Another nostalgia show ? Good.
I wonder if we can see all the past protagonists together this time, or is this impossible ?
Because I think that the digimon´s timeline is kinda complex.

2. BelialVandemon falling because of the power of friendship… literally.
It was doing well till that part, but then that happened and left the viewers a bitter taste.
I remember that part, Myotismon exploded from the cutesy speeches of children. They literally SUGAR-TALKED him to death. It was both hilarious and depressingly sad.
But forget about that chump, there's another villain far more deserving of an encore comeback.
Let's bring back Puppetmon!
Oh nice! It's always cool to see a good series getting a reboot. Come to think about it, adventures always had that optimism around it without going overboard on it. I definitely enjoyed it back then, but tamers seemed to age much better given its variety of characters and personalities that they have.
I haven't really seen too much of season 1, but the second part where all the 4 demon kings just let themselves be wiped off bit-by-bit was anticlimatic. If anything i sort of hope that they'll make it so that the kings at least made an effort to stop the trainers together or something
Yeahh…I tolerated 2 only because they aged the first cast. I still hated TK though and the Tai of that group. And Ken sucked. Also it was super weird with the ending stuff. Matt/Yamato went to Mars? Why didn't he finish being a rock star?
Because of two details.
1. Demon's plot forgotten forever.
2. BelialVandemon falling because of the power of friendship… literally.
It was doing well till that part, but then that happened and left the viewers a bitter taste.
It fell apart long before that. Really the entire second half of the show was just a cluttered mess of poorly executed ideas and ridiculous retcons. I particularly remember, even as a kid, not buying that explanation that "We can't evolve to Perfect Level anymore because we had to give up our Crests to generate a shield around the Digital World to fix the distortions in the world"… Their Crests were destroyed by Apocalymon in the ending to Adventure. Then they found that they could still evolve without them because they still had the qualities that enabled the Crests to work in the first place. So the idea of them somehow losing that power makes no sense, that is, unless say… Taichi turned into the biggest wimp ever, Yamato became a sociopath who hates everyone and everyone hates him in return, Takeru became the ultimate pessimist and so forth...
Oh and the BlackWarGreymon arc. For as much as people rag on Frontier for the admittedly really bad Royal Knights arc, BlackWarGreymon's arc was, for all intents and purposes, the exact same thing. "Oh noes, the villain is after these McGuffins and if he destroys them all the world is doomed! Let's go stop him from destroying the latest one! … Darn, he destroyed the latest one! Well let's try harder next time!" Except whereas Frontier's obnoxious string of failures ultimately resulted in the kids facing off against Satan voiced by Freeza in outer space, the BlackWarGreymon-arc culminated in... one massive infodump and all the McGuffins being restored at the last second so all was well.
I heard a really great explanation for the Dagomon thing but I dont remember it off hand. It was pretty fucked up when you realize the creatures arent actual digimon and wanted to "make kari their bride", so it's like they accidentally jumped into some different reality (a sort of hp lovecraft world i guess) parallel to the digital one and the real world. considering that Ryo was in 02 and Tamers, I assumed that Tamers existed in the same group of parallel worlds as Adventure
I think the latest season of Digimon confirmed that, or at least heavily supported that theory.
I didn't watch the season myself, but I do remember reading summaries of Digimon Fusion and it brought characters from the previous five Digimon series into the show.
Man I need to rewatch Digimon! I only watched the first two seasons and part of Season 3 (Tamers, I guess?) I remember really loving the first season when it came on. Heck I even remember how my best friend and I watched the very first episode together to check out this new series that everyone thought kinda seemed like a Pokemon ripoff ( I know Digimon came before Pokemon, but since it came on T.V. here after Pokemon was already established and super popular…) So, do the Seasons all the play in the same universe, actually? When Season 3 started and was really different, I just guessed that it had nothing to do with former seasons expect featuring Digimon in it.
Just wanna say that BanchoLeomon makes DataSquad worth watching.

