I did not think that was him out of breath, more like he is getting in the zone.
I find his previous match would be better to get a handle, but, Gaku'Ei might give him a challenge in terms of speeds.

There were those 'huh' type of breathing. Also we saw a focus on his grip.
I think it's aftereffects from the battle the day earlier especially since Hara highlighted what a powerhouse gyou'un is. Actually ups the ante on the shin/gaku-ei encounter a bit if shin is playing with a handicap and gaku is powered up by rage. Wouldn't change the outcome but still.
Could be fatigue, to me it still seems to be a deep concentration type of thing, more than Shin being tired. Especially because of his eyes, they seem to be ready to murder someone.
His body probably just got used to the weight of the glaive and he's feeling an emotional rush or something. Like "Man I can't believe how awesome this glaive is!"
Either that or it's something he ate.
Damn this chapter

! That save from Akakin
The art of that save….masterpiece.
Akou is a beast. That parry made my jaw drop.
Akou's leg might be broken from that save, the way it slammed the ground did not look good.
I guess that no Zhao general dies today, and Akou is unable to keep on fighting even though he is alive.
I love that crazy guy. How he just doesn't let the hype get to him.
Just throw fucking knives at the boss level opponent, who cares.
His horse with gravity defying powers deserves praise as well. Yeah, horses are definitely not Hara's forte.
Akou sure is a tough cookie.

They're Skyrim horses. I'm sure they're fine
I kinda hope Shin deals with Gakuei relatively fast and then joins the party at Bananji and Gyoun's.
Because as much as Hara tries to convince us Gakuei is a serious opponent for Shin, I just can't buy it. The extra morale might boost his stats a little, sure, but Shin has beaten bigger fish when he was weaker.
Hell I don't even know if I consider Gakuei even on the same level as Rinko
I suppose Gakuei might have an advantage since he's more used to his weapon. The fight might serve as a stepping stone for mastering the glaive. You just know Shin can't win this by half-assing against a master of the spear.
I can see Shin dealing with Gakuei the same way Ouki took out Shomou way back when. I feel like that'd be a good way to show that he's starting to play with the big boys and make his inevitable victory over Gyo'un not feel like a bit of an asspull.
Who knows with Hara sometimes though.

Eh!? Gaku'ei will die for sure.

Horses ? They are no big deal. The kind of damages he shows and the way characters turns up just fine in few days afterwards should be modern marvel….

I wasn't talking about realistic portrayal of horses, but the way they are drawn. His humans have natural looking movements most of the time, unlike horses who look like robots attempting to act like horses. Like all the horses in the world of Kingdom have died hundreds od years ago and someone recreated them according to old drawings or something.
Eh!? Gaku'ei will die for sure.
Oh, he will, but if Hara had not said their plan backfired, then I would also think he dies during this day. But because he said that, then the most likely case is that no Zhao general dies, but Akou is incapacitated. So Qin lost their general, not the Zhao.
Having a hard time to point who is friend or foe here. Specially when there are two identical old dudes in both sides.

Their plan is already in jeopardy as Akou seems to be incapacitated.Somebody else has to take charge of the right now.Killing of Gaku'ei won't change that.So Hara has already took us through the 'backfire' part(i.e Zhou loses one , but so does Qin).

I have no idea what you're talking about
Looks legit to me.
That's literally nothing compared to this,

It is definetely possible, but the challenge would be greater if he did not die. Or would that be to unrealistic if Qin managed to overcome that scenario: All Zhao generals alive, their general incapacitated.
The translation read that the plan backfiref spectacularly. If they manage the kill, and Akou survives, personally, I would not call that a backfire per se. But I guess it comes down to interpretation. I think either scenario works.
shin winning against that spear guy is a must now, so i hope they dont take to long for that, the real challange should be that '" evenly matched"general. shin will have his fight against him, the spearguy against banaji, and ousen can keep on the back food, still
Goddam…
! EPIC
! >! http://www.mangasail.com/content/kingdom-560
! Predictable, but good.
! IMO will Ousen split akou‘s army in 2 and promote shin and ou hon.
! Another possibility is to promote only shin.
! Hara want probably to draw a „father and son“ moment, and ouhon have to do something really great on his own.
! He need to be in the center of a great event.
! So Shin is getting into his element, lol. Once he got within range of enemy, he immediately stopped and assumed role of a living bait, in response to appearant Gakuei's thirst for revenge towards him. Ten have trained him well. :D
! If it had to happen, this was the only way. Shin had killed Keisha, Gaku 'Ei, just had to be the stepping stone. Shin is soon to become a general. Great chapter.
! Before his strike, he remembered Ouki.He has finally got a grip on that glaive.
Ho
! lee
! >! shit. Not even sorry I looked at spoilers.

