Loved Gon's expressions!
-
Anyone here watch Jojo? I just realized Nen (with the checks and balances for every strengthen and weakness) is a really complex version of how Stands work.
Also its probably where Togashi got the idea for Gon's temperament for the most part. Gon has gone out of his way to save people before but when people they don't know die in Jojo part 3 they show no feeling at all towards it. Even when its right in front of them which happens often.
Just thought it was cool.

You could see it that way, and there are a lot of similarities to stands, but there are some main differences between the two, between a ghost generally manifesting next to you, people can't really modify the stand they're born with (although of course they're mad smart about how they use them). There isn't a limitation they can put on themselves to increase the power but they tend to work with what they've got for some strange strategies.
I don't really see how Togashi got the idea from Gon's temperament in part 3 in this arc, though, but yeah, especially in the togashi manhwa the person brought up the similarities of "ability users" in JoJo and HxH.

I think its the other way around. Stands are way more complex than Nen.
I remember asking earlier in this thread which one of those powers were better. -
Like you have a bunch complex abilities, especially in the latter half of the chimera arc, Chrollo's steps required to obtain an ability, and maybe a few others, but on the whole I'd actually say that in spite of playing with the idea of adding limitations and vows, the abilities as a whole are fairly straightforward. Gon punches stuff, Killua shoots lightning, Hisoka shoots his elastic love everywhere. But then you could potentially modify them, and in general the characters in the universe use them in varying ways to make them more strategic.
JoJo, you're in general unable to modify the abilities unless you have different acts or I guess requiem or I guess go through a convoluted number of steps to reach heaven, or I guess you stab yourself with the arrow again. Anyway point being you can't do it on a whim. But the abilities as a whole are generally very creative (all things considered of course, it's Araki), so characters are gifted with appropriately bizarre powers with physically stronger ones limited in how far they can move away from their user, and then they take it up a notch by being smart about how they go about using their abilities.
-
Jojo's abilities in general in jojo are more creative, but I like nen more because it usualy follows a system and a set of rules, other than "Rule no 1: Araki".
When you hurt a stand, it hurts the user, except when it doesn't.
A stand has to be linked to the user, except when it doesn't.
A stand reflects the personality of the user, except when it doesn't, or the user doesn't has a personality.I like my supernatular martial abilities organized and understandable, thankyou very much. It always bothered me in Dragon Ball that there were exploding beams, piercing beams, cutting beams, and the Kikohou the "anvil beam". Without difference other than "toriyama".
-
I don't think I prefer one over the other, I really love the Stands concept and Nen overall. Nen is kinda what I wanted the powers in Dragon Ball to evolve into when I was little but it never did.
-
It can't be a coincidence that stands were brought up when Netero does a fabulous pink heart sign with his hands, alongside that 99 fist pose to accompany his giant Guanyin statue.

@Newsmangajapon have reported that Hunter x Hunter is getting a complete reprint on April 28. Usually such event celebrates a big announcement.
Hunter x Hunter, big announcements, you know the drill, right? Most likely it is a new movie. Because anything manga related would require Togashi to actually work and we can't have none of that.
-
A movie would be all fun and dandy, but I would actually prefer him to write for the anime, sicne we can forget that he'll ever continue the manga.^^
-
That would be great news, but seeing how it's been slightly more than two years now, it doesn't seem too farfetched for Togashi to resume serialization…right?
Sigh, who am I trying to kid.

What's the difference a complete reprint and just another edition of the volumes?

Does this mean volume 32 will have presentable art?

Well of course there's going to be differences lol. He has to change things to improve them and make it his own. I just found it interesting.
I was just saying that in Jojo when someone they aren't close to dies (they've even killed several people themselves) they don't spend hours mourning over it and just get over it but when they do it in Hunter x Hunter suddenly the characters are crazy heartless people. I just thought maybe Togashi was inspired for how Gon and his friends treat death from Jojo.

I haven't read Jojo, so I won't comment on how the characters in that series handle death.
However, I just want to say that I don't necessarily have a problem with characters being indifferent towards death. It all depends on the kind of character that's trying to be portrayed.
Case in point: Just because big beefy muscle men have a stoic temperament about death doesn't necessarily mean it makes sense that a 12-year-old kid would have the same temperament.
But this point has been debated to death, so…
-

For what I know, volumes edition is made separate for each volume. For example volume 1 of One Piece has more than 100 editions, while there are other volumes with not even 5.
A complete reprint means that they will make new editions for every volume of the series all at the same time. That normally means they are promoting the entire series, so probably something big will happen, but I don't believe is Togashi return. Did they made reprints of the entire series in any other of his returns? And in others authors returns?

Well, Giorno (a main character) so far seems to be a-okay with killing, and he's 15, 2 years above Gon, which is not too much of a difference. But then you're talking about the temperament the author is trying to convey…which means...and then...
But this point has been debated to death, so…
That's true.

Giorno is also the lamest JoJo and seems to be a-okay with anything as long as he can reach his dream that he knows is just.

He also happens to be a mafioso gangstAr.

