Yeah I think the capture levels were a little too high for those sea monster thingies.
Toriko II: Ichiryuu's Slimy Insides!!

The staff makes me think whether is he Teppei or not
-
Even more evidence Teppei's back on his senses. Pretty sure that bandage in his face conceals something he does not want NEO to see.
That's what I'm thinking, too.
I think Jirou screaming at him during the cooking fest was enough to undo/rescar the taste change. Which is INSANE considering what Toriko had to do for Shigematsu to snap him out of it.
-

This is what was I thinking before this chapter because he said he met them with before the fest which I think he was pretending in the first place
-
I would like to see Teppei get one of the ingredients of Acacia.
This is way too convenient for Shima to keep Teppei out of his way for spotlights to be on 4HK. He's gotta do something rather than being a double agent, don't you think?
And Joa not sensing Teppei is back to normal seems odd to me. Considering it was Joa's cooking made them the way they are. I would get it if she was a hunter like Midora but she's a chef.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
So Starjun and Brunch can defeat one 1600 Capture Level monster with just one hit? And Jiji's pet can do the same with an entire pack of those monsters????
And that's before Pair.

Capture Levels are bullshit.

Capture Levels are bullshit.
I liked it back in the day when capture levels weren't always about strength. Those whales were a good example, since the capture level was high due to needing to capture them right just for getting them, then also cutting them correctly. Now it's all about strength.

Back then they gave real clues about their strength and 4HKs. It's not like that right now. I mean 10 capture levels were enough to dominate one another, now all is irrelevant. There seems to be no difference with 1960 and 1980. Because of Acacia's FC probably. But what I'm trying to say is capture levels don't seem to give a clue about their strength before Gourmet World times.

In some ways, Toriko became a bit too crazy. I like the idea of the insane world and phenomena that occur, but the power level stuff is a bit crazy. The cooking aspect has been gone for a while too. I remember Komatsu trying to cook ingredient properly with other foods. Now, it's cut this ingredient in the right spot, and you've cooked the thing. AIR was a bit better than cutting one exact spot.

Yes it's become much too linear and simplistic for it's own good unfortunately. Thus sacrificed some flavor on the micro side of things. We used to get how much power levels present. Remember how Sani and Toriko tried to stop that big waterfall? Now I can't seem to fathom what is what power level wise. But it's clear this is what Shima wants.
-
Oh my god remember how hard it was to catch a puffer whale? And they failed to do it a bajillion times and Komatsu just barely succeeded in removing the poison sack, and then he made sashimi with it and laid it out all nice. That was some good shit.

Nice philosophy for a food manga I would say. Make the best of what you got. This new sense of perfectionism is tiring me out, kinda. There is always this one best method.
-
I think that's my main problem with the story, or mainly that there is a story. Toriko was mainly about a strong guy and a chef going to different places, seeing crazy things and overcoming the odds. When the main thing was going to be they would clash against some stronger people later on, that was fine. At most, they would become strong enough to fight them. Now we have mandatory ingredients to capture and to prepare in a time limit. Instead of going to places where the protagonists wanted to go to, and find these ingredients themselves, they are being shoved along to each place. There's no emphasis on everyone making their own course either.
The premise of the earth being slowly cooked, and a giant galaxy monster sounds cool, but in the process, Toriko has felt like it has become less of what made me love the series. Goes to show that not everything needs a coherent, long running story, and just short, sporadic adventures are fine.
-
same here
I mean I can appreciate it that he tries and all that, but I never enjoyed Toriko less than the last two arcs, to the point where I don't even feel like writing in this thread, I don't care about it anymore, I just read this and last weeks chapter together
It's like we substituted really menacing face shots, insanely brutal fights and crazy monsters (ignoring the eight kings) with endless exposition and introducing really weird meta concepts that are odd even for this series
Livebearer, all the fights against the bishokukai, Toriko entering gourmet world for the first time…loved these moments.
Remember Toriko against the giant panda creature? That was great. The four kings against that giant ape centaur thing? Not so much
I'm not saying it's terrible, but just that this is the dullest the series has ever been to me -
It's a lot like Dragon Ball. In the beginning it used to be all about technique, moves and exploration, but as it went on it turned into a power level comparison and things just instantly happening or being where they need to be.
It looks like we're in the "Buu saga" of Toriko. A long stream of plot devices and power levels.
-
So is the bacteria/fungus in conjunction with the dark tech how Joa induces the taste change?
-
So, AIR and PAIR ended up having names that reflected the nature of the ingredient.
So what the hell is ANOTHER going to mean?
-

Another world (the one of "souls")
-
Oh, that makes perfect sense. Clever.

@Myu:
There seems to be no difference with 1960 and 1980.
This latest chapter proves that even relatively small differences in level still translate into a big difference in power. A beast of level 1800 one shotted many beasts with level 1600 very easily.

