so, about that interview…
"He felt that it would be wrong to make a mere extension of Super Smash Bros. Melee (GameCube) and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He did not feel that it would be right to just increase the volume, adding 50 characters or doubling the stages for instance. He also felt it would be wrong to just improve the visuals."
um... personally, an extension of Melee with 50 characters, more stages, and better graphics is exactly what I want.
also, when they talk about "there's no element of experience" I kinda face palm. When you start playing, you suck, then you learn and get better. That's actual experience, which is always better than artificially buffing your character as you progress to give you the notion of getting more skilled.
I can kinda see where Sakurai is coming from he doesn't want it to be the same old more characters and stages (as it has been for the past 3 SSB games) and he wants it to be different which I agree with to a point I think a change to some parts of the game would give an interesting twist for the game from it's usual stuff (while keeping the usual stuff in the game as well as the new stuff)
And with the second comment I do agree with you with every SSB there is a new control layout and graphics which calls for gaining skills with that new feel of fighting which will be the same for both the 3DS and Wii U SSB games which is an element of experience.
However I do believe he is referring to "experience" in a different way for example a "3D experience" (not actually that)
