I love how close these enemies sides are to fighting each other, it makes for such great tension! I wonder how it will all play out.
Chapter 616: "Anniversary of Revenge" Discussion

The one problem I have with this story progression is that it's all too easy. The New Fishman Priates just waltzed right into the Ryuuguu Palace with no resistance. I know the palace guards were defeated but what about guards on the outside guarding the palace and where did Prince Fukaboshi go (nvm he went off to carry out Zoro's demands but I also just remembered the people on the island know the SH's took over the palace…
http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/71201261/9
So the army should already be mobilizing if the information already reached the citizens)? Neptune's "Army"? Where the hell are they? Were they all defeated by the SH's already? Lol, that would be some army.
If the army is located in different areas and are spread out they still should have converged on the "suspicious" and "dangerous" group entering the Ryuuguu Kingdom. It just looks like this place has no security whatsoever besides a lot of bubbles and some street police.
-
Its just, why add that in there if its not going to lead to some thing?
Personally, i'm 100% convinced Oda has a purpose for adding that: we just don't know what that purpose is, yet.
-
Blackbeard was able to defeat the army of Drum a long while ago. It doesn't necessarily mean the army is weak.
-
Its ridiculous how much detail Oda puts into each chapter.
I'm not complaining though.
-
Still willing to consider this a great chapter, but I'm starting to get a little tired of the off-screen fighting. I know it's so Oda can reveal the new techniques in one-on-one fights, but we've had Usopp hinting at Black Kabuto, Zoro taking out a whole wave of pirates, Robin fighting off a group at the bus station, the gang taking over Ryuuga…most of it off-screen.
-

Actually the army of Drum IS weak. Didn't zoro take out all those soldiers on his own?
I'm seeing a pattern here….
-
Nice, Luffy got a new Bounty.
Liking how Oda is setting up this arc.
You really need to read the older chapters.
-
@Sniper:
I liked the chapter…Den was a bit suspicious to me, but...he's a fishman. Fishman are always suspicious and/or creepy to me. Franky's embarrassed Mohawk=awesome. Looks like Van Der Decken is on his way to fight...Luffy. They're gonna be fighting, and I bet Van Der Decken will take is as a fight for Shirahoshi's love--I think!
Den's a merman, not fishman.
I'm surprised that no one brought up Brook's imagination of what Shirahoshi looks like yet.
Also, since someone asked earlier… I know Chinese.
-
@HTC:

You get my point than Don't know what else it could lead to besides a fight between the two.
Ask for off screen fights, that's some thing the anime can fix I'm sure. Some times the anime does things that the manga does not.
-
Glad to finaly see Robin back… hope she finds something intersting about the void century with this new poneglif.. anyone else think that Franky should just always keep his hair out
-
Ok this might be totally off. But does anyone else think that the reason why Oda decided to have Den explain in detail about how you can have different types of fishman generation to generation is that we might have a surprise family tie with one of the fishman in this arc. I don't know, It just seems to me like a very random and specific piece of information to spend that much time on.
I think that Hodi might possibly be the son of someone very important in this arc. Dare I say it…Maybe even Jinbe? (I say that due to the fact that he does not want Luffy to fight him) And even if its not Hodi or Jinbe I am willing to bet that its still going to play some role in this arc.
Jimbe: Hodi, I am your Father!
Hodi: NoooOOOO~!!! It's not Truuuu!!
:getlost: -
Fishman Island is beginning to remind me of Alabasta. A man is trying to take over the kingdom and Luffy is with the princess. Also there's a Poneglyph.
Well, so far we know there are many kingdoms in the world of One Piece. Situations like these are bound to happen if the Strawhats always play a major role in these kingdoms' and their conflict. Personally I'd like to see the Strawhats aid a kingdom in fighting another. In exchange for something or help, whatever the reason: I'd just like to see their infamy used to inspire fear in some major faction.
-
Didn't Pappagu talk about a Karate Dojo in FI, before the time skip? Where are these karate guys now that the kingdom needs them? Or are they waiting for a Jinbe's order?
-
It was Hatchi and I myself can't wait to get there. I'm pretty sure that if we get a fishman nakama he or she will know FK.
-
Where does Arlong fit into all of this? His name was dropped a few times already in this arc…maybe im just a dreamer but i would love to see him show up in some capacity!
-
As awesome as it would be for Arlong to reappear, I don't see it happening.
-
Can't wait until Jinbe's crew arrives as the cavalry to crush the new fishmen pirates.
Fuck Arlong. Hope he stays rotting in jail or dies. Dude does need to reappear redeemed or with the same shtick.
-
Things are going too fast here that it seems like this arc could be over with less than 30 chapters! Something must be happening in the future that makes this arc more complicated! Maybe Luffy himself will take on the role of the villain and both the new fishmen pirates and Neptune's army take on Luffy…
-
Nice chapter! :)
Pity, with Van Der Deken going to Luffy's place, the most probable outcome is Decken throwing Luffy towards Hacchi with his DF without any real fighting, and thus delaying Luffy's encounter with Jimbei and setting the basis for a rescue + maany more chapters. So I would say the arc is not even propertly started yet .
Besides Luffy has to fight with Hodi without hearing Jimbei warning, if not, Oda would not have gone to the trouble of having Jimbei warn Luffi.
As for Hodi, im still waiting for the real enemy of fishman island to appear, the one providing the drugs to Hodi and manipulating everything in the shadow. I suppose when this guy appears the story will really begin.
-
maybe someone mentioned this before…
decken has 4 legs and his shoulders are looking kind of strange.
I think he could hide there two extra arms, which means two extra targets for his DF.but, maybe not...
-
Great chapter!
Good to see Franky and Robin again. I like Tom's brother, he has a cool design! And the news of the porneglyph is awesome!King Neptune and Luffy have the same wave length xD
Rika looks cute. I guess she's 12 years old now.
The pacing is really fast O__o
I hope this arc won't be over soon. -
I didn't read the whole thread, but if it has already been explained, can someone tell me how Hodi and VDD succeeded entering the palace, an/or why they couldn't do it before, and where the princes are ???
I think I missed some important information, somewhere ! -
There one thing that bother me: The Border Patrol said some dangerous individual has entered Fishman District. That couldn't be Hodi since Hodi's gang was leaving the Fishman District to go to Ryugu Palace. Also Border Patrol said they not here to shop, it could mean that they are Human since FI is a tourist island/gateway to New World, well Fishman could shop too but that could be a possibility that they are human foreshadow maybe?
Since the Poneglyph was mention and quite a few people feel that there no way Hodi, Decken can be the main villain. My thought is there gotta be a BIGGER villain has yet to show.

I am pretty sure things will get more complicated. I think it has something to do with Hodi.

It would be like Code Geass. I don't think Luffy would do it like this.
-
this arcs going crazy after every new chapter…......... deccans gonna get his ass kicked :D :D..
-
Does someone think, that the hat with the trident of Hodi, is his old Neptune army hat?
-

Yep also he got the trident from being in the army as well

i agree arlongs in jail its time everyone faced the facts. and on another not your avatar is stupid if you know anything about ecosystems
-
well the reason why we keep brininging up arlong is cause THE WHOLE SITE IS NAMED AFTER HIM.
but i can see why some people want him to stay where ever he at -

