You see that’s what I thought, 12 episodes a voyage for the foreseeable future seemed to make sense, but they then had voyage 2 be 13 episodes to stop at the end of act 1. Just seemed it like it would make sense to do the same for act 2 and just default to 12 for act 3 since it isn’t finished.

Yeah, I think they're just doing 12 per set, but then if they see a chance to add or subtract an episode to match the narrative, they might do it. That's my guess, anyway. I'm just curious who makes these decisions.
