Oh wow, it's been a while since I loved an episode let alone liked it. Thank God, that awful filler is over. PUNK HAZARD TIME, BITCHES!
The moment I read that part, I wanted to punch my screen. But then I realised, I would just simply damage it. Really… I just don't get people like you. What's wrong with the animation? It's Art, and Art can have many faces. If you are watching One Piece just because of how "different" the animation looks like, then I am really sorry for you.
I think you're mixing up art style and animation there, bro.
Damn it… But thanks guys
Rewatching the scene now after reading the chapter, I realised that Punk Hazard is technically not the first island the SH went to in the NW since it's not being pointed at…so technically the REAL first island they go to will be the one after PH...

wut. PH is the first, doesn't matter that they found it without the log pose. Sure, they'll prolly end up going to one of those three islands which start a path, but that island will be second.
Well it's not really a island, otherwise the log would have pointed at it right? maybe its artificial or something… I mean obviously PH is the first stop, but the first OFFICIAL NW island would be after right?

! probably aokiji and akainu's fight fucked up the whole magnetism thing of the island.
wtf is up with the girl's boobs -.-'
probably aokiji and akainu's fight fucked up the whole magnetism thing of the island.
I admit, I did think that was possible, but maybe it's just not a real island? Well, in the end, 3 choices, they choose the 4th unknown one XD

There is a possibility that it wasn't solely Aokiji and Akainu's doing, but the gas explosion incident may have started the altering of the magnetic field and the two admirals were merely catalysts.
! however dat island gone through just so many apocalyptic events, from the gas to ao vs aka, that if it was yet normal, it just sounded strange at all

That doesn't mean it's not an island. The log pose prolly won't point towards every island. And besides, if the log pose isn't pointing towards Punk Hazard, that would make the island a good place to build a government research facility.
this episode felt good for me.whenever the strawhats interact with each other and have fun , its always great to watch.
strange they cut out the part where the dragon says "who are you?" , because if they include it in this episode i think it would build up more suspense for the next episode.

Makes sense… but it could be possible either way I think, in a way it's not a island anyone else would get to, and it's not really a official NW island, but a Government Facility so...

actually, yes, the logpose should point at any island in range, with the nearest surely included.
if punk hazard was not pointed by the logpose,we have three choices
1)it's not a natural island
2)the government did something in the past to cover is magnetism,so that travelers didn't end up in a governative island by mistake
3)all the past "incidents" compromised its magnetism

Well there's no evidence for Punk Hazard not originally being a natural island, so I'd go with one of the latter two options.
@Big:
Not necessarily. There might be one partially hidden behind the chat bubble and there might be one hidden behind Brook. Not that it matters, because they're just generic samurai shadows and most likely not actual characters.
We already know what Samurai look like from Ryuma so drawing a group of Samurai and mentioning Marines/WG don't go there makes no sense. If they weren't characters they wouldn't be drawn at all and Brook would just tell Zoro about Wano. They are the strongest Samurai on the Island and the other two were shown because they were cut out by Brooks Afro. Characters who are blackened out in OP are always introduced later like Shichibukai/Underground Brokers/Yonkou. The difference is that the Samurai look distinctly different clothing wise and hair cuts unlike Shichibukai who were the same figure.
Normally don't watch the anime, but I'd been waiting to see Punk Hazard animated. Pretty decent episode. Enjoyed seeing everything in full color and motion, and damn it… that music was amazing. Perfectly set the atmosphere. I've recently actually just started paying noticeable attention to background music and it's proving to be a promise aspect of most series and films.
Some of the animation was a bit sketchy. Robin's and Nami's bodies, along with Tashigi's for that matter, are just... so... disproportionate. And like someone said earlier everyone looks really thin, like bulimia has suddenly spread across the Sunny. That being said, I liked it. Might end up watching this whole arc.
So this is how One Piece rarely has filler, they are able to fit a one chapter into one episode. And since Oda's chapters are usually packed with material, it isn't that hard.
Well it's not really a island, otherwise the log would have pointed at it right? maybe its artificial or something… I mean obviously PH is the first stop, but the first OFFICIAL NW island would be after right?
Not sure about the anime but in the manga right before the SHs leave FI the Minister of the Left tells Nami that there are islands the log pose will not point at times because they lose their magentic field for a time. So it shouldn't be a problemt aht some islands will not have a magnetic field. The Minister's words sets it up so there could other islands bisdes PH that the pose will not point at.