@Oga:

Good observation.
With the strenght of a raging fire….
Good observation.
! Ta, thought it was the only way it could go down. He defeated Keisha without a huge amount of hassle and Gakuei was his subordinate.
glaive skills: acquired
On his road to becoming the next Big Bird of Qin
So, he was doing image training, huh. Nice parallel and development for shin.
So, one Zhao down. I hope at most one other will fall at maximum.
The job now is for Shin and Ouhon to do what Mouten did on the left and stabilize the situation and keep the frontline standing. If they can decisively cripple the demoralized Gakuei army, that should be possible, especially if the two other Zhao generals are cut up from their own armies.
What I wonder: It was said that the Qin plan would not work and result in a Zhao triumph, but right now everything went well (minus the wounded Akou).
Riboku also had yet another fuck-up where despite everything being in his favour he lost another general, while he himself chilled in the center with no care in the world. Really impressive Great General stuff here.
What I wonder: It was said that the Qin plan would not work and result in a Zhao triumph, but right now everything went well
Is this really what was said? The narrator does comment in 555 on how Qin's plan (to take out Gakuei) would "backfire spectacularly", but there's no mention of a Zhao triumph as far as I remember. I think it's only meant to imply that Qin will end in a more difficult position, if that's even possible.
Said comment was followed by a brief exchange between Bananji and Riboku, who revealed a weakness of Akou's army - probably the defense strategy from a couple chapters ago.
All things considered, I'd say we are right in the middle of the horrible backfire:
Long story short, I wouldn't go as far as to say everything went well. The Qin right wing may end outnumbered and without a general. As for their 3-day plan they may not even manage to completely take out the Zhao army that was said to be weakest. And that was just day 1…
Added to that Chougaryuu is still to make his move.Truly the fight is far from over( if Hara wants to make it more desperate).
The narrator does comment in 555 on how Qin's plan (to take out Gakuei) would "backfire spectacularly"
Yeah I had that wrong.
But in my eyes it did neither backfire nor in any spectacular fashion yet (though this can change of course)
It was a shame that Akous formation did not hold longer, but it was clear from the beginning that he had to held back three seperate armies, so his army would take larger casualties.
Sure, it was broken very swiftly and Ouhon had to switch over to help, but Akou himself survived and his army is intact. Shin meanwhile arrived against Gakuei a bit later then expected but took him down instantly.
So far, anything went successfully for the Qins.
I agree that the job is half-done and that the Gakuei army has to be destroyed as well (to prevent a similiar scenario to the Qin left wing after Makous death) but that does seem to be doable if you factor in morale.
Added to that Chougaryuu is still to make his move.Truly the fight is far from over( if Hara wants to make it more desperate).
Thats the only one who can spoil the fun for the Qins.
But all in all, nothing backfired for the Qin side in my eyes
the way shin slayed that genreal should be very demoralising, i can imagine a lot of fear that their strongest leader ( of that army) was slayn in such a trivial way that the morale will drop to zero and as such easy pickings from now on
Just to crush any hopes: No chapter this week, its yet another break (it almost felt like it has more breaks then OP recently)
Also, even if I do critize the current arc all the time its still the manga I look most forward too, as One Piece is rather average right now and the other current weekly series I follow are also not really too engaging.
Well, hopefully better luck next week. Even then I fear the next chapter will just be a transitional one.
I feel pretty similar. This battlefield is a lot more engaging than anything else happening in weekly series I follow.
Same here. I've reread Kingdom twice over the past year. Despite its flaws it has been an incredibly interesting story so far.
I ll jump on that bandwagon. There are ocasionally meh moments but all and all I have only prsise for mangaka it aint so easy to write interesting stuff sbout mass battles over and over again.

This week lasts for 14 days? :P
This week lasts for 14 days? :P
Why? There is a chapter, its out in the usual place
! Shin fleeing from the field? Take down that army, dammit, as long as the rest of the Zhao are still chasing the Akou army!
And granted, we cut away, but what is the fourth Zhao general doing? Standing by and watch? How about you help Gakuei a little bit?
I swear the whole Shukai Plain battle is a contest of incompetence between Ousen and Riboku
! Also, our most beloved Zhao fighter is about to join the fray. I can already picture the fan reactions.
__
Heki Army? I'm not really interested in that frontline, though it could very well be the key to winning the campaign. I just hope we either have some decision there soon or switch frontlines again next chapter.
I'm hopping this will be that man's last appearance. I don't think Ribuko will be done after this battle but that guy would make a nice milestone.
Oh shit it's

The Hi Shin Unit is being attacked by the fourth Zhao general, that's why they are retreating while Gyo'un and Banana chase Akou. So they are doing exactly what you were asking. On page 8.
Houken, stay in the mountains, you had the chance to kill Shin at Sai, now you are going to get eaten alive.
