@Shiebs:
What are your guys favorite Starter pokemon???
My top favorite is the Mudkip line. I loved the typing, it has a unique design, and was amazing to play through on Ruby for the first time.
Per gens, Charmander's line has become my favorite. It used to be a tie between Bulbasaur and Charmander, but I've become to Charizard after using it's X Mega in my normal OU team on Pokemon Showdown.
I….really don't like the Gen 2 starters. Cyndaquil is my go to, but I HATE the fact that they're all monotype, and really don't have anything unique to set them apart.
I actually really love all of the Gen 4 starters. I think my first run on Diamond was with Turtwig, but I've played through that and Platinum dozens of times with each of the starters. Love all of their designs and typing. Even Infernape, even if it was in the middle of the "fire/fighting" trifecta that overstayed it's welcome. Plus, part of it was because I loved Ash's infernape and it's story in the anime, which the Diamond and Pearl anime was the last I regularly watched.
Unova is my favorite region, though I'm not the biggest fan of the starters. I usually pick Oshwatt, and think he stands out enough in all of his evolved forms to say he's my favorite. Though my first run ever on black was with Tepig which I ditched once I was able to get a Darmanitan. At this point I was simply done with the Fire/fighting types. And while I don't like Snivy or most grass types, I appreciate it's design and can see why others would love it.
Gen 6 is weird. I hated X and Y. It highlighted a lot of the issues I've had with the franchise going forward. That absolutely played into my feelings with these starters. I believe I chose Froakie on my first play through of X. While I appreciated the inclusion of the Dark/Psy/Fighting triangle many had theorized they'd use for a group of starters, instead of the Fire/Water/Grass, it felt flat for me. Mainly because in these games....well you get handed EVERYTHING. You always got Pokemon as gifts in games but I mean
-Kalos Starter
-Kanto Starter w/ Mega Stone
-Luccario
And I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting. But the fact that they gave two starter Pokemon just made me lose any connection to my Kalos Starter.
And finally, for Alola, I honestly really liked all of their designs. While my first run on Moon was with a Litten, I played Ultra Moon with Popplio and fell in love with the little guy. The fact that Rowlett eventually lost it's Grass/Flying typing is what kept me from ever playing it. i wanted to! In the hype for Sun/Moon I was set on getting Rowlett. I always loved Tropius from Gen 3, but it sucked. So I thought this would be the redemption for that. Nope.
