On reflection, it's kind of particularly bad the the 3DS version is so devoid of good single player content. Like the whole point of a handheld is that you can take it with you in situations that are not fully video game convenient, like places without any kind of power or accessible wireless signal. And yet they don't have things like event matches or other kinds of specific challenges that give you a lot to do in the event of being stuck in one of the places that handhelds are supposed to distract you in?
Super Smash Bros

The worst offender when it comes to padding out the game is the fact that you can (and will) get repeat rewards. Fuck that, and the RNG.
-
It's more of a case of artificially extending the length of game.
Pretty much. And because I gave up on 100% Brawl, I know I'm gonna aim for every challenge regardless. Although having Event Matches or individualized Break the Targets would've sweeted the pot.
Ah well. Still got to beat Classic/All-Star/win Smash Run with everyone, and collect all the Custom Moves.
-
Home Run Contest was always garbage, old and new target smash are garbage, Cruel Smash has always been horrible bullshit. The minigames in Smash were never all that good to begin with.

Break the Targets and Board the Platforms were both immensely fun back in the day. Event matches were also really cool. In Brawl I enjoyed the boss rush mode too. And Home Run Contest was never the most fascinating thing ever, but as a very quick way to mess around a bit and experiment with moves I think it achieved a lot.
And that's just "minigames," not including modes like Adventure.
-
All of the minigames in Melee were awesome and I used to have some records….until people started smashing them.
-
Are you one of those people?
-
That is some insane timing/manuevering.
-
Are you one of those people?
Not on this one, I had close to the Link one (around 4.50), Ganondorf (at around 8), G&w (around 4). Amazingly….there are faster videos, this was just a compilation I found. On first version of melee I had G.Dorf at the max amount fairly quickly but I stopped doing HRC when I couldn't break the 4556 line because they only fixed that in the second version of melee which I never had.

Here's a recent record some did.

Nice. I tried HRC somewhat but I never practiced enough to actually get bat dropping at max efficiency with L-canceling. I could cancel sometimes but never developed the rhythm to keep jumping back up and catching the bat mid-air over and over. My Ganondorf record is somewhere in the 4000s… but feet, not meters.

I was pretty upset they removed batdrops in Brawl (and this game) so I never really tried much for records but the wall is stronger in this game and I have a further record with Ganondorf on 3DS than I can get on my Melee disc.

Basically I did this
-
Wow that looks pretty fun! And I just realized, with custom moves it adds a new dynamic.

This.
Especially Cruel Smash.

The real question is
Where the fuck did event matches go
-
I read, or was it heard, that the event matches will be in the Wii U edition. Too bad smash run is only for the 3ds version would have enjoy playing it on the big screen.
-
Who's up for a game, I'm pretty bad and I want to see how I stack up xD

I miss Melee's event matches. Most of them were so fun to play, like that one where you were Captain Falcon trying to outrun the cars while everything was sped up two times. I'll never get tired of watching Falcon get run over 30 times per second before instantly dying afterwards. Brawl's on the other hand… I literally cannot remember a single one because they were all so terrible, boring, and forgettable. Except for that event 51 ripoff, which was just terrible and boring.

Yeah, they were but at least they had co-op events (even though there was only 30, I believe).

Aaaw, man. I just changed all my taunts to lyrics from Heroes By David Bowie and now i can't connect to the server.
-
I now have all of Ganondorf's custom moves, which means I can check him off my list. Only most of the roster left to go!
-
Yeah, definitely not a fan of this new target smash. Angry Birds 3.0 or whatever. Would love to see a return of event matches, especially that fabulous one of a sped-up Captain Falcon racing that F-Zero track in like 7 seconds.

This is simply fantastic.

