Hunter x Hunter II

I just reread the first chapter and find that… very interesting.
So if Gon's mom is "dead", that would explain why he's no longer interested.
In fact, Gon didn't seem too interested in finding his dad until Kaito said, "He's a hard man to find since he's one of the best hunters in the world).
Also... because Ging can erase tapes from far away, doesn't that mean he's at least part materialization alignment?
Edit: I don't think Kurapica is coming back for a while, or rather, Leorio probably went to go punch him in the face and we'll see a chapter about it.
Remind me again please. Is it the manga where Gon's mother is confirmed dead with a tombstone? Cause I still have some confusion about the her voice being recorded on tape. It made me think there was a chance she was alive and just separated from Ging since he mysteriously returned with only Gon and Mito was all surprised. Argh I can't figure out how to word this right to make more sense lol.
-
There has been no confirmation on whether or not Gon's mother is still alive. Ging was just carrying Gon as a baby and dropped him off at Mito's place on Whale Island.
Gon just didn't listen to the rest of Ging's tape because as far as Gon was concerned his Aunt Mito is his mother figure. -

I don't think her voice was on the tape, Ging just says, "About your mother…."

I'm fairly sure it was on the tape since he made a point of saying Mito is his mother and he stopped the tape before he could hear her.
But I knew the reason why Gon stopped it. I just found it weird and of course frustrating cause I'm apparently far more curious than a 12 year old kid…

No, in the tape Ging says "About your mother…" and then Gon stops it. But we don't have any confirmation that the voice of Gon's mom was in the tape. It could be just Ging talking about Gon's mother.

In the manga there was no indication that Gon's biological mother's voice was anywhere on that tape. Gon cut Ging's voice off at "about your mother" because Gon isn't really interested.
-
So weird. Dunno why I thought she was about to say something. Now it bothers me more lol. Stupid Gon, I hate you! I need to know lol.
-
I think's because of the 1999 series, which pointed out, Do you want to hear the voice of your mother? I think thats what the 1999 series did though..not sure.
-

Because in the anime she was about to.

Aha! Thanks so much. So confusing when they make changes like that lol.
-
Lets give predictions on Kurapicas comeback and see who comes closest to guessing right :)
My prediction is that there will be a time skip in the next few chapters, but during one of them, we'll see Kurapika discover that the Kurta tribe isn't totally wiped out, with the survivors living out in the greater world, and that he'll have to get stronger to meet them.
-

Actually, this is a point of confusion because of the 1999 series. In it, Gon's mother is Mito's sister and she's dead (and Ging only returns home to Whale Island with Gon for the funeral; it's much less mysterious). During Ging's last message on that cassette tape, he says "Oh…one more thing. I've recorded the voice of your mother on this tape. It's all we have left of her. If you want to hear her, keep the tape running. If you don't..." and then Gon stops the tape.
But in the manga, he makes no mention of her being dead or her voice being recorded on the tape. Ging says "Oh...I forgot to tell you something. It's about your mom. If you want to hear it, keep listening. If you don't really care..."
Togashi builds this mystique around her pretty frequently in those chapters. It's the first time in the series in which Gon is not curious about something, so I think it's pretty significant.

Togashi was meant to bring back Kurapika in this arc but he couldn't think of a comeback that could top PUNCHING GING IN THE FACE!
-
Anyone here knows why the art of the manga continuously grows worse and worse?
-
^The hiatus is upon us, that's why.

He will punch Gon's mom in the face.

Not sure if I'm understanding you right. Ging didn't erase the tape at that moment, he set the Nen up so that it would erase the tape after it was listened to.

Togashi was sick. And it already got a bit better last chapter.
-
Wasn't there something posted in the TOC recently that said Togashi got injection in the arm a couple weeks back?
Now I've had a bad reaction to needles in my arm before and believe me everything becomes puffy, squiggly and anti-climactic.
-

Not confirmed dead. Probably alive.
Ging left just before turning 12 to take the Hunter exam. Then, Mito's parents died. Then, Ging's father left on a fishing trip and never came back. 10 years later, Ging returns home (for the first time since leaving to take the exam) with baby Gon. He asks his grandma to take care of Gon for a while, and when she asks about the mother, Ging says they "split up." At that point, he'd already recorded the tape, so even if Gon had listened to it, it wouldn't have any new mom info on it.
So, the last we heard, she was alive. Others have already explained the issues with the first anime and Gon's mother.

