One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 (Switch, PS4, XBox One, PC; 2020)

This game is reminding me of how weird it is that Toei keeps marketing Sanji's family. Except for Reiju, they're all assholes and they never exactly redeemed themselves either. That maid they beat is still on the floor of their castle for all we know. Are they popular at all?

That said, Sabo looks fun. I like how they're mixing is fire attacks to his pipe-based fighting style.

I checked the last popularity poll. Reiju was 14th, Ichiji was 57th, Yonji was 89th and Niji was 93rd. (Sora was 65th and Judge didn't even place! XD) So, Ichiji and Reiju are popular enough. And they probably should have been the only playable ones between them all.

Being an unredeemable asshole shouldn't be a barrier of entry for a character to be playable. If that were the case, Akainu, Moriah, Doflamingo, and Lucci wouldn't have been playable.

I didn't read it that way. They HAVE shown a level of acknowledgement for Sanji that wasn't there before in their own tsunderey way. That doesn't mean they're good people now, but there's more nuance between them after being saved by the brother they viewed as a worthless weakling.

Half of Baroque Works have more plot relevance than those three if we're honest. So weird we never got Bon Kurei but we're getting these three non entities. Even Reiju hasn't really done much past sucking poison out of Luffy.

I agree, but then again, Perona is in both Pirate Warriors and Burning Blood, so evidentially we have different standards then the casters.

In terms of relevancy and recency bias, the Vinsmokes have a higher advantage than Kuro, Arlong, or half of Baroque Works that most fans have forgotten about. That's what the developers are thinking and the ones who want East Blue villains playable are in the minority. It sucks, but that's how it goes.

Ignoring that they are leagues more recent, have ties to one of the monster Trio and Two of them (Reiju, Ichiji) were high enough in a popularity poll.
Even if do ignore that, from the bits i have seen of Ichijis gameplay he looks stellar and i have no reason to believe that some of you have a good argument that one trick pony Kuro and Arlong would have better gameplay than a flying Superhuman with a combat suit and elemental Attacks.

Some of you should really let their hateboners in their pants, it really reads like a childish complain from a 5 year old.

You also have to remember that their dad was the one who made them into assholes, like Literally conditioned them to be that way.

I don't hate the Vinsmokes brothers inclusion, but I just wish they were more of a team character, where the 3 bros can be swapped out using a special move or something. Then having their ultimate as Black Bug would make sense with all 3 of them attacking

Idk, I think anything in Act 1 of Wano is fair game, including Blackbeard's new design. Sanji's raid suit is probably not in though

The Raid Suit might be fair game since it's shown in the anime's current opening but otherwise unless Toei or Shueisha shared design documents with Koei I wouldn't bet on seeing stuff like Drake's hybrid form or King or Queen.

The only time I remember the game's showing anything that had yet to debut in the anime was Kizaru and Kid being in Unlimited Cruise.

Made an account to say that I am just a teeny bit glad characters aren't coming back. I also watched the Ichiji gameplay and he uses Niji and Yonji as some combo ending moves/special moves- so the other two may be playable within Ichiji thankfully.

Why I'm glad they are taking out characters:

1.) If you simultaneously confirm that it will be over 40, the most characters in a PW game, AND that you are removing characters- that means enough new characters must be added to due to needing more new characters to hit the threshold.

2.) Because dear god I need more chances for Kobi to get in the game, it hurt seeing him with a model and partial kit within PW3, I had to mod and play with a limited moveset Kobi.

Other things I noticed just going through the gameplays and interviews.

1.) We may unlock enough moves to change the R1 + Face button moves or at least level them up.

2.) We may have lost combos that start with triangle for the air combos and characters with set combo types. Pausing the Zoro gameplay showed he was a type of character that had multiple triangles but less squares that ended with triangle. Carrot had one triangle per but had more square attacks that ended with triangle (like 7 rather than the traditional 4).

These games can be fun, but they're really lazy where they can get away with it. That's nothing new though.

I saw some attacks I didn't actually see in the gameplay videos from the TGS. He's really doing justice to the gameplay, it's looking extremely fluid and dynamic! And Kuzan? God, he's insane!

Keep in mind though that when the Germa 66 members were revealed in that WSJ scan, it was said "Play as each of the Germa 66 members!!", so just because we can see Ichiji's brothers for a brief moment in one or two of his attack(s), that doesn't mean that he's the only one playable. They could very well do the same treatment for his brothers.

Unless it's officially confirmed, there's no reason to think they aren't their own characters with a complete moveset. I mean, we aren't playing as them when they pop up within Ichiji's attack(s), that's completely different. To me, that sentence in the WSJ scan made it very clear that they were playable as well.

We can always hope! I'd be mad if all the brother makes it in instead of character like Capone, Bartolomeo or Cavendish… Capone is really the most deserving character to make it after Katakuri, Big Mom and Carrot imo.

Bandai reveals all of the Vinsmokes playable through a Scan and some people got an email with all the new confirmed chars until now, which even included Big Mom.

I mean, if we stop to think about it, the three brothers have completely different fighting styles. Niji is all about speed while Yonji is a mostly tough physical fighter and Ichiji shoots laser beams. They clearly would require different movesets to be playable, and at that point might as well make them separate characters.

Yes, it does make sense, I won't deny that. I was just saying that, so far, nothing says that they're a package deal. That WSJ scan made it very clear that each of them were playable, it's from an official Japanese magazine so I don't see why I (we) shouldn't be trusting them, it wasn't an error on their part or something.

I know you guys want them all in one and a same character so that we can have two more free slots for new characters, but that's not what's happening here. They'd have clearly said it in that scan if they were all playable together in one. Again, each of them were confirmed to be playable, and you can't tell me they're playable within Ichiji's moveset just because they appear for like one second during one of his attacks. We aren't controlling them, they just pop up, do a small attack and dissapear. If you're still not convinced, we'll just have to agree to disagree, wait, and see.

Yeah, the scan focuses on saying 4 new characters, so that was my mistake. However- that means its going to be a buckle down on some people's wishlist. Lord knows we are going to see a bulk go to Dressrosa characters since they can make the canon version of the arc this game, both enemies and Pirate Alliance.

Cavendish would have a sick awakening form as Hakuba.

Hasshoken would be cool to have in the game- Sai or Chinjao.

Baby 5's weapon Buki Buki would be unique too.

It's still really sad to me though to think that the max we can probably expect is about 44/45. Since it just seems so difficult to me to make a roster without cutting characters that I feel should be in the game, even before all the Vinsmokes. I'd really like the main villains of the various sagas to remain playable at the very least. I'm also wondering if we won't see any of the East Blue saga at all.
Obviously we are going from Alabasta to Wano, but I wonder if we might get flashback sequences for the crew members mixed at some point in the story.
Doubt it, just a fleeting thought.

at least the new stages looks great so far, very excited for seeing how they will remake the older stages. hopefully each stage or faction will have their own unique soldiers, kind of tired of the same old goons.

Alabasasta could get alabasta soliders, dressrosa.. hmm maybe sugars giant toys?

Pica is perfect for being a giant boss in the dressrosa stage as well.
