What use is it having Darth on ignore if you can't help but to stumble upon his posts anyway because everyone keeps replying to them?
Chapter 763: Human Declaration
-

You can actually see Corazon in the panel where Law says the D is a secret and the Wartel/Water is from his mother.
Juuuuuuust behind the wall.
Squint. -
Ho-leee shit.
That's the best chapter I read in a while. It's great to see Dofla pirates' path. Oda has done an awesome job without wasting too much time. You see them in different situations, acting like themselves, without so much as a text bubble. Less is more.
Also, Dofla's ship looks really fabulous. Also, never expected D would just pop out in a casual conversation like that. Did not see that coming.
This means anyone can be a D!
I remember saying a while ago. "Law isnt a D. Its trafalgar Law".
Eustass D Kid is the next one.
Calling it! Sabo for D! The chances have increased so i can say it comfortably!
-
I opened up the last page and tthere were 10 replys by you. I was like holy..
My record, if I recall correctly, was having one in every six posts in the entire chapter thread.
Or was it one in five? I can't remember…

Well there was bound to be another D sooner or later. Oda could have done worse than Law. Tenacious motherfucker, even after all that beating. Suddenly it makes a little more sense.

I thought I read in this thread somewhere that Darth said he's leaving this part of the forum?
Did he make a comeback already lol -
I thought I read in this thread somewhere that Darth said he's leaving this part of the forum?
Did he make a comeback already lolIt's because you guys are indecisive. When I post, you are like "Just leave already". When I will finally leave, everyone's like "Don't, your opinions are interesting".
It's like the entire board is one giant Tsundere. :ninja:
-
I liked this chapter but now I'm going to be stuck on wondering about D again… :getlost:
-
So Dofla gonna be some kind of tragic villain, showing how World Nobles system is rotten to the core and give us some inner perspective that you can't go away from them, even if you really want to.

Just quoting this one to save myself going back a few pages.
I think what justifies Homing's delay (which I believe is your main concern with his actions) until Doflamingo turned 8 was that he probably hoped he and his wife could raise their children to not behave like your typical Celestial Dragon. So he stayed in the good life, until he noticed Doffy was turning into a despicable CD (probably due to the influence of other Celestials). It's very hard to put your child on the proper path when the seemingly vast majority of people in your society disagrees with it. Especially a society that labels you a traitor for simply deciding to leave.
The wealth they left with seems to be quite a bit, probably more than enough to get Homing the time to learn to work (if he would even need to, that was a sizable size of gold in a where even a small pile is probably cherished).
Also, he seems to have been deliberately screwed by the Gov't in the location of his home. The escort takes him to the island and the escort then says "Oh there's nothing inconvenient about it." Deliberately leaving out the fact that this island is home to people that have been preyed upon by the Celestial Dragons for centuries. It'd be different if they had instead taken Homing's family say to Luffy's hometown in East Blue, where the notion of a Celestial Dragon didn't even cross their minds in the humble town (as even in the city a CD coming was super rare).
I think he was deliberately put into a bad location by the "Escort" whether that's other CD's or Gov't I don't know. He can't have predicted that the people escorting him would purposely put him on an island full of people prepared to kill him.
You're perfectly justified in disliking him, but I think his actions were understandable and by no means idiotic.
(And don't go, I enjoy our debates thoroughly, I hope you enjoy them to at least some extent.)
-
Who else? his father was obviously a naive idiot who brought his whole family to ruins.
I was thinking the same! what a terrible father, I almost feel realy bad for Dofla
-
Oda's been really trying to get at the One Piece children now hmm. We gave him an inch in Punk Hazard when the children were poisioned, but they were giants so it took off some of the controversy, but now he's murdering them left and right. Great to see that the Celestial Dragons were as vile back in the day as they ever will be.
-
Wow, this flashback has a lot of dark elements to it. This arc so far, has been really entertaining with; back stories, characters, and action. I can't wait to see how the action aspects of it unfold.
-
In the Japanese, when Dofy is experiencing pain and hunger for the first time he uses 生まれ始めて… in the two panels. I can't read that without thinking it's parodying the Japanese version of Frozen.
Also, Swellington.
-
Swellington.
I think it's actually Wellington. The "S", or what looks like one, is actually a fancy bracket they put in front of the names with a similar "S' shaped bracket at the end.
-
Homing wasn't a bad/evil person, I wouldn't kill my father if it was like Homing.
Doula is still the black sheep in the family.
-
am I the only one who thinks "Watel Law" seems inspired by Waterloo, the city where Napoleone was defeated?
-
Now THAT'Sa dumb Tenryuubito. I mean, kudos to him for feeling like a normal human, but he should have known just how much sorrow his kind brought upon the general populace.
Great flashback! And damn, Law's a D.!!!
-
People complaining about Doffy's dad would probably love to be a slave-owning Tenryuubito with a lot of wealth spitting peasants and never having to justify their own intelligence or status.
-
am I the only one who thinks "Watel Law" seems inspired by Waterloo, the city where Napoleone was defeated?
Probably. Trafalgar, Waterloo. Makes sense.
-
Dofla's fear from the D reminds me Frieza and Super Sayajin. I guess Dofla also wanted to exterminate all D, fearing that they could be great ennemies for him later…
So far the only thing uselful we know about Ds is that they die smiling. If Dofla finally kills Vege... err Law, I think it will be the first and last time we see him with a smile on his face :ninja: -
You can actually see Corazon in the panel where Law says the D is a secret and the Wartel/Water is from his mother.
Juuuuuuust behind the wall.
Squint.OMG is this for real? Anyone nice enough to crop it and put it here?
@Darth : well, consider most of us Sanji and you are Zoro or something similar to that. Always fighting when the other is nearby, but keep buddy-buddy at heart XD
-
So finally it's official law is actually a decendant of the D family.
he has that smile after all doesn't he?more importantly, why corazon have told law to get away from doflamingo? it absolutly have something to do with the fact that law is a D and that doflamingo is a former celestial dragon. that makes me wonder if cora said that to law because he cares for law, and that he fear that dofla is gonna hurt just because of the D situation? or that cora cares for his brother, and somehow, he doesn't want a D decendant to be close to his brother?
Ah, it did not surprise me at all seeing that cora is able to talk.
-
Here's my prediction to how things will go now:
Doffy gets his hands on the Ope Ope no Mi, Corazón knowing what Doffy intends to do with it wants get rid of the fruit, so he steals it and give to Law (Law probably managed to cure himself with the fruit alone without needing the Ageless Surgeon or whatever the hell it's called). Vergo finds out about Law eating the fruit then proceed to beat his ass. Cora saves Law from Vergo and in the end Doffy out rage kills his brother. Law manages to escape during the confusion.
-
Now THAT'Sa dumb Tenryuubito. I mean, kudos to him for feeling like a normal human, but he should have known just how much sorrow his kind brought upon the general populace.
Great flashback! And damn, Law's a D.!!!
maybe he should've snuck over to albasta. the royal family would've probably taken them in b/c they understand their plight somehwat.
-
Everyone already knows that Rocinante was Don Quixote's horse, but in case nobody has mentioned yet, it also means "illiterate or rough man". Corazon isn't illiterate but it might also be a double reference to both the horse and his speechlessness (well, until this chapter at least).
-
So Doffy inherited his droopy eyes from both his parents, those eyelashes look like his mom's.. pretty funny if you consider the shape of his sunglasses.
Though, there's a possibility his eyes are different now since his eyebrows are always lowered.
I do wonder what else happened after the 3 of them were tied up – it's unlikely they got down from there on their own.
As for the 'D', it makes sense since Law's mentioned that twice now - though whether he's basing it on himself, Luffy or someone else in these context would be the mystery.[hide][/hide]
But damn, Oda just triggered another Law death flag didn't he? First being the Ageless Operation.
Oh and since we know a bit of Doffy's past now, by juxtaposition, theories are becoming clear if there is indeed a new SH joining this arc.
-
Don's father aside, I'm more interested in Corazon now. Donflamingo bought attention to his family, bringing their ruin, and killed his father as a result of it. It seems pretty obvious why Corazon would hold a grudge against his brother, and I'm assuming that he's been playing the angles waiting for revenge. Why else would he lie about being a mute? I love how despite this sad backstory, Donflamino doesn't come out innocent as a result of it. This is a tradegy where everyone is responsible for their downfall, with the exception being Corazon. I like Corazon now, he's clearly the brother that inherited his fathers conscience (and I'll jokingly assume that Donflamingo inherited that naivety, because after enough suffering naivety becomes cynicism).
-
People complaining about Doffy's dad would probably love to be a slave-owning Tenryuubito with a lot of wealth spitting peasants and never having to justify their own intelligence or status.
Hmph. I do admit that I am not above wanting millions of dollars to dedicate my life to studying philosophy and writing novels, neither of which pays very well. Slaves are optional though.
Still doesn't change the fact that he was a dummy.
-
Can someone tell me how does family name change after marriage works? Cause most of the case I know, the Husband's name turns into the general family name. Or in Japan, things are different?
-
Wait, I forgot about his wife. So that makes TWO Celestial Dragons with working concience despite their surroundings.
