I was hoping Oda would do a chapter like this, showing us the battle, so I can say i'm really happy with it. We got to see how the named gladiators fight, and I think some of you people have been understimating them too much, they might not be at Luffy's level, but they sure are strong. The best was to see the two gladiators I was more interested in ( Elizabello and Don Chinjao ), getting some attention. Also glad Ricky is really someone of importance in the story, in short, it was a good chapter, I want to see more of these fights, but I guess the next chapter will show us a bit of how the other groups are doing too aside from showing the battle, not that I complain :p
One Piece 707: B Block

-
rofl lmao how strong is burgess ,didnt he defeat everybody instance?
-
I already can see how Elizabello will get defeated. He will fight with Bellamy and when he trough his legendary punch, Bellamy will use an impact dial from Sky island. ;) After that he can defeat him easily i think + he will keep the impact dial for the next round (if he make it there :P) . It will be an interesting turn of events as i see it ;)
-
He's just fodder with a name. That's exactly what he is right now. I don't recall saying that he wasn't Kyros,I said it made no sense. How is rickey being foreshadowed as much as Fujitora? The guy only had like 1 page. You sound so silly saying that.
Mislead or true lead, the foreshadowing is there. CCC already listed them, so I'm not going to reiterate.
You can claim mislead or whatnot, but you CANNOT claim there is no foreshoadowing. Because that's simply wrong.
You're ignoring entire pages of dialog for no good reason other than being stubborn. You don't really want to pursue that route, or you'll be making the exact same mistake hamad above made.

or Bartolomeo trips him and makes him waste the punch. xD
-
So
KyrosRicky was specifically compared to a person from Wano. Does this mean it's likely that Kinemon and co. and their story will connect to this person? -
or Bartolomeo trips him and makes him waste the punch. xD
Then he accidentally fires it into the ground, destroying the factory hidden beneath the colosseum.
Franky: …... well that was unexpectedly convenient. -
That is not to say though, that I underestimate that punch.
I mean geez, if that thing clean-hits, most anyone would be KO'ed or dead.I can't see the silly fodder King landing that hit on anyone important ever, but SHOULD it land clean, it'd probably take out most upper-tier fighters.
It just doesn't really matter since it'd never land. lol. Now, jokes about him launching the punch, and "accidentally" landing on Diamante or something would be funny as hell.
I really hope it at least connects on someone, be it a strong guy or not, I like the king too much for him to go away without even doing that much
-
Nice chapter. You know Ricky ain't Kyros because you know he doesn't have this
!
but anyways what would pretty boy do now, kill or be killed
-
So
KyrosRicky was specifically compared to a person from Wano. Does this mean it's likely that Kinemon and co. and their story will connect to this person?I honestly think that that's just a red herring… of the overarching potential red herring, or of the obvious Ricky = Kyros outcome. The no-name gladiators are just thinking "One sword no shield? Durrrr just like samurai yeah!"
But we already know that Kyros fought that way from his statue (and pretty much from the old man's comment).
-
Okay…..how in the hell did we get it this early ? O_O
-
Ehh, it's normally a day early when there's no chapter the week after.
-
Then he accidentally fires it into the ground, destroying the factory hidden beneath the colosseum.
Franky: …... well that was unexpectedly convenient.Come to think of it, it would be a great place to conceal the factory.

Here we go again…..