:3
-
And now I can check Ike off the list! Thanks, Target Blast.
-
Target blast is garbage and even if it's ten seconds to get a custom part maybe depending on the game, it's still harbage
-
To each their own, man…
Also, my circle pad popped off yesterday. I'll probably glue it back on soon, but not until I reinforce the bottom of it so it won't bend.
-
Harbage is right. You don't thank Target Blast for being useful, just like you don't thank every dude you meet for not murdering you. That's what it's supposed to do and instead of praising it for that, you should be chewing it out for the times it fails. Which is almost always. Which is why Purple and I are honor-bound to keep at bashing it.
-
Oh, I chew it out plenty when it fails, even though I'm aware that it was Sakurai who (probably) programmed the bullshit RNG and repeat rewards into the game.
-
Target blast exists; that in itself is a crime against humanity. To make people endure the mind crushing blandness of Target Blast is a fate crueler than death.
-
I can only hope that the single player mode is so watered down because of 3ds limitations and the wii I'd one will be better. I don't mind how classic and all-star mode work because it's more streamlined even though all-star is starting to drag a little for me but everything else is pretty naff
-
Classic is fine.
Hell, I'd even say I prefer it the way they set it up now.
But with ~50 characters, lack of a good probability of/easy way to cheese good rewards, and being just generally tedious, being all star with every character is just… too much. Hell, even 15 was asking for a lot.
-
all-star would be better if it was more random. Instead i know whats coming every time now
-
Classic done with everyone, now all-star …
I'm looking forward that 100Smash with everyone milestone @_@ -
I took a break from Target Blast to run through Smash Run with the rest of the roster. I only have Jigglypuff (who I'm working on now), Lucario, and Greninja left to go. Winning with some of these characters has been a pain, though! Damn repeat attempts…
Also, when I ran through Smash Run with Sonic earlier, the final match was the race to the finish, which I easily won. How fitting!

!
-
Holy crap, that's so cuuuute!!!
-
-
!
See this is why Koopalings being Bowser's kids are still true in the eyes of many Mario fans. Because you can get cuteless overload from stuff like this.
Also, pic of the day:
Pic of the day. Here's Bass, a trophy for the Wii U version!! When I first saw this, I was really surprised by the quality of this trophy and Treble's presence. Even though this will only appear as a trophy, this was made from the ground up. Designers really are amazing.
Zero's here too!! There are also trophies of Roll and Proto Man.
-
He's not their father, but they are his kids.

In my canon, they are Bowser's clones created with magic, and Bowser JR was the one who got most close.

In my canon, they are Bowser's clones created with magic after a jam session with Roy Orbison, Iggy Pop, Wendy O. Williams, Morton Downey, Jr., Larry Mullen, Jr., Lemmy Kilmister, and Ludwig van Beethoven as part of the supergroup "the Traveling Koopaburys", and Jr. was created as leftovers from Morton Downey, Jr. and Larry Mullen, Jr.
-
In my canon, they are the sons and daughter of his generals that possed as him in the first Super Mario Bros., their parents were brutaly murdered by Mario, and Bowser adopted them in respect of his liteunant's sacrifices.
He eventualy made love to a female koopa and got Jr.
She didn't get custody because it was a torrid one night thing, and she had to leave for her secret infiltration mission in the sarashaland nation, so the kid was going to be either a prince or the kid of a spy.
She quickly died in a cabbage-related incident.
-
In my canon, Bowser is actually the improbable child of all seven koopalings and Bowser Jr. He was formed through some bizarre, disgusting and captivating magic turtle-based reproductive process.

The fake Bowsers in the original SMB are all minor enemies from the game in a costume/transformed by magic.
So… that head canon dun work lol.

So, they were concived under the disguise, duh.
-
In my head canon Super Mario Sunshine was right and they're all Peach's illegitimate children.
Their surname is actually "Shroom", as is customary for noble-born bastards in the Mushroom Kingdom.
-
Sunshine stands out as the only main series Mario game that actually has a story. It is basically the only canon.

Hey that's not true. What about "Mario is Missing"
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Anyway great games Kubihige. Lots of lag, but you definitely won all those fair and square. Also lots of fun friendlies after!
-
@Purple:

Man, you can't lump Mario is Missing together with all the shitty Mario games.
-

If Zelda is any indication, then there will be eons of fans debating the Mario Timeline until the apocalypse.
-
So uh, is someone on so i can try my new taunts or uh…are we all like writing Koopalings Fanfiction? In my head Canon Luigi and the Koopalings had awesome adventures saving the mushroom kingdom whenever we don't see them in games b:
