Is Patty in underwater, grinning… and WITHOUT a bubble mask?
Don't we all know he is hiding a fin under his bandana thing and is actually a fishman? I mean, look at those arms… It's fishman-Popeye. :ninja:

My mind has been blown.
To an extent I can't even cry bout Otohime's death.
Off to read the chapter again…
OMG .. patty got hair!!! ____ patty~~~~!!! you look great dear!!! however … T_T where's carne?!!
but oh no ... T_T otohime ... so now the time has come .. to say goodbye ToT such an awesome character!!!
Can someone please tell me haw to get that watch?
That was sad :cwy:
I rly think its a good that the sea kings get more attention. Having now a method of using those monsters makes it for me unbelievable that the WG wasn
t so far reaching for the princess.
I guess they have so far no clue that Shirahoshi has the ability, but god damn is she mighty with that.
Good that Luffy will guide her.
Otohime is great, but somehow Oda likes to kill of mothers.
(Bellemere,Bankina,Rouge,Olivia,Luffys mum so far wasn`t even shown…)
I started off not liking this flash back. The pacing seemed off and the characters seemed a bit forced especially Otohime, i couldn't take her seriously. But now that it's over or ending i've come to respect Otohime a lot more. She just loves so much. Shame the way she died. I also like the explanation for why the princes came off so silly. Oda never disappoints.
@Don:

Hey man, you know that Dragons gotta have a flashback.
The ghost of queen Otohime for next nakama! :'(
Great chapter. When I saw the blood coming out of Otohime's chest, I was like, oh crap.
The prince's dancing was to keep Shirahoshi from crying, but she knows about her death in the current timeline.
So does that mean they told her when he grew older or what?
Patty but no Carne? He doesn't deserve his own cover, does he? I'm not sure I'd want the cover story to be quite THAT drawn out. Also, it's totally underwater. How do the people even get there?
It will be a looooong looooong coverstory….
But that Oda focuses on such minor details(like the fishman-nami drawing he reused also in this chapter) is just amazing and makes this whole OP-world so big.
How they get down there...maybe they are using a modified version of tiny fish no.1.
I have a feeling that casket will be cast aside for now and have some role to play later.
With FI Oda rly does introduce a lot of mythical stuff in his story.
He sure researched in his sparetime a lot of ocean\deep sea myths, which he now puts into one big story.
But iam with you that this casket won`t be much important right now…maybe the SH get it as a present in the end and it will be importnat later in the story..(i heard Tokoro Ataru connecting it with Bonney...i think that could be a good solution to that mystcal object)
Those same children keep getting shown, so I assume they'll have an important role to play in the present time, where they should be in that 15-20 range. Especially that one with the curly hair
Or they have the same faith as the children back in Arabasta..we can try to search the adult versions in the background.
Was it coincidence or intelligent planning that lead to the queen's assassination? I'm leaning towards the latter. The fire caused her to lose focus so that she didn't detect the danger with her mantra. If a noble sent an assassin, then such planning should be within their capability. There's still a question of how the fire started and why there was no image of a shooter in the slightest. VDD seems like a red herring at best to me. I'm sort of hoping that Dofla killed some fishmen and used their corpses as puppets. The idea of it being someone from Tiger's crew makes no sense to me. A bitter fishman like Hodi is possible, but I hope not.
VDD didnt touch before Otohime, so he shouldn
t be able to be the sniper…i think he just used that situation to his favour.
A celestrial dragon hired someone..could be possible and would give us the shadow who acts behind the scenes.
Hodi would at least make him a better villain for this arc, but somehow i doubt him being the culprit.
Seeing how much he hates her in the current storyline somehow makes it not likely that he had the pleasure to kill her.
I might be way off but i kinda have a feeling hodi and VDD made their pact to be a team around this time (besides their later team up). Seeing hodi's face and his disgust by the celestial dragon last chapter seems like the thought of saving him and the possible migration of his people to that of the human world was the last straw. Im thinking he shot otohime during the confusion so along with VDD lighting the sigs VDD could come in contact with shirahoshi. I dont know im probably giving hodi too much credit but i think his hatred of mankind has to play a bigger part in all of this than him just being angry fodder.
Oh man. That chapter….was really sad. I mean, first you have Otohime in tears of joy about the many people signing their names....then the princes promising to defend their sister, Shirahoshi....then Otohome gets shot, and everyone's crying (sad Shirahoshi always brings a frown to my face). Just....damn. But even after that, the vow stays strong.
@Mr.333:
As a side note, The "magic box" is pretty well known in Japanese Culture (called the Tamatebako) and its folklore with Urashima Taro & Princess Otohime has been featured in a lot of various Manga & Anime like Dragon Ball Z, Yu Yu Hakusho & the like.
You can read about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamatebako
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urashima_Taro#In_popular_culture
I know what the tale of Urashima Taro is about. I was just speculating.
I think you have to go to the first time VDD was introduced along with the Flying Dutchman. He said something like he wanted all the treasures on the bottom of the sea, and that he's the world's richest man. So think what would happen if he had the ability to sink all ships; all of the world sea treasures would be his.
I looked back there but I didn't find anything about Van Der Decken wanting to find treasure.
http://www.mangafox.com/manga/one_piece/v59/c613/3.html
Maybe I missed something though or it was another chapter.
Perhaps it's a bit of both and is a legendary treasure located in a seaking nest?
That's what I'm thinking and acquiring the princess's power is a means to getting rich.
So I doubt the killer's Decken and even if it was, that would be pretty dull.
And if it's Hodi, wouldn't he have been banished from Fishman Island already? Unless they never actually caught the killer. And even if they did never find out the identity of the killer, it seems like Hodi would have bragged about it already.
Must be someone we're not expecting.
Good chapter. But whats with the sea kings actually being a threat? They were always fodder for someone strong, I don't see how this sea king controlling power even compares to the military power of the marines and the yonkou crews.
did you see the size difference were talkin the biggest of the biggest sea kings san juan wolf size sea kings
I cant believe everyone is saying "Ohh, Shirahoshi is gonna be in the crew."
I know the whole prophecy thing is foreshadowing that Luffy is going to guide her, (i.e. joining his crew), but not once has Oda been THIS predictable. My bet is that yes, Luffy may destroy Fishman Island with Shirahoshi by making her panic, but the one to guide her will be someone else. Oda always has something surprising and awesome up his sleeve. The thing about foreshadowing is that a lot of authors use foreshadowing to actually throw off readers about whats going to happen. So dont act like one little panel has sealed the deal.
Plus, how would Shirahoshi being in the crew even work? She cant fight, and I can't imagine her traveling around the world in her extremely large mermaid state.

Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and, to a lesser degree, Brook and Chopper would like to disagree. The only crewmate that was a total surprise was Robin. I'm not making any predictions either way yet (I actually agree with you that it's too soon to tell), but this board seems to be too caught up in the idea that if fans can accurately predict future paths of the storyline, it's a bad thing; see the Cerberus Fruit debate for more of that sort of reasoning. Sometimes foreshadowing exists purely to foreshadow something.
actually not trying to upset Jinbe for Nakama fans the but guiding of Shirahoshi may just be why he can't join and remain with her on Fishman Island to protect and guide her.
This whole flashback made me think of how much he shares Otohime's vision
I doubt you're going to upset anyone. Most of us see it as a very likely chance now, but I don't think anyone is betting their house on it.
Sorry, I feel compelled to further explore my Aladdin conspiracy theory. Ignore me if you don't care for this, but I still think there's something more to him, and I fear it not good.
So far, just about every character introduced by name has had a literary purpose in this backstory. But what has Aladdin done, really? He was Jinbe's friend and fellow soldier and stood eye to eye with him on a number of issues, namely Arlong. He was a slave, so he was able to shed light on Koala's situation, all well and good. But is that all there is? Shouldn't someone who has so many notable traits be a bit more important in the story? Is he there just to be Jinbe's second-hand man, parroting Jinbe's ideals?
"Jinbe: However, the existence of this dangerous band of fishman pirates, who had flagrantly defied the World Government…also had the unfortunate effect of sealing the fate of Queen Otohime, and her dream of harmony between races..."
Now, what would this sentence mean if Hordy/Decken, who were not yet part of the fishman pirates, shot the queen? Or someone from the WG; if they were the cause, why not just say so and leave the pirates out, or simply say the pirates made things more difficult? Whatever the fishman pirates did before Jinbe became a Warlord didn't seem to make a difference in getting the support of the nobles, so if they were directly the cause of Otohime's downfall, wouldn't it make sense that it would be linked to her death? And the only named fishman pirates still around at the time were Jinbe himself and Aladdin. Jinbe is still relevant in this story, but Aladdin really hasn't done anything noteworthy up to now.
Furthermore, if the shooter was still on the loose, why was Shirahoshi the only one kept safe in the palace? Jinbe said to protect the whole family, so why would the brothers be allowed to go to their mother's funeral but not Shirahoshi if there was danger of any of them being sniped? Here's my shot in the dark: now that Hordy has control of the palace, he naturally has access to the dungeons that Zoro was kept in. And if the shooter was captured and not simply executed, he'd naturally be kept in those dungeons. And if, as I suspect, Aladdin was that shooter and if he was kept there, he'd be set free and Hordy would finally have a member of the crew he looked up to on his side.
guys chiil out…zeo will be joinning the crew so dont argue more for this matter ;)

