I pray the Madhouse's HxH 2011 staff will do this. They should finish HxH this season and are therefore free.
Seven Deadly Sins
-
-
^It's apparently been assigned a great time slot (17:00 iirc). That alone might be a good sign already.
-
That trailer. Dat lovely art. October is gonna be good!
-
Yeah it's going to be taking the Haikyuu! time slot so sales are pretty much guaranteed, hopefully it means a good studio is going to be handling it though I still have a nagging feeling it's going to be A-1.
-
Considering A-1 is getting a lot of action Shounen recently, that might be true…
Please be Madhouse.
Please be Madhouse.

Don't know about promotions being touched up. But this doesn't look like Toei. Colors look way to expensive(not actually expensive :P). No judgement on the animation because you obviously use the best stuff in the promotion.
-
Does anyone have Seiyuus(Voice Actors) in mind?
-
I could see Daisuke Namikawa, Hisoka's voice actor, playing Ban. I mean he's already played a pedo once :ninja:
-
Every time Ban appears, Spanish/Mexican music plays.
-
Well they've started announcing the staff for the anime. Of course it's an A-1 pictures job but at least it looks like they're prepared to spend some money on this, unlike with their Magi adaptations so maybe it will be one of their good adaptations.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=16167Studio: A-1 Pictures
Director: Tensai Okamura
Scriptwriter: Shotaro Suga
Character Design: Keigo Sasaki
Chief Animator: Keigo Sasaki
Composer: Hiroyuki Sawano Misaki Kuno as Hawk
Sora Amamiya as Elizabeth
Yuuki Kaji as MeliodasYuuki Kaji is in pretty much everything nowadays and Sora Amamiya looks like she's gaining a lot of popularity playing Main characters in a lot of recent shows. The one pick I'm kind of iffy on is Sawano doing the music. 'Epic' orchestrated music with a bunch of vocals thrown in is nice sometimes but I think a Fairy Tail kind of soundtrack which has a kind of Celtic feel with all the flutes and pipes would fit The seven deadly sins more. Aw well maybe Sawano will mix it up or bit or prove me wrong with usual style.
-
After Baldulf posted the track that was pretty much a perfect match for the latest chapter, part of me foolishly hoped that particular composer would be the one employed, but alas.
-
If Keichii Okabe made the soundtrack for the Seven deadly sins the anime could have literally been black and white stick figures made in flash and I still would have loved it based on the soundtrack alone
-
Oh ffs, Yuki Kaji, Amamiya Sora AND A-1? Do they hate this series so much?!
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I could see Daisuke Namikawa, Hisoka's voice actor, playing Ban. I mean he's already played a pedo once :ninja:
I still hope they do this…
-
Tensai Okamura directed great things like the Cowboy Bebop movie and Stink Bomb. There is still hope, right guys? …right?
-
A-1 proved that they're able to make great adaptations. So, I will remain optimistic for now.
As for the VA, I didn't expect that choice for Meliodas (I like this VA but somehow I was expecting a more "childish" voice like Luffy for example).
Now, all I need to know is the format (1-cour, 2-cour or more ?). -
A-1 proved that they're able to make great SoL and rather bad action adaptations.
Fixed it for you. Ao no Exorcist, Magi S1, Fairy Tail, SAO… NnT has predecessors that make my hopes dwindle. They are far better when they do Space Brothers, Idolm@ster or other SoL.
I hope for a 2-cour, though.
-
Oh, is that so? Then the director gives me hope.
I always put more stock in the names than the studio.
-
The names are terrible for the most part as well. Sawano is the most talented in the staff, but this is not his type of anime at all. And the VAs are just… just... ARGH.
-
At first I was gonna bring up Stink Bomb but then I saw that he also directed Blue Exorcist…nevermind.
-
Yeaaaah…this is probably one of those animes that will make you so sad after 2 episodes that you'll have to stop watching and never talk about again.
-
Yuuki Kaji voicing Meliodas… way to ruin a character.
After what they did to Magi I mostly hate A-1 so you can imagine how I feel about this one. Adding Sawano to the mix is a fucking disgrace to the poor man.
-
Sora Amamiya as Elizabeth seems like a fitting choice. I like the job she is doing with Akame and Toka.
Yuuki Kaji is a good voice-actor as well in my opinion, though I agree that he does not seem to fit Meliodas as much.
-
As long as the manga is still good, it's all I care. New spoilers are out at usual places btw.
! seems like Melodias learned to bluff in his long life
-
Out of sheer curiousity, are there any adaptations of Manga into anime that you guys actually like?
Beyond HxH?
I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm usually the negative one, but I think that you are jumping the gun a little bit.
-
Dunno people look at the studio, people involved and the pedigree seems to give usually pretty good foresight on the quality of the anime.