i will explain!
the dark ocean and Ken's backstory like… PLAGUED ME for SUCH a long time, even though they kind of explained it in the show barely. this was like 13 years ago? so i had to dig around random japanese fansites to kind of fill the holes. what they dont tell you is that that there's a bunch of wonderswan games that are also linked to the tv show. So the link between Adventure and 02 is obvious because the same characters, but inbetween the two seasons D1 tamers happened, featuring Tai, Ken, and Ryo
!
I think that in the Tamers universe, digimon was some kind of popular phenomenon/tv show. Considering that Oikawa and that other nerd managed to sort of tap into the digital world, it can be assumed that the tamers universe took inspiration from events/characters from the Adventures Earth and the Digital world
i never watched the other series (besides frontier) after that so i cant say but here's the final battle of xross that basically proves that everything is kind of linked
im a huge nerd about this series. im sorry
Finally, another Digimon anime.
If only Digimon Tamers was every season.
I had the digimon toys and cards and stuff, and I distinctly remember, after watching the first episode of season 3, trying to see if they worked and would get me a digimon.
I was already a few years too old to actually believe anything like that, but I sheepishly tried anyway, hoping more than I'd like to admit that they'd work.
Dropped the franchise when my station started running endless repeats during season 4, not a clue what it's been up to since then. But I'm definitely going to check this thing out.
Lots of people say they liked Tamers but I didn't really like it tbh
It didnt have as much charm as the original ones did and I thought the bad guys were kind of dull (impmon not included)
I liked that Ryo was in it though, which kind of bridged 02 and Tamers together a little. I always thought he'd be good as a main character
I might need to try watching it one more time, but during my Freshmen year of College, I watched the first 4 seasons again, and felt season 3 was the weakest. I felt the character development stuff was rushed, I thought that the thing with Terry could've been done much better (those 2 kids really screwed up not keeping watch on her, and in general just felt really forced), and the one Digimon that was trying to rid of them was suddenly conviced after Takato jumped down and fused for some reason. Also, the whole Blue Card thing was really dumb, and the card use was minimal and could've been done better. I actually really liked 02, despite the flaws, because the first half was really good, and the second half, while a bit crazy, was still interesting.
I may be in the minority here, but I really liked Frontier the best despite the premise on transforming into Digimon. I hated Tamers because it mostly felt really mellow and dark. And the final enemy boiling down to big red blobs swelling all over a city was bleh. The character designs were really cool tho. I just wanted more Digital World, and Frontier gave me that and much more.
Season 1 and 2 I don't have much memories with. The only thing I can recall is the constant repeating of stock animation for attacks, and something with BlackwarGreymon running around for numerous episodes.
Frontier was really good, and I feel it did the darker moments much better than Tamers, the only thing I would argue is the stuff near the end was weird. Especially the whole "With all the powers combined it's not strong enough, but if each individual one comes and attacks at once it's effective." I think Tamers starting in the Human world was a good thing to do, but a lot of stuff just didn't work.

That's when I stopped as well, and it was when it went to a new channel and I was waiting for the school bus during the time. Once I was able to watch the whole thing through, I thought it was quite good. A number of people seemed to have problems with the fact the people turned into Digimon, because some of them were shallow like that (talking about the friends I know), and there were probably other reasons for other people.
yeah, it's funny the reason you "drop" a show as a kid. I didn't grow out of it, or think it got stupid, it was just that I got frustrated with my TV station. At least three times they'd just suddenly start over from episode 1, and I got really sick of it. That one episode where the main dude gets turned into a digimon and has to watch the events of the first episode really was a trip, because I was about to turn it off thinking they'd restarted again, then saw different things happening and was really confused.
Haha I remember randomly seeing ABC 13 playing digimon one morning a few years or something after it had been bought by Disney, and turning it on and being like WHOA IT'S SEASON 4 AND IT'S NOT LIKE TAMERS and it was the weirdest thing to watch like an hour before my parents made me go to church
Never got to see the whole thing till a few years later because they moved it up like 30 minutes and I had to be gone by then
Is there a good place to watch seasons 4 and up? I don't recall seeing them on crunchy roll.

Man. That brings me back. Me and my sis followed that show religiously, but… The thing was. They kept going back to episode one when the story was getting good. Like every damned time.
I might end up rewatching Frontier seeing as the reruns made it hard for us to follow every episode in order.
If they don't erase the bullshit ending to 02, this sequel is going to be really fucking stupid.
Hey! Rub the digiegg for details! If the meter is completely down, new info will be revealed.
It's a sequel that takes place 2-3 years after the events of 02, nothing wrong with that.

The thing is the ending went far past that and it had some pretty stupid things. The question is whether they'll retcon it or whether they'll end up developing the cast to match that of the epilouge. The former would be the better, imo.

There are no official subs for them, so you'd have to settle for fansubs. Incidentally I'd recommend Positron-LS for Frontier (because 1: I worked on that one and 2: the alternative is WPP. WPP's sub of Digimon Frontier is literally the worst fansub ever) and RyuuRogue for Savers (because it's basically the only option. I mean there's also DATS but they're basically the same thing, except RyuuRogue's version is better edited and uses DVD-rips rather than TV-recordings).
Digimon 01 is THE BEST DIGIMON EVER!!! 02 was not as good because I REALLY REALLY HATE DAISUKE!!! 1) Being a total rip off of Tai 2) Being a whiny kid 3) Get in the way of Takeru X Hikari
Digimon Tamers was great as well!!
I also loved Digimon Xros Wars! Not the sequel!!! In the sequel the same thing happened!! the main dude (forgot his name) is a totally ripped off of Taiki and the fact even his digimon is a total fanboy of Shoutmon also rubbed me in the wrong way too!
GOD!! I REALLY HOPE THIS DIGIMON SEASON is good!!
can't. fuckin. wait.
MIMI <3<3<3<3<3<3
Digimon Adventure is like one of my series I rewatch at least once every 2 years.
The end of Adventure 02 is actually the movie "Diablomon strikes back!" it takes place after 2 ended and even shows Yamato and Sora dating.
Anyways, Adventure is definitely the best (and the first two movies are amazing) but I like Frontier a lot and it has the best songs in the series (I LOVE Wada Kouji)
I absolutely loved Digimon as a kid and I happen to think a rewamp with the technological improvements of recent years and the power of hindsight could have me thoroughly enjoy it. I haven't watched any season after the second and from what I understand, they didn't really stay commited to the concept afterwards. Needless to say, the ending of the second season was not nearly as climactic as the first season and I hated that stupid ''this is what happened afterwards'' at the end. I just pretended that shit never happened. Also, am I the only one who noticed the crazy similarity between the ending of that season and where we are standing currently in Naruto? You know, with all the ''people entering their dreamworld but living in a delusional bliss is bad because of reasons''? I totally think Kishimoto jacked that from Digimon.

Tamers has a…mostly depressing ending while Frontier has an almost depressing ending. You should watch them.

In english I guess that's Davis? He was fucking awesome. Definetly one of the best characterized kid's show characters I've ever seen.

You just sparked my interest. Challenge accepted.
I'm kind of surprised by all the Tamers dislike and the love for Frontier going around.
I started watching Digimon around the tail end of Adventure, then caught up and eventually started religiously following around the middle of Season 2. I think I watched one episode of Tamers, then didn't watch again till I saw Frontier on Disney one day a few years later, then finished that series before catching Tamers right at the end of the Beelzemon fight.
Having seen Tamers last of the first four seasons, and rewatching it very recently, it really comes together for me as the strongest season overall. My biggest compliment for Tamers is how it actually incorporates the Digimon into the main cast as well. Especially back in Adventure, the show was about seven kids and their pet Digimon. Sure, the Digimon had personality, but they never really interacted with the rest of the cast like Guilmon and Renamon do. In Tamers, it starts with three kids and five Digimon, and the Digimon are just as much characters as the kids.
Admittedly, some of the storytelling aspects don't come together very well (Rika and Renamon are suddenly fighting! Henry doesn't want Terriermon to digivolve!) but ultimately, I feel it succeeds by making the Digimon really feel like characters as well.
Frontier on the other hand, I really WANT to like. It definitely has one of the best, if not THE best Digital Worlds, I'm a sucker for Elemental stuff, and I thought the concept itself was cool. My biggest gripe with Frontier is how DULL everyone is. I think Zoe, Tommy, and JP were basically all the same character in the end, and Takuya and Koji weren't even close to strong enough leads to maintain their status. Plus I think it's episode 19 where the show gives out the last evolution to the less important kids and then Takuya and Koji do everything forever, further pushing Zoe, Tommy, and JP into the background.
I think Tamers are two diametric takes on Digimon that kind of end up doing totally diametric things. Tamers emphasizes the characters and plot, though doesn't really do much with its setting or concepts (though Card Slash is cool). Frontier sets up a really strong setting and concept, but drops the ball character and plot wise.
If I had to rank the seasons I'd say: Tamers > Adventure > Savers > Frontier > 02. I've never seen Xros Wars, and don't really want to, and my opinion on Savers changes daily, but even 02 has a lot to love about it (ARMOR DIGIVOLUTION), so I'm not saying "Ugh, Frontier and 02 are bad."
The end of Adventure 02 is actually the movie "Diablomon strikes back!" it takes place after 2 ended and even shows Yamato and Sora dating.

Lol. I remember being really surprised by Yamato and Sora dating.