Why did they need to leave again?
-
am I the only one who thinks "Watel Law" seems inspired by Waterloo, the city where Napoleone was defeated?
its Water Law and no, a lot of peopel said it already read the thread.
-
Everyone already knows that Rocinante was Don Quixote's horse, but in case nobody has mentioned yet, it also means "illiterate or rough man". Corazon isn't illiterate but it might also be a double reference to both the horse and his speechlessness (well, until this chapter at least).
I see it as a reference to his falling down. As rough can be opposite of graceful.
And graceful he is not, Corazon is always falling down and having a rough landing on his back.:happy:but seriously, you likely hit it on the nail with his speechlessness, many people perceive a mute person as illiterate and dumb, even if its not true
-
Dofla's dad may have been naive and unprepared but he is something that I really wanted from some time, a decent celestial dragon and he was wiling to crawl back to Mariejois if it mean the safety of his sons.
Also he gave the best moment of the chapter for me (without counting the Dofla pirates hijinks) and he made while being totally unintentional and oblivious.
Just the thought that "maybe we are all humans and equals" made the shitheads who thinks themselves as gods almost foaming from their mouths and rapidly accuse of him of traitor and all that just because of a simple desire and word.
So yeah I'm in the same boat that thinks they put them on place that has suffer atrocities from the celestial dragons so that him all his family could die in a horrible way just because he thinks like a human being.
(It also didn't help that kid Dofla couldn't keep is mouth shut). -
I noticed that in the manga when law talked about the will of D in front of doflamingo , we didn't see any kind of reaction from doflamingo towards this
but in the anime they showed him seriously angry to the point that we see his face veins , heavily implying that there's a story behind thatI get the impression that the anime studio knows about certain events that are yet to happen in the manga but have relevance to what's happening now , as if oda keeps notifying them in advance so that they could throw some hints here and there
-
Law has Water in his name. This is cool for some reason.
-
I like the reveal for Law and I'm hoping the rest of the flashback finally reveals the meaning behind D. We've waited long enough. Oh, and Corazon's antics in the panels were great moments of levity in an overall dark story.
Now I'm curious and in need of asking: Am I the only one who disliked Doffy's dad for what he has done?
I like that he was able to think differently than the other Celestial Dragons but I dislike that he put his family in danger because he didn't fully think things through.
Wait waaait guys. I think we're missing something….
The real question is how tf did they survive that crucification?? I mean they said let them live but I mean...it looked like game over right there. GGWP
There's no mystery there. They simply took it as far as they could without killing them because they wanted the torture to continue.
@.access:
That his popularity comes regardless of his relevance is obvious, he is a fan favorite since he first appeared and we knew nothing of him. He simply looked and acted cool, and that was enough for most to love him.
Agreed!
Darth asked a good question that was highly relevant to the chapter, which he explicitly stated he liked. Good discussion is flowing on both sides and its not like nobody agrees with him to some extent either. How is that a problem?
If you don't want to argue with Darth then stop engaging him. If you don't want to read his posts, then don't. Yes, you have a choice. If you are going to engage, then at least don't crumble and fall back on vitriol when your have you views challenged.
-
See, here's a thing: We were never explicitly told that Celestial Dragons need to do bad stuff.
Do they need to have slaves? Can they not donate money to charity, or created things beneficial to the populace? They are "Gods". Surely "Gods" don't have such limitations placed upon themselfs?
See, the way I think about it: Why couldn't the guy use his immense power, ifluence and wealth to do some good in the world, instead of going on whimsical soul-searching trip with his entire family?
that's blood money. that power was stolen. he did the right thing trying to give his family a better life, and with clean hands. he can't help if his children were already indoctrinated. also, they were just children. also, he doesn't blame doflamingo for blabbing either. why this irritates you is somewhere inside your own beliefs. why half the things that bother you about one piece that you post about non-stop are really for you to figure out and probably not necessary to discuss in endless detail for what seems like the mere sake of your own entertainment. we aren't your psychiatrists. the only thing i can see people wanting to complain about one piece are a) not getting/seeing what they wanted/expected b) sexism. the sexism argument is very flimsy and superficial (ironic) anyway though, people just love to complain though. like it's all some of you do.
do you really need to ask if other people want to gripe with you about a dead character's actions and why you think they sucked so much? i mean i guess obviously you do, i don't know why, and i don't know why it's such a point of contention, but you did.
also i don't think doflamingo's dad was naive (or that "soul-searching" is the appropriate term to use. it's really not at all that), i think what he did took deep integrity and cajones, wanting to raise his family in the real world, and give them a life in reality, not "above" it. essentially the same as biting the apple and being cast out of "heaven", to live a free life and honed character, for his self and the rest of his lineage. him calling marijeoas is all he could do, as i'm sure the local police or law enforcement wanted him dead as well, and he's just a citizen to the navy, who may not have jurisdiction in the situation at that point, or couldn't be reached.
also that dendenmushi looks kinda like "garosei 3" http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Gorosei
and no, the celestial dragons wouldn't relenquish an iota of their power for charity or making the world a better place, that's not what they do, and they certainly wouldn't let someone going rogue do that either. they watched this entire event unfold from afar, i'm sure. being a self proclaimed god above man is inherently a bad thing, and they do bad things. doflamingo's dad did the only thing he could. to give him grief for it is such a below the belt couch critic thing to do. that's like saying, "man, look at all the stupid dead people and their stupid dead families that died in the revolutionary war fighting the british. they should have just stayed home and asked for money to build a better country somewhere else, but where we don't listen to the absolute law of the crown, cause they would be cool with that, jeez. who's with me?"
except they aren't gods, not even gods with quotations, they are just normal people who happen to have consolidated (stolen) power from the world and now write history with it. stripping themselves away from all of that, again, was the best, and only thing they could have done. even if we find out the CD's do have some special bloodline that is unique, and possibly from "somewhere" else entirely, that still gives them no right to kill or treat others or consider fishmen an even inferior race. i'm very interested to see the kingdom summit coming up and to see how that operates, and who oversees the motions.
going to live in the real world, i think, was the right thing to do. if he had told anyone ahead of time, like when he was moving in, "hi, i'm your new neighbor, i used to be a celestial dragon. my family and i just moved here from mariejoa that's our house, the giant castle museum thing that takes up most of the view around here. blah blah blah". no. the idea was to just start over, leave the past behind. i'm sure he did prepare his children to act properly in their new home, but doflamingo was just a kid, who grew up in a nuthouse with insane expectations of the world. neither of them can be blamed.
-
Can someone tell me how does family name change after marriage works? Cause most of the case I know, the Husband's name turns into the general family name. Or in Japan, things are different?
If the couple wants they use both names
-
Probably the one calling Doula thru Den Den is Vergo, to let him know he found the Ope Ope.
-

