Chapter 642: Losing Face

Ok, but i think it doesn't matter if an arc is longer than the others or not, the really important is the saga. Ok, fishman island will become a long arc, but the story is mostly concentrated there, meanwhile arcs like skypiea are the continuation of other arcs. In conclusion fishman island will be a long arc but a short saga, meanwhile skypiea is both a long arc and saga (ignoring water 7 saga and supernova saga or whatever oda called the saga from thriller barck to timeskip), so people shouldn't be panicking because of the lenght of the arc since everything is compilated in the arc itself.

Besides I see that this arc will have at least 25 more chapters until they left the island or whatever rest of it, and that without think on things like fishman karate dojo, jinbe's former crew,… because I don't know who Oda'll handle them. So the arc will have 65+ chapters more or less the same that skypiea, but having only 5 chapters of shabaody and probably 1-2 chapters, 3 at his most to reach the surface (only reach it, whatever happens there it's matter of the next saga) the fishman island saga will have 73+ chapters, meanwhile skypiea saga had 85-86 chapters. Of course the saga could lenghten in my eyes (with thing like hody flashaback, mini-jinbe brook's style fhlasback, and lots more of things speculated by me) but talking objectively at this point in the arc fishman island shouldn't be a long saga.
well, if it lenghtens, then I would classify it as a saga as long as skypiea saga.

Hmm, I think i've deviated in some point, so i'll rephrase my opinion in one line: Fishman island saga won't be one of the major sagas of One piece, in spite of the lenghty of fishamn island arc.

contrary, it's gonna be one of the major ones imo. Not only does it have to do with the entire political side of fishmen vs human, there will most likely be a 10th straw hat coming out of this chapter. There is gonna be a princess with the ability to control sea kings, and u just KNOW thats gonna play a huge part in a lot of things. Caribou and coribou's gonna be imporant in the next lil while, a whole lot of new stuff from post time skip that will be first introduced here, and so much more

East blue saga 101 chapters
Baroque Works saga 117 chapters
Skypiea saga 85 chapters
CP9 saga 138 chapters
Supernova saga (i think that is how oda called it during the 4 weeks break, in that countdown that we had instead of chapters) 156 chapters
Fishamn island saga so far 45 chapters, i can see the saga lasting other 40 chapters, even 50 if there is a huge twist, but it wouldn't hit the 100 chapters.

The fight between these two is part of the CP 9 saga (138 chapters) but the consequences of its outcome is what starts the whole war. Therefore chapter 442 is the first part of the Whitebeard War saga and 597's the last one (results in a total of 155 chapters).

yes, you're right, only a minor thing, if you count 442 then you have to do 597-441=156, I mean, east blue saga begins in chapter 1 and ends in 101, but i can't do 101-1=100 but 101-0=101,

Oh! Hey, guys! Just a small defense for people here who are not feeling fishman island. I think it is normal for people to think that if Oda can do an amazing job while working many weeks on end (most of One Piece) then he should be at the top of his game after a exciting arc( Whitebeard War), a time skip (everyone loves these) and a 3 week break (enough time for making great chapters and resting up).

After all these factors combined I totally agree I thought Oda would really blow everyone away.

I thought I would be dissappointed if Chopper didn't turn into a human in his heavy point by now but the way Oda portrayed it made the day for me. Self acceptance. You are what you are, nothing more nothing less and somewhere out in the world theres people that would like to be your friend as you are. An important message was deployed to us readers through those few frames. New improved Chopper is winning positions quickly in my SH ranking; in fact the three "weaker" strawhats have proved their worthiness to the crew (battle-wise that is, their proffessions are indisputable and needed for all of them to travel)

on a side note I'm wondering abour Cariboo, he's been quiet for a while now, so Maybe he went to the castle and stole some of the treasures including the one that ages people ( I think Decken mentioned it briefly) just a random guess. But seeing as he's nowhere to be seen it might as well mean that he isn't around the chaos but taking this chance to steal some items and abduct some beautiful mermaids… maybe he's still near the mermaids cove and mermaid cafe.

I can't wait to see how Hyozou makes a comeback against Zoro and the rest of the NFP for that matter. Oda didn't give them an entire chapter to flesh out their personalities just so they could be taken out a few panels. I doubt any SH will struggle but everyone who has an opponent will get a satisfying fight, no doubt about it.

yeah I know what you mean, but the fact that at the moment the enamies are so weak got me so bored about this arc..even zoro is bored.

