Romeo, Juliet, and the Prisoner of Azkaban: The Return of the King….. Sorry Class A. U lost this time
My Hero Academia - Gomu Gomu no Gentle Fist

I just imagine the UA classes looking back at this 10 years in the future and thinking it's the most embarassing thing.
Authentic high school experience.
-
Awase can you hit Mineta for us too?
Otherwise I loved seeing all the characters we've met. Even Shinso was there! I wonder what Horikoshi will do with him in the future.
-
Don't see what's so Japan about that remark. People joke around like that all over the world. I kept expecting Mirio to be awkward the whole chapter. Glad that didn't happen.
Time for Deku to get a special training?
At least where i live it´s not normal to put children into a sexual context like that, which "i would like to see you in 10 years" is, whereas Japan is famous for doing exactly that, putting a sexual spin on children, but maybe that´s just me

Don't get me wrong, could have done without it, especially after Mirio's awkward remarks.

Romeo, Juliet, and the Prisoner of Azkaban: The Return of the King….. Sorry Class A. U lost this time
Yeah, I want to see it hell of a lot more than I want to see some mute concert.
I suppose Horikoshi could link a youtube song for more immersion, though.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
This is a job for Kevin Bacon!
Foot-less dancing?
As AM suggested, Deku needs long range attacks, and just last arc we've seen Deku kicking air, and kicking himself up in the air in the process. He's had help, but I wonder if he could use weaker version of those kicks just to juggle himself in the air for a while. He has to perfect that move sooner or later. Better sooner than later.
-
Class B should've chosen a much better play, like Star Wars and Peace.
-
I actually don't mind Mineta. I think he's an okay character.
He fulfills the purpose he has in the story very well. In a story about heroism and living up to heroic ideals, we can't have all characters be "pure", otherwise there would be no struggle.
I've seen people complain about how we don't see the darker side of heroes much in the series, but in a lot of ways that might not be noticible at first, we actually do.
A scumbag like Mineta only wants to be a hero for selfish reasons. To be famous, to get the girl. We see heroism commercialized and we see characters like Iida and Bakugou be unhero-like because the point of the story is to explore what being a hero (a good person) means.
Endevour is probably the most morally awful example. This flawed nature of the heroes makes Stain's and Shigaraki's actions more weighty because the hero side is shown as flawed and fallible. Stain actually had a point and All For One abuses those flaws.
The story's points wouldn't be effective if these flaws weren't there.
I also do appreciate that Mineta's actions aren't actually condoned. He does at least get punished. I really do wish he would grow past his flaws eventually, though.
He's the "okay I get the point, but do something about it" type of character and you can actually make him like that without all the horrible harassment jokes, too.
-
If Gentle makes it in, he gets A-tier villain status. Do we need to worry about Gentle when Hatsume's building Ultron? Think most every important student got a cameo. Shinsou's breaking wood was interesting. A slight nod to his off-panel training I guess. My quibble with Hirokoshi is he doesn't do enough non-human character designs. So many background characters could've been animals or alien looking.
Deku can't dance. Call in the expert!
!

JBs translation this week seems pretty awkward, especially the Monoma part about the beauty contest, I think it's supposed to be Kendo. Not saying he couldn't be in it of course, he's a pretty girl and all.
Also lol at people thinking that Eri is Mirio's kid, if only they knew. -
I somehow missed the Mineta dialogue lol. I didn't even see him in there. After re-reading that seems very mild for him. It's not just a Japan thing to say. I've had and seen older guys make these comments when I was a kid too. It's not that unusual.
Does Japanese EDM typically sound different than western? I kinda hope their music sounds something like these these.

Man, now Mirio is spying on kids while hiding in bushes.
-

I don't think anyone doubts that men around the world are creepy pieces of shit irl. The internet's full of dudes counting down the days that Disney Channel starlets turn 18.
It's more about having an ostensibly "good" character say a line like that (to a literal abuse victim whose entire life so far was endless torture at the hands of a man) in a popular series that goes through multiple rounds of editing and reaches a huge worldwide audience. Feels really tone deaf.
…And Mirio's full moon in the bushes is one more notch in the "intentional exhibitionist" belt :ninja:

I suppose that makes sense. I kinda forgot she was held captive for so long. I just am super disinterested in her I forgot she sorta had backstory lol.
Mirio half hiding in the bushes like that makes me wonder how much he misses his powers. It must be killing him. Since we first saw him creeping through the ground with ease. Old habits.
-
Yah, we need a time skip to have mineta grow size wise and character wise, and act all embarrassed about how much of a creepy perv he was in the first part of MHA.
-
I suppose that makes sense. I kinda forgot she was held captive for so long. I just am super disinterested in her I forgot she sorta had backstory lol.
Haha can't blame you there.
Actually, though… Hmm. She wasn't tortured from birth, so maybe she had a relatively normal life as the boss' granddaughter for a few years before Overhaul took over and started using her tissue. That would make it even worse, in a way.
-
I think the Mineta thing might've worked better if he was dismissive of her because she's a kid. So, more "Oh, a kid? Whatever. We'll talk when you're an adult." and less " Hey babe, you're gonna be hot in a few years. Call me".
I'm not sure if I'm bringing my point across well lol
-

aren't both versions saying exactly the same thing though?
-
I used to think that Tsuyu was my favourite.
But since watching the anime and seeing a lot of Mina's moments work so much better when animated,
then considering all of the moments like this she's been having….
It's gotta be Mina. I really like everything about her and I can't wait for her turn to get some individual focus. -
Honestly, I don't feel inclined to get worked up over Mineta's line. I need might feel different were he hitting on her now, but other than CCC's tone-deaf comment, I don't see anything beyond "Mineta said a thing" to care about.
-
I'm being reminded of that one moment in Camp Camp lol.
!
! "Come back when you're 18." -
The thing is that Mineta is trash and anything he says comes out encrusted with an extra few layers of grime.
That sorta line is kind of creepy by default, but at least normally the implication is something like 'you're so pretty and you'll grow to be even prettier!'
When Mineta says it, the implication is more like 'when the time comes I will probably molest you.'
-
At least he's not a pedophile?
-
-
Mineta can honestly just drop dead already. I actually didn't notice that line at first. Yikes…
-
Every time it appears Mineta has matured a bit he makes sure to remind us why evolution left him behind. But this time he has gone too far!!
-
Isn't he to young to be one?
Nope. High school-age boys taking advantage of and abusing elementary and middle schoolers is a documented, if niche, problem.
-
aren't both versions saying exactly the same thing though?
What I'm trying to get at is basically the difference in him saying it kind of sarcastically rather than lecherous.
-

I like Mineta too. I think he's funny most of the time, and I 100% agree about him being an example of a "morally bad hero".
The one problem I have with him is that there's been too much pervy jokes and too little "anything else" about him. The previous chapter was an improvement, but it really feels like Horikoshi has him pigeonholed as the pervy comedy routine and not someone who could become likeable. And he's just angry and malicious all the time, he needs to take it easy. Hopefully he'll get more moments like his fight with Midnight so he won't stay comedy relief for the rest of the series.
The joke this chapter however was too creepy, even for me. Pervy jokes is one thing, but leave kids out of it.
-
Hey, at least he has confirmed us he's not into pedophilia.
And all that turmoil over a non-serious joke when Mirio didn't do any better.
-
"At least he's not a pedophile" is the best honest words that can be agreed about Mineta.
-
That's right, let's talk about how questionable Mineta is as a character instead of discussing how perfect Nejire is on that dress.
-

