Thanks for the final pages :D
Oda's building up tension in this saga like never before… O__O
I just can't wait for the next chap now...
Chapter 379 "Douriki" Discussion
-
-
Yeah you're right Steel Guardian it must be a Wolf or some kind of Dog.
Dogs hate Cats.
-
My bad. You all have my sincere apologies… I checked back, and saw my mistake. My post was the one that was incorrect; again, I apologize.
Hey no problem. It can happen. I´m just happy that that´s cleared up now. And thanks jack for the correction suggestion. I´ll edit the post in a second just to avoid further misunderstandings. And now let´s get back to the awesomeness of this chapter.
I´ve just returned and I don´t feel like working myself through every page again so sorry if it has been mentioned before.
Fukuro´s character really starts to get awesome with his incompetence to keep a secret. I really start to love that about him.
And now Califa with her constant Sexual Harrassment accusations also finally develops some sort of character.
And finally Spandam. I knew that he was a weakling but I would never have guessed that he is that weak. Well one of the Devil Fruits just has to be eaten by him.Awesome chapter. Just awesome.
-
Welll I guess that clears it up (for me). Spandam ain't fighting. He's kinda to Franky what that cat officer (forgot his name) in Arlong arc was to Nami. He'll just whack him once more for retribution! XD
Plus, I don't see Robin fighting. She's the damsel in distress afterall. Or perhaps she helps Luffy a bit with Lucchi; Lucchi is just crazy powerful. The rest… I guess it's quite obvious who fights who now.
Luffy Lucchi
Zoro Jabura
Sanji Kaku
Usopp/Chopper Kumadori Fukurou
Franky Blueno
Nami Kalipha -
Welll I guess that clears it up (for me). Spandam ain't fighting. He's kinda to Franky what that cat officer (forgot his name) in Arlong arc was to Nami. He'll just whack him once more for retribution! XD
Well there´s still the option that he´ll eat a DF himself and boosts up his power with that. Just an idea.
-
From what I gathered, he said something about having something to give them? I don't know. To me, I thought it was the devil fruits. ><
-
But, does Spandam simply think he could eat a fruit & he'd immediately obtain the maximum limit of its power straight away? I would think dealing with your new found powers or abilities would be somewhat comparable to learning how to walk or riding a bike for the first time, you're not going to master it in an hour.
-
But that would be really fun, just like Nami when she had to learn to use the Clima Tact… Especially if it's really a lame fruit.
-
yeah that'd be fun. Spandaman braggin: i've got a DF now!!! and it doesn't even have to be a lame one, ccause he won't be able to anything right anyway and will just end in the ocean anyway
-
I have to say that this chapter has indeed put the whole arc in a new light and lifted it to a new level. A little summary:
-
The jokes: Califa and the sexual harassment.. lol only Oda can think of something like that. But takes the cake is Fukurou and his incessant blurting out secrets. I hated this guy at first, just one chapter and he's cool now =)
-
The 3-headed judge: hm, do we really need even more characters this late into the arc? Anyway, all this seems to imply that the end is still VERY far ahead.
-
The DFs: opens a whole new can of worms  Spandam eating one is almost certain to me, considering how weak he is. And I still think Usopp's gonna eat the other one. I can totally understand the reasoning that it is cooler if he just gets by on his wits with regular ability - if I think of it like this, he won't eat it - but at the same time, they're sailing farther and farther into the grand line, and will meet more powerful opponents and dangerous situations, so a power upgrade can be in order. If Franky joins (or Paulie or whoever) then we'll get another non-DF user who can fish others out of the sea so that shouldn't be a problem. The mugiwara's would still be 50/50 DF and regular.
Whoever eats it.. some funny "what the hell is this crazy DF doing??" moments are up ahead.
-
The power levels: like I said earlier, still think it's just a gimmick to distinguish Lucchi as by far the strongest. He has the "hitting power" of 400 marines combined and that is without his transformation even. This is just to avoid the "ok Luffy beat Lucchi but who says he was the strongest CP9??" comments afterwards.
-
Franky biting Spandam: lol.. kinda makes me think Franky might gobble up a DF cuz he likes to bite so much, but he's already a cyborg so yeah, dunno.
-
-
@jackvance:
- kinda makes me think Franky might gobble up a DF cuz he likes to bite so much, but he's already a cyborg so yeah, dunno.
Yeh, I kinda think Franky eating a fruit would be sort of redundant in a way. I mean, he's like his own Devil's fruit, anyways.
-