SH crew beating the NFP handily with no threat IS satisfying. remember the 2 year time skip? sorry, that's condescending, but honestly, put it in this perspective. do you remember when they went into the time skip and we didn't have OP for 6 weeks. 6. WEEKS. this has been a long time coming.

beating up some useless fish fodder (yes, NFP are fodder as far as im concerned) will be wholly satisfying as a gauge of strength. and when we see them convincingly and overwhelmingly victorious, then we can get onto to some more challenging characters, not some washed up pill popper with daddy issues.

Yeah guys, the NFP fights are all going to be quick.

Zoro's already one-upped Hyozou as a swordsman, much to Zoro's disappointment.
Franky has obviously gotten the better of Ikaros due to the latter's fear of fire.
Really, do you see Daruma being a big challenge for Ussop?
Zeo's Chain Whips, as cool as they are, won't be any match for a skeleton.
Chopper Vs. Dosun still has more to go until I feel it'll be a worthy fight.
Possible Robin Vs. Hammond will be very quick due to his injuries.
And Hody, well, he doesn't even seem interested in battling Luffy at all.

That is why I said a satisfying fight and not challenging fight. Maybe if you read more of the posts in this thread you would have seen I am totally on your side. I brought it up because people worry that Hyozou is already down for the count. I love when the Straw Hat's overwhelm and surprise an opponent.

Still as one sided as the battles me be, some people are of the opinion that we won't get full on VS chapters like before. All i'm saying is they may go down easy but Oda didn't give them an entire chapter to flesh out their personalities just so they could be put down in a few panels.

First Aokiji, he didn't kill Luffy out of respect for defeating Crocodile... could have ended up dead right there -of course not since he is the lead character XD-

but they where defeated....

then with Moria, they had a hard time and Luffy ended up trashed, only for Kuma to appear, and they almost end up loosing Zoro,
again, they where defeated by Kuma

then in Saboady, again...
then Luffy lost his brother..

Then time Skip, OF COURSE they have to have a great come back! we have been seeing them getting defeated over and over, I for one am enjoying seeing them kicking some ass, and I trust Oda, all will be explained, and the fact that we had seen some build up and character backgrounds on the Fishman generals makes them more real as enemies, but I love that despite that, they are getting their assess kicked.

This is my first time following an arc in the manga, and its been hard for me since when I first started to watch OP a few months back I had the luck of enjoying great arcs without having to wait for the next week!

So I'm trying not get desperate and have patiente, I'll say it again, it trust Oda.

Exactly, for the past few arcs they've been cruising on luck alone, which they finally ran out of on Sabaody - after 2 years of training, they should be able to survive even the worst of odds in the New World - Luffy did say he'll never lose anyone again, and they've got to be extremely strong for that (strong enough to kick some fishman a** without difficulties ).

I'm waiting for Luffy to meet Smoker again (which I think will happen right after they resurface) and finally leave some fist marks on him …

Mostly just little mistakes around.

The bit with Hachi may have confused some readers; he means that Hody's will is unbreakable, and that Tiger feared that someone like him would come to break the peace between races.
When the Minister of the Right was talking to the bystanders, he means spectators, not "scouts"; those "little girls" should be "women and children".

The rest is manageable. Check with Aohige's trans in the spoiler thread or Cnet later if you're still unsure.

I don't think we will see a long Robin fight. Tbh, when Robin gets serious, she just destroys. She destroyed Pell, and the Skypeia general who I'm too lazy to look up but was something like Yamara, and the only delay was her not wanting to fight.

We don't have a great grasp of her power because she never gets the chance to show it, but she could be fourth in the ranking for one-on-one duels.

The name is just Yama,she only got injured because she was protecting the ruins otherwise it was flawless victory.I for one dont mind she doenst fight, i want her have smooth journey while find stuff she wants to know but i doubt that will happen(she will have fights),fight wise teh only thing i like to see is combo with luffy or giant hand flick to enemy or bunch of them.

Her DF is actually ridiculous. I'm not sure if the parameters of it have been defined outside of the manga, but its potential is extremely devastating. I would also like to see her fight more, but I think she's a hard character to write fights for because of this.
