And thinking in retrospect, it's pretty similar to the the whole Crocs thing. Luffy had just entered the Grand Line and already made enemies with a Shichibukai. We might have thought he was just too green to make it, but it wasn't. As matter of fact, all he's previous enemies were the ones too weak for him (Kuro, Buggy, Krieg and even Arlong - none of them posed a threat to Luffy). Luffy's first real match was Croc (and then he lost twice and won once… but won). And only later we found out why that was actually possible and not "just because of plot"
..I was thinking the exact same thing, he enters the grand line and actually GRINS (along with Zoro) when he hears he has to face a Shichibukai, and Crocodile was beyond his level.
So maybe Big Mum IS beyond his level, but when has something like that deterred Luffy? (It could be said Lucci was beyond his level too)
So maybe the actual confrontation won't happen in several chapters, or maybe it will be soon since Cake island seems pretty close to FIshman Island, or maybe, an X factor will stop the fight althogheter (Big Mom being Lola's mom?)
We don't know, but I DO know I love this chapter, Luffy was so badaasssssssss..

You just saw it written as "Big Mom" in Sanji's thought bubble in this chapter alone .. It was Mom in the Green Book, too.
Maybe there isn't one official spelling - just like there's many forms of saying it. Mom/Mum, whatever. Her name is Charlotte Linlin, not Big Mom.

My prediction is that Luffy or the other two beat up Big Mam's two men, just because he's pissed at the situation. Also, I'm glad Caribou is just left there beaten up, but when he wakes up, I wonder what he'll do? Reveal the information to the WG for money, if he knows he can't capture Shirahoshi?

This could be the "tea party" she's looking forward to: she literally invites her food to dine with her before eating it. I doubt her crew would genuinely care for her like they do if she ate them at random.
I'm also more sure than ever there's some connection between her and Bonney. Appetite and themes: Bonney's ship looks like cake and an ice cream cone.

I actually like that idea of a devil fruit, as having a cannibalistic character seems weird in a series that makes a point of not killing people who don't absolutely have to die. I agree that if she was actually just eating her crew at random, there's no way she could have survived in the new world, let alone become a Yonkou for any stretch of time. No one would willingly follow her. She couldn't even be using fear or intimidation–the whole principle of that is "Do what I want or you'll die", and if your options are running away or risking being eaten on a whim, I don't think anyone would pick the latter.

But we all know Luffy'll pick risking being eaten on a whim. He declared war on Big Mom, so why would he run away after declaring war on her?
Anyway, I like the idea about Big Mom and her having a devil fruit that bring inanimate objects to life too. Beside, did the chapter even said that she ate her own crew? For all we know, she could had just been eating an enemy or whatever.

While I'm sure you're being facetious, it wouldn't make sense that she'd get upset that Luffy offered her money and she refused saying it tasted bad if she had a fruit that could turn anything into delicious cake. Again, (and it's even in my signature) I think Oda gave some pretty strong hints what her fruit is. It's like how when Crocodile was introduced, we saw him wither that flower. Same thing here. The direct reference to stomach acid, the smoke/gas coming from her mouth, and the constant salivating… Unless Oda does a huge twist, it's a pretty sure bet.

The first read of this chapter was hard cause Oda sprinkling French phrases in Tomogens lines…
But I guess his way of talking,by saying Bon,as in Bon-nichiwa is a pun on Konichiwa(hello) abd the translator kept it in.
Also,when he calls Luffy 'half-boiled' I guess it's also a pun on his egg theme,and he's calling Luffy an Idiot

Actually, it doesn't have to be her DF power (to make inanimate things alive). That could be what the 3-eyed girl does and she just feeds them to Linin.
Also, could both "Big Mam" and "Big Mom" be correct? "Big Mom" is what her crew could call her, while "Big Mam" is what other people could call her.

No she didn't. That was cheek highlight. The nose is casting a shadow, is all. If it was a third eye, it'd be waaay higher up and centered. Its just cheek.

I'm happy that Luffy declared Fishman Island as his territory, but is he big enough to stop the government invading? I mean even after 2 years training can he beat Akainu or Kizaru? And are other pirates scared of Luffy enough for his flag to act as a deterrent? Mhmm I grow ever so curious as to how Oda plans to carry this out… Also, awesome chapter! :D

He doesn't need to hold it yet. Its still under Big Mom's protection until he beats her. And by the time he does, he'll be strong enough and famous enough to take care of it. He is NOT going to go fight her next chapter, its too soon for that. This is a confrontation thats going to build for a bit first. it might be a couple smaller islands and a 100 chapters before they actually meet face to face. (Thats how long it took for Crocodile.)

Why does he need to stop the government from invading.
I dont' think the Whitebeard or Big Mam are needed for a deterent from the governemnt. I doubt they would do anything to fishman island if it were unprotected. Its protection from Pirates and Slave Traders that fishman island needs.

Nah. Whitebeard, the strongest, is dead. Blackbeard we've seen what he can do, and he's the final opponent… Luffy is never going to fight Shanks seriously anyway, and Kaidou is established as a bigger meaner threat. Big Mom can go down, especially with the Supernova up and coming on Luffy's peer level. Luffy is going to have to be in that league before becoming pirate king anyway, so...

I can actually see Luffy taking down Big Mam's flag and putting up His.
I mean he did declare war against her. how does leaving her flag up make sense.
Kind of Ironic that when ENTERING the grand line you see a giant strawhat on Laboon, and when ENTERING the New World you see Luffy's flag again on fishman island. Almost poetic

You have to remember, that this series isn't going to last like 2,000 more chapters.
We can't wait until they beat all the supernova's, all the warlords, and THEN finally start fighting the yonkou, and then move onto blackbeard. Oh and wait, we are forgetting about the WG. There is too many people in teh series to worry about them all. The strawhats are going to skip over some of them. There not going to beat Big Mam instantly once they enter the new world, but don't expect her defeat to wait until the strawhats beat everyone weaker than her.