Depends upon the Devil Fruit though, as I could see of them being much more dangerous right out of the gate than others that you would have to train first. Some of them might even be more dangerous in the hands of somebody who didn't know what they were doing than they would be if somebody knew how to use them.
Imagine what would happen if somebody ate… I dunno, an acid Logia Fruit.
Odds are that Spandam will wind up with the most useless Devil Fruit ever though, just because he's Spandam. Like an aquatic Zoan type that can't breathe out of water.
-
@Battle:
Yeh, I kinda think Franky eating a fruit would be sort of redundant in a way. I mean, he's like his own Devil's fruit, anyways.
The thing is, I don't see anyone with a dire need for a DF
- Luffy, Robin, Chopper: have one
- Zoro: doesn't need it, is a swordsman
- Sanji: has his kicks
- Usopp: always gets by on his cleverness and ingenuity.. his "regular ability" is his charm. Eating a DF would ruin that aspect of his personality.
- Nami: has her clima-tact to fool around with
- Franky: is already a cyborg with a bazillion abilities. (like you said)
- Paulie: has his rope action
But surely one of the good guys is gonna eat one..
-
thanks heaps greatly appreciated!!! another op chapter cliff hanger XD
-
From what I gathered, he said something about having something to give them? I don't know. To me, I thought it was the devil fruits. ><
Yes he says that, but the way he says it, it appears that it is a present for Lucci´s party because they accomplished their work. Now Lucci and Blueno already have a DF power. Which means only Kaku and Califa can be the ones to get the two.
However I just don´t see Kaku eating one. He´s already second strongest and he doesn´t even seem to care about that, so his ego wouldn´t require a DF.However Califa makes that constant sexual harrassment statements as if she is pissed of to be treated like the weak link in CP9. If Spandam would give her a DF she wouldn´t blame him for discrimination anymore and she could gain a bit of power.
@Battle:

Very true what you say. He won´t be a superior DF user but at least he´ll get more powerful then before. Imagine if he eats a logia fruit. Even if his powers wouldn´t be equal to Aokiji he at least could immediately have the ability of not being able to get hurt.
That doesn´t boost his power up but it certainly changes a whole fighting situation for a weak guy, since no matter how weak he is, you can´t harm him. Actually a perfect DF for Spandam who always prefered the sleezy way. -
Yeah.. I was going to get at that Logia point, except it would be contradicting my own that Spandam wouldn't eat a DF. Heh. Well I don't see Kaku not eating a DF. From my POV, he's one who'll do anything to accomplish a mission. If eating a DF boosts his chances of completing a mission, he'd take it. The remark he made with Jabura doesn't really link to him not wanting to eat one, but rather him not caring about rivalry, whereas Lucchi and Jabura have something going on. Heh.
-
I would say that they should give one to whatever ship the Straw Hats wind up with, but I'm not sure how that would work what with the whole hammer issue and all. A ship with the Hana Hana Fruit and a suitable supply of repair materials would be damn near unsinkable though.
Maybe one is a sort of repair fruit and they are going to give it to Going Marry. Hope not. Just a thought.
-

Well what made Kaku different from the other CP9ers is that he was just strong without any DF or special weapon. That was why I always defended the opinion that he is the 2nd strongest (we had this discussion a while ago so I don´t want to repeat all of this stuff).
The point is that having none DF power is part of his character. If he would get one it would ruin him. It´s just as if you would give Zoro or Usopp a DF. They could both get stronger with one but it would ruin their personality.
Now I don´t compare Kaku to the Strawhats, but the fact remains that he was just quick, agile and strong without any of it. A DF would ruin that now.
Califa on the other hand already is begging for a power up with her Sexual Harrassment accusations. -
Califa's using her whip weapon isn't she? That one's her "specialty". Haha I see what you're getting at though. From my pov Califa's accusations of sexual harrassment is merely a comic relief. You can see the sparkle that goes off everytime that "joke" is made. xD Oh wells!
-