Jojo
Early One Piece (even a few fillers)
Monster
Chihayafuru
Rose of Versailles
Hyouge Mono
And a lot more…Also:
@DarthAsthma:Dunno people look at the studio, people involved and the pedigree seems to give usually pretty good foresight on the quality of the anime.
I watch anime on seasonal basis for nearly a decade now, this almost always works out.
-
Atleast there's still hope for a good Kongo Bancho adaptation.
And A-1 just plain sucks, they actually managed to make Fairy Tail even worse than it was by adding those sailor moonesque magical spheres. Those guys just don't give a damn about the mangas they adapt and start adding stuff out of nowhere.
I wouldn't be surprised if somehow every attack in this anime gets sparkly backgrounds.
-
In the original NnT filler ending Meliodas will fight an evil-turned Liz that fused with the Demon Clan to usurp the kingdom herself after she turned mad from grief after Hendricksen killed her father. Meanwhile, Ban dies and Gowther and Merlin are never introduced. The final demon from the clan will revealed to be Esceanor and Meliodas will defeat him, killing Liz in the process. She and Elaine will be reborn in baby form and he will vow to raise them like they were his own daughters.
…Still better than the Ao no Exorcist ending.
-
All while Meliodas has asked for every clan's power and transcended his current form into something all knowing, serene and incredibly powerful.
-
To be fair, I can't really think of many great adaptations of manga in this genre. I can name plenty of SoL, sports, comedy and romance adaptations that turned out well. The only action series that turned out well off the top of my head are FMA: Brotherhood, Hellsing and the new Jojo. Throw in HxH if you want (haven't watched it) and you'll notice a trend: they only get it right the second time around. Not that the first FMA was awful mind you.
Usually, these are all adaptations of unfinished long runners with uncertain budgets mostly made to promote the source material. If they waited until Seven Deadly Sins finished it'd be on thing but as it is…

Shocking revelation!

Chapter is out. There's a monster in Hendrickson's hair.

While I don't know much about the workings of anime studio, but isn't the whole directing the anime is the job of, well, the director of the anime? Isn't the studio's job comes down to the visuals and stuff? They aren't the ones who serialized Magi's 115 chapters into 23 episodes or so. Right?
Silver Spoon is a great anime done by A1 for example.
-
As I said in another thread regarding WT's adaptation, I think the most important things beyond the name of the studio are the format of the anime and if the director is a fan of the original material (in which case he won't be tempted to "improve" it).
There are no studio with perfect track record (even Madhouse that people worship failed in the past). The closest in recent history is IG but I know people who hated what they did at the end of season 1 of SnK.
The fact that the chosen studio managed to produced at least one good adaptation is still a good sign. A1 did a good job with some adaptations. That's good enough for me to give them a chance.Depending on the format they choose, it's easier to predict if they can fail.
The problem with this one is that I can't see a good ending point in the manga with a classic 1-cour or 2-cour without risking either pacing issues or an original ending if they can't reach an exciting moment to end the season.
Ideally, it would be at least a 3-cour reaching the end of the current arc which is likely to end soon.As for Kaji being Meliodas, after checking his history, the more I think about it the more I can hear his voice fitting that character. I'm more worried about Hawk's VA choice.
As for the latest chapter, I didn't like the end. Weird flow with Dreyfus coming back just like that.
-
First the naked women, now cross-dressing? Geez, at least Nakaba could have shaved Dreyfus.

