wow. is that the record for the first week?
No, not at all.
And it's based on just three days of sales anyway.

ehm…so she DOES look like a pink haired nami...
not really.. they have enough personality for me to not see them as such.
so yeah, i failed to see them look alike so much but saw the similarity only when i forced myself to see them.
and i don't have any for a manga or story to have one style of face or even body type for its characters, i mean there are tons of mangas or stories like that in this world.. what's matter the most, there are enough personality and traits for each of them and Oda is one of many mangakas/artists that are able do that.

Actually, One Piece did much better a year or two ago where it was regularly getting around 2.3-2.5 million sold in the first week. Although those numbers were never really sustainable and were probably due to a peaking of interest due to the combo of Strong World (which was a totally unique thing at the time) and One Piece having just broken the 200 million volume barrier no other manga had reached (it's just passed 300 mill, but at this point everyone in Japan knows how huge it is so that's really not going to have the same impact). Most likely, if we ever see that level of sales again it'll only be for the last few volumes
Makes you wonder, what will happen in a year or two… (let alone when the series will be nearing the last arc)
Sales have been pretty much like this for a few years now.

Makes me want to do a fun thing where I edit pictures of female characters drawn by Oda and put a towel on their heads (hiding their hair) - I can bet a lot of money you won't be able to tell most apart…

Like Silverblade said, these sales were only based on 3 days, not the whole week.
Also I'm sure Film Z was much more successful in cinemas than Strong World.

good for you.

It was, but it's just unrealistic to expect another huge sales boost, when OP is pretty much peaking ever since SW came out.

Someone did, and it proves our/your/the point beautifully.

Pretty sure most of the sales I'm talking about weren't a full weak either. Back around Marineford through FI the series was selling substantially more volumes in the same time periods. And yes Film Z sold more, but at that point the series had pretty much already hit a saturation point. My point was that Strong World and a bunch of other factors caused a huge spark of interest that caused a bunch of people to start trying the series and pushed it to unsustainable levels. That's why I can't foresee anything short of the last few volumes, perhaps even just THE final volume pushing it to those levels again, if only because there might be a bunch of people who dropped the series but want to see how it ends when they hear its ending
I know this is now from a while ago but …
@Al!naJames:
Light blue is not a dark tone. All fishmen have coloured skin (literally) since they are part-fish and it's light on all of them.
Forget the screentones in b/w manga, Oda only once used a slightly darker skin using colours, with Miss Monday. What lame excuse will cover that? Lack of copic markers? The "you can assume them to be darkskinned" is a) offensive as hell b) doesn't work because
Aokiji was clearly not ment to be black since he's modeled after Japanese actor :getlost: Huge lips are not exclusive to Africans.
Shandians, on the other hand, are clearly based on Amerindians. Did they bother making their skin different? At least in the anime? Nooooooooooooope. Why? Cause the Japanese folks in charge of the show are tottaly ok with race erasure and don't give a damn about that.I respect your point of view but this argument is going nowhere because it's clear that Oda doesn't do that just because he doesn't care, just like he does with female characters.
What … what ... wha ...
Putting aside the inherent contradiction (?) in those two statements, I just don't get it. Neither why it's offensive to assume colours in a medium of this nature nor why it's an issue that nobody has darkened skin in the manga.
Don't know if this was already asked but what was the question about Montblanc Flashback?
Anybody know what this is about?

It's a fanart (Volume 71) made for 2 japaneses in twitter: @Yusuke and @Hayarama
!
Amazing drawing :D
@Galaxy:

Oh ok. Sorry. I thought that was the leaked cover of the title or something.
Good drawing, poor color imo.
NO idea how people mistake that for the real thing.
Also those clearly used real panels and stuff as reference.
@C3 is there anything more we need to know about in this sbs? is the part about Rebecca important?
Thanks in advance.
Depends on whether you consider whether or not Rebecca wears underwear to be important. (of course, Oda doesn't answer…)
lol as expected from an sbs question What about the JK on Franky's shirt and the bits about Noland? and the water slope? is it about the rabbit-like things in the water?

JK means joshi kousei (high school girl) and was referring to Franky's hairstyle at that time. Don't know about the rest though.
Oh, ok it makes sense now. Thanks.
Franky is just Hentai that way

I can't really check right now, but if I don't remember it wrong, the Noland-question was something along the lines of "Hey, in the Noland-flashback there was a bit where he was talking about a country of dwarves. Was that foreshadowing THIS country of dwarves?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!" And Oda was like "Yes it was. As for how Noland fits into all this, WELL YOU MIGHT FIND OUT IF YOU KEEP READING HMHMHMHMHM…" (Note that this question was placed right before the chapter where it was revealed that Noland had visited Tontatta.)

I see, Thanks!
Are you by any chance associated with Yipis? When it comes to One Piece's manga the best translations are CCC's and when it comes to the anime it's Yipis's :)
Oh, ok it makes sense now. Thanks.

i'd rather call him a pervert.. but he'd think it's a compliment.. :p
Can we make Volume 73 thread?
Wait, where can I find the full translated SBS in this Volume? :ninja:
Nothing about the water slope translation in the sbs yet? Law called it 'Usagi Nami' a 'Rabbit Wave' in the filler episode, 626.