Terrible pacing
I too would have liked it if Oda had Bellamy and Bartolomeo plow their way through this block. Would've been a thousand times more interesting
and introducing even MORE characters just for the sake of filling the chapter?
The audience? Or the fighting fish?
-
http://i35.tinypic.com/av4sg2.jpg
Finally Sanji-kun can be himselfis sanji also a member of kaido??:ninja:
-
The audience? Or the fighting fish?
Fish aren't new characters. We already knew about them.
Must be talking about peekaboo audience female, old man, and robot. :ninja: -
Lmfao at old geezer, that was epic hahahahahahaha
-
Oh, well. The chapter was ok, but not really exciting. Even though I like Oda is fleshing out the new faces, I think using the whole chapter on it was a bit too much. I hope the things go smoother in the following Blocks. And I have to admit I spent the whole chapter waiting to see Bartolomeo fighting style just to find out he was the only one not fighting…
If there weren't so many things happening outside the coliseum we are not seeing because of the tournament, I wouldn't mind, though. -
Oda is introducing a lot of interesting characters with unique design :"Man Oda so lame you're going to one shot them off screen anyways, right? Laaaame!"
Oda spends an entire chapter giving this fighters some background, ability explanation, mistery and even ties to existing characters (Garp, Luffy, Jinbe, Kyros): "Man, why is Oda wasting time with this newly introduced characters we know nothing off? We should be already done with the preliminaries! Laaaaame!".
Sometimes you guys piss me off, seriously.
BTW, I enjoyed the chapter for what it was: expansion of the One Piece world and mythos, some funny character designs and fighting styles (long leg Bruce Lee wanabee? Yes, please!), and even more hype and build-up. So, thumbs up from me!
@CCC:
Agreed- seriously no need to rush here. I don't understand everyone's impulse to race ahead to the next setting/major plot point/arc. This is a 30 year comic. Relax.
The massive amount of detailed content spread out over hundreds of chapters will only serve to make a more complete and satisfying package in the end. The fact that we have to read it week-by-week is just something you have to deal with.I couldn't have said it better, some guys just want to skip through everything. Relax and enjoy the ride, we are having a good pacing, and you'll be grateful when you read all the arc at once for Oda to take his time and do things well. For me he can spend all the time he wants on these preliminaries if all the chapters are as exciting and fun as this one was, and what's better is that he did not only show the fights, but give backgrounds and relationships to some characters, keep them coming Oda
-
I knew Ricky was awesome and all, but Kyros man. He still wasn't getting enough respect, even with us pushing him.
-
@Cappello:
This gentleman http://imageshack.us/a/img15/6396/cmoney.png is priceless.
Awesome chapter and Ricky fight with only a sword and the statue of Kyros shows him with only a sword also the old man said I have seen that fighting style so Ricky might be Kyros or a disciple of him who knows. Now, no one can predict B Block.
I think that Cabbage aka Cavendish will tell Lucy to win his block so he will win his block and meet in the finals boh…or maybe he will attack luffy right now, will be defeated by him and block D will have one fighter less
-
I liked the chapter. It helps flesh out the other fighters just a bit and that's good. Honestly if Oda went the whole way and did full length fights for non-SH's it wouldn't realy be all that bad, but he seems to not want to realy do that.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Terrible pacing and introducing even MORE characters just for the sake of filling the chapter?
You go in the corner and read Bleach to realise what terrible pacing even is.
Also how dare the man flesh out some secondary characters instead of one shoting all of them immediately :getlost:
-
I hope Ricky isn't Kyros, because that would mean he's going to win B Block.
-
@No:
Okay…..how in the hell did we get it this early ? O_O
Since Golden Week is coming up, Jump came out earlier in Japan. Badda bing, we get the chapter earlier too.
Anyway….
An fun tourney chapter! I like that Oda's showing the action, and not just skipping through it. He's got some golden character designs, and it's important that we see the most out of them.
Elizabello, Blue Gilly, Dagama, Lepanto.......heh, Barty's just chilling in the side of the arena. And even Bellamy gets to beat down some fighters.
But I am curious to see Hack's connection to Jinbei (will he befriend Luffy later on because of it?), or if there's a connection because Ricky and Kyros. There's so much room for interesting backstories with these guys.
Oh yeah, and Chinjao casually remarks he knows Garp to Luffy. lol. But this does pose a problem, since the Lucy charade is starting to slip. Will Cavendish opt to stop Luffy later on? Will other people figure it out?
Something big is gonna happen in this tournament, I know it. And the other subplots will play their part....
-
If Kyros has significantly more importance in this arc than Bellamy, I will be very surprised.
Id on't think all this is just going to be an accent. Somethign will happen at the crux of this arc - potentially quite soon - and a lot of these big names will be important in the background. I'm sure of Ricky (=Kyros), Bellamy and Bartolomeo being important later, and maybe Hack. And people from other brackets too.
And herein lies my trepidation with the idea that Ricky = Kyros. I agree with you completely about the role these characters will play; except for Kyros. The guy is obviously a significant character, both plot wise and strength wise. A legendary gladiator, the greatest the coliseum ever saw. In 3000 matches he was only hit once. HYPE HYPE HYPE. And yet no one even knows if he is actually real, even though he was only from 20 years ago? And he just disappears? That doesn't add up. He's a legend and a mystery. Nothing about him fits with 'background character', which is what Ricky looks to be so far.
So then it's either something of a Red Herring, or he's lying low for some reason.
-
I knew Ricky was awesome and all, but Kyros man. He still wasn't getting enough respect, even with us pushing him.
Well done man. You were the first to notice Ricky
But supposing that he is Kyros (Undefeated for 3000 matches) how can he lose this one or maybe he lose and blame it on the age that he is getting too old or something like that. I just cant decide who will win this block.
-
Not a lot of interest happened in the chapter. Oda should have left a better cliffhanger than the "I know you are Luffy" thing.
Oh well, it wasnt bad but not super either.
-
Something big is gonna happen in this tournament, I know it. And the other subplots will play their part….
Something? just something? the whole arc is a big thing
-
There might be a new outcome of this battle royale. If cabbage and that old guy spill the beans about luffy/lucy that could result in all doflamingos man turning against luffy at once. The whole battle royale will be shut down. That way all the hyped characters get to see another day. And they will afterwards join/fight the strawhats
-
@The:
Something? just something? the whole arc is a big thing
I was being dramatic….:I
But yeah, shit's gonna hit the fan.
-
Aokiji's penguin on the color spread? :D
-
did the long legged guy have joints on his legs?
-
or maybe he will attack luffy right now, will be defeated by him and block D will have one fighter less
Maybe he will try to attack Lucy and Don Chinjao will get between them to stop them, I just don't see them fighting at the moment. I see him (Cavendish) more like an ally for the future than an enemy but something should happen to make him like Luffy…
-

