Chapter 805: The Mink Tribe
-
-
now that i think about it..if no one is invading right now and it was just luffy, why bariete fell from the elephant?
was he/she really trying to just intercept the "intruders" by jumping off zou?
or was it doing it for some other reason and she just happened to find them? -
Made this
!
Explain: Zou can walk in anywhere and not on specific straight line (with what know until now) and we don't know where is it now. I make this area big and count the one week Luffy had to found him.
From PH to Dressrosa was 1 night and from Dressrosa Nami (with vivre card, navigation skills etc) found it in one day so when they found it was on an area similar to PH & DR.Now Assuming that DD's convoy was on his way to Impel Down (we never actually get that clear) I put his mark on a way to ID and quite close to DR as one day witch is also as PH and Zou when Nami get there
Now nothing with what I was saying back about the timeline (for anyone who bring that) you can make how long took all those characters to be from one spot to another

After looking up a Chinese scanlation, it really is a fluttery cloth and may not actually be red.
One interesting thing is that the Chinese scanlation refers to their race as "furs," so basically, "fur tribe." But then, it's not the official Chinese translation, and before this chapter, they were also referred to as "minks."
-
The chapter was really good this week. learning things about this island in a typical Oda fashion. Bepo and Jean Bart finally make a reappearance, and Bepo is actually a mink.
-
Another idea popped into my head- what if she knows something about Sanji and he's just fine? The way she reacted at the end is suspicious.
-
Loving the recent chapters. The Skypiea vibes are nice. The brand new world, the adventure, the mysteries such as "Electro" and the Minks being able to hide their presence all remind me of the way Skypiea felt.
Dunno, Oda in a recent interview mentioned to dislike revived characters. But hey, everything's possible.
Got a link to that? Kind of weird he'd say that, considering he just recently brought back Bellamy.
-
Weird to say this, but "Wanda" feels like such a strange name to me. Maybe though that's because the first thing that comes to mind whenever I hear it is either "Fairy Oddparents" or a 1950's dinner waitress.
Agreed… it seems like an old fashioned name to me. It also reminds me of the movie "A Fish Called Wanda". Maybe it sounds cool to Oda?

Bellamy never died, unless I misunderstood you…

Bellamy is not revived, is a recurring character.

I like it, mainly because it makes the "wan" pun less blatant. I was all prepared to deal with Punny animal names but oda is at least putting some thought into it

that's because bulls are attracted by the movement, not by the colour since they can't see it

or was it doing it for some other reason and she just happened to find them?Maybe he just jumped to warn them about the guardians before they get on the elephant and cause trouble. Aldo it's fishy that he got isolated with kanjuro and kinemon like that.

Her talk with Carrot implies that something terrible did happen.

By the way, is it Claw City or Crow City?
-
Bellamy never died, unless I misunderstood you…
@D:

I should've read his quoted post. I took revived character as having a character die and then show up later and act like they actually never died.

Ah… I looked up "wan" on Jisho and it can be onomatopoeia for woof/bark. Thanks for pointing that out.
-
Jack is definitely one of Kaido's generals, they're probably all named after liquor (Jack Daniels in his case, then there's Scotch from earlier).
I forgotten about Scotch! haha I hope you're right and there are others named after liquor. Maybe a token female named Brandy or Sherry? j/k lets see, Jack Daniel's covers whiskey… wonder if there would be other names that take after named brands more than a type of drink, like Mike (Mike's Hard Lemonade)
Lets see some of the cheep/rotgut stuff ( Maddog[MD 20/20], Thunderbird, Wild Turkey ect) for the lower rankes ;)–- Update From New Post Merge ---

LOL I guess I was too old for Fairy Oddparents, Wanda makes me think of the Marvel Character "Wanda Maximoff" aka Scarlet Witch.
-

Naming the rabbit "Carrot" is a bit lazy though.
Bepo is especially shocking due to how simple it is, but only Greg figured it out apparently.
-
I think that their death has something to do with Caesar. + We do know that half fishmen exist. The big question is whether half minkmen exist and if we have seen them.
Biggest possibility is indeed merry.
-
Agreed… it seems like an old fashioned name to me. It also reminds me of the movie "A Fish Called Wanda". Maybe it sounds cool to Oda?
Wanda to me is.. My working mate. Huhuhu .
Anw why Law didn't expect to see his crewmate again?
Is he prepared to die with the encounter with Doflamingo?
But he did mention that his crew is on Zou before arriving at Dressrosa, like they are going to reach Zou next.
Is Law plan to go under the same flag now…... ? -

