I've always thought Megaman would be the most deserving third-party character, considering how huge Capcom is in the business and Megaman was a big deal in the NES days. I'd also like Ryu since he's from (I'LL SAY "ARGUABLY" JUST TO BE SAFE) the most acclaimed fighting game series, just for the novel idea of having someone from the biggest actual fighting game series in the biggest party fighting game series. Then we could have Sukapon from Nintendo's first fighting game in its newest fighting game. NOVELTY EVERYWHERE.

Except, y'know, for SSB4.

I think if Capcom got a rep, it would have to be Megaman. It just couldn't be any other. Megaman's home was the NES and SNES for a long while, and he totally deserves to be in smash. Ryu is neat, and fits the "fighting game" theme, but I'd pick Megaman over him.

While it's true Sheik wasn't in TP, there was the idea floating around that she'd be in it within Nintendo, as there was even concept art of her. In fact, that design is what they used for her in Brawl.

I had no idea it was just Sakurai cranking out the HAL characters stats all the way up to the max. I imagine this is going to be a 45 to 50 roster game and there needs to be discussions on how strong, how fast, etc each character is in relation to each other. Aside from Ridley this aspect has me most excited.

What I meant was too bad it's Sega, as in they all ready have a rep. Sakurai had guidlines posted for everyone to see regarding 3rd party characters, and only 1 representative per company.

Roy was awesome but he wasn't going to be in. They put everything from melee into brawl and worked over it. Thats why dr. mario and pichu can be found within it's programming.

It appears that the recent Iwata Asks was about smash bros. He mentions the stuff about experience and customization in more detail. It seems he understands that the two have to be enjoyable on their own but connectivity between will make extra enjoyable. He also seems to have more ideas for the 3DS version and it's generally a good interview.

I'm cool with the Idea of new features, I do especially like the 3DS customization and leveling up Idea, just as long as there is the option to not use them as well.

If you go into the Options menu of Mele or Brawl, you can customize to the point where each and every item can be turned off or on, and their drop rate altered. Give that kind of customization to the entire options menu.

Sakurai wants to keep Tripping? Add a toggle to turn it off in the options! Wana fight with your leveled up character? Make an option when you go into Vs Mode for "Custom Character Battle" and "Normal Battle" or something. etc.

That's a good third of the "new" characters, gone to old clones. I think mewtwo needs to return, but I could easily live without the others.

It's kind of tough to imagine what they'll do with Pokemon in Sm4sh. Pikachu and Jigglypuff are staying for sure. Pokemon Trainer should be coming back in one way or another. Maybe with different Pokemon this time. Which Pokemon he has would, I think, sort of dictate the other Pokemon getting in. If he has 5th gen starters, That may be all the representation gen 5 needs. If Pokemon Trainer does have 1st gen Pokemon again, then Zoroark could easily replace Lucario, as I feel Lucario was in only to represent the 4th gen, and Zoroark has just as much going for him as Lucario did back in the day (could totally change though, since this game won't be coming out for at least 3 years). If Zoroark and Lucario are out, then Mewtwo should be coming back, because why get rid of a unique moveset?

As for Roy, he probably won't be coming back. He was in Melee as an advertisement for a game that was only released in Japan, which was apparently not well received, and was also only a clone of Marth. There isn't much going for him other than people wanting him back because he was in Melee. There are other more popular Fire Emblem characters competing for a spot in the next Smash anyway.

The only way Roy would be in is if they announce a remake of FE 6 for the 3DS or something like that. Pokemon Trainer will probably keep the same pokemon, seeing as they're pretty iconic to the series. Mewtwo is more of a maybe if anything, because Gen. 1 has a lot as it is.

Fire Emblem hasn't exactly been having a good time in terms of games.

Marth is in no matter what, and I have a feeling they'll bring back Ike, but he'll be Radiant Dawn Ike (PoR Ike is better).