Meh, the way you were saying 'Even BELLAMY can beat up fodder in B-Block, so Ricky can't be Kyros' … I think Bellamy will be more important than you're giving him credit for. Also, whether or not people win or lose their blocks isn't the sole determinant of their importance in the arc.
-
@Dan:
Wait, why would Kyros need to hide his face? No one should know what he looks like, right? No one knows if he was even real.
he has a life size statue of himself at the centre of the preparaation room, people may not remember his face, but they remember the face of the statue
-
Bartolomeo's so gonna win this block. Onepunch-man will blast most of the combatants leaving only the prominent ones.
Bartolomeo, Binami, The King and I and last but not the least… Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you. Ricky.Damn. I love Luffy this chapter haha.
-
did the long legged guy have joints on his legs?
No, unlike the Long Arm Tribe and their dual elbow joints, members of the Long Leg Tribe simply have abnormally long legs. See Baron Tamago.
-
Even if the King could land the punch, who is he going to hit? Unless punching one person can affect everyone, it won't do him any good. For a tactician, Dagama really sucks. Even if the King makes it past this round, the punch would never land against Dofla's crew nor will he have a chance at focusing his strength.
if with one punch he can make such a hole in a fortress,it's probable that the punch will have a wide radius..much like jinbe's punches..but instead of moving the water inside one's body, tat will just be air pressure, much like zoro attacks
-
Why do we even care if Luffy's identity gets revealed? Dofla is planning on him showing up and wasting time on the tournament so why bother someone who isn't getting in the way? Tons of pirates are there, no marines (Save Fuji) are there in an official capacity. Look Luffy is here to claim his brothers fruit just like everyone else who is trying to win it. Beyond Cabbage who wants to kill him and Dofla and his crew who are intentionally baiting Luffy anyway what's the big deal about him being found out?
-

He's going to punch Bellamy, who will then proceed to absorb the impact using either a dial or his springs.
-
Honestly, even with all the mystery surrounding Ricky and the possibility of him being Kyros, Barto is still the most likely to win this block in virtue of him doing nothing at all in this chapter while everybody else is doing something. Oda is clearly trying to make him stand out from the other competitors.
-
Why do we even care if Luffy's identity gets revealed?
Because as it stands now Doflamingo can't be absolutely certain that the Strawhats and Law have disembarked on Dressrosa. If Luffy's cover is blown here and now the Donquixote Family will surely put into motion whatever plan they concocted to deal with the Strawhat/Law Alliance. His cover being blown also has the domino effect of putting the rest of the country on alert to look out for his crew.
-
I knew Ricky was awesome and all, but Kyros man. He still wasn't getting enough respect, even with us pushing him.
I feel more justified in going with the avatar last week now.
Knew there was something to him being that masked.
-
Ricky is kyros descendant :ninja:
LOL, nice Old man! Now I want to see Luffy vs Caven Dish
-
Where are those who thought Luffy's block is shitty? Now we have a whole family just after his head!
And man, Luffy can't catch a break with his family. The Marines see him as the son of Dragon, their most annoying foe! And Pirates see him as the grandchild of Garp, the most annoying marine ever for pirates.
Just… damn.
-
I think that there wont be a block C match, or even if there is, the arena will be badly beaten by then.
Why? Because Oda wouldn't hype King's punch and just fodderize it in the next chapter. He's probably going pretty much mess up the arena they are fighting on.
Another reason being that something really funny is going to happen with Cabbage Cavendish :ninja:. He is going to start a rant that will put the whole waiting area in a mess. Shit will hit the fan sooner than we imagine. Cos considering the set-up Oda has currently he 'cant' select any winner(s) for the remaining blocks, therefore, chaos is the only sensible course to take…
I also think the factory is under the Colosseum, the marine restictions are pretty convenient for such a crucial illegality.
-

Well, we all know what happens to an arrogant rabbit… :ninja:

Yes, this! I agree wholeheartedly!
Anyway, this was a good chapter, although I could do with some more panels depicting where the others are little by little, just so I know the overall progression. I'm sure Oda will do well though, this arc has been really catching so far!

Random thought (seriously random), but I just noticed this in my freezer:
