I have to say this is the first long running manga that I followed from start to finish and it was among my favourites aswell. I'm sad, but to be honest, we've kinda expected this after how Jump made Shima rush to the end around Blue Grill. So I'm really looking forward to his next work, perhaps in a less stressful, less pressured evironment, where he can focus on his world building skills, because clearly, that was Shima's main selling point.
I can kinda see why Toriko didn't fit in the classical "Jump shonen" narrative, like for example no or very few women, and even they didn't show any sexy parts only very rarely, no romance, almost no flashbacks, no kids (like how Natsu, Ichigo, Naruto and Luffy were technically kids eg. under 18) that other kids can relate to. I think Toriko was meant to the 20-35 age group.
Toriko III: It's Over!!

I'm kind of sad for shima, compare how many people said goodbye to bleach, to how many did to toriko , only oda and sorachi. These youngns have No respect for the elderly.
Well Shima was arrested for violating child prostitution laws. I'm betting that played a major part.

I doubt that it would be "child" but "underaged". But while yeah, it migth impact, I doubt that oda would kept being friends with him if it really was a child victim. And like we know very little but they should know more details.

Just saying that baggage like that leaves an impact, and maybe Oda's understanding because they're friends but many people would just read the surface level news article headlines and judge based on that. So not at all surprised if the company and author's aren't paying "respects".
-
If the company weren't paying respects they wouldn't have boosted toriko the way that they did back during the ice hell arc. And while the authors would be apprehensive about it, they are close enough to the editors to know the full history, so either the full history is worse, or they didn't care enough to find out

Wait, really?
-
Wait, really?
That was before Toriko was published though. But his previous title was axed when that happened.

Wait, really?
He paid 80,000 yen to a sixteen-year-old for sex. He was twenty-seven years old at the time, which was 2001 (he was arrested in 2002).

Oh wow, almost 15 years ago.
-
On the other hand, we didn't have Oda saying goodbye to Bleach in any meaningful way and I'd say Oda's respect > rest of shonen Jump authors together
??? He said goodbye:
"Kubo-san, congratulations on 15 years of hard work on Bleach! Get some good rest.".
With Nisekoi that he didn't said anything.

Sorry, I meant doing some kind of homage, like the OP chapter cover page. But you're right, the rest of the authors didn't even leave a goodbye message for Shimabu at the end. That's a bit too harsh for an 8,5 years old manga…

I liked that page where it put scale to the attacks but it was so small so here's the deviantart page if anyone else is interested.

So long, Toriko. It was fun for a while.
Great work and thanks for all your hard work, Kewl.

:) Thanks for dropping by.
Where is Nekketsu? Did he drop this thread completely? I'd like to hear from him too.

Probably taking his own advice or just not trying to be a hypocrite given he seemed to realize how the series has fallen at some point, but always hated how people would just come into this thread to complain week after week.

Man, it does feel weird not having any other series to talk about absurdity on Thursdays.
-
I picked up Toriko when the show was just starting, maybe chapter 1. All in all I enjoyed it, rushed, sure, too much gourmet, I agree. I was not expecting anything more about a food that gave you shiny skin Komatsu coming back from New World with his little kick and chopping on the fly, I enjoyed that Matsu never became super strong like Toriko, although that transformation when air showed up was not fully explained, oh well. I am re-reading the show, on chapter 37: The Bishokukai and gourmet cells!

Any idea Whta Shima next work manga..

Yes, something more absurd and fabulous than Toriko.
I heard that he is gonna do a one shot by next year April, not sure though

Yes, Shima going to one shot on upcoming April in Saikyou Jump (not Shounen Jump).

This was such a fitting end to Toriko. The 2nd to last chapter gave us the emotional ending, and the final chapter gave us the open conclusion, more adventures await Toriko and company out into Space. Going to miss this series. I remember Toriko having the best chapters of the week during the Dressrosa saga of One Piece, constantly showing why it was great.
Infinitely better ending than Bleach and Naruto, thats for sure
Such a shame it got axed and rushed. You could tell Shima had so many more things he wanted to show.
Going to miss KOL going YOOOOOO 24/7 as well.
-
So no one posted the cover for Volume 42? Okay. Toriko ends with Volume 43 anyone who may be confused.
!
-
One-Shot by Shima, figured I would post it here.
http://readms.net/r/one_shot/Chingiri/4200/1
It's…something alright, lol.
-
I would be interested in reading a whole story out of this powerful technique. And MS should be chingiri'd with all the liberties they seem to have taken
-
This guy loves Hunter x Hunter a little bit too much. Jajajaja
-
Finally, we have a name for the martial art Hanayama Kaoru of Grappler Baki has been using all this time…
-
Lol…Between planet Namek and planet Vegeta.
-
Hey, he's given us very important information that Super doesn't give.
Namek is on one side of the universe and Vegeta is on another.
-
Something tells me the original japanese did not read 'Oh My Dear Jesus Holy Throbbing Fuck'. But that do I know Mangastream? What do i know!?
-
Tried to remember how this manga ended today. It was…difficult.
Man, what a strange this this was.
-
You're getting too cocky.
–-
Damn, I miss the madness. -
Respect Toriko, man.
It doesn't deserve to be harassed post-death, unlike Bleach.
-
any update on shima guys?
-
Only post toriko thing he's done is two oneshots. Nothing enough to get serialized i guess.