I'll even name ya one case where the anime is barely anything like the manga, but people love it.
Ghost in the Shell.
3 different anime continuities with different merits/demerits.
All 3 drastically different from the source material.
Very, very few people disgrunled by that.
-
The producers are sitting on a mine of gold. If they want to screw it by handling it to a sloppy studio its their problem.
I'll wait to see the first episode, if its bad so be it. At least I hope that doesnt have negative consequences to the manga.
-
Saw a news piece on this and saw Sawano's name. More Sawano! Isn't that too much at this point, though? That's 3 OSTs in the span of 2 years already. I've seen good things about this, but the first chapter didn't exactly offer anything too unique, felt like Fairy Tail, granted, more of the earlier Fairy Tail, but I don't like that feeling. The art style is interesting, the eyes remind me of Dragonball/Toriyama's style. For some reason I don't see Sawano's OSTs fitting here.

It isn't, it's just really well done.
-
Thought it was okay. :)
-
Yeah it's not super unique series but it is a really high quality shounen battle series that's full of polish. It's kind of like Uncharted 2, not breaking any new ground but Goddamn does it do so many things right.
-
Sort of like Fairy Tail was the first 50-60 chapters? Didn't break any new grounds, but was decent enough. Yeah, sounds good.

Its similar, but NnT strongest point is the character interaction, in which it far surpasses Fairy Tail even at its earlier stage when it wasnt too terrible yet. Just think of these Strawhats-on-the-ship-between-arcs feelings, but put at the center of the whole story. Its kinda hard for NnT at the beginning, because there is noone to interact yet and Elizabeth is not really a substitute for the other Sins.
That all said, I really cant give it too much praise. I am actually pretty surprised how much unanimous excitement it gets on this forum. It feels strange given how critical people can be here.
Because sure, all the individual components fit: The great characters, good interaction, great chemistry between the heroes, the humour, worldbuilding, recurring villains/characters/villains dont disappear after getting defeated, of course the amazing art and great fight choreography as well.
But put everything together and its just not as good as it should be. Because the main-plot itself is just so/so and generic. Nothing too bad (besides the current arc, which is pretty terrible), but certainly nothing to elevate it over its contemporaries. Its a shame really. -
For me, it's the weekly fantasy manga I enjoy the most at the moment so I don't see why it shouldn't be praised.

Not to mention, Meliodas fondling Elizabeth at every opportunity is just wrong. I can see this series going down a really fanservicey route.
-
What's really wrong is Ban's beloved looking like a 12 year old and other rather questionable things like that.
It really rubs me the wrong way.
-
The series deserve all the praise it gets, and the fanservice adds a touch of humour, nothing wrong with that.
-

That's because it feels wrong to piss on the parade when a manga is new and gaining fandoom.
I myself think Nanatsu no Taizai is incredibly bad, Fairy Tail 2.0. Actually, is the first thing to redeem Hiro Mashima of his work since now I think part of the bullshit of FT it's to blame on the editors who are doing the same with NnT.
The series is all about creating "cool moments" and kawai characters without any meaning and making no senese taking all to a point when it's ridiculous and embarassing. Not to mention the fanservice. This manga will be a hit among kids and hipsters and will be liked only by kids to years later just as Fairy Tail./Rant
-
Funny, I spent my rainy sunday afternoon reading Dreamland and Reno put all Japanese shonen fanservice to shame :-)
And people seems to think that Dressrosa is one of the best arc of One Piece when I think it has lot's of flaws and I have a hard time remembering a chapter I would enjoy reading again and again like in One Piece arcs I really like so everybody has his own taste. And I certainly don't think this title will be liked only by kids but by all those who like shounen spirit. -
I think it's a good enjoyable shonen series, nothing more and nothing less.
