Chinese raws are out
! The new judge to round out the panel of 3 is Alice's mother, interesting. She says something to Soma about him defeating her daughter. A lot of dialogue and not much progression this chapter but at least the match is underway. The hype is real.
So, we can pretty much say Soma has won this right? Using the unorthodox way of prepping his fish?
Read it like a book.
I'm honestly getting fed up with people underestimating Souma. Even his friends should know how he rolls by now. Yet they still aren't fully confident with him. He always come up with weird things!
Did they forget he defeated Nikumi with beef bought in the market for a discount? Or came in second in his block during the preliminary? Or defeating Alice with the most basic bento? Or he outsmarted Subara who defeated 100 people?

That's why I disliked the whole threesome final. It was only made so that Souma is in the underdog role again. If it had been a one-on-one duel then it would have been amazing guy (either Ryou or Hayama) vs amazing guy (Souma) but so it is two amazing guys who got a tie for the final vs dude who got into final because his opponent wasn't as good as thought.
Oh… I just realised something.
Normaly, if every judge gets to pick one candidate, as in semi-finals, then odd number of judges would ensure that no tie could be had.
But we have three finalists, not two.
Which means... that a threeway tie is completly possible.
Oh my.

For the love of Thor, they better not. I'm expecting Soma to crush them all.
Soma can't get into the top ten right now. too soon.
Winning this isn't a direct seat to the top 10 though is it?
Doubtless it would help though.

I really hope after Souma wins this election, people will stop treating him as an underdog.

I'm actually thinking that they will do the scoring system like in the preliminary. The one with the highest score wins. But then it's possible to also end up with a tie…
The threeway finals was flat out terrible idea no matter how you look at it...

I don't think it's a bad thing he's looked at as an underdog at this point. It's still kinda early in the manga afterall. I'm sure he'll be recognized for his ingenuity after this arc. But I don't really see how the story would really improve if everyone thought he was the bees knees at this point. I don't really see him getting a seat on the council either. But then again I'm not sure what those that have a seat actually get to do.
Soma can't get into the top ten right now. too soon.
No it is exactly the right time. Even after he wins a seat there are a lot of things to do. There are still 9 other seats, their flunkies and all the second and third years who couldn’t make it into the Elite 10 but have around the same skill level like the Elite 10 like most of the Top 8 from the election. It will also open tons of new plot threats like doing outside work for companies as a representative of the school and making business connections, being a representative in tournaments between cooking schools, defending his seat(at one point he will lose) and so on. You also shouldn’t forget that he theoretically has to become the first seat in his first year because if he becomes a second year the Elite 10 will look completely different because most of the third years have graduated.
Soma can't get into the top ten right now. too soon.
After you defeat the potential candiates, challenging the actual top 10 members is the next logical choice. So no, it's not too soon. He's obviously going to have to go up through the ranks and win. Soma isn't going to face the rank 1 seat after this tournament is over.
Anyways, after Soma wins. Mommy Alice is going to be a AlicexSoma shipper and the real waifu wars can begin between the Nakiri sisters.
But, Hayama was going to do it into the elite ten after this tourney. I wonder what will happen if he loses… with him and with the winner.
Well, as expected, Viz is churning out the chapters faster than Casanova, which is pretty schweet.
Leonora is best mom
I think the Casanva guys said that now they're delaying their releases until a week after the official releases

In this case, wouldn't the chairman's decision carry more weight? But you're right, this scenario is highly possible. I can't see one of the contestants (Hayama or Kurokiba) not get any vote at all.
EDIT: Can't access casanovascans and the scanlations for latest chapter is pretty late. Are they dropping it?
Anyone got a summary of the latest chapter?
There are some nice spoilers in MH: https://mangahelpers.com/forum/showthread.php/2999017-Shokugeki-no-Soma-98-Spoiler-Thread?p=3924431#post3924431
! This author knows what he's doing. So far, to me, it's the best duel of the series.
And you just posted an Alpha rip. Best remove that link
Casanova has it out already. And you just posted an Alpha rip. Best remove that link
Okay, I didn't see anyone post a link though. Noob question, what's an alpha rip and what's wrong with it?
WSJ Alpha. It's just a courtesy to those putting hard work into furthering a new, legitimate business model
Okay, gotcha. Will avoid doing that in the future.
shounen jump alpha, their (WSJ) relatively new online android official scanlation thing. you can get it here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vizmanga.android&hl=en
uses a subscription model, currently region locked to US if you try to download it from google play, but the app itself isn't, so you can install the .apk if you live elsewhere.
basically those are official trans/scans and it's even worse than what is normal to use those. Most of the respectable scanlation sites won't do it.
ninja'd
To region lock to the US is bullshit. English originated somewhere else, why don't us guys and girls get a bring in?

To region lock something at all is bullshit in the first place.
Wasn't the region lock for the app expanded to include more primary English speaking regions? UK/Ireland/Australia/New Zealand/South Africa according to the website.

They can get WSJ english through other apps, but I think the vizmanga app is still restricted, which might be because it has other manga on it as well, so licensing becomes trickier

Because you know, its not as if other regions have paid the parent company for rights to put material out in their locale and don't want competition on the same product.
Viz has the rights to North American release. No where else. I'm sure they'd gladly sell all over the world if they could, bigger market. But they don't have the rights. So it is what it is.
Also, it's trivial to circumvent it. As in download it from the american amazon app store.
There are 2 apps : "VizMedia" which is US only (ESJ + Viz digital volumes) and "Weekly Shonen Jump" (ESJ only) which should be available in most English speaking countries.
There are ways to access both of them in other countries very easily which were explained plenty of times in this forum.
As for the latest chapter, I loved the flashback. KurokibaXAlice has to happen. Souma's harem is big enough.
Good flashback; liking Leonora. Alice is the fun side of the Nakiri family.
Alice is best Nakiri. Her mom is best, her grandpa is best, her boy is best.
Only Erina is worst. So very worst.
But why does Viz call the main theme fish "pike" when tosh clearly draws a pacific saury?
Mackerel pike is another name for pacific saury it seems.
Okay. Haven't heard of such a name. But then there is even more reason for Viz to specify since northern pike is more common.
Anyway, all these loser flags Ryo and Akira keep tripping. Hayama's tears will be sold as some sort of gourmet drink when he comes in third.

It probably took you more effort to jump on your high horse than it would've done to post the link that weren't posted in this thread.

But… there isn't one?
See, monopoly is bad. Monopoly on the product you are not releasing?
I know it's how things are. It shouldn't be as things are. And yes, I refuse support that kind of model. Especially in this day and age.
I don't even know what you're saying Darth.
Viz has the rights for NA distribution. On all their stuff. No where else.
Even if companies in other countries haven't licensed a title yet, its still outside of Viz's reach and ability to manage. Why would that change when native companies can better deal with their local audiences, language, distribution, and markets? Let alone dealing with foreign taxes and licensing and all of that.

I kindly ask for you to remove the link, yes, we are aware of the hipocricy of trying to stop an online release while spreading the other one freely, but we as a forum drew the line with the american releases.

He means that we share these online releases illegally (so like Casanova for example technically isn't legal), but we draw the line at sharing the legit releases done professionally

Oh, I see. Ok. Thanks for the explanation.
#98 was nice,
! for an introduction to the last battle.
I bet Hayama will be the third, Kurokiba is the kind of competitor that surprises in the end as much as Souma with his crazy dishes.
