Yeah, the fact that they used their quirks was illegal, but the dog still let it slide by not making it public because it was for doing good. The problem is that laws have to be upheld. If they'd made it public and let it slide that way, that would undermine the rule. For Deku and the other kids an exception would be logical because of the situation, but if all people would start doing it, chaos would ensue, that's why this law has to be held up as strongly as possible.

I just marathoned this series yesterday start to finish. Gotta say I'm hooked. I liked Sensei no Bulge so I was bummed when it got cut short. It's nice to see that this series is apparently doing well. Not sure if I will read Oumagadoki Zoo yet.
The art of Horikoshi I greatly enjoy. He does a lot of dynamic things with teeth/mouths and hands. Which is weird to say I like how he draws teeth, but they do look interesting…Maybe it's the depth lol. Overall I like the way most of his characters look. The man-child villain in particular. Those hands...So disturbing.
I think I had stayed away from this series initially because of the super hero plot. But I gotta say that I like how most of the powers have flaws as well as perks.
With the way the plot is heading I kinda wondered if any of the kids would be heading off to the dark side because they agreed with Stain's views. It's gotta be ruff trying to regulate such abilities and draw the line at when using the quirks is okay and when it's punishable. In my mind it's just different enough from all the gun talk in the US because the quirks are part of the kids. How were they to be expected to defend themselves and protect people who were incapable but not use the quirks?
Yes a couple of adults were nearby too but the abominations were also attacking and drawing some of their attention. Deku did send out a mass text so people showed up. But not everyone wss suited to fighting Stain.
I kinda hoped that Stain was one of the original wielders of All Might but Gran Torino didn't really give any indication he recognized him I kinda assumed he would know. But there could be other things he was leaning towards with the possibly hinting that All-Might predecessor is alive.
-
You're overlooking that this is exceptional circumstances.
They're in a confrontation against a villain who does not care for the rules, greatly outskills them and is going to take the life of another person. Had they followed the law after ending up in the confrontation of not using their quirks/holding back there would be a good chance they'd be dead or ending up with a lot worse than the wounds they had at the end of this chapter.
This is effectively a zero-tolerance policy and it's being carried out terribly. People need to realize there is always going to be circumstances that go contrary to the rules and there need to be exceptions made. Izuku and Todoroki should not be punished in the least and should be congratulated.
The problem is that Midoriya and Todoroki ignored orders from their supervisors as well and went after the Hero Killer themselves. They commited the same mistake as Iida, so they should be punished for that at least.
Also, we can't equate self-defense in their world with ours. Both Midoriya and Todoroki could easily kill nearby people with their quirks. Self-Defense with a gun is one thing, self-defense with pyrokinesis is another (especially considering that neither Midoriya nor Todoroki have full control of their powers yet). This is an important detail that you're ignoring.
-
Midoriya and Todoroki did not go after the Hero Killer.
Midoriya went after Iida with nothing more than suspicions that Iida went for the Hero Killer. If Midoriya had decided to attempt to persuade a supervisor/Hero he would have to:
-Find one that wasn't fighting the Noumu's, running crowd control, and/or running damage control
-Then proceed to persuade said Hero about the Hero Killer off of nothing more than conjecture.
-Then locate the place the Hero Killer was at.In the time it would take him to do that, there would be a good chance Iida and the professional would've died.
Todoroki didn't go after the Hero Killer. Midoriya just mass dumped his location all his contacts with no additional information. Todoroki had to figure out what it meant, which means he did not know he was fighting against the Hero Killer until he got there.
Self-Defense is perfectly equatable in this situation because you can not expect them to not use their quirks in this situation when forced against a villain who has killed/hurt professionals and is not giving them a chance to run.

Again, the problem most lies with the Quirks themselves. Even in self-defense, they can cause a lot of destruction. This is the whole point dogface argues. Space Hero 13 argued this as well.
This is not the same thing as using a gun or a knife or martial arts. If you used a bazooka for self-defense, I can guarantee you would have tons of people calling you out.

Man, I can't help but get the sense of "big shot" aura from Stain more so then Endeavor despite Stain just been defeated and the latter supposedly being no.2 hero.
Mostly just because Stain is just that cool.
-
Stain is fucking awesome. I hope Deku or somebody visits him in the hospital or whatever.

I guess it helps that even totally wrecked he can still everyone back down.
-
I would like to ask, did we get more character notes in volume 5?
Yes, plus non-character profile extras too! I have yet to translate them, but will shortly. (Sorry, been busy!)
-
Sooooo Stain was a hero before? Neat.
Actually, that explains Gran Torino's reaction to seeing his mask come off (and the "…!" after). GT might've known him when he was a hero.

What? No, that was never addressed in this chapter. In the least he was a hero fanboy. GT was actually afraid that Endeavor could burn Midoriya by accident.
-
he's talking about the viz translation where he outright says "if i don't reclaim my hero status…."
-
Thing i disn't see mention in the last chapter
Whaaat. Is there some spoilers out? because if there is your message should be in spoiler.
-
I'm standing by that unless future events/dialogue suggest otherwise.

I never get a big shot feel from Stain but every time I see Endeavor I feel like I'm seeing a larger than life beast.
But when I do see Stain I do see a viscous and cool villain. -
I plan on starting THIS series.
Where I can find best scans/ translations ?
Is there any place where I can download volume or two to read it "offline" so to say?

The paperback form of offline "downloading" is the oldest and best method I know:

I dont buy manga that I did not tried.
Testing with one volume costs where I live like one big pizza in italian restaurant. I prefer a pizza if I am not certain about if manga is something that I will like
But I do buy manga if I like series - like I did yesterday with Rohan at the Louvre.
Is there any "superior scanlation group" that anybody can recommend ?
I would like to avoid reading something that is as bad as mangapandas One Piece translation.
-
Well, you are asking the oficial translator for the series where to pirate it.
-
Hey, we're square as long as he tells me where to get a large pizza for $6.77 USD
O_O -

Official Viz translation, guys.
!
And I dunno, something seems off if we just assume that it's Gran Torino's worried about Deku getting fried. GT looked like he got hit hard with a sudden realization. However, he knows Endeavor (well enough to just call him Todoroki) and what he can do, so him being a hothead and going after Stain with fire right from the getgo shouldn't be that much of a surprise. It would also make more sense for the composition of that panel to have made it clear that GT was looking at Endeavor (since Endeavor is what would've triggered that thought in the first place).
He also looked like he had something to say after Stain went on about how heroes suck and how only All Might's allowed to kill him (while everyone else was straight-up speechless).
I really think he knows more than he's letting on.
(And yes I know I'm probably overthinking this, but it's fun.)

;)Out of curiosity, what was the original Japanese text for that?

Well, you are asking the oficial translator for the series where to pirate it.
Now I didnt know that..
It makes this situation quite funny
Oh well I will search on my own(and make sure to buy some volumes when if series will turn out to be awesome).
CCC- considering large pizza - key words: somewhere in Central Europe

By the way, what's with the Dudebro Todoroki in the FA translation?
-
Spoilers are out. I've been laughing for a good 10 minutes.
By the way, what's with the Dudebro Todoroki in the FA translation?
Iirc the "dude"s and "man"s are used because he uses 奴 a lot (though I wouldn't take that to mean Horikoshi's characterizing him as Broseidon; I'd take it to mean he's using it to distance himself more than anything). Everything else? I dunno.
-
Besides his dialogue itself, the word-of-god on Todoroki's speech style (from his class profile page in ch31) is, "Todoroki's Mouth: Relatively ill-mannered"

Spoilers are out. I've been laughing for a good 10 minutes.

! I need to know that Anchorman's history.
-
! new villains will be introduce right off the bat.
-
! I think the main twist is there is more than one hero killer.
-
! I'm just interested in seeing what the conversation is between Almight and GT. Something sweet I'm sure since it's about One for all.
-

! According to spoilers on Mangahelpers they talk about the Villain Alliance's mastermind. It seems he is the person who killed OfA's previous owner and wounded All Might that much.
Anyway, I have to say this manga is slowly getting from being pretty good to being pretty f*cking good. I love Stain.
-
Well, shit's getting pretty real. I want to know the background of each one of those villains, lol. They all have unique designs.
Also, looks like the ominious mention of Iida by Deku in the beginning of the arc was about his hand. I still really like the emphasis on consequences in this series - like with Gran Torino also losing the right to teach, and yes, like people have already pointed out ever since Stain has been introduced, it's also pointed out that Stain's POV could possibly be seen as pretty appealing - and also a source of chaos. -
The Class A kids sure got overlooked in this chapter.
The Ochako x Deku moment was very cute.
-
My thoughts:
-Is that Iida's cousin in the Best Jeanist office?
-Lizard Stain is best villain.
-The Ship is real and Gunhead is adorable LoL.
Now is there a meaning about Stain's name and his quirk? -
What a wonderful chapter. So much building going on with the VA and the history behind OFA. I love a good info dump chapter.

Oh, how dark and edgy.
Makes Tokoyami Fumikage sound cute.
-
Just to clarify: "All for One" and "One for All" are two different things right?
-
I absolutely loved the world building in this chapter. From the reporters, traditionally one of the more fun parts of superhero stories, to Bakugou and Uradoriya, to the touch of realism involving the development of the criminal underworld and black market dealings. Support developets, the in-world equivalent of weapons dealers, would absolutely have under-the-table agreements with criminals.
I particularly liked the background on Stain and the development of his disillusionment, because it closely resembles the upbringing and psychology of many homegrown terrorists. The break from society, calcification of an extreme ideology, and eventual violent outburst are all spot-on, and that's not something I was expecting at all from a seemingly-lighthearted manga like this. Well done.
-
Just to clarify: "All for One" and "One for All" are two different things right?
You know as much as we do! The literal phrases are different, though, yes.
And Stain's name is literally blood-stain red-black. You can't be surprised when a kid with a name like that goes bad.
-
So who was the one that predicted right in this thread that there would be a reverse One for All?