So uh..
! Why didn't the dragon talk? or rather, why didn't Kinemon fart?
"Who's there?"
Are they saving that for the next episode?
It was a decent episode aside from a few scenes that just didn't live up to the original panels. But damn, that colour inconsistency on Nami..I'm pretty sure if the whole team they had working on episodes weren't so obsessed with boobs every episode would be flawless.
I noticed that this episode put an earnest effort to emulate the art-style or the manga chapter, with the noticeably thinner, rounder, and smaller proportions and the more pronounced hourglass figures of the females (though the anime goes a bit overboard there). It looks like this animation team at least is using the Punk Hazard drawings as the basis or their models this arc.
I enjoyed this one pretty well. The humor from the manga was well vocalized and depicted. More fluid animation may have helped a couple of times, but what we got was pretty much expected.
And two callbacks to the previous filler arc (the shellfish and Smokers reference to "that incident")? No…just, no.
Also, who else noticed the censorship of the pirate being lit on fire? He was literally a human torch in the manga panel. Weird because Toei had a filler scene a while back in which Franky was completely engulfed in flames after his tiger skin was ignited.
[HIDE][/HIDE]
Between this and Nami changing her outfit three different times (lol Toei), my day is made!
Not a spectacular episode, in my opinion. Some scenes looked off art-wise, especially that dragon. We also did not need a recap of that filler arc. Zoro's flashback of fighting Ryuuma was also weird…...it'd fit more if Wano was the arc right now, wouldn't it?
Then it hit me. Toei is gonna have to slow down the pacing a bit. Technically, the manga and anime are both in the same arc. Hence the lack of dragon speech and Kinemon's lower half.
Animation shined in some scenes, and while some scenes didn't look as impressive as they did in the manga, it sure was colorful.
I don't want to complain too much, since it's only the first episode of the arc. Punk Hazard has more adventuring scenes (that reminds me, hooray for fun crew interaction) than Fishman Island, and lots more events occuring at once. That should hopefully give Toei a hand in extending scenes for filler, but let's see.
....
Oh, hopefully we'll get a new opening soon......
I'm surprised they didn't say "And then Z happened. Want to know the details of that story, see Film Z" Then again I'm sure that's what the advertistment in the opening was for. But eh, we're back on track, all that matters.
Ussop made this episode for me, you can just see Murphy's Law about to troll him. Though why exactly did they draw straws? Both Franky, Zoro and Robin were willing to go, was it just for the sake of having a joke =P.
@Mr.:
And two callbacks to the previous filler arc (the shellfish and Smokers reference to "that incident")? No…just, no.
What's the issue. Whether you liked it or not, it happened in anime canon and should not be made out to be like it never existed.
Also, Franky totally pitched a tent when Nami changed her top, if you catch my drift. Assuming his robot "workings" can still pitch a tent.
Finally they reached Punk hazard…that means, since this episode is chapter 655, its going to take roughly 40 episodes to get too 594....unless of course they do it half a chapter for each episode, that way it will 90 then, but I don't see that happening.

I've seen your username on other forums and you seem to be really obsessed with this "four strongest samurai from wano" thing.
There is no reason for us to believe they are not just a visual cue to accompany Brook's talk of the famous samurai country as the previous poster suggested. I'd be more inclined to believe your assumption if Brook added into his explanation a throwaway comment about a particular "strong group of elite swordsmen" but he didn't.

That comment is full of spoiler? Isn't this anime section? Why spoil it for anime only watchers. Sigh

Believe me, I've never been one to complain about the quality of the anime before. But my patience is seriously running out with Toei now. I'll still watch this arc, and I probably will keep going afterwards, but for the first time and years I skipped a few episodes at the end of FI - I NEVER skip episodes, but I just didn't have the motivation, and that says a lot from me. And when did I say I was watching One Piece because of how "different" the animation is? I'm saying the animation looks cheap and unprofessional, and we've seen from the past that Toei can do better than this, and they HAVE done better than this for One Piece. As long as they pull through when it matters, I tend to be okay with them, but FI just left me feeling bitter, and the anime's never done that for me before.
I'll give Toei the benefit of the doubt (heck, if you read all my post, I said I actually liked this episode despite the iffy animation), but my faith is slipping. Maybe my post was more harsh than I intended, but trust me, I'm not one to normally complain about the anime. I'm just frustrated with it's direction right now. We'll see where it goes, and I'll stay optimistic, but I really don't want to be let down again.