Yes it is, but she still is the weakest link of the Rokushiki users. And though it is comic relief somehow it all fits together. She gets named as the last one, she is labeled as the weakest and she is the only female in the group. She herself might not be satisfied with her status in the group that´s why she could be willing to get stronger.
After all this is Oda we are talking about here so it´s not as if it would be reading too much into it. He always makes some little hints, now does he? -
Somebody will undoubtedly disagree with me, but neither of those are as tenth as good as The Holy Grail as far as I'm concerned. The opening credits to the Holy Grail alone are funnier than everything in the Meaning of Life combined. The Black Knight, the Vorpal Rabbit, the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, the wedding… there's too much greatness in that one film.
I disagree, Life of Brian was their absolute best film. Funny as hell. Holy Grail is awesome, but I think Brian outclasses it. Meanign of Life is good too, but probably my third favorite (fourth is ANFSCM).
-
Yay! finally a new Luffy's move :D. Gomu Gomu No Volcano!!!
Power Meters = Dragon Ball XD
Anyway Mr. Oda lets start with the CP9 fights please >0<
-
just a very very dumb tought…. maybe Franky will eat the Boat Boat no Mi and become`s the strawhat new boat!!! (i know it's dumb and it won't happen, but the idea of a talking boat with franky hair as sails made me giggle)
-