Of course he will, like Hodi and all the other NFP… :ninja:
guys chiil out…zeo will be joinning the crew so dont argue more for this matter ;)
Of course, he will. He would be BFF with Sanji because they both like condoms.:ninja:
How about fukaboshi joining?
Hordy Jones is top on my list of suspects that shot Otohime. But, I'm hoping for a new character that is maybe ex-slave and/or sunny pirate.
Fukaboshi hasn't gotten any major coverage beyond minimum, his destiny is to remain along side his sister.
So, what I don't get is why people assume the idea of Luffy being he guide will have any meaning in regards to Shirahoshi joining the crew. He could just teach her what she needs to do and give her courage. Because honestly, the only fight that might make sense for her is Wolf, and any other situation would render her useless, and even for Wolf she wouldn't really be the one fighting him. Even if she was suddenly aged and could split her legs, she still has no fighting skill herself and summoning sea kings is useless on land. Her ability seems more geared towards protecting the island or her people than being a member of a pirate crew

Agreed completely. In my opinion, the "guiding" is just relevant to the current arc, and may be the explanation for Madame Shirley's prophecy of Luffy destroying the Island - through guiding Shirahoshi/Seakings. Maybe. Don't think it will mean that he actually "guides" her around the world as a travel buddy.
Damn that Aladdin theory just seems to unlikely.
I don't like the look of one of Otohime's advisors.
Look at those sneaky eyes and creepy smile.

I'd think most people would want a new crewmember that fits more in personality and a role then just someone to fill the brackets for the final Straw Hats/Blackbeard brawl.
Sad chapter it almost made me cry.
Now we know Van Der Decken's goal is to find some sort of treasure, and he didn't say it was the Ryuuguu palace treasure. That might mean Shirahoshi's powers can find that treasure some how. Van Der Decken IX… So what I was thinking is that the first Van Der Decken was around when Shirashoshi's ancestor with that ability was too, and he found out the location of the treasure but was unable to access it without that power. Based on Otohimes story "someone will appear to guide Shirahoshi and when that time comes, the world will be forever changed". I think whats running through Decken's head might be that he is the one that will guide Shirahoshi to that "treasure". The only problem is that this "treasure"(unless it’s the one piece) couldn't really change the world. That’s just my theory anyway.
I think it was Vander Decken and his crew that were responsible for the burning of the signatures and killing Otohime. All of it was just a distraction to get a chance to touch Shirahoshi.
And yeah, it looks like Luffy's the prophecised one that'll guide Shieahoshi. And Baratie gets an extention dessert ship. They're doing great business.
Not a bad Idea, But i don't think that a bunch of cowards might kill the queen.
Its either a governement/noble spy Or Hodi.. since he followed arlong's will… he wouldn't have signed that papper, and seeing people doing it made him do such a creepy thing.. was about time to leave the Ryugu Palace Army
Thanks for the chap, and WTG, once again, Oda!

Dadan's still alive.
Another great chapter. I cried alot while I was reading in some good amount of it. When the people started to sign and when the signatures started to burn I was starting to feel it and cried too, the scene where the two goofy brothers started singing and dancing while crying made me cry even more and was really touching… an incredible storytelling by Oda, like always.
The three princes have really grown on me.
Vander Decken is atleast 70% less creppier to me now and he's really dumb.
The box could have been the price that Otohime paid for the paper. The nobles wanted to live forever, Otohime had the age control fruit in that box, she made the trade, the nobles gave it to Bonney. And this is all speculation.
This indeed does makes a lot of sense though.
My guess is that, after knowing the special gift Shirahoshi has, Luffy will indeed destroy Fishman Island as it is now: on the bottom of the sea. It'll rise to the surface. This won't make the discrimination stop at all BUT Shirahoshi can protect the island against incoming threads by learning how to use her ability properly. So, this will ensure the peoples safety and it'll be a lot like Amazon Lilly in the calm belt protection-wise.
Only thing I can't really figure out is where it'll surface. Will it be in the Grand Line? Will it be in the New World, from where they probably won't be bothered by a lot of slave traders seeing Shabaody is far far away and where the straw hats are heading anyway or perhaps somehow in the calm belt, giving them even more protection. . .
I'm really curious as to how this'll play out
@ maxterdexter,
Really cool theory.
I don't get why they would give it to bonney though. I mean (if she were a slave), would you entrust a slave with that kind of responsibility? They wouldn't even be able to kill her if they gave it to a slave and to a tenryubito I guess that'd be no fun. I think they would rather entrust it to a body guard or something than a slave. Or is Bonney the rebel daughter of one of the tenryubito and that's why Akainu was worried when she got away from the WG?
(EDIT: this is kind of impossible seeing the tenryubito at Shabaody didn't even recognize her though and you would think they'd at least remember someone as important as her even though they seem to be quite dumb)
That gets me thinking about what she said after the war when Whitebeard died and she cried and said that it was all "his" fault. What the heck could that mean than and what kind of bond does she have with WB?

You are very creative.
I like your innovations, Keep it up !
Honestly at this point im just hoping fukaboshi joins. But he might go the noble way and stay to protect his sister :/ Though i do have a counter for that
Can someone explain to me how a fire broke up on the bottom of the ocean O.o ???
Can someone explain to me how a fire broke up on the bottom of the ocean O.o ???
You're kidding, right? If ever you're serious,
! because Fishman Island is inside a bubble. Boom revelation. O.o
Can someone explain to me how a fire broke up on the bottom of the ocean O.o ???
you know in the bubble its air, where its air you can burn things
Can someone explain to me how a fire broke up on the bottom of the ocean O.o ???
I always ask the same thing when watching Spongebob while babysitting. XD But I think there is an irony to it - being at the bottom of the ocean inside a bubble and being unable to stop a fire as the result of it. Just another reason why FI should head above the waves. Safer there.
if it's air then how do the fishes swim O.o, sorry I sound very stupid but I really don't get it…there isn't water in that bubble? and how do the fishes swim?
Just saw the chapter! Fantastic as always!!
RIP Otohime. ;_;
if it's air then how do the fishes swim O.o, sorry I sound very stupid but I really don't get it…there isn't water in that bubble? and how do the fishes swim?
If you look at the panels closely, you can see bubble rings around the mermen/maids that allow them to float. I don't know if Oda has really explained the physics of it, but yeah, they get around by those bubble inner-tubes.
if it's air then how do the fishes swim O.o, sorry I sound very stupid but I really don't get it…there isn't water in that bubble? and how do the fishes swim?
You're generalizing. The fire occured in the Fishman District which apparently has no water inside its bubble. The fishes you saw swimming, I assume, are those in Ryugu Palace since the Palace itself is inside a drainable bubble-aquarium.
I looked back there but I didn't find anything about Van Der Decken wanting to find treasure.