I have the impression that the anime just make up things to fill up the time slot as they go. like the time monet was about to sacrifice herself the anime showed doflamingo smiling as opposed to the manga.
they obviously probably do get tips from oda here and there, but i am skeptical.
EDIT

(It also didn't help that kid Dofla couldn't keep is mouth shut).Oda's "spiritual" view becomes even clearer with this page. He's removing superficial ideologies and replacing them with the clear truth… that everybody is the same in essence (human, born and die) no matter how "great" they become (which our world today struggles to understand as the jelousy driven rat race continues). Luffy remains the example of true living... freedom. The world nobles exist like the British royal family do today, through bloodline (which to me is ridiculous, nobody should be born great it's what they do that determines it). The Gorosei are like the private bankers who control the economic BALANCE of the world. This arc will have huge development to the main plot especially now we know Law is a D. I think Law's mother may have a role to play (whether dead or alive) because of the mention of her name. People always wanted to know Luffy's mother... maybe Law is Luffy's real brother.

In the manga as soon as Law mentioned the D storm the scene changed and the next thing we know Law is getting his face holed by lead bullets. Looks like they were both trying to put salt in the other's wound.

@$abZ:
People always wanted to know Luffy's mother… maybe Law is Luffy's real brother.
Unless Law's mother somehow had a secret affair with Dragon in the East Blue, that's not possible.

That was one of many fuck ups by the studio yeah , but the way they did this doesn't strike me as mere coincidence
In the manga as soon as Law mentioned the D storm the scene changed and the next thing we know Law is getting his face holed by lead bullets. Looks like they were both trying to put salt in the other's wound.
sounds right , i guess the way they overdid his anger reaction is what gives me the impression that they knew something
-
Unless Law's mother somehow had a secret affair with Dragon in the East Blue, that's not possible.
Yeah it's a shot in the dark. I wonder if Oda will feel the need to reveal Luffy's mother. I expect Luffy's mother to be a D if she is revealed. I'm just wondering why Oda dropped the name of Law's mother… he rarely does things for no reason.