You are probably going to have to watch Frontier in Japanese to appreciate it. I watched (I believe) most of Frontier before a single episode was in English and it just grated on me. The interesting thing to me about Frontier is that nobody really liked each other in the begging and that they all had their own problems going on in their lives (more reminiscent of Adventure but mor prominent). The whole beginning them asking them if they wanted to play a game that will change their lives….chilling. I really liked the focus on the humans as opposed to random Digimon that the previous series had been doing (and the celestials....I like them a lot). The whole argument about Human Digimon vs Beast Digimon is very intriguing and the ending....pretty powerful stuff.
Kouji's character became very intriguing halfway through the series which allowed him the most character development out of the whole cast.
Digimon Adventure is like one of my series I rewatch at least once every 2 years.
Yup, it was one of my childhood favorites when I was a little tyke growing up in the late 90's.
Ah, Nostalgia~~
oh man the big four
i went through a phase where i hated digimon for being a 'pokemon ripoff' but even before i started liking the series, i thought the bad guys of 01 (when i tuned in on occation) had fucking awesome and creepy designs
02 is the season that hooked me for good. i tuned in one day and happened to watch the fall of the digimon emperor and the bit with ken and wormmon there at the end and i was super interested in seeing what happened next. i have a weakness for bad guys who are really conflicted
also the digimon kaiser was fucking hilarious to root for in the English dub when i was still hating on the show. he's very flamboyant and team rocket-esque and i love it. also Paku Romi! Derek Stephen Prince! I love them!

I hope one of the bad guys will be a member of the Seven Great Demon Lords. The only member who hasn't made an appearance yet is Barbamon. Personally I'd like to see Demon's return, this time without his cloak.

The best episode in that whole season was Ep. 23 (Ken's past). Honestly, he was the best character in 02 and the other three new ones were basically just there (well, until the end with Iori). It just upset me that Stingmon never evolved.

The only thing that was missing was Raidramon electrifying him into the sky. Would maybe have rendered him less threatening, but I sorta missed Skeletorish villains in Digimon.
@taboo full agreement. I love the villains in the first Season. They were all just mad eof pure awesomeness. God, you guys reawakened my Digimon love! I`m not just going to reawtch the first three seasons, I am going to watch all of them, to see for myself which ones are good. Also, I forgot to say this the last time I posted in here…

This! Yes! Puppetmon was the best!!
This! Yes! Puppetmon was the best!!
Well….if you watch hem in Japanese, Puppetmon's name is Pinocchimon....just saying...
Well….if you watch him in Japanese, Puppetmon's name is Pinocchimon....just saying...
Silence! Puppetmon will always be Puppetmon….In our Hearts!!
I forgot a lot about Digimon, watched it when I was very young, that kind of young were it's mostly just some vague foggy memory, but holy shit Puppetmon definitively stuck with me
even as a kid I was…downright impressed that they had the balls to include a character this deranged and psychopathic
didn't he kidnap children and kill his minions at the drop of a hat basically because 'it was fun'
man, just looking at it makes me kinda uncomfortable
and of course there's always Etemon, which will never by forgotten just by virtue of being a monkey rockstar persiflage
I remember it was so funny /Terryfying that Puppetmon decided to in the end use a fuckin gun against T.K. instead of his hammer.

Aww, thanks for the Puppetmon love! Dark Masters were the best Digimon villains~
I remember it was so funny /Terryfying that Puppetmon decided to in the end use a fuckin gun against T.K. instead of his hammer.
That was the Japanese version, the gun was removed in the American 4Kids version.
I'd say that Digimon Adventure was undeniably the best of all the Digimon series, and not just Puppetmon, but all of the Dark Masters were incredibly memorable villains and fun to watch.
Omg omg I haven't seen the original Digimon in soooooo long. Memoriesssss~
The Dark Masters were basically Piedmon featuring Puppetmon. The others got like 5 minutes of screentime.
Zudomon was my favourite Digimon :) I mean…. HUGE FRIGGN HAMMER!
He's like a cross between a massive Ninja Turtle, Squirtle, and THOR.
Lilymon and Mimi all the way <3<3<3<3<3
But Sora was cool, too! And Tai. And Izzy. And Matt.
Booh Joe and T.K.

But Angewomon was fuckin awesome as well.
God damn, I'm such a girly girl, lol.
Damn, while watching the first season again, I also looked at some edits from the U.S. version because I wasn`t sure anymore if these were carried over to the German version, and man, all that crappy "funny" dialogue in the U.S. version is really killing the mood and the point of a lot of those episodes. Luckily, the German dub seems to be really faithful to the original.

Zudomon was my favourite, too. Along with Etemon, of course.
Devimon will always be my favorite. He's badass and he had the same voice as Doctor House in German.
