Beck I really don't think that Smoker would resign from the Marines for the simple reason that he hasn't done so as of yet. We have been shown that he is acutely aware of whats wrong with the marines and the WG but he hasn't quit before, so why now?
The way I see it, Smoker is the guy who would prefer to change things from the inside than the outside. There is a reason he became a marine and its a conviction he has held ever since and until something really personal forces him to, he's going to stay with the marines because I believe he knows that there are good forces in the marines that would need a leader or a loyal soldier to be the island of sanity in the marines.
i respect your opinion and i know its hard to imagine smoker leaving the marines because he hasnt done so, but in relation to my theory, its one of the things that obviously needs to happen in order for the rest of my theory to have a possibility.
as i said on one of my previous post, sengoku's attitude and leadership is very different from akainu (who had been backed by the gorousei) and i guess we will see that difference very clearly as soon as akainu enters the picture.
why would smoker not quit before if he would quit now? two things: transition and character development, so far, in 2 arcs that smoker played a role in, 2 times he saw corruption in the system and twice he joined the pirates' cause: you cannot force something so sudden with smoker's character, im not saying im definitely right, but im seeing oda trying to shape smoker into something else with all these things happening to him and tashigi every arc, theyre always getting major character development and it shows they had been changing stance slowly.
and again, NO ONE, as in NO ONE can change anything in the marines inside, sengoku, garp, aokiji–-- way more powerful and influential people inside that cannot do shit inside, i really doubt smoker can clean anything inside, especially if the fleet admiral is backed by the five elder stars, the same group that decimated a village for their own selfish sake of hiding a history.
and this whole cleaning inside stuff never happened in the series, nothing major IIRC, and dont you think the reason why plot twists happening and reserved characters not yet revealed means something in terms of cleaning the WG outside? (aokiji, dragon, garp, sengoku, poneglyphs)
