Similarities in personality are ok with me. Not inheriting special abilities that will lead to success. Destiny is one of the most overused plot lines and I thought OP was free of it. I was very wrong.

About the chapter overall: The narration at the end did it for me, it tied everything together well story-wise. With last week's chapter the end felt kinda anti-climatic, but now the arc feels complete, despite the fairly quick fights. I'm okay with Jinbei joining, Caribou was not forgotten, the tamatebako was brought up, the seakings had some interesting things to say.
I guess now it feels like a good(not great) One Piece arc.

P.S. I don't think Zkaiser is talking about that. Him being destined to be a Pirate king in his belief has nothing to do with destiny itself but simply it being a shounen manga. On the other hand he is annoyed with unnecessary links like the straw hat he has. It takes away from the unique person Luffy is.
His smile is almost the same, he hears the voice of all things, he goes by the path Roger took, he deals with stuff in the same way and he even wears the same "stupid" hat.
I think that is what Zkaiser is talking about. That it adds nothing of positive to the entire character of Luffy in fact it would be much more interesting if he was unique and diffrent from Roger. Not to mention that if he has the same will and destiny and so on, he might end up on the execution platform as well (oh well he did once, but you know what I mean)

God, I love how Oda makes more Robin related jokes after the time skip. He sorta showed some at Thriller Bark (Kuma's paws or Robin refusing to do the docking) but recently we get a lot of them. Her seriousness is adorable and really nicely plays with some jokes.
As for Jimbe? I'm okay with him. Oda rarely does things I'm getting mad about, I mean, it's just a comic people, get mad about things that do matter. Just go with the flow and enjoy the ride. :)

Swell chapter, Luffy being able to hear the Seakings, like Roger, is really cool. I guess we'll be seeing a lot more of Roger bits from now on.

Solid ending for the fights; bring on the exposition of the post-arc and some inevitable backstory for Jinbe. Me gusta, I liked the fish ever since Impel Down and he has grown on me to the point that it annoyed me he was not there for a part of the story. Pretty much the same way the absence of the other Strawhats during the war etc. annoyed me from time to time.
And I giggled at Pappug, like a boss.

We don't know exactly what the voice of all things is… that is, if it was specific to Roger, or specific to those that carry the D, or just something to do with Ambition/Haki. Although we know a great deal more about Haki than we used to, it could have secrets we're not privy to yet.
Like fire fist has just pointed out we don't know everything about haki yet it could be all D users, it could just be dependent of the person. Also get real people Luffy has been special since the begining. He had hard work, a good personality, and special abilities they all are what makes him important not just this power.

I really dislike stories of fate and destined success. Originally, Luffy was just a guy in the world using hard work and good people skills to succeed. Now we are learning that the only reason Luffy has what it takes it because he's destined to. That's stupid in my opinion.

While I can't say it hasn't been shown throughout the series (Shanks, Kureha, Smoker, and others) have stated similar things about Luffy.
But I do agree that I would have preferred Luffy to have less of these, "Born with the ability" moments. Luffy's statements of "I will surpass you" to Crocodile and Kuro are more meaningful when you take out the whole fate thing.
Luffy didn't get strong because of his current abilities.
Luffy got his current abilities because he's strong.
Ace had Ambition too. And Roger was his father. Didn't mean he had the desire, will or determination to be king, to be the best.
People are surprised Luffy can hear the voice of all things? When Rayleigh mentioned it, YEARS AGO now on Shabondy, it was obvious Luffy would eventually be able to do the same thing.
It's like being shocked that Zoro has learned to cut things after training with swords. When something is blatantly spelled out, foreshadowed and set up in advance… its not odd to eventually get that payoff. Where did you THINK that training was going to lead?

Robin's a hawk and Chopper's a lesser panda here. It doesn't matter in the slightest… but he has bamboo sticks, not swords. Disappointment.
If you have such an issue with Luffy having these abilities then think back to Marineford where he got his ass kicked despite having the special haki and everyone calling him "special". Also, in the end it was all him to stand up again after Ace's death and move along.
Best chapter of the arc in my opinion. Got a lot done in so little chapters.
Wow, I love those last few pages! Seeing the story of Jimbie, Arlong, Otohime, and Fisher Tiger come full circle like that is just great to see. Plus, seeing Jimbe give blood to Luffy is a nice moment. If he joins the crew, this will be one of those moments we'll remember for the rest of the series.
Although, Jimbe not joining would kind of wreck this last page. It seem that Oda's using Luffy's request to join as a, for lack of better term, sign of progress that fishman/human relations is improving. Sorry to everyone who doesn't want Jimbe to join, but having him refuse would clash with the theme!
Would be really sweet to see that smirk of Jinbe from one of those chapters when Luffy was beating the crap out of Hody.