If we get another:
-They'll return Roy…maybe...
-The 'create your own character' lord that will be in the next DS remake. The main characters of that game is Marth and the 'create your own character'.
-Lyn
-Micaiah
-Caeda (Marth's love interest, but she rides a pegasus so.....maybe she could walk with a spear... shrug)
-Tiki
-A laguz rep. Preferably Ranulf, but I'm sure they'd pick Lethe or Reyson first.

However, I'm making a mild guess that the most likely option is either Lyn or no new rep at all.

Why the hell would you want Pichu back. Pichu was a complete waste of space that had no real purpose since it was inferior in every way to pikachu as well as damaged itself. Just because something was in Melee doesn't mean it should be brought back. And Dr. Mario should only be an alt outfit for Mario

I would like to see Roy return for the sole fact that he was in Melee and I enjoyed playing with him. Plus, unlike the other Melee clones that were removed he was entirely a character of his own.

I feel that Mewtwo should return, as well. I was really bothered by the fact that some random Pokemon that you got in a side-quest replaced the 'final boss' legendary of the first generation. Something just isn't right there. I know for the Pokemon series they go with who's being advertised the most and that's why Lucario was added but it still didn't seem right to me.

The other Melee characters that didn't make it into Brawl aren't needed. Although Dr. Mario as an alternate costume complete with the pills would be fun (if possible).

I won't be too bothered if Roy and Mewtwo don't return. That is if the roster is large enough to make up for it. If it's like a 40 character roster that has no characters I really wanted than I will be unhappy. Pretty much like how I was with Brawl.

I'll continue buying, Nintendo, just make Isaac a playable character. Maybe one character for each kind of adept, if you really want to go overboard. One from each series of the game (Dark Dawn had two sets). Isaac, Piers, Eoleo and Karis.

I think dr. mario and pichu should be alternates for mario and pikachu respectively and roy should be an assist character to replace Lyn who should be playable. Mewtwo should be playable and Meowth should be the new pokemon character because he's very important in the cartoon which is how they decide their inclusion and he was considered for the first smash but wan't put in because of time. this is the same reason why Balloon fighter should be in. He was considered for melee along with pit but ice climbers got in instead.

Has anyone here played soul calibur III. I'm wondering whether it would be a good idea to have something similar to it's soul of swords mode for the 3DS version. I really liked it in SCIII cause it was different and fun

Personally I say that there should be a compromise regarding Pokemon for the gens: if Mewtwo returns, then Pokemon Trainer gets another trio to show off other gen so we can have three for "Gen 1" (Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo) and three from another gen (heck one idea I had was maybe a 2nd, a 3rd and a 4th starter, like maybe, for example, Piplup/Bayleaf/Blaziken…or an appropriate 5th team like Tepig/Dewott/Serperior)

Even though they're arguably the worst trio so far (but that's a topic for another thread) it would represent the 5th gen, and then free up space for Mewtwo to return in place of the Pokemon trainer. And I guess Lucario hangs around in this scenario?

@Fire Emblem: When I was making my hypothetical rosters, I always left a space for "next FE lord". And since we've got 3 years before ssb4 happens, I feel like there's still time for a proper new fire emblem game, with a bran new protagonist. Ike will probably stay, though, because he has been in two recent games, and is very popular.

@3rd parties: honestly, if I had my way, I wouldn't include any 3rd party characters. Nintendo has a strong enough roster to stand on its own. But since they're here, apparently to stay, I'd like to minimize their impact, in a way. This isn't "ultimate video game crossover" this is "nintendo's all stars with a few guest characters".

While it would be a shame if we had to choose between Ammy, Wright and Megaman since I'd like all 3 in. Although on the other hand. Putting 3 Final Fantasy in, 3 MGS, 3 Sonic etc would certainly be overboard. If it was one each I could see Rayman or a Rabbid getting in.

It still annoys me how Snake got in last time. Especially considering aside from the way old Metal Gears Nintendo has yet to see any exclusive Metal Gear games. Twin Snakes was a port. Snake Eater is a 3DS port. From one of the first release interviews someone said the reason Snake was in was as a trade for getting some exclusive. :/

I think we'll certainly see a Mii in, using the Baseball, Tennis Racket, Wii-Fit board etc. Maybe add some Pilotwings stuff for them too.

