New Chapter is out
Chapter 684: "Stop it, Vegapunk"
-
-
Off to read! Sounds like an interesting chapter, mostly from what I gathered of Smoker's redemption.
The most surprising twist: "Kehihihi in the New World!" instead of "DA CARIBEYUN"
If anyone asks "Where's the background on page 15, first panel! Oda is getting more like Kubo!!! :getlost: whinewhinewhine", it's because that's how you actually demonstrate the air that Kubo prattles on about. There was an "air" in the room because of the tension between Caesar and his minions. Pipes and whatnot would've gotten in the way of that scene.
Oda got really experimental with his Caesar faces in this chapter, didn't he? They're a treasure to look at.
-
thank you!! imma read it now
-
Hermagerd! No more caribbeans!
-
Yay! Just in time before I have to go to college. Thanks!
-
This is truly a wonderful chapter
I return with the analysis -
What the fuck was that dragon?? bahahha that face on that dragon was so funny!! smoker vs vergo was awesome too!!
-
LOL great chapter. Looks like Kinemon and crew have their hands full with Monet too, it likes like she created a blizzard there.
Also, Caeser just earned another notch on his repulsive stick. Vergo's giant bamboo stick was kind of funny, though I don't know if that was supposed to be a gag or it actually blows up like a balloon. Either way, I'm betting DF.
Also, Smoker's a badass again. Nice to see that. Though I wonder how many G5 guys are actually left alive. We've seen them die alot so far, and I wonder if any of them are going to make it out alive.
-
Vergo confirmed to be:
-
CC is so full of shit, it is too funny
Smoker can also use Hardening, interesting
The flashback did not really bring any insight for me, i pretty much imagined that it went down like that
Momonosuke looks way different than i imagined, a little version of Shen Long -
Awesome chapter
- Smoker/Vergo is just awesome and Smoker just plain bad-ass!
- Where is Sanji running? Will we have a Mr Prince / Enies Lobby moment?
- And of course Momonosuke and the mistery what the reason is for him being a Dragon? And he looks cute
-
The more I think about it, the more this makes sense.
Opening to Nippon Mukashi Banashi, a long running children show in Japan about old folklores.
The story this refers to is Tatsunoko Taro. (Taro, Son of a Dragon)
About tale of Taro, in search of his mother who was turned into a dragon.
What with Luffy wearing red jacket and nothing underneath, resembling Taro from the opening animation…
Him being the "Son of Dragon", Momonosuke is someone who turned into a Dragon..
There's so much reference parallels here lol. -
Also, I think this pretty much confirms that the blackening is Haki. Smoker did it too, and it looked just like it did for Luffy and Vergo.
-
That makes you wonder if Zoro and Sanji can use it as well. I'd think not, seeing how the thing with Sanji's leg happened, and maybe it's meant to be unique for Luffy in the Straw Hats for the time being. But I'm glad to see that it's not some thing entirely unique to Luffy, personally. What I'm less happy about is how inconsistent Oda has been with drawing the blackening or not drawing it. A visual cue is nice, but it's pretty useless if it only serves to confuse us more by only sometimes being present even when what it's supposed to be representing is actually being used.

The only problem i can think of is that Dragon looks way too small for Luffy to ride.
-

EoS, he'll be a huge dragon reining down from the sky to save Luffy in the last war.
-
Momo looks funny. Those tiny legs…
Caesar's faces are good, but part with him was dragged as hell.
Monet created a blizzard! (More points toward logia) -
Found Pandaman:
-
I wanted to see Sentomaru in the miniflashback.
-
Get fired, blow up an island.
Oh, Caesar, you nutcase.
-

Also no wings, so unless it can fly without them idk how it would fly luffy out.
-
Found Pandaman:
+1 for you! :-)
Thanks for the Chapter, quite good, now I'm very curious about next one…
-
zomg luffy met young shenlong.
-
Found Pandaman:
Nice find
@Nalkul:Also no wings, so unless it can fly without them idk how it would fly luffy out.
Well most images of oriental dragons having them able to fly without wings…its magic kidding.
Seriously, there is a lot of tradional art that has them winding their way through the sky without showing any wings. It think its like the way they drew their gods with that shawl that seems to defy gravity (the image of the Nepute family is based on that) and float behind their heads, its suppose to show their godly/celestial statusLOL at CC this chapter, seriously another title could have been Caeser, the Drama Queen. So many prime pics there.....:ninja:
-
Caesar and his various facial expressions :-D
if there will be a punk hazard live action, the role of Caesar should go to Jim Carrey -
Luffy rides dragon kid out
Luffy gets to CC
Luffy takes out all the men in CC's room to get his main fight finally
Luffy defeats CC
Luffy is the only person who can save everybody via the controls in the control room
comedy ensues when luffy keeps on hitting the wrong buttons with people's lives in his hand.:ninja: .
-
Best chapter in… Dare I say it? Months.
Smoker vs. Vergo was freaking awesome. Caesar's flashback was neat and lastly Momonosuke looks nothing like I expected. I was expecting him to be a Western Dragon but that is a killer design. Amazing, Oda's back in full swing
-
i guess black limbs is now the new way for oda to show people using offense armament haki. simpler than making the char keep saying 'armament haki' everytime they use it.
-
Hey alright chapters out and I have to say it was freakin awesome once again!
-Looks like we were right about Luffy and the Dragon, too cute ^
-Smoker redeemed, hope Sanji gets redeemed later on now fans are saying hes below Luffy/Zoro/Smoker boo.
-Why is Zoro just watching? Hes the second strongest member on the crew, what does he think this is a vacation? Some one give him the same speech he just gave Luffy, some one needs to smack some sense into this guy.
-Well if nothing else for Cc at least hes finally doing some thing evil, even if it might just actually some how help the Strawhats later on down the road.
-I really want Monet to join the crew.
Over all freakin loved the chapter.

You are wrong, it's a special way of using CoA Haki.

Dat CC troll face on the bottom of the page, I just cant get enough of it! :D -
You are wrong, it's a special way of using CoA Haki.
Yep , exactly. Luffy used CoA without blackening after the TS, too
-
Cover page. So in the end, Coribou really uses a shovel to fight. Given his bounty I was hoping for there to be more to him, though defeating a Commodore is impressive I guess.
Vergo took out the bamboo. I still have no idea what his abilities are. This was definitely a nice shining moment for Smoker.
.
That scene where Sanji and Tashigi are berating the G-5 Marines sticks out to me, probably because they both have those annoyed bubbles when speaking. It's also a nice touch that despite not wanting praise, Sanji is willing to help out G-5 Marines avoid the gas. It's a nice moment for Sanji showing that really does care about others.I like the picture of CC's two face, half human half gas. I also thought the face tears were a nice touch.
I noticed Brownbeard didn't get a smiley face…wonder if that means he is heading over to where CC and the others are at the moment. So Vegapunk was actually trying to work on making giants. I wonder if that was an unwilling World Government mandated experiment or if Vegapunk willingly wanted to try to grow humans. It's shown that he didn't go to the extremes of kidnapping children, which actually hurts a certain theory involving unwilling drugs and the jailers at Impel Down. I don't know how popular that theory is but I feel like that since the government seems to normally not kidnap kids the notion that the jailers are unwilling kids decreased a lot.
Another thing, what's with Ceasar pressing the button? Is that just a den den mushi and he's holding something in his hand to press the button? For a second I thought it was a dragon with something in its mouth, but it's still unclear for me.
And it's presumably Momonosuke. He seems really tiny, even when considering perspective. I wonder how young he is. And thanks Aohige for the brief reference that this is probably refering to, though it's not a direct reference if Taro never turned into a dragon in the story, but I don't know the tale.
-
Also, I think this pretty much confirms that the blackening is Haki. Smoker did it too, and it looked just like it did for Luffy and Vergo.
Vergo's clothing turned black the first time he hardens his bamboo rod to hit Law, more than likely not to be haki and some sort of df as sanji hinted to. Same thing happened to his sleeve this chapter. Not saying he can't use armourki but he hasn't used it yet.
-
:3
Momonosuke.
He's very :3
-
@Massimo:
Caesar and his various facial expressions :-D
if there will be a punk hazard live action, the role of Caesar should go to Jim CarreyOh my… I am picturing his acting in two specific movies - MASK and Batman (as Riddler)- and the facial expressions. Yes he's playing in a lot more (I remember Liar, Liar and others) but those two were my fave on his facial expressions.
Not a lot of actors are able to do that 'physical comedy' bit and Jim Carrey has been one of my faves from recent years. Say 'recent' because grew up with Steve Martin, Gilda Radner ect on SNL (oh those classic days).
I agree, Jim would be perfect! -

Edit: Rubiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
-
Also, like someone mentioned in the spoiler thread, was there any real point to that flashback? I thought we already knew Caesar did that. Unless the point was to show how twisted he is.
-
seems confirmed that the black color is now used to show haki utilisation,i predicted something right for once XD
the explanation of caesar's plan is a little over-written..it was clear after the first page,it didn't need all the other pages.
-
Well for me the biggest misteries are still.. What is S.A.D and how Momonosuke turned into a dragon?
-
Vegapunk is a futurama head in a jar with robot pinser arms
-
Honestly, a pretty boring chapter.
The Caesar part was way too long though his various facial expressions were great fun. Smoker vs Vergo was cool, I never thought Smoker is a quite physical fighter beast like that… He's definitely on par with Vergo's brute strength madness.

We saw Momonosuke and we almost saw Vegapunk. :ninja:

and special in what way?
it's just busoushoku, but draw in a way that it's impossible to miss without the need to shout "haki" every damn time a character uses it -

haki can be applied to weapons too
-
Chapter gave the arcs main villain some much needed exposure = Great chapter. The Caesar parts were easily the highlight. I like his reasoning for abducting kids, i like the fact that its purely to spike Vegapunk, I like that he was making the weapon for Akainu. I liked the subordiates adressing the Gas-weapon, I was wondering what they thought about that as well.
The best little touch was the sweat on Caesars face as he lied to his men; good thing they are lunkheads, he really is a terrible actor. Now, I wonder how Vergo and Monet will react to CC throwing them to the dogs?
-
No, you are wrong, it's a special way of using CoA.
Can you just answer the question and tell me in what way this is "special",instead of just say that i'm wrong for no apparent reason?
