I remember reading some SBS's for the first time and thought he was kind of mean to his audience and now I realize he is just a lot of fun and very humble. Well at least in what he allows us to see lol.

Editor Naito complained in a small voice via live streaming recently that the business style where
people can't get extra volumes (0, 333, 777 and 1000) unless they visit specific places (Tokyo Tower, theater) is kinda dirty."Live Attraction Phantom" script including spoiler
Anne has a Devil Fruit ability of creating phantoms. She asks Luffy if he wants to meet Ace again.
In the original script, Luffy fights with Ace and cries loudly with joy that he can meet him again.But Oda fixed the script: Luffy declines Anne's offer to meet Ace. Luffy feels "someone" is assisting him during the fight with an enemy.
Nami "What's up?"
Luffy "Was someone with me during the fight?"
Zoro "Nope."
Luffy "I felt as if my shoulder touched someone… But, whatever!!"In short, Luffy doesn't notice Ace in Oda's script. In his script, Ace shows up only after all casts left the stage.
He asks audience to take care of Luffy (same line with chapter 159) and the show finishes.

Barto looks like a rooster because of his haircut and colors. Robin drew atention to that by drawing a rooster.

I also love how Robin used hiragana to write her own name. If I'm not wrong, some Japanese girls do that because it looks cuter.

First ONE PIECE editor Takanori Asada talked about Oda and OP in TBS internet radio today. He was responsible for chapter 1-177 (middle of Alabasta arc). Here is my summary of the interview.

ONE PIECE was rejected by high-ups in Jump office 3 times before serialization. Prototype chapter 1 was just a story of Luffy saving a village, but Oda decided to focus on Luffy's backstory at the beginning.

Asada was frustrated with his bosses due to those rejections. He even had a dream at night that he beats up his bosses. One day, Asada kept asking one of his bosses in restaurants/bars from pm 9 to am 7 why they didn't understand the awesomeness of ONE PIECE.

Especially Kazuhiko Torishima, known as a legendary Dragon Ball editor, was doubtful about ONE PIECE would make a success. On the other hand, Sasaki (currently working in Viz) and Ibaraki claimed that ONE PIECE would become popular. Torishima made a famous comment in a TV show in 2015, "Manga that doesn't sell well is just a trash for editors." (source: TV show "Tanken Bakumon" May 20th, 2015)

When the serization was decided, Oda told Torishima, "If ONE PIECE becomes popular, be sure to admit defeat."

Soon after that, ONE PIECE made a huge success. Oda talked to Torishima again in new year's party and reminded him of the promise. Torishima said, "OK. You won, Oda! Are you satisfied?" Asada was glad to hear those words.

When ONE PIECE volume 1 was released, Oda and Asada were hiding in a bookshop. They were waiting for the first customer to buy the volume in the shop, wondering what kind of audience would buy it. They shouted for joy when they witnessed a boy around 12-15 years old bought volume 1.

Picolo is Toriyama's fav character of DB, i don't think he was based from Torishima.

Today Oda was awarded "Prefecture Honor Prize" by Kumamoto, his hometown. It is also decided that they will display Luffy's statue on the prefecture office. Oda's parents and some editors (Naito, Sugita, Onishi and Nakano) attended the ceremony on behalf of Oda. Here is my translation for Oda's message about the award.
Oda: When I moved from Kumamoto to Tokyo to become mangaka, I was so arrogant that I had no regret throwing away my hometown Kumamoto. This is because coming back to Kumamoto meant a defeat for me.
Honestly, I made a resolution to keep drawing manga and not attending funerals even if my parents die. I was lack of respect for my parents. I didn't know what it meant to make efforts. That being said, I don't regret it since those desperate period of times has made what I am today. It is natural for me to repay my parents and hometown. I am really concerned about the people who are suffering/suffered from the earthquake in Kumamoto. I'd like to keep supporting them as best as I can.
I am sorry for not being able to attend the ceremony today. I am really honored to receive this award.

By the way, apparently, Oda bought this school bus as a gift to an elementary school in Mashiki town, which was heavily damaged due to the earthquake. Students made appreciation messages to Oda. Editor promised he will deliver the messages to Oda.One of the students wrote, "I love the Straw Hats drawings on this school bus. Thank you so much for giving us this bus! Now I can enjoy going to school by bus. I feel safe since it provides us with seat belts which were not equipped in the previous bus. We'll surely cherish this bus."

Edward Weevil appeared in a newspaper in chapter 903. Here is a funny talk between Oda and editor Sugita about Weevil which was revealed in "Grand Talk Show" on August 23rd, 2017.
Oda said, "A super-cool character will appear soon."
Editor Sugita replied, "Wow, really!? Audience will be glad about it!"Then, Oda sent the design of Weevil to Sugita.
Sugita thought, "Whaaat!? Does he seriously believe this character is cool? If I tell him that Weevil isn't cool, will Oda-san get angry..?"Editor is usually supposed to make a phone call to Oda soon after he receives manuscripts, but this time Sugita didn't know what to make a comment for 5 minutes…
Afterward, Oda explained to Sugita about what Weevil will do in the future.
Oda: Weevil is cool for me in that sense.Sugita was finally convinced to hear that.