Since when have you been under the impression that big beefy muscle men weren't actually 12 year olds?
early Araki art joke

Hey I can see where you're coming from in a way. When I rewatched YYH after seeing Hunter x Hunter I found it so weird how big a deal they made over every human death in the series even though humans died left and right in HxH and people would only mourn who they cared about (well except when Gon would go out of his way to save people).
It doesn't bother me or make me like the characters less I just found it to be interesting that in one franchise that the other is so heavily inspired from one action borrowed from it can cause a lot more ruckus than it ever did there. It was just an observation,

HUNTER X HUNTER IS COMING BACK! It'll also be in Viz's Weekly Shonen Jump
https://twitter.com/SASAKI_Hisashi/status/458500451621560321
http://www.shonenjump.com/j/sp_hxhback/ -
How long has it been? I don't even remember what is happening in Hunter anymore, I'll have to do some re-reading just like the last times.
-
It's been two years since March.
Does that mean the anime will catch up by then? -
Not sure what to say about this…
What scribbles await us? -
Not sure what to say about this…
What scribbles await us?Time for a round of bets!
Whoever comes closest to the entire run Togashi will do before going on hiatus again will get to choose the avatar for the losers!I call 19 chapters (Way too much, I know).
PS: We also need someone who keeps track.
-
I call 19 chapters (Way too much, I know).
Sounds like too odd a number for me. I thought Togashi would do chapters in groups of 5, 10 or 20?
-

I factored in Togashi's laziness already.
-
So do I replace my avatar now?
-
I don't care anymore, I'm just happy to read some HxH again.
-
Yes .
-
Not changing the avatar until the chapter is released in english (the difference in time won't be this big, since we may get it a week early as usual, but it needs translation and stuff). Even though I got moderate bead of interest in this piece of news, until it happens I'm careful. Not to say exams are coming up so I can't even post here that often. Since it may be the start of dark continent ark it will probably feature nothing connected to the last two chapters. Not Ging, not Gon, not Pariston, not Zodiac, not Beyond. Probably a setup that would be totally ignored by people of HxH world, but will turn out radical. Like some guy getting his wallet stolen and going into reverie about how cool it would be to be something. Just watch as decade later we read a chapter were he powerhouses Gon and then teaches him somehting important so kid can get jobbed by the underling of an underling of Beyond or whoever will cross Gon's interests. Togashi likes to avoid usual cliches in shonen or turns them on their head, so it won't start with danger going undercover and then ignored like with Ant arc.
I'm voting 10-20 chapters. With siding towards 15-20 chapters. Can't decide between 15 or 20. But I vote that the number would be dividable by 5, but no bigger than 20 chapters. 16 or 21 - count me losing the bet. So final say is either 15 or 20 chapters sharp.
On the other note - I hope they saved budget for the upcoming episode of King vs Netero. They seem to be on miniscule wallet for invasion part, which saddens me deeply.
-
Great news ! I wonder how many chapters they waited for him to do this time. At least 30 like last time would be great. Enough for a small arc or an introduction of a big one.
I'm expecting the next arc to focus on Kurapika. The "Beyond Netero" arc can wait, I think.
In case Mangapanda/Mangastream are the only group that will scanlate it, it's good to know that I will have the Viz alternative on Monday.
-
And so begins the inevitable countdown to the next hiatus, I am very happy about it's return though
-
Togashi-senpai, are you sick? Why would you work?
-
I'll bet on 20 as well. Maybe the anime can continue, though I have some slight worries on pacing issues.
-
Yesss! that's what I call a great news! June gonna be a great month for me many things will happen :)
-
I bet on 9 chapters, hope its more though…
-
@Purple:

Do you mean in terms of his character personality?! IF so then i agree Giorno is so far the most boring Jojo in the entire series .
-
Holy shiz, I just visited ANN and what do I see? Hunter x Hunter resumes in june, wow so this jump announcement was something big.^^ Well let's get ready for a couple of scribbled chapters until the manga goes on a 2 year hiatus before christmas this year again folks.
-
^guys, take the JoJo talk to its own thread please. I'm trying to avoid spoilers here.
Well, it's finally back. I'm predicting 13 chapters of which one will be scribbles only.
-
Imagine this guys, all this time togashi has been planning out/drawing the complete next arc with assistants. The art for each chapter is as detailed as berserk and we'll get a steady release of the complete arc for the next 1-2 years.
oh who am I kidding.

Oh you mean he wasn't really on a break all this time, but will go take one while chapters are going out regularly. That would be one of the best things I ever heard of.

April 1st is already over, you jokester~

Yep, it also would be a different kinda troll from him.
-
What's this "Beyond" thing about? Hey, there's something I haven't been spoiled about yet :D, I'll better not ask about it. I'm saying 20 chapters, the art will get Togashier as time goes by.
On the other note - I hope they saved budget for the upcoming episode of King vs Netero. They seem to be on miniscule wallet for invasion part, which saddens me deeply.
All the episodes so far have looked fantastic, I wouldn't worry too much.

Now that HiatusxHiatus is also joining the English version of WSJ I'd really love to invest in it. If only they'd release a decent version of it in Europe where you can read it on a web browser instead of just on Android. I'm pretty sure there alienating over half they market just by not having it available o a browser. Why is it taking so long for them to implement that when it's already been available in the US for ages?
-
BWHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I thought half of you were saying HXH was over and would never return? It blows my mind how so many of you want this story to fail and how you ignore the fact the series ALWAYS returns from its hiatusesHXH is the best product WSJ offers
-
I think we all knew it was going to return sooner or later.