Erm, wouldn´t he actually drown the minute he gets into water? Would be a wasted DF power IMO.
-
Erm, wouldn´t he actually drown the minute he gets into water? Would be a wasted DF power IMO.
Yeps, he wouldn't float for a single minute +P
I'm betting that the CP9 will be using the DF… I can't really picture any of the Strawhats (excluding Luffy, Robin and Chopper) to be getting any of them. -
ah thats right jabura would get alot stronger with his zoan then i might have been right when i said that jabura was no.2
thought i still was wrong since i also thought he was the equal to Luchi but he isnt by a long shot…..other than that if usopp eats a DF i will become a very very sad panda:bawling:
oh and i wonder if spandam knows what powers the DF contains ?
or if hes just trying his luck:laugh: -
You wouldn´t be the only sad panda in here if Usopp would eat a DF. And seriously I doubt that it will happen. Oda is to good with making characters grew through characterization instead of resorting to make them grow with using DF powers.
But for villains that works perfect. Aren´t villains actually the kind of guys who seek ultimate power? And Spandam already had his "BUWAHAHAHA it´s all mine" moment in chapter 365. Eating a DF would so much fit his character.
And as far as knowing what fruits they are is concerned. I dont think that he knows. So far it hasn´t been established that there is a thing in the OP world that can tell the power of a DF before somebody has eaten it. And until we don´t get that far I think that Spandam doesn´t know.
-
Twelve pages already?!
An alright chapter but I don't know whether power level concept is all that alright. I hope Oda will bury it soon. Still, for all we know, Spandam could be an awesome fencer. I hope Straw Hats won't eat a fruit, it would alter their character too much. It would be cool if Zambai would eat one though but CP9s will probably have the honor. Luffy scenes were great, he has come a long way since Morgan and the marines. I did thought that we would see some gate cutting this week but no, guess the next week then. Oh, the judge, yet another guy has appeared to get his ass kicked. Could be interesting.
-
Luffy gets winded and a three headed man appears…..great. Sorry to keep bitching, but well, I don't think I can stop. Ban me or something.
-
@Steel:
He could be a Wolf, if that fruit hasnt been taken.
Wasn't Chaka a wolf Zoan DF user? A jackal if I'm not mistaken.
As for the chapter… Awesome! The colorspread, the three-headed judge, CP9 rivalry, Spandam's sexual harassment…totally sweet. And with the power rank list Oda is finally giving us some insight into who'll fight who (Zoro vs Kaku, damn, can't wait ). And what's the matter with you people? What makes you think that Jyabura, as a DF user is stronger than Kaku? I think the list is made with their DF powers considered. -
no its not thats without the DF and with the DF i think jabura can overcome the 20 points difference betwenn him and Kaku.
so i still stand with my guess of Jabura vs Zoro.
-
Chaka was a Inu Inu Model Jackal right? i suck at biology
Ivotas, i know it would sink… but think of a talking boat with Franky personality -_-
also, one of the DF`s looked liked bananas... maybe we're getting the Ape Ape no Mialso the list is not consistent with DF powers. it uses only the rokushiki abilitiesand even Jabura said it didn't count his Zoan transformation
-
An alright chapter but I don't know whether power level concept is all that alright. I hope Oda will bury it soon.
I don´t think we should expect to much of the power level thing. It is just a method to determine the strenght levels for us fans so that "But blah blah blah was stronger then blah blah blah" discussions after the arc.
Back in BW arc we had the ranking with their titles which here doesn´t work since none of them has a numeric code name. So here it has to work different. And I think this method is good if you consider Jabura´s ego and his relation to the other guys.I think this is just a one time thing and an homage to DragonBall since Oda admires Toriyama´s work. If you put it into consideration that many people consider Jabura as a Tao Pai Pai like character it might truly be the case that this is a DragonBall homage. I´m sure we won´t see it after this arc again.
@Green:
Wasn't Chaka a wolf Zoan DF user? A jackal if I'm not mistaken.
As d3adpool already said it, Chaka was a Inu Inu no Mi (Dog) user: model Jackal. Lasso was also a Inu Inu no Mi user, model Dachshund.
I still think and hope that it will be a coyote instead of a wolf. A wolf is the strongest wilddog and it would somehow not match Lucci´s leopard since a tiger is the strongest wildcat.
Plus the term stray dog fits better with a coyote instead of a wolf. -
Oda dissapointed me with those power levels -_- Other than that, this chapter was friggin awesome.
Edit: Okay…seems it's measuring someone's speed, not strength... Not as bad but still a bit annoying.
-
> Only ONE person may gain the power of a given Devil Fruit. Once an individual takes even a single bite, the fruit turns into a normal awful-tasting fruit.
First of all, those are my words. I know I'm not exactly the sharpest tack but I'm not about to forget my own words.
Now, I ask that you please read that first sentence again. It does not indicate anything about getting one or more powers as a person. It was in response to a question which basically asked, what if people passed around a DF and each took a bite. It says nothing about gaining only one power per person. It is directly indicating the status of the fruit. I hope this clears things up. I mentioned this in that actual thread as well but it kind of went ignored. As this is a rather important fact to get straight I considered making a thread but I think enough people read this.
-
is it measuring speed ?
i thought it was strenght or like fighting ability,
just goes to show how much attention im paying:laugh: -
If Spandam eats one of the fruits, maybe it will be the Glass Glass fruit . "I'm gonna get you Franky !" then makes a fist and little finger breaks off. Spandam looks at his hand, then looks at Franky who has an evil grin . Next panel, Franky jumps at Spandam with his mouth wide open like Jaws . Spandam spills his hot coffee on him which will cause part of him to shatter . The whole time the Funk rubs him, we heard "squeek. squeek" .
-
Well I think that Ussop at least could beat someone with a higher rating. Do not understimate the power of his senses destroying stars like Tabasco and Rotten egg.
-
so does Zyabura have a DF ability? because if he does I could see him eating one of those DFs as he's pissed off he isn't strongest, plus it'll give us the chance to see what happens when people eat two DFs
-
The speculation is, Jabura's eaten a zoan type fruit, model dog of some sort. So yeh, he's probably not going to be eating another fruit soon.
-
@Battle:

cool, well i think he might eat another DF because he feels angry at not being strongest and so will get really angry and eat one of those DFs
-
Quick thoughts.
I'm kinda with Buc. It was an ok chapter. We didn't really need to see Power Levels though. We kinda knew Lucci and Kaku were the strongest since they've been given the most "screen time" in this arc out of the CP9. And we kinda knew that Fat Zipper Guy and Kabuki-Kiri Guy were weaker. And with this revelation of Jyabura being a DF user with a Lucci rivalry, we would know that he was one of the strongest too.
So really, this whole Power Level thing was not needed and just causes more debating amongst fans in an already heavily debated arc. "But if Lucci was in DF Form and Cyborg Franky ate a DF, would his Douriki Level be 5X the strength of 10 Luffy divided by Pi? Would this change if it was Paulie's ropes instead that ate the DF? Would the ropes then join the crew??" Honestly, who cares. We know who's strong and who's not based on character prominence.
The one good thing about this Chapter is that it adds more dimension to CP9. We knew a Chapter that would have the CP9 all interacting together was bound to happen, and we got some good info about each of their relationships and abilities. So in that sense, it was ok. We now know our enemies. We know that there are two new DF's that will be incorporated into the arc's climax in some way. Plus, we got to see Franky bite Spandam (good stuff). So all in all, it was ok. Hopefully we'll get to the main fights real soon.
Also, interesting to note that while Franky was in a Color Spread, he was not listed with the crew in the latest Color Spread. So he's not official just yet.
-
Blueno, because of the reasons that Spandam is too ego to not take one for himself and Blueno just can´t stand that far behind Lucci, Kaku and Jabura.
It would be interesting to see someone get a second power, but I think it's too early for that.
-
Oda dissapointed me with those power levels -_- Other than that, this chapter was friggin awesome.

DON'T DOUBT ODA !!! =)

Concerning the the Devil fruits. Here's a theory. If you recall back in the Alabasta arc, Mr. 4 had made mention of how the government had developed devil fruits that can be used on inanimate objects when explaining how his inu inu fruit powered gun came into being. So we know, devil fruits (or at the least the ones that have been devloped/modified by the government) can be used by pretty much anything.
With that said, what if the Strawhats used one of the devil fruits not on one of their animate crew members but on one of their inanimate crew members the Going Merry? This way they'd be able to resurrect Going Merry in some form, resolving one of this arc's plot complications. This new plot development definitely lends credence to that rumor a while back (from someone whose "rumors" usually end up becoming true) that the new crew member would be neither Franky nor Paulie, but the ship itself, Going Merry, or rather the Klabutermann.

but what good is that? the going merry wouldn't be able to float

Well seeing how the douriki only measures certain fighting aspects, I wouldn't put it past Spandam to be a little stronger than he may appear here. I mean in that flashback we saw the man take all sorts of abuse and survive. Usopp's douriki probably isn't too different from Spandam's, but we know what a beating Usopp can take so I wouldn't rule out Spandam's power just yet. In fact, I could see him recieving a major ass kicking several different times during this arc; he could just run off and bide his time for the next battle until he finally eats one of those Devil's Fruits and actually becomes a worthy opponent.
I also like the idea of Usopp using one of the Devil's Fruits on one of his tools/weapons. He and Chopper were in fact the only Strawhats who witnessed the insanity that was Lasso. Maybe Usopp has been waiting for such a chance.
-
Not so sure about that, Zeefer. The storyline is getting darker. Going Merry is too "cute". They're going to get a new ship. Oda's been banging us with this over the head for over a year now. And they'll definitely get a new crew member in addition to the ship. Oda's built up that fact too much.
-
whoa… such an interesting chapter!! thankyou
so.. the power of each CP9 is listed. and the 2 side of CP9 seem don't get along very well.... and Franky bites!!! OMG!! XD but he got a slash from.... euh... the big hair guy :( and Robin is surprised to see that :) and at the end... another weird enemy, with 3 heads?? :S
ah, not forget to mention the beautiful colour spread ^_^
ah... can't wait to see next chapter -
this was such a filler chapter… i didn't really need to see their power levels or a three headed judge... i think oda's planning for something big on chapter 400 and filling to make it happen...