That's a very good observation. As long as it's not a mistranslation (entering = leaving), but it's weird. Not showing a shadowy figure or something like that? And during the border patrol inform, we see the NFP guys flying, and ends up with a close up of Hodi's face. . . It SHOULD be referring to them. But if the translation's right, and there're indeed dangerous looking individuals entering fishman district, that's some interesting developement that could lead to.
Also, that place that looks like a. . .an entrance? with those Parthenon looking buildings around it? I want some developements going on in there. A visit, a fight, some conflict. . .but that place is way too gorgeous not to appear more in the story.
-
I really like to know what happened to the princes and who opened the door
-
I really like to know what happened to the princes and who opened the door
As to the Princes, they're probably off trying to track down the remainder of the Strawhat crew and the Sunny, as per Zoro's request/demand.
As to the door, at the bottom of page nine, one of Hodi's human "allies" is shown unconscious with one arm draped over three levers, holding them at the "open" position.
-
I really like to know what happened to the princes and who opened the door
this is when the door was opened
http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/73903164/9
and the princes go to fiind the rest of strawhats -
Ahh thank you guys

Chopper already went to the dojo's and took their sign, lol

Dinty brought up an interesting point that I don't think any one even acknowledged. What if pieces of Merry are in this ship graveyard? It's been 2 years and Water 7 is technically the last stop before Fishman Island. I wouldn't be surprised if the natural current has carried at least half of Merry over to the Sea Forest.
I don't know how that would affect the story at all, but it sure would be a surprise.

Hodi's Fishman District would make more sense.

that would actually be an amazing part of the story. nj dinty or whoever it was that thought of it :D

I'm getting pretty bothered by the lack of a map of this island. Oda's usually better about this sort of thing, I need a visual of where everything is related to eachother.

THIS. Is that cannon looking thing the entrance? Where are the different districts? How you go to Fishman District?
I hope he sheds some light into it.
-
Probably during the fights and the "strategy" chapters…
-
We knew the Exact layout of: Skypea, Jaja, Shabody, Marineford, Impel Down, Usopp's island, Nami's island, Arabasta, Thriller Bark
And we got good enough generalizations of: Drum, Water 7, Long Ring Island, Amazon Lilly
We were in the dark with: Louge Town, Wiskey Peak and all timeskip islands
It's due time to get the map, maybe it's a little confuse for the need to convey 3 dimensions.

That's one of the things Oda could surprise us with. Very good idea.

I agree, but the way I have it pictured right now is that it's four tiers in a dome-shaped area, with the lowest tier being split into three sections: The closest district to the entrance being where people like Caimie live, the next district in being Noah, and the far back district being the forest. Above that tier is the richer district where they have the shops like Shirley's shop, and above that is the rich people's district where they have people like Papugg living. Far above that is the palace.
We do need a diagram of it. Would definitely help.
-
Hodi is Arlong's son, calling it now. Makes sense because why else would Oda go out of his way for an elaborate (albeit interesting) discussion on the lineage of fishmen? At first I thought Hodi was going to be an Arlong clone but the more I thought about it the more I started to realize that maybe the reason Hodi is so much like Arlong is because they're Father and Son.
-
Hodi said that they wanted to go be pirates like Arlong and Hachi.
They were to young but Arlong and Hachi were probably only 14-15 at that time. So say Hodi was 6 when he wanted to leave with them, look at the age Arlong would have had a child. -

They were to young but Arlong and Hachi were probably only 14-15 at that time. So say Hodi was 6 when he wanted to leave with them, look at the age Arlong would have had a child.Just because Hodi said he wanted to be like Arlong doesn't mean he can't be his son. If he is his son, he obviously shares the same beliefs towards humans as his father did, so saying he wanted to be like him actually makes sense, he looks up to his father. Hodi is probably early 20's, let's say 22 and Arlong is probably late 30's/early 40's. The ages match up if Arlong had Hodi when he was still somewhat young, like 17/18ish.
Maybe Arlong and whoever had Hodi and Arlong just left with the Sunny Pirates before Hodi ever got to know him. Normally that'd probably make most people spiteful towards their fathers but maybe Hodi isn't as mad as he is proud of what his father did. Perhaps Hodi has an ulterior motive when it comes to the SH's? If anything it would clarify his apparent redemption "Don't be like your father blah blah blah".