Yea, she rocked that dress. But back on that shitty Mineta guy…
-
Speaking of the girls. Mina is growing on me more. She doesn't get a lot of dialogue, but she's pretty fun. Upfront and bubbly without being too ditzy. We know she's low rank in the class, but she's plenty cool.
I wonder if Deku will help out the thematics team. I can't really imagine him having absolutely nothing to do for the class project and only being a secondary escort to Eri.
-
Who the heck is Nina?
:v
-
-
I call her Ashido Mina.
-
Pfft, show some respect.
So…Mina and her dancing club will do an Blue Brothers knock off?
or Mina suddenly became one of those Matrix agent -
The replace Mineta with Shinso meme is my least favorite meme, even though I'm not a Mineta fan (I enjoy him though).
Close to that is people denying Mineta having friends in class, people don't even recognize Kaminari and Mineta having similar/compatible personalities even when you put the perversion aside because of the hate. -

Yeeeeaaah, the that was really creepy and his pervertedness is awful to begin with (as said, I think he probably could serve his function without the pervert jokes). OP Film Z had this crap with Sanji and Nami turning into a kid, too. It's creepy.
-
There was a " replace mineta with Shinso " movement
-
@Long:
There was a " replace mineta with Shinso " movement
I don't get it.
Shinso is clearly already as relevant as Mineta and will come back in the story eventually, when it's fitting, so when I see people complaining about why he isn't immeadietly in Class A and not Mineta or even people complaining about him not being in there from the get go which makes even less sense, I'm just confused, as a lot of his character and the hype for him is based around him not being in the class proper. -
Mineta is garbage but he's far from the only "wasted" slot, so far (which isn't exactly a criticism - 20 is a large number of main-ish characters to develop in sub-200 chapters).
Sato, Sero, Ojiro, Shoji, and Hagakure (to start with) are less developed than Mineta, even, but the tradeoff is that they don't feel so irredeemable. We could get some backstory on Sato at any point and learn something charming about him, whereas Mineta badly needs a traumatic flashback to explain why he is the way he is, which, for now, is "a one-dimensional, tired, problematic trope." Not to excuse him, but to clarify, and provide a viable avenue for growth/change.
Really doubt we'll get that though, since Horikoshi has expressed, in so many words, that he finds Mineta's antics charming and somehow relatable (for fucks sake- Recovery Girl practically praises him for his goal/dream of "girls girls girls").
…The only silver lining to the whole situation is how physically unimposing and neutered Mineta is. Like thank god he's a dumb little baby person who couldn't get too far in molesting one of the girls if he actually went for it. I guess that's where the laughs are supposed to come from, but for me it's more like a sigh of slight relief. -
I'll also add on Koda into the no development filler kids. I had to go look up his name cause I constantly forget it.
I don't want Mineta to have a tragic backstory to explain his perversions. He's clearly just a perverted kid. I don't know how far he can be redeemed since that's 90% of his character. The rest is being a useless coward. Kaminari may be a bit perverted but at least he has other qualities. I fully support Mineta getting transferred for Shinso.
-
My god that's a lot of spoilers.
-
Well. I guess they shouldn't have shown that they are under attack. But it didn't seem too bad.
I didn't remember(realize) that Dabi's fire is blue. Makes a nice contrast.
It looks like they are going to expand a bit with the actual training portion.
-

I always took Recovery Girl's dialogue during Mineta's exam to be that you won't go far as a hero unless you have a goal you're willing to strive for, and her response to Mineta's goal is "Well, that works, I guess…"
Not really high praise.
-
I see no appeal in Shinso whatsoever, at least for Mineta you can't feel something for the character.
-
Great preview. Yeah, spoilery but people don't know the exact reason the villains are there and no post summer camp scenes. Be nice if we get some light novel scenes.
That's right, let's talk about how questionable Mineta is as a character instead of discussing how perfect Nejire is on that dress.
You know, I'm surprised no one from Class A is entering Miss Con. Plots like this are usually excuses to get the main girl(s) in sexy outfits.

Always saw it as deep red or purple in my head.

I don't want to feel hate or loathing for a kid who's not supposed to be a villain.

Blue makes sense at least if he's got the crematorium thing going on. The fire would need to be pretty hot.

Just when Shouto already seems to have enough in common with Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender, his potential secret relative has blue fire.
