Thailand's apparently bracing itself.
9.0 earthquake hits Japan
-
-
Shut up, Kabi. Just leave this thread. We've had these discussion over and over again and it will lead to nothing other than you looking like a gigantic tool.
Anyway, Hawaii is expected to be hit by a tsunami in the next 30 minutes. Meanwhile, the worst is supposed to be over in Japan (by "the worst" I mean considering more/stronger earthquakes and tsunamis). Of course, the number of casualties and the damage will rise. I heard of 60 confirmed deaths, already.
-
A ship carrying 100 people has been swept away by the tsunami off Japan's coast, its whereabouts are still unknown.
authorities have told residents living near the Fukushima nuclear plant, hit by a fire earlier, to evacuate the area.
-
Sheeyit…
Even my friends in Tokyo are reporting in fb statuses that everything inside their houses is falling over, normal internet is out, etc. (which is not to trivialize the "real damage" that's going on, but just to show that they're feeling it even 200 miles away from the epicenter)
I should probably get to calling them right about now...Let's hope that the death toll stays low, longshot as it is...
-
@NHK:
Shinkansen bullet train operations have been called off for the day in central and northeastern Japan, and all train services have been suspended in the Tokyo Metropolitan area. Expressways are closed to traffic in northeastern Japan and in central Tokyo.
According to electric power companies, 4.4 million households in northeastern Japan are without power. Nearly 4-million more households are also under a blackout in the Tokyo Metropolitan area.
Nothing new on Hawaii's situation yet. Still waiting.
-
Hope you people are alright. And wherever the earthquake or tsunami hit. Wish you the best, guys.
When I heard the news I shitted bricks, because I worried about my friend in Japan. But it seems alright and I hope it will stay that way.
-
Thailand?? Why??

Some Twitter news:
Convenience stores around Harajuku are cleaned out tonight - shelves mostly empty of food items! http://yfrog.com/h79reqvj
Meiji Dori is still packed w/ people walking between Shinjuku-Harajuku-Shinjuku at 10pm!
No need to loot. The restaurants & stores are handing out food. This is Japan.
^ So true the third one.

On the other hand, maybe a bit off topic but I'm once again amazed at how Japan handles this crisis because as news are reporting, companies are actually announcing their people to stay inside and close to the desks (for shelter) and the elevators are not working. That's common sense for earthquakes. The sad thing is even when we get earthquakes half as this one, people panic enough to jump off from balconies or sleep outside for days but that's mostly because our buildings are like a joke compared to Japan… Honestly, I'm amazed at their awareness.
Heard some trains started working, but I hope people who has to walk home at this time of night (in Japan) can get there safely.

A few reports coming in from the northern city of Sendai saying that police have discovered "hundreds" of bodies along the coast.
-
8.9 that is a huge earthquake. My brother is in Hawaii and I am texting him right now. It's 4 in the morning here and I am definitely not getting any more sleep.

You may want to call and warn him just in case he's away from the news, I really hope he is safe.
-
Glad that, so far, the causality count isn't too bad. This is a horrible situation for Japan, but I think people will recover eventually.
Also, very good to hear that people of Hawaii were prepared for this. Glad that people were smart enough to take action after hearing about Japan.

JUST NOW READ THIS POST!
Oh my god.
-
Here in Canada they are saying that 200-300 bodies have been washed up due the the tsunami
-
-
I hope everyone and Oda are doing alright.
I tell ya, if he was planning some tidal wave event in fishman island, it's not happening now.
-
Gah… horrible news. My blood ran cold when I heard the extra newscast from the radio.
Fuck.
-
My host family father emailed me a few hours ago. They're in Tokyo, but brother and his wife can't get home, and sister and her baby were in a car accident. Father was running out to help them at the time. Fuck.

Unfortunately it has been reported by multiple sources and seems to be true… it's horrible.
I've also come across some reports about California evacuations are 'very possible'.

I'm so sorry to hear that! I hope sister and her baby are safe!
-
People Oda is fine.
Surprisingly, THE 200-300 BODIES WASHING ONTO SHORE AREN'T!
Forgive my ignorance, but how could fires survive in water? Unless there is oil.
EDIT: I was in L.A. yesterday. Granted, California may not be struck that badly, but I'm glad I got out of there pretty early.
-
Hooolllyy shit. That footage Greg posted is crazy as hell.
I'm glad some forum goers have already checked in. I hope everyone is safe. That goes for CCC's host family as well. Fill us in if you can later, man.