Yes, that's what reminded of me as you could guess. I felt it was missing so far in the series though with this big numbers coming like flood. It downplayed to importance of going by one step at a time and give a sense of picture as to what levels corresponds to what scale of power. It was needed, I know that. We're talking about 6000 capture levels here. But still, one misses.
-
Teppei x Pukin is kinda official
-
I think one of the reasons the capture levels in gourmet world are much higher simply because they live in the gourmet world.
A place where no normal people can enter under normal conditions. (yes they are way stronger to)
compare it to the shining gourami, a normal fish with a capture level of 80 because it lives in a place where normal people cant enter. -
I'm currently rereading the manga from the beginning
I don't think it can be overstated how impressive the series beggining is; Toriko hits the ground running, and immediately starts building a very complete world, with comparatively short, but expertly paced and satisfactory arcs. Stuff like the Troll Kong and Galala Croc showing up in the Coliseum, and reports on the rainbow fruit getting stolen makes the world feel cohesive very quickly, and capture levels seem consistent (for now). Komatsu is the wide-eyed noob through which the readers can explore the world with, but the main character is already a relatively seasoned vet, knowing, confident, and in control of most situations - it all works well.

Hey guys.
I've taken a long break from Toriko, at least one year I believe. The last arc I read was that massive food tournament. I remember a character who had batteries in his neck and Starjun (or was it someone else?) showing up and trying to kidnap Komatsu or something, I'm not entirely sure. But my question is, would it be worth it to pick this up again? I sort of got tired of how everything just became more ridiculous and massive and exaggerated, with no backstory in sight for Toriko and the gang. Has the series gotten better?

I stopped exactly where you stopped and picked it up again a month or so ago. It gets better. The confusion sort of clears up. Give it a go. I found the tournament to be a low point, it gets better from then on.
As things stand, to give you an idea, I consider Toriko up there with my top manga chapters each week. -
So, there's one really big reason to be excited over this next arc. It's the home of food spirit and gourmet trolls that don't have a host right? Well, guess what notable gourmet troll is without a host now?
!
! Prepare for the return of Tommyrod shenanigans -
So, an evil organization wants to revive a monster that was inside a man that wanted to bring peace & was god-like powerful… Meanwhile, the heroes go to a different & extremely dangerous area of the world, where logic doesn't apply...
These remind me Naruto & One Piece a lot, but I still find Toriko awesome. :D
-
It really isn't that original of a template when you simplify it down like that, and Naruto and One Piece weren't the one to do those plot elements first
-

Everything is based on something else. It's extremely rare to have something completely original. In series, mangas and whatnot, it's much more about how it's done and how everything mingles together than anything else.
-
And originality isn't always the best thing to strive for. Your own flavor, and something fun, if you do these two, originality is irrelevant.
-
I sort of got tired of how everything just became more ridiculous and massive and exaggerated….. Has the series gotten better?
Maybe you haven't been following the thread titles so I'll put in spoilers. There's no context, you'll be fine.
! The Earth is COOKING! It's being prepared as we speak! So yes, the series is more ridiculous than ever and seems to outdo itself on a weekly basis. Come along for the ride, and make sure you don't think too logically.

When did that happen in OP?
I think he meant the first part for Naruto and the second part for One Piece.
The way I see it:
The first part relates to Naruto
So, an evil organization wants to revive a monster that was inside a man that wanted to bring peace & was god-like powerful.
Evil organization = Akatsuki. Their goal was to extract the Tailed Beasts i.e. "monsters" from their hosts to create a super weapon. One of the men who had a Tailed Beast was of course Naruto who was tasked/destined to save the world and bring in an era of peace. He is god-like powerful.
The second part relates to One Piece
Meanwhile, the heroes go to a different & extremely dangerous area of the world, where logic doesn't apply
Of course this is referring to The New World.
Put them both together you get reminded of "Naruto & One Piece". Unless I'm missing something here…

! Chances of each area getting it's own mini arc? Or is this another case of Shima dashing to finish this series? If anything my guess is the series will focus only slightly on Zebra/Coco/Sunny and Toriko/Starjun and Komatsu will get all the major focus per usual.
! Sorry. I stopped posting here to avoid negative comments like this and the responses I'll get afterwards, but this very much screams endgame. -
! OMGGG Toriko and Starjun on the same team. And both of them will capture God together.
-
! GOD not being the last ingredient to capture seems strange.
-
! Toriko + Star, Coco + Tairan, Zebra + Brunch awesome pairings. Lol @ Sunny and Livebearer.
-
! Whatever happened to needing to eat one part of the full course before being able to move on to the next? Eh, whatever.

Maybe even Ichiryuu vs Midora style. And yeah, feels like endgame, doubt the series will continue for more than 100-150, which is fine. Toriko always had ridiculous pacing.

Area 6 king is this guy then

Should seen it coming. -
! Whatever happened to needing to eat one part of the full course before being able to move on to the next? Eh, whatever.
! My guess is that just like the members of the 0 Biotope, each party will be waiting in each area for the ingredient in the full course that precedes the one they have to capture. Which guarantees an arc for each continent, but that's a given since this is Acacia's full course we're talking about.
I must say the last page made me laugh like there's no tomorrow XDDDDDDDDD.

Sunny and Livebearer combo will be interesting.
-
! GOD not being the last ingredient to capture seems strange.
Center was the taboo one.
It's weird to have this speed up in the gathering of ingredients, with the eclipse coming it seemed necesary.
And lol at Taleran, a group of all stars and.. him.
So, I'll guess that of the remaining kings (the partners and the dragon) last chapter put a contradiction that some data point said that the dragon was the king of area 4, but last chapter it was the mother snake. Last chapter, and the fact that Sunny is going there triumphs that, so I'd guess that the kings of the areas are going to be:
5- Dragon
4- Snake
3- Crow
2- WolfAnd we don't know anything about no-1

But, in that case, there is no merit in splitting up. If they all have to wait anyway, they might as well stay together and charge through every area with full force.