Indeed, I can see Merry being half-mink. He had those lamb-horns even 20+ years ago=
And they've grown over the years=
[hide]
20 years before start of series-
his intro- two years ago
after 2 yr timeskip
[/hide]I know Oda once said the gag with Mohji is his hair (it grow out to look like rabbit ears ect… but I'd love it if he's part-mink too. That ever changing hairstyles makes me think its like a lion's mane that he keeps changing the style of XD
-
Captain Jack uses a Dinosaur Devil Fruit. The foot, the claw. Jurassic Park is coming.
-
Why do I get the feeling that the minkmen are most likely are not familiar with human anatomy and the swirly hats are in need of Law to see that they get better. Yeah, as lame as I thought that the Bepo is a Minkmen theory is , I've accepted it as a fact that it became true and its good to see the rest of Law's crew still alive . I hope that Wanda shows off some fighting skills.
-
Because he didn't have CoO activated?
People still don't realize Observation is not active 24/7?
Whitebeard had it on while he was sleeping, there are cases like Otohime, Aisa and Enel. It's very controversial and broad as of now. On/Off and how much further ahead it can foresee, levels(area), strength gauge…etc still better explained than CoC though.
-

Yeah but it's not as bad when you consider it's the English word "carrot" in a Japanese series.
What was Bepo's pun?
Anw why Law didn't expect to see his crewmate again?
Is he prepared to die with the encounter with Doflamingo?
But he did mention that his crew is on Zou before arriving at Dressrosa, like they are going to reach Zou next.that was my assumption, and knowing it's Bepo's birthplace makes me think maybe sending the crew there was a parting gift for his closest friend. Let his friend go home.
-
Well, if Wanda saw Brook it's not unreasonable to know why she thinks they're dead
@The:
The plot thickens.
Obviously the Swirly Hats aren't dead, so I wonder what could be going on with them. My best guess would be it has to deal with Jack in some capacity. Perhaps like Moriah, he can steal something from people. I wouldn't be surprised if he could steal souls, so that's why they seem dead. We will probably get to them next week, and they determine that because of the lack of decay, they are somehow not dead. This could play well for Brook, as he can control his soul and perhaps he can make it back. If this is the case, it would coincide with Luffy making it there. That or they saw Brook as a skeleton and the rest unconscious, and assumed they were all dead. It could be another stealing something fruit, as in the Thriller Bark arc was Moriah, which had the mist, and we have mist in this arc as well.
Liked seeing various looking members of the Mink Tribe. So far we have a Gorilla, Canine, Rabbit, and Bull. A Bear as well as Bepo is confirmed being a part of the tribe as well. Seeing Carrot jump high into the sky was pretty cool, and her just slipping onto the crocodile was amusing. Here's another theory I considered with the whole soul aspect. What if the various crew's souls are in the minkmen. We have four characters, and a mysterious one, which would total 5 of the 6 that where with the Swirly Hats (Chopper, Nami, Brook, Sanji, Ceasar, and Momo). Seeing Carrot doing the jump in the height could be foreshadowing that Sanji's Soul is inside her. Having Nami's clothes on could mean Nami's Soul is in her.
Looks like Jack might be the main antagonist of this arc. He may have gotten Doflamingo, or somehow heard about Luffy going to Zou and decided to pursue him instead. That, or he accomplished his initial goal and from there decided to head back to Zou to finish what he started. He would know that the Swirly Hats were there, and if Doflamingo was defeated, he could go back to Zou to find the others. He would then be able find the other Samurai at least to get information out of them. If SheepHead and the others were under Jack, that probably means that Jack is under Kaido.
Nice little chapter overall. Had some nice atmosphere and art, and I love the Whale Tree for some reason.

And why Law didn't expect to see his crewmates again?
Is he prepared to die with the encounter with Doflamingo?
But he did mention that his crew is on Zou before arriving at Dressrosa, like they are going to reach Zou next.
Is Law plan to go under the same flag now…... ?Law never planned on taking down Kaido. We can track events like this:
From Law's point of view:
• Heart Pirates reach New World, Law plans on taking Doflamingo down.
• Law gains Warlord status to reach Punk Hazard (and S.A.D.) untracked/unquestioned.
• Heart Pirates split. Law goes to Punk Hazard and the rest go to Zou, presumably using Zou as a temporary base because of Bepo's connection to it. The thing is, Law probably told his crew he'd meet up with them on Zou (explaining why Law has Bepo's vivre card and why the Heart Pirates have stayed on Zou for a while. In their mind, they've just been waiting for Law). HOWEVER, in Law's mind, he never planned on going to Zou, since he fully expected to die while carrying out his revenge plan.
• Law's revenge plan:
(a) Halt S.A.D. production.
(i) Destroy production room.
(ii) Kidnap Caesar.
(b) Force Doflamingo to resign as a Warlord.
This would make Doflamingo a normal pirate again. Given the caliber of pirate that Doflamingo is, it would (presumably) mean that actual Admirals would immediately move to arrest him.
Halt S.M.I.L.E. production.
On top of being pursued by the navy, Doflamingo would face the wrath of his biggest client, Kaido.
• NOTICE Law did NOT intend on directly facing off with Doflamingo. Nonetheless, he was aware of how wrong his plan could go at any given point, which is why he did not expect to survive.
• Things that Law thought could go wrong with revenge plan:
(a) Obviously, Caesar has direct communication with Doflamingo. So in going to Punk Hazard, Law had to make sure Caesar stayed didn't tell Doflamingo that Law was on Punk Hazard.
(b) To keep Caesar quiet, Law trades his heart with Monet's.
(c) etc.
• Things that actually went wrong:
(a) Law did NOT know that Monet was part of the DonQuixote Family (she joined after he left). So Monet told Doflamingo and Vergo that he was on Punk Hazard.
Notice though that even though Doffy knew, he and Vergo did nothing while Law did nothing. Doffy fully expected to reconcile with Law.
(b) Once Law did start acting suspicious, Vergo got a hold of Law's heart.
(Monet knew that Law helped Luffy at Marineford, so when Luffy appeared at Punk Hazard (an island supposed to be secret),
she immediately alerted Vergo and Doffy of possible trouble.
Doflamingo turned out to be a former Celestial Dragon. This allowed him to fake a Warlord resignation and avoid being pursued by
the Admirals. Remember that Law told Smoker that he'd go to Green Bit on purposing, guessing correctly that Smoker would inform
Marine HQ and admirals would end up at Green Bit ready to arrest an ex-Warlord Doflamingo.
(d) Doflamingo's contingencies forced Law to go into direct conflict with Doflamingo after all, making the S.M.I.L.E. factory's destruction
look directly like Law/Luffy's fault. Kaido will now be mad at Law/Luffy instead of Doflamingo. This forced Law to try to get revenge by
just facing Doflamingo head-on.
• Finally, things that changed the plan:
(a) Straw Hats, by chance/fate, landed on Punk Hazard. In trying to make his life easier, Law wanted to use the Straw Hats to destroy the
S.M.I.L.E. factory while Doffy was distracted with the Caesar trade/Warlord resignation/Marines Admirals.
(b) To convince Luffy, Law made it sound like his plan was to take down Kaido. So when they actually managed to kidnap Caesar
and stop S.A.D. production despite everything that went wrong (Vergo/Doffy cataching on to Law, Vergo showing up), Law had
to play along and make his revenge plan sound like a alliance to take down Kaido. So he simply brought up Zou because that's
where, if alive, he'd go next.
New plan was:
(i) Stopped S.A.D. and kidnapped Caesar.
(ii) Force Doffy to resign. Lure marines to Green Bit.
(iii) Straw Hats destroy factory while Law distracts Doffy with Caesar trade.
Law made it sound like this step was necessary to stop Kaido's crew from gaining more S.M.I.L.E. users.
(iv) Kaido takes out Doffy b/c no more S.M.I.L.E.
(d) When they actually managed to take down Doffy despite what went wrong (fake resignation), Law is now sought
by Kaido, so NOW who know what Law will do. Will he go through with his made-up,now-real plan to take out
Kaido with the Straw Hats? Will he reunite with his crew in Zou and ditch the Straw Hats?Super long, but I think this makes it clear. :ninja:

Polar Bear would be my guess. If it's something else I'm interested too.
Also… if Pedro happens to be a lion mink, I wonder if he is named after that band "Pedro the Lion". hehe

Do you mean Big Mom's lion, Pekoms?

No, the third guardian mink who was in the trees above the brawl was called Pedro. He kinda looked like a feline of some sort.

Ah okay. Missed him as I had to read the chapter before heading to work this morning.
-
I find the mink tribe already a lot more fun than the dwarves. Carrot was cool last chapter. Bepo is fun and the bull and gorilla were fun this chapter. They have different personalities based on what animals they are, rather than all having the same basic personality. I want to find out more about them and how this new setting works.

This post is deleted!

im not sure but based on what robin and wanda said , jack destroyed the city around a week and half ago (which could be around the time we saw sanji and co fighting the pull guy) then he proceeded to follow doffy and engaged in battle with the marine escorts a week ago , right ?
-
I think Wanda's reluctantly setting them into a trap. It seems rather…strange and tactless that she'd just casually tell the Mosshead Pirates "Oh btw the rotting corpses of your friends are on the right side of the island." Now, she didn seem more somber when Luffy brought them up, but perhaps it's similar to Conis in Skypiea where it's guilt over what she's doing rather than being hesitant to break the news.

I think mangastream has made a mistake.. Wanda doesn't say "We shall show no mercy" but "No mercy will be shown" talking about the guardians that would not show mercy to Luffy, as we see shortly after " I don't care Bepo! An intruder is an intruder"…
-
-
zou Wanda why? :ninja:
You make puns because zou wanda make people laugh :ninja:

Her face indicates that it's something serious… Plus she talked to Carrot about that.
-
Out of all the chapters I've read this one made no sense, probably because it was MangaPanda, still.
-
Pretty sure Wanda thinks they're dead because of Brook.
-
Wonder what kind of power would make SH look dead, since dog girl suggests their dead bodies are there. And if she knew them, likely she noticed the skeleton was alive before and fine, it's not his gag. Can mink make the difference between KO or unconscious and dead? They should be able to.
With kaidou's crew as a zoan theme crew, likely jack has some zoan, even more with the mammoth ship and flag. A soul stealing DF sounds wierd, and Brook awakening his DF is way too unlikely at this point. Even luffy didn't awaken his yet.
Is it confirmed that the dog girl is the same dog/fox girl we saw in chapter 795 with sanji and co? If yes, then she knows for sure Brook is alive skeleton, not dead.
-

Isn't his ability of controlling his soul an awakened form of his Devil Fruit ?

They don't look alike :
!

On that same token, perhaps it's just me, but Pedro looks to be a rather menacing figure.

Going based on the paramecia know awakening from DD, then the awakening seems about apply the DF on things around you, like transforming building into strings and such. I guess Brook would be about using it on other people?
(maybe that mink "absorbed" Nami)
You may be on something here. It's not just the clothes, but her body does look too similar with nami's body, it's like the same body. Even the same OO…
-
I think she probs run off during a straight encounter with sherphead and assumes the worst cos it's Jack's men.
That may explain how the SwirlyHats were looking for a girl after sorting out Sheepshead

We only have one example, which isn't enough to establish a golden rule saying that the awakening of paramecia's only apply on things around the user.
If Brook's new abilities aren't a form of awakening, then what is it ? -

Bleh! Not impressed.. if u can't take down Jack then your 'menacing' is whack!
-
Why couldn't Luffy sense the animals all around me? I mean, I like it better this way obviously (an adventure manga would be very crippled by "I know any living danger in this island before I even land") but… CoO seems very very useless from what we've seen so far.
It could be interesting if minkmen have a way to keep hidden even from observation haki users. It would be a great powerup if Luffy learns it.
-
Yoink. I get it, Law's men are all animals from the cold.

Bepo's a polar bear, Penguin, Sachi means Orca?, Law's spirit animal is a spotted seal….. what about Jean Bart though?