As for Pokemon. I'd rather see Pokemon Trainer than Mewtwo myself. On the other hand. If we can ditch Lucario and have Mewtwo back..

Doesn't really matter if N's not a Protagonist. Neither's ganondorf or bowser but i know what your getting at. I think if he's an important character he'll get in and N is like the first really unique character in Pokemon so it could work although i don't see him using the starters.

Not sure if N would really work: his gimmick is to have Pokemon (catch them? summon them?), have them fight once and then let them go. The only way I could see that work is if he had a special ability whenever there's a Pokeball on the stage where he can do something special and have it actually fight for him for a short time; with maybe a Reisham as his Final Smash (with Pikachu around there's no real need for him to have Zekrom) Honestly, though, the best antagonistic Pokemon trainer to have would be GSC's rival…

And yeah: Mewtwo definitely has to return, even if it replaces Lucario. Personally if we only have a few Pokemon themselves, I rather it be the two standbies (Pikachu, Jigglypuff) and the "original badass" legendary...over the latest next-gen advertisement. (like Zoroark)

Not sure I'm really happy about Sakurai being behind the game again. I like him putting all the content in previous games and he sure knows how to make a good game but he can be quite biaised with some of his choices (like the Starfox fanboy additions to the roster…). Fresh blood could have been nice ... even if I'm afraid one of those Melee fans would direct the game and strip it of every "useless" non-competitive content (trophies and all).
Same stance on cross-platforming game: having a 3DS version is nice but I hope it won't limit the WiiU content.

Concerning the roster, there's still a lot of Nintendo characters who can be included without going into anecdotic secondary characters. IMO, the most likely are:

• Mii,
• Bowser Jr,
• Medusa: since it's still Sakurai and he's biaised … not against it. She looks badass and can be interesting,
• K.Rool,
• Isaac or Matthew,
• Little Mac,
• Zoroark: replacing Lucario at the "Popular pokemon of the moment" spot,
• maybe Saki or another Sin and Punishment guy
• maybe Ridley: but I feel Sakurai sees him more as a boss... I don't really disagree. I like him being a huge dragon of mass destruction. He would necessarly be dumb down like Mewtwo if playable,
• Megaman for 3rd party character.

Personally, I would also love:

• Tingle: I don't care about the haters. He's awesome and he's even the hero of three games. He also have a lot of potential moveset-wise (he can use the mercenary mechanic from Rupeeland for example),
• Dark Samus: I want another Metroid rep and I feel she's the best candidate (apart from Ridley: see my opinion above)... but she wasn't created by japanese people so... (I have the feeling Adam Malkovich would be in before her just because of that...),
• F-Zero character: Samurai Goroh or Black Shadow (or Deathborn...I don't give my hopes up), I don't care,
• Andy or a Wars CO: the series is too big to be ignored,
• Medeus: Antagonist of Marth, earth dragon with human form turned bad, badass,
• the frog vehicle from Excitebots: just to have a Excite rep and to be original (I didn't even played the game),
• the pokemon ranger with ukulele Pichu: to have a pokemon addition that is not just the popular pokemon of the year. And he can have quite an original moveset and wwould bring back an old character while
• Starfy: big series in Japan. I have yet to play his games but I know he wears big plushie costumes or use marine animals as his abilities so I'm in,
• Custom Robo guy: again, big series needing a playable character.

One of the big things I would love is special costumes to unlock and considering Wario in Brawl, it's quite likely. I think can easily think of 2 costumes for each characters (save Ice Climbers and Rob) and those who don't have can be made from scrap or taken from others games (Mach rider costume for Capt Falcon,…).

A more fleshed out adventure mode is also a must. Brawl take a good step in the fanservice way with characters intercactions but it was poorly made gameplay wise. Elements from the main game should also be implemented in it: assist trophies, final smash, special costumes (modifying stats and ability properties for example),... Locations and ennemies should also come from games and not be generic. The wolrd of Smash has a real potential for story and world building.

Other minor things:

• a new moveset for Ganondorf: he deserves one!
• barrel blasting move for DK up+B,
• Rambi crate as an item,
• Board game using trophies as pawns and playable on WiiU controller. Something similar to the FF8 card game (the only good thing in this game,...).

The only thing about Ridley being a boss again is that chances are Sakurai is going to want to do something different. Each game Ridley was some where and with each successive gave he got a bit more lime light. There is no way we'll see Ridley as a boss again, in what ever adventure mode we get new enemies are going to pop up. Just like Giga Bowser got an upgrade instead of just another boss again I think we can expect the same from Ridley. The only consistant boss we have had is the master hand, even then the crazy hand was added to mix things up.

Ridley will be playable. I know sakurai said it would have been impossible, but he also said with more time it could have happened. Looking at Charizard and Bowser along with all the flight Dedede has it could totally happen.

thats PERFECT for the pokemon trainer. Give it a male/female option. Then boom you have your five generation outfits. Each pokemon trainer is wearing different clothes in said generation. then for other characters, have their costumes as well be different variations. Like Link, his different outfits are young link, toon link, adult link, shadow link. for samus you have her different suits she has in the games. bring in the koopa juniors and have each outfit be a different one. have marios outfits be like normal, dr. mario, racoon mario, ect.

i mean you can keep a small cast of say only 24 and yet with this implemented its more like there is a couple hundred.

have small tweaks to each version too. like toon link has different weapons, dr. mario's capsules HEAL allies for small, racoon mario can float similar to like peach's umbrella, samus' has different beams in the different suits, and so on.

thats PERFECT for the pokemon trainer. Give it a male/female option. Then boom you have your five generation outfits. Each pokemon trainer is wearing different clothes in said generation. As great as it may sound, it just isn't practical. Do we really want time spent on this game to be making so many different costumes for Pokemon Trainer and their Pokemon?

There is really only one alternate costume needed, and yes, I say needed. That is Leaf. We don't need a separate female Pokemon Trainer character. "Pokemon Trainer" is already such a gender ambiguous title. It works perfectly to allow both the FR/LG male protagonist and female protagonist to be selectable under it.

That's definitely one of my most wanted improvements for this game. Leaf didn't get any credit whatsoever in HG/SS, which made me very unhappy. So I definitely want to see this, and really it is only right. The rest of the Pokemon Trainer costumes and stuff would just be unnecessary.

If Zoroark was added, it'd probably have a similar moveset to Lucario, just like Lucario did with Mewtwo.
Personally, I'd take Mewtwo over both of them, but let's face the facts here.

What would be really awesome is that if Pokemon and Pokemon trainers could have alternates. For example; we'd still have Red with Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard, and have the female version of him (Green or Blue, depending on the game version). But we could also have Lyra/Ethan as an alternate with totodile, bayleef and typhlosion and so on and so forth. The animation of the attacks and the damage would all be exactly the same, and it'd count as different costumes.

As awesome as that would be though, I think that'd be too advanced for Smash.

how would female be hard. the trainer doesn't fight, they have very minimal animations. i'm surprised it wasn't a costume chang ein melee to be female. its teh same damn trainer, just different look.

and the reaosn i said to have 5 costumes for each generation is that how can you pick what pokemon to use?

they had the first 3, strangly not all same form though. would be nice if all in same form.
but what if i am new to pokemon and don't know those guys and like the 5th gen, or my first pokemon was 4th gen. would i not rather play as blaziken or surperior instead of blastoise or charizard?

I mean if we went all insane of course have all 648 and you chose 3 or have those 15 starters and you chose 3 as well. but i think just having the 5 gen trainers and thier starters would be great for alternate costumes.

you know its like dragonball z games. you can pick what goku you want. do you want kid goku, raditz goku, namek, buu goku, dbgt goku . picking a goku that has his abilities and power that he HAD at that time in the story. same here, pick your generation trainer and he has those starting pokemon.