Yes we don't need a visual cue of Samurai because of Ryumas attire also the color spreads of Strawhats wearing Samurai clothing. Doesn't get any more obvious when they showed 6 Samurai and Marines/WG don't go there. Can't get any more obvious but if you can't pick up obvious hints not my problem. Brook has never been there if you noticed. Show me a group of blackened out characters that have never been introduced.. yeah there isn't. You don't have to be in denial.

7 warlords that look nothing like they should.
!
And I guess every shadowed Big Mom Pirate is going to get a name and face.
It's a visual of the samurai, and nothing more.

Half chapter episodes are expected. They've been happening ever since Impel Down.
An episode with half a chapter is just ridiculous. One chapter episode is fine since they won't catch up to the manga, so I don't see why they would do half chapters….
I don't like how basic their adaption of the comic is. They just make it so linear, panel by panel. The full page spreads are always especially boring. I shouldn't really expect much better from Toei, though.
!
Also, ugh, those boobs. Toei, that is not attractive. That is not attractive. Take a step back and really take a look at what you're drawing.
I'm guessing we'll get a new opening in 4-ish episodes, if they continue doing 1 chapter an episode. Like someone else said,
! when Law appears.
5 bucks says no new opening.
Im liking you more and more everyday. <3

If you're going to whine about something as silly as that, then maybe you should quit the anime.
And you should be complaining to Oda about the boobs instead of Toei.
I'm a bit confused reaing through this. there was razors in Zoro's lunch? That happened in the manga too? Huh..I didn't see that at all in either.
The animation was okay. Wasn't God awful. But wasn't stellar either. I really miss the animation style from back in the day. I feel like the stuff we've had since the time skip isn't…As vibrant? Dynamic? Like a lot of the characters have to weight to their movements. I can't quite pinpoint it. Hmm...I guess I miss the heavier lines, darker shadows or something.
Looking forward to the day we get a new opening and really get into this arc.
You mean like how the dragon on Punk Hazard is the first dragon the crew has ever seen. :ninja:
Yes, but that happened over 300 episodes ago or even longer (I don't even remember the episode numbers). There's a difference between not referencing an arc from the beginning of the series and totally ignoring an arc that finished just one episode ago. Though the recap was a bit unnecessary and a bit annoying, Smoker referencing it (and Film Z) was welcome for me.

It wasn't in the manga. It was just SBS trivia.

OP wiki is one place to see the most of SBS, It takes some time to get new stuff up.
I think I missed this razors thing though.. I don't remember it being mentioned.

Ah found it. its in the vol 67, someone asked why Robin was munch much, while Zoro was crunch crunch.
[HIDE]: Hello Oda Sensei. In chapter 655 of volume 66 in the scene where everyone is eating deep sea fish bento boxes, Robin says "Delicious," Luffy and Usopp are going "munch munch," but only Zoro is going "crunch crunch." Did Sanji put razor-blades in Zoro's bento, as promised? Penname- GilletteO: hnnnnn…. AMAZING!! Thank you for reading so carefully! I mean, I drew that while thinking that it wouldn't really be that bad if nobody ever noticed, but in chapter 653 of volume 66, we have this scene. There's usually no reason to use a crunchy sound effect when characters are eating bento, but I felt that Sanji would surely put the razors ans poison in Zoro's bento, so I decided to draw it in that way. The serious nature of their fight is what makes it interesting [/HIDE]

That's jacked up. I thought Sanji wouldn't taint his food. But eh, I'm not too surprised. Zoro's jaw strength would probably let him chew it safely anyways.
Oh man. Now I'm thinking back to when Luffy bit Arlong, if Zoro had done it that may have ended the fight faster lol.
I'm so excited for next week!
! Should it be the next episode where we meet the legs? I'm wondering how the talking is going to sound.
It was a nice episode, pretty funny and rather interesting… But why do Usopp have to be so cute since the time-skip? I feel like I'm cheating on Buggy because I can't help but stare at Usopp every time he appear on screen...
Inside my head
Buggy: But I thought I was your favorite character! :getlost:
Usopp:
Me: But... But... Buggy! You didn't even appeared yet since the time-skip!
Looks like they did a great work on animating Namis boobs. :) gj
