I'm glad Gerard is alive.
Bleach Discussion 0: Hello Darkness my old friend
-
I'm glad Gerard is alive.
-
Inb4 ichigo gets killed and orihime won't stop screaming KUROSAKI KUUUUUUN!!!!
Hopefully its the other way around.
-
Having the villains refuse to give up and keep on fighting for a long time like this would be considered a great and it seems to be a bad in Bleach…..........
Gerald has over stayed!!!
-
Now theres the Bleach pacing we all know and love
Hold on Kubo, you're making the hero confronting the villain for a final showdown too exciting
-
Hmm, I'm getting a "this is it…!!!!" vibe from the last few pages, so I guess this begins the 30+ chapter stretch of trying to take down Bach? Uryu on the other hand has seen better days....how can he get out of it? Ryuken somehow showing up?
Chad and Ganju being awesome? But I have to take slight offense for the Orihime part of this chapter. I've been burned far too many times Kubo, and even here you quickly jump to "Orihime is 4 defense only" like you've done every other arc. As for Orihime herself, she's been so disconnected from the spotlight for a very long time (she and Chad have been cheerleaders while all of the plot stuff happened to Ichigo in this arc) for this declaration of "I'm finally fighting with Kurosaki-kun" to be worthwhile.
…..
......
You still can't make her use the given name, Kubo? Ffs

As much as I want this to be the final stretch, I have a hard time believing it. I was looking at another forum that mentioned this is only the start of the third day, when the whole legend talked about 7 days. If it actually goes seven whole days then this is going to be going on for a long time. Also, Kubo likes to make new characters when he has writers block, so we can't discount the fact that may happen. Until we get to a chapter title that goes past part 10, I won't believe this is the final stretch.
Agreed on the Orohime part. I want her to do something, but I don't expect it. I feel she might get fullbringered again.

Urgh, I'm getting the feeling that Kubo will squeeze in another training session somewhere.
But this reminds me….who the heck is still around to fight? Bach, Haschwald, Gerard is going to torture us and not just die already..…what other Stern Ritters are still kicking in the background?
-

If she still calls Rukia "Kuchiki-san", the chances of her calling a boy by their given name - unless they are on a romantic relationship - are pretty much non-existent. If I am not mistaken, the only characters we ever saw Orihime calling by their given name are her brother and Tatsuki.
And, yeah, I couldn't even feel slightly hyped by Kubo making it sound like she will be useful this time. Been there, done that. Too many times.

Eh good point. I just thought using "Ichigo" would at least make the scene a little more memorable and not make this declaration feel so hollow.

Well, Sniper guy is still on the ground in Soul Society. We still need Aizen to have relevance again, some of the Fullbringers haven't appeared again, and there's still a lingering feeling that the Royal Guards will still have to be fought by the protagonists for one reason or another. There's also the matter of the two feet of the Soul King not having been introduced yet.

The only other active Sternritter I can think of is Tweety Baro. He's on ground level fighting Chair-sama's pet gimp and our holey savior Kira.
-
Talking about the Chair guy, I wonder if Gerard is being made so OP to create an opportunity for him to use his Bankai.

I'm not sure how I should take that.

A "nope" kind of reaction. : P
But yeah….now I remember. Riruka and Yukio were with Ichigo and the others when they traveled gag and Ginjou/Tsukishima/Giriko were training or whatever gag. I can't imagine what on earth they'll even do this arc.
-
Hey, Tsukishima can return only if it was the way I predicted near the time I first joined. He strolls in and Juhabach welcomes him with open arms. Ichigo has an incredulous look as Bach remembers being friends with him all these years. He then tells Ichigo to apologize to him as well.

To my calling him "Tweety Baro" ever since he went bird thing or the fact he's still alive?

The fact that we might have to deal with Lille in general again. Nickname's funny!
-
I prefer Lille Barn Owl, myself.

I like Tweety Baro because it then prompts me to automatically read his dialogue in a Tweety lisp.
-
What's the over/under on how many pages it takes for Orohime to be sidelined or neutralized? My guess is five, once we actually see Bach.
-
In theory, Orihime could somehow be useful. Aizen described her powers as "violating the realm of god", so Kubo could stretch it and make her powers something that can bypass Ywhach's omniscience.
But in practice…

Didn't that get retconned? I remember something to the effect of "It was all a ruse, her powers aren't actually special and it was just an excuse to kidnap her and distract the main character" back during Aizen's "I am your father" wankery of declaring Ichigo's entire life to be a part of his plan.
-
It was retconned that he kidnapped her for her powers, but her powers being godly is still up in the air. Maybe he was lying about it too to make his interest in her sound more believable, maybe not…

Yeah, but remember when Ichigo "killed" the soul king and orihime was unable to repair him? I can't imagine her being the least bit usefull.
Also God damn it kubo. When are you going to let orihime say ichigo's first name and drop the formality? Seriously it's been how long?

Relevant answer .

-
It's useless to try to predict what Kubo will ret-con.
Is Orihime randomly Ichigo's sister and also a hallow-quincy-fullbring-shinigami?
Will her Bankai turn her into Kaguya, the final final boss?
Has Aizen been manipulating everything since the end of his arc and actually he won a long time ago?
Stay tuned.

-
5 de Mayo is coming. In two days, Chad will have it's mexican power fully charged and it's going to wreack havoc. I'm sure! If Orihime can, he also can!
-
So now Ryuken will come to finish off Gerard. I hope.

No. Her powers are very special, just the reason behind it was changed.
Her power failed to save the Soul King, prolly because she herself isn't strong enough to be able to use her ability on someone that god like….
-
Aaaaaaand the fight is back to square one. All the cool shits the good guys had thrown didn't bring them closer to figuring out Geralt's weakness. Can't they just leave him frozen in position where his ice statue won't collapse under its own weight and leave him be? It's literally big waste of time from the very start.
-
Kubo doesnt understand how to draw a good fight. We get chapters of good guys explaining their super powers and throwing them at the opponent, then it looks like the enemy is dead only then to come back and throw his/her abilities one sidedly at the hero, rince and repeat over and over again with every single fight. No dynamic back and forth whatsoever.
It is horrible storytelling.
-
So, which one of Ichigo and Bachs face-offs have you guys preferred?
The first one, where Ichigo is actually emotional? Where Bach has manipulated Ichigo, is surprised Ichigo escaped jail, and wants to destroy him, only then wants to turn him to their side? And then he teases Ichigo about his past and says "I'll get you later My son from the Darkness" as a cliffhanger?
The second one, where Ichigo is slightly emotional? Where Bach has manipulated Ichigo, and is surprised he comes after them? And then leaves with no intention of seeing him ever again?
The third one, where Ichigo is very calm about ending the world and doesn't care about his past with Bach? Where it was Bachs plan the whole time to manipulate Ichigo into killing the soul king, and had him in the palm of his hand forever? Where Bach then doesn't care much that Ichigo gets booted from the palace?
Or the fourth one, where no one is that emotional at all, where Bach appearantly was waiting for Ichigo to show up, and calls him "child of darkness" as a cliffhanger?
-
My God, let's go with the fourth one, cause emotional Ichigo is worse than non-emotional Ichigo sadly.
-
@Daz:

Oh my god, I forgot all about this.
Why, Kubo? Why must you have to have your main villains try to out-Aizen each other? Zangetsu secretly being Bach and Bach being the indirect cause of Masaki dying - overshadowing the genuine conflict Ichigo had against Grand Fisher - have already seriously soured my opinion of him* and this arc as a whole.
Some characters should not be haphazardly injected into a flashback or what have you just to make them more threatening. I feel like all of the early emotional moments that really captivated me just feel so damn hollow now (no pun intended).
-

In the battle between Freaky-Eyed Psycho Ichigo and Charmless Apathetic Ichigo we all lose

Well let's assume that nanao's god-slaying sword had a part in the soul king's current situation. That would mean there are 8 parts total to account for. 1) the soul king's body. 2) Bach, presumably the spirit. 3) Mimihagi the right hand. 4) Pernida the left hand. 5 and 6) both legs, location unknown. 7) the heart, possibly Quincy Thor. 8) unknown.
So that just leaves us with a mysterious eighth piece.

I'll go with the 4th one, too. Just because it means we're that much closer to this thing actually ending.
-
Question for Discussion: Does anyone here believe Ichigo has a chance at victory against Yhwach short of a Deus ex Machina?

I have another one: Does anyone think Ichigo's fight with Bach will be not shit?
-

Depends on how blatant the Deus ex Machina is. I mean, we should expect at least a little subtley out of Urahara, right?
-
The more troubling question is whether this is truly the start of the final confrontation with Bach (I like that we've collectively chosen to ignore "Ywhach") or whether something will distract Ichigo yet again
-
I liked the chapter but Gerard sure is broken. What to expect from the main boss if his underlings are like this…
Oh well, someone with the '' anti miracle'' bankai will show up next chapter and end him.
-
No way this is the start of the final fight. From his past big arcs, we can see that Kubo prefers for Ichigo's to start fighting the Big Bad for realsies only when everyone else has finished their own fights and become incapacitated. Ichigo will lose against Bach or be distracted before long.

Heyy! We've reached the 500 page mark and bleach is STILL GOING STRONG!
Trust in the Kubo, for he shall provide us with another 500 pages worth of discussion, as the neverending story continues!

Discussion seems to be a pretty positive way to look at this. From where I stand, seems more like we come in every chapter release and just take pot shots at the series, then never go beyond that. Toriko, despite how down hill it has gone, has discussions going on. Here, everyone has pretty much accepted that Bleach is just bad and can't muster up much. Even the resident people who can go into insane detail about the problems can't muster much in the way of making fun of it. Which sucks because I always looked forward to more Applied Logic articles.
Bleach, causes stains instead of removing them.

Has more than a quarter of these pages been focused on the Thousand Year Blood War?

I think around half has been about the war. There is the fact that around halfway through this thread we got Bleach and Naruto put together, then separated, put back together, then separated again. The first post was in 2011, now we are in 2016, and it got separated again around 2014 when Naruto ended. Many of the discussions would require going through the Bleach and Naruto combined threads.