The upcoming chapters are gonna be great, I think we might see Kurapika pretty soon.
-
! J-Preview spoilers are out. I just glance every week looking for the word hiatus and this week didn't have 'em. It does have Kurapika.
-
! Gotoh is a what? I wonder where the series is going to go now, is it going to end soon? Continue for a little while longer? Timeskip maybe? Oh well, nice to see Kurapika anyway.
-
! I do not see it ending. A timeskip, I could see happening. Perhaps Togashi is setting it up and then will go back on hiatus for a year or more. Then come back with new designs for everyone.
-
It's out. Enjoy.
Wish I had time to read it.. damnit.
-
That seemed like a final chapter.
So yeah art was ok, and there's one week of worrying to come.
-
Impression, or…
! Kurapika is turning into a true Sasuke-esque character now?
And I don't think this chapter was good, at least reasonable. Nothing new was revealed, except that part in spoilers.
-
Bye Bye HXH- seems to be ending….
-
NOOOO. WHY MR.NAVIGATOR WHY???
I had my hopes up. -
It's… Wha... Begaduh....
WHAT?! -
I don't know how to feel about this chapter. Some scenes are really beautiful and I liked how the everything was left uncommented, but that is also what bothered me. I never once believed at one point that HxH might be ending soon, but this chapter makes me feel a little uneasy…
It has been a real long time since I wanted to see an upcoming chapter so badly. -
where are the other pages?
-
The editor text is what worries me the most. A "very surprising chapter" could be the FINAL chapter
-
Dunno why everyone's talking about HxH ending. This seemed like a wrap up chapter for me, but not a series wrap up chapter, more like a pre timeskip or pre new arc wrap up.
-
It said at the end "Next issue, a new chapter starts" as in this is the "send off" to the Ant Arc. Were A3C's scans that bad that they didn't even translate that?
-
HXH wont end next week, this chapter reminded me of some of YYH's last chapters for a major arc. Showing some closure for everyone involved.
I have faith that there is at least one more 50+ chapter arc in this series
-
So Kurapika made some progress…
And in the scene with bird sanctuary, that little figure with flowing hair on the left side - is that Kaito?
The letter to Mito-san probably said: "I met Ging. He is pretty cool, so don't be mad at him ! I'm going to travel the world now. See ya !
P.S. Oh I also was in a horrible, torturing agony for a few days but don't worry - I'm healthy now !"
The words about "permission" for leaving made my theory a bit denser and good enough to post. I was thinking - how is it possible to hide the world from people, yet make them know that it is round. I think that there is an edge or wall around the known world (possibly and most likely artificial) that sends you to the diametrically other side the moment you cross it. Thus giving an illusion of round world. All doubts risen nowadays by scientifical unevens are choked with censoring. The edge is possibly nen born. If you have four qualities you can approach responsible for keeping the secret for acquiring means of passing, be it ability or simply 'yes ticket'.
There is also a considerable possibility that the barrier was created to scoop out a safe haven for people to live, and the edge actually keeps outer dangers away from humans, not humans away from 'truth'. Considering what happened after just one overseas life-form, ant queen, slipped in that is also possible.
Permission is needed to pass, route is needed to find departure point and possibly return point (in case this edge makes the human world nearly unregisterable from the outside, like the Island from Lost), qualification is needed to survive and keep your mouth shut, negotiation handles juridical shit.
Also I never saw a plane in HuntexHunter. Only blimps and ships.
These are my thoughts for now. -
Lol the p.s. part, but where you guys are reading it?
-

I feel the same way. not expecting it to end in 30-40 chapters, but the story might move on much faster than I expected. It's just that now I can see some things happening faster than I thought they would, if that makes sense.
-
Simply speculating what can be written in Gon's letter.
-
Is that last page implying the king survived?
-
Wow what have i triggered ? I don't say it's gonna end, it just seem like a final chapter with all those panels without dialogue.
It's obvious this chapter is the beginning of a whole new adventure.
-
! So… the butler lived? He was always one of those things? Those things were just playing a joke? I'm confused in that respect.
It could be the end, especially since its harkening back to stuff we haven't seen the start, with a very "Open ended and the characters went on to have more and bigger adventures" thing going on. Rather than just hitting up all the ant arc plotpoints.
Still say it would be insane if it and Negima ended the same week, within 10 chapters of each other's total chapter count.
Or, it could be the midpoint. Hard to tell. That worry aside, it was a very nice chapter.
But the editor text means NOTHING. "Will Luffy and Ace survive in this flashback?"
It's obvious this chapter is the beginning of a whole new adventure.
But its NOT obvious if its an adventure we're going to see at all.
You triggered nothing, this doubt has been stewing since… well, for most of the last 10 chapters, really.
-
wow what have i triggered ?
get him! Burn him at the stake!
Grrrrrr!Other fun Editor comments: "WHY NEJI!? WHY?!"
-

! I'm not sure either, but from what I get, it seems that Canary somehow hired one of the instructors so that Killua and Alluka wouldn't find out that Gotoh died. Amane was surprised to see him, while Canary had a normal expression. She also makes a waving gesture towards the grave of Gotoh, which would be silly if there wasn't a body there.
Or it's the other way around, and Killua simply never knew that Gotoh was one of these things…which would be hard to believe and also a pointless thing to hide. -

That makes a lot more sense. Particularly if it only needs to be a short term solution for as long as Killua was there (not long). I'll roll with that unless we're told otherwise.
-
Cool chapter, how could there be such a difference in the art in only 2 weeks. Lol, Togashi seems to favor some chapters over others.
I think next arc will focus more on Kurapica since he seems to be the only character that we see in this chapter that didn't have anything to do with the chimera-ant thing. Seeing him dressed in black in some sort of church while watching the eyes of some members of this clan reminded me of this nen-of-dead-people thing. What if the nen of some dead members of the Kuruta clan was still active or something? Sounds a bit crazy, but I really want Togashi to expand more on this subject and I think it would be a good occasion.

! That is the reason. You can see before he arrived that Amane asked Canary if Killua know about Gotoh's death, and Canary answered no.
-
I'm glad the outer world thing definitely looks like it's far, far away still. This could mean we still have HxH for a long time. . .
. . .or that a time skip will wrap everything up in a matter of a few chapters.
Kurapica did remind of Sasuke, though. Bad sign. . .
Other than that, the chapter was definitely beautiful, and original. One question though: who are the silouettes that are with Gon?? I think I can see the super important Koala ant guy, and probably Kaito. . .who are the others??
-

He's apparently been sick. Legitimately sick.
Or you know, he wants to do a little better for his final chapters. Take your pick.