That is just horrible. I really hope they turn out to be well, things are just getting crazy.

Seems like Biccamera are giving out free batteries for mobile phones right now (via)
-
Terrible news, All the Pacific will be affected, including Mexico and Chile.
-
Oh man, NOT OK. Asia is totally crazy dangerous! My deepest thoughts for every man and woman on the planet.
(I hope Japan will learn now not to fuck with the ocean sea creatures)

I'm usually pretty confident in my Japanese, but I feel like this is important enough that I should check with someone more adept:
茜はまだ救出できてません 無事は確認できてます
Akane couldn't yet be rescued, but we've confirmed that she's safe? That's what it says, right?
-
If anybody around has a friend/relative around there, you might want to let them know.

Yes, that should be correct if I'm not wrong also.
I hope they can be rescued soon and be fine. -
I do hope everyone who is in danger can get to safety quickly. For our members here that are going through this, you have all of our support here. Please be careful.
That's such an enormous earthquake.

(I hope Japan will learn now not to fuck with the ocean sea creatures)
Care to explain that one?
-
Care to explain that one?
Just watch The Cove, that's all I have to say…
But that aside, this is pretty much a terrible tragedy.
-
Not sure if this has been posted yet:
Tsunami warning now in effect for Hawaii, California, Oregon and Alaska.
link -
^^
That's hardly evidence to condemn an entire nation when they are facing such a monstrous disaster…...that's out of line and pretty cold hearted. -
@Sonic:

There is truly something wrong with you.

Already answered, but yes, not so sure about the situation but that's the meaning. Hopefully she is in a safe spot.
Aftershocks like crazy over here. Obviously nothing serious compared to what's happened, but every time one happens I can't help but imagine what went on before i.
-
@Sonic:
Just watch The Cove, that's all I have to say…
There's a time and a place, and this sure as hell isn't it.
-
Oh my :/
This really is just terrible, no words can express, how sorry I am.
I really hope and wish all the best for everyone who is in danger zones. -
And now, I must go back to my Twitter timeline to explain, for 8th time, that ambiental temperature DOESN'T cause siesmic movments.
Also, tortured dolphins have nothing to do with a dissaster, or are you saying that the haitians deserved their quake for using voodo like those crazy ass "religious" guys?
Be Strong Japan, you are prepared for this kind of things.
-
I hope as many people as possible end up alright.
-
man this sucks, I'm praying for the people of japan and i hope that it doesn't go too far beyond the estimated death toll so far.
-
Large waves have hit Taiwan, Indonesia and Hawaii, but there have been no reports of damage so far.
-
Two things,
Firstly, I'm very glad that my parents came back from Hawaii a week ago.
Secondly, I more concerned about the family of the wife of one of my close friends. (I hope I worded that coherently).
But I do gotta admit…
the anime/manga fan in me did wonder what types of reprecussion this will have on our precious industry in the upcoming days.Still, I pray for all those affected by this tragedy.
O-chan
-
As a guy who watches J-League I thought about it as well.
No japanese football league this weekend is the result heh
Anyway I ll be keeping watch on this one and hope the damages and whatnot will be swiftly dealt with and fixed.
The strongest earthquake to have ever hit Japan, the 7th strongest in the history of human-kind (well since we are keeping tags on them and measure them)
And the strongest one to have hit so populated area ever. Should say a lot
-
Well, casualty count is amazingly low considering it's been reported to become one of the largest earthquake to hit populated area in history.
We're used to this shit.
If this was another part of the world, casualty count would be ten fold. -

If this was another part of the world, casualty count would be ten fold.Yeah, figured. Your building infrastructure kicks ass. Protocol and management too.
-
Kansai area is clean, much to my relief. Barring aftershocks, everyone I know is safe.
It's almost surreal when you compare it to how bad things were hit up north, though.

If this was another part of the world, casualty count would be ten fold.Yeah, that's something to be said about building codes and all that shit. Pretty much anywhere else on the planet would have gotten flattened like Haiti did last year.

Edit: hmm they made a mistake -
BreakingNews:Correction from AP: First waves from tsunami has reached U.S. mainland along Oregon coast
-
It just hit Oregon, apparently.
I didn't even know Oregon was on the coast. >_>
